Patch #19 - Tjirpy Tjirps (putting my Orthogonal Devices ER-301 to the test)

Published on Jan 10, 2019 NÄ«rusu

"I’m a lucky man getting a Orthogonal Devices ER-301 just before Christmas!
I’ve been learning the crap out of this module and my oh my is it deep!
This video is the first I thought was snazzy enough to share.
Oh and...fitted in a very tight 4ms 60hp pod! (The pico output doesn’t actually fit mind you...just a placeholder for an ALM HPO if you’re wondering)

Patch notes:
- the patch on the er301 is an fm synth from Neil Parfitt’s er301 tutorial series.
- varigate is the master clock for the o_c which is in quartremains mode taking a sequence from 2 channels from the varigate and quantizing them to set scales. Output 2 is in a different division.

Utter joy hearing this come from this small collection of modules!"

Minimal Eurorack - Finding The Beat w/ Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas

Published on Jan 10, 2019 Nostalgic Ruckus

"You don’t have to have a ton of modules to get into eurorack. I wanted to see what I could do limiting to a Moog DFAM case (60HP). I set the cameras up hoping to capture something. Here is that moment everything came together. All sounds are coming from 2 modules. The Noise Engineering Manis Iteritas and Hexinverter's Mutant Bass Drum. The Mutant Bass Drum is providing the kick. They are being sequenced by the Mutable Instruments Grids and Animodule TiKTok."

Boredbrain Transmutron Dual FX Loop Crossover Filter Pedal

Published on Jan 10, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"Boredbrain Music's Transmutron Pedal works as a filter and crossfader with two effects sends which can both be used with eurorack modules or line level effects like pedals. There are three modes on the Transmutron for different mixing types, fission mode splits the signal to two bands like a crossover filter, fusion where it works like a crossfader and fallout where there is a resonant notch filtering effect. The filters have adjustable slope with 12, 24 and 48db/octave options.

The sound source in this video is an Elektron Digitone FM synthesizer and sequencer. In the first part of the video the Transmutron is in Fission mode and the low frequencies are going to the SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver and the high frequencies to the Earthquaker Acapulco Gold V2 Distortion. In the second part of the video the Transmutron is in Fallout mode and the sound is split between the Alright Devices Chronoblob V2 delay and and T-Wrex bitcrusher and decimator."

The Seventh Wave - Sixth Electronic Music Festival comes to Birmingham 16 March 2019

WMSN promo one from Chris Wave on Vimeo.

"The Seventh Wave
Festival of Electronic Music: Number Six

Sixth Electronic Music Festival comes to Birmingham and once again it includes an all-day free electronic music event featuring talks, demonstrations, interactive sessions, synth manufacturer attendance, a room for attendees to set up and show off their synth gear and a number of free live performances!

This year sees the addition of a ‘raffle’ to the all-day free event in aid of Drake Music who are the leaders in music, disability and technology.

In March of 2019 the sixth ‘The Seventh Wave Festival of Electronic Music’ takes place across three days. For a relatively small festival The Seventh Wave continues to get some of the biggest names in electronic and progressive music.

This time around you can feast your eyes (and ears!) on Richard Barbieri (Ex-Rain Tree Crow and Porcupine Tree) who, let’s not forget, is also one of the original members of Japan and Ulrich Schnauss, who as well as being a distinguished solo performer in his own right is a ‘modern day’ member of electronic giants Tangerine Dream. To cap it all, the Festival finishes with Steve Jollife (who played in one of the earliest incarnations of Tangerine Dream) and he will be performing the Tangerine Dream album Cyclone ‘in-full’.

Tickets can be purchased for the individual paid events from Skiddle and for the free event which runs from 10.00 am until 5.00 pm people can just turn up on the day, stay for a few minutes, or get hooked and end up of staying all day!"

SYNTHESIZERS - Analog VS Digital Comparison

Published on Jan 10, 2019 Lorenzo Furlanetto

This one is via Lorenzo Furlanetto who had the following to say:

"My name's Lorenzo Furlanetto, an electronic music student in Rome and as such an enthusiast in synths and music technology like all the other readers here. I'm doing my thesis on the current state of Virtual Analog synths compared to their hardware counterparts.

Using an original Minimoog, its Arturia emulation and The Legend by Synapse audio I made 3 identical mixes, each made of sounds only from the respective synth, and published them in a comparison video on Youtube.

I also started 2 polls, a short one concerning the mixes alone and a more in-depth one comparing each single unaltered patch. [links below]

I'm trying to gather as much data and responses to get a meaningful statistical analysis, and I thought this might be a fun and interesting test for the site and the community.

Of course, this is a no-profit academic endeavour, I hope you will consider sharing this content on your site, it would be very helpful.

Timings:
0:00 - Mix 1
2:08 - Mix 2
4:15 - Mix 3

Here is the link where you can answer 2 simple questions about the study, completely free and requiring no registration: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FA...

And here is another more in-depth poll, also including a comparison between the single pathces used in the mix: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FA...

Thank you so much for partecipating in either of the surveys, it really is very helpful!"
