Introducing the Folktek "Matter" Eurorack Module

Published on Dec 11, 2015 Sir Folktek

"Matter - the first Eurorack module by Folktek. Available on folktek.com:
http://folktek.com/instruments/modula...

Here it's played as a drum synth to create little sounds and big sound.
This video is a little pointless as a visual and better treated as a sound presentation of Matter. Matter has the same synthesis as Folktek "Materia". The patch being played is simple and intended to showcase Matter...if it were a song it could certainly use a few things. I'm also just a few weeks new to modular and have no oscillators to speak of.

All sounds coming out of Matter except the reverberated and filtered wave part which is Aether (Folktek instrument) being lightly sequenced by the tiptop z8000. Matter is treated with reverb and delay in a few parts (which are self evident) but otherwise straight to the mixer. All triggers by the arturia beatstep pro, two of which are triggering 4ms peg with the adsr cv being sent to Matter - the end cycle for the adsr is being sent to intellijel adsr and triggering another Matter patch and another end cycle is being sent through Matter's vactrol modulation and jumpered. Otherwise, straight gate signals from the Arturia and direct to Matter patches.

Matter modulation is sending cv to the koma filter."

"Matter is the first of an ongoing series of modules and what will become an entire folktek system. This one starts from the dirt - the beats.

Officially up for sale now. One video is presented here and sound files to come (currently having some recording issues). The video is definitely not the greatest thing in the world. The initial price includes shipping worldwide. Each module comes with jumper cables, power connector, screws, manual and a special something.

**Note that each individual module is treated with a patina (aging) of the copper which results in the blue and green coloring. Givin that each is hand patinated, the look of each module with differ.

***There will be future add-ons available for this module which plug in to the front panel and direct the sound and function to a specific purpose. Future add-ons are discussed below.

*The first folktek module for the eurorack system will be hated for its standing at 23hp.
______________

"Matter" is drum wave synthesis. While it could simply be called a drum synthesizer, the method of play is designed equally as much to make the analog drum-based synthesis playable as waves as it is to make triggerable drum sounds. This means Matter can take a "kick" oscillator, for example, and use it to generate a bassline, a "snare" can create washes of noise with peaking resonance and so on. This allows for a very broad complexity of rhythm because triggering is not confined to a single point. That said, this module specializes in clicks and cuts style beats - little clicky sounds.

First Demo Ever Posted of the Synsonics Model 5300 Analog Drums

Published on Dec 1, 2015 Owen D RhythmDial

This one is in directly via Owen. The video description is below with some pics, but first I want to call out that I believe this is the first and only demo of the Synsonics Model 5300 not only posted here on MATRIXSYNTH, but also on YouTube. There have only been a handful of previous posts featuring images the Model 5300 from various auctions. You are likely hearing the Synsonics Model 5300 for the first time ever in this post. Huge thanks goes out to Owen for making this demo available to us! Thank you Owen!

Video description and some pics:

"Synsonics Model 5300 analog drum brain / machine / synth. Vintage electronic drum set module, made in Japan. Initial test run and everything is working well, minor static on mid-tom volume knob.

The sounds are wonderful and wide ranging. The knobs play a lot with each other as far as sound generation, so it can be complicated to recall a sound precisely if you alter more than one knob during a performance. Some weird sonic emotions out of this box, haunting bends or noise-heavy deep and long bass. Also the drums can be slow-attacking slow-rising with certain bend vs decay settings. Very deep bass drum can be solid or soft and the snare has a wonderful noise to it. For this demo I used the hi-tom as a snare and the snare as a hi-hat of sorts. The snare (hihat) did have a little trouble keeping 1/16th notes - it almost added a shuffle maybe for the voice to reach full power it needs a certain time. Overall it is definitely a beautiful analog drum box and capable of some very wide ranging sounds! I will explore the possibilities of it as a synth voice and more bleepy bloop electro synth drum hits at different tempos. The voice boards are almost identical, but there is a different resistor in one location for each voice that I could see on the underside of the board.

Triggered from DinSync DrumDokta2 eurorack modular drum machine, clocked from Korg SQ-1 step sequencer. Some effects added from Ensoniq DP/4 and I think I left the bass drum dry. ModeMachines x0x-Rack analog synth enters towards the end, receiving MIDI notes from the SQ-1."

Folktek Conduit: Touch Synthesizer, Delay & Filter

via this auction

The Conduit was on Indiegogo back in June.

"The Conduit is a symbiotic touch-based drone synthesizer based on a delay which then travels to a filter. Creating swells of oscillation that can delve into eternal noisy feedback territory as one desires. Connect to a sequencer to control the time/pitch and pull forth some powerful synthesis. The touch panel is also a cv keyboard, generating 0-5v in .5v increments.

Features:

touch pads; 8 polyphonic notes + noise + pitch: all sensitive to touch. These are synchronous with the delay, meaning delay time = oscillator pitch. All notes are tuned with one another so the pitch is a master control.
Oscillation and/or incoming audio sent through on-board filter: for further manipulation.
CV controllable: over delay time/master pitch (+0-5v).
Touch panels generate CV: signals from +0-5v in .5v increments to control your modular gear (it's a cv keyboard).
Audio input: to get your sound into some delay and filter goodness. Expect the delay to be a noisy little bastard (this is a drone synthesizer). For the cleanest effects signal possible, however, one can disconnect the touch plates and use it strictly as an effects unit for synthesizers, guitar, etc.
Delay: True vintage analog sound delay. The delay goes from extremely tight to some unspecified, very long, very noisy time. The range of the time knob has been allowed to extend to incredibly long times by allowing the degradation of quality beyond a second or so, allowing the sound to get into very lo-fi and grimy territory.
Filter: Single knob style low pass filter with fixed resonance allows for a nice, rich sweep.
Adaptable with other Folktek works: Without sending the audio output anywhere, the oscillators will travel through the players' body and into Materia, Mentalis and/or Aether to be further manipulated.
All 3.5mm jacks
High quality parts, solid construction.
Bamboo box with dark splines.
12v operation with included power supply"

Sequential Circuits Pro One

via this auction

"Here's the breakdown of the current condition:

• All knobs were replaced with brand new pots, and knobs. They are incredibly smooth, and make the synth feel probably even better than it did new. All the pots are metal shaft and very sturdy.

• Brand new custom wood sides

• J-Wire keyboard, but could use a rebushing, and calibrated (some double triggering here and there)

• Noise circuit was amplified, so much more equal with the VCOs

• The power cord could be replaced, as its slightly splitting at the synth. Works fine.

• There are 3 small holes in the panel above the keys. Not sure why, but they were there when I bought it. Purely cosmetic

• Gate LED occasionally doesn't light. Possible a cold solder joint. Haven't bothered messing with it.

• All switches, and functions work 100%"

Yamaha Reface DX + BCR2000 Demo | Midi + Sysex

"Warning, this is a very geeky demo (if it's music you are after, jump to 13:00).
It shows what can be achieved when connecting a MIDI / Sysex controller (BCR2000) to the new Yamaha Reface DX FM synthesiser. Whilst only a few controls can be accessed via midi, all of the DX controls can be accessed through sysex. This demo shows you how the Behringer BCR 2000 opens up the reface DX.
