The Krell Patch :: Five Evocations for Make Noise 0-Coast & Eventide Anthology X

Published on Oct 7, 2017 experimentalsynth

"Five short vignettes showing some of the many, many places you can go when you combine this small-but-powerful analog mono-synth from Make Noise with world-class Eventide effects processors.

The Krell Patch is an auto-generative patch that can be coaxed and goaded into a number of different timbral shapes. Combine that with other-worldly reverbs, harmonizers, rhythmic echoes, moving band-pass filters, and a lot more... and you're half way to Krell already."

"PERFECT working condition and in near perfect physical condition. There are a few scratches on the removable wood sides. This can be setup and installed on a rack mount or used as a tabletop. The bottons, lights, LED readout, silkscreen are all in perfect condition.

Jomox's first major analog real-time synthesizer. It's a true analog with 8 voices, 40 knobs, 42 buttons and 85 LED's!

The SunSyn features 2 analog oscillators (VCO's) per voice. The waveforms include sawtooth, square and pulse with pulsewidth-modulation. But in addition to these are the new Ramp Controlled Oscillators (RCO's). The RCOs follow the VCO characteristics like modulation, sync, tuning and frequency alterations. The RCO's use digital sounds which come from 4 wavesets, each with 256 waveforms each. In effect, these digital sounds get an analog treatment for nicer, warmer and fatter tones. There are 4 RCO's per voice and wavesets can be added via PCMCIA-card.

The filter section is also a true analog design but with very modern features. It is a 4-pole filter but fully configurable with independent high pass and low pass features available. Create filters that range from the sounds of a Minimoog, to the squelchy 303. Filter settings can be stored in one of two scene memories and real-time Morphing between scenes can be accomplished.

As for modulation, JoMoX has devised a clever Routing System for the SunSyn, turning it into an 8-voice modular! It is used to virtually patch between various modules or parameters. There are up to 4 Routing Elements per voice with 4,096 possible combinations per Routing Element. Modulation paths are configured using the front panel display screens. This modular approach to signal routing is a feature usually found only on the huge, expensive classic Modular synths by ARP, E-mu, Moog and Buchla. Unlike those, however, the SunSyn features complete patch memory (350 patches and 150 multi-patches) and multitimbral MIDI implementation. Most parameters can be controlled by MIDI, and controller/editor templates for most sequencers will be, or already are available. As for output, there are stereo outs, 8 freely routable individual outs and a stereo input to run external audio through the Routing system.

ROLI SEABORD BLOCK + EQUATOR

Published on Oct 7, 2017 100 Things I Do

"The Roli Seaboard Block has finally made its way into the retail stream in Australia. I have been watching this technology since The seaboard grand a few years ago but with the Seaboard block its finally within reach of most people.

Even in its more diminutive form the Seaboard requires modified playing technique. The most interesting part for me is the Equator synth engine! It combines 2xSample engines (with filters) , 4 oscillators with 49 waves, FM , 5 Envelopes , 2 LFO's , 13 filter types over 2 filters , Noise generator and integrates like a dream with the Seaboard. Did I mention it sounds pretty damn amazing also! You can use a other midi contollers with it but you will loose a lot of the expressiveness you get with the Seaboard.

I think in this combination its first contender I have seen yet to the Haken Continuum! I'll wait for the Comments telling me otherwise :D

I must apologise for the Camera being slightly out of focus. I was trying to co-ordinate a few too many things and while manually focusing on the Seaboard I did not check well enough that I had hit the focal point!"

And via baskaru.com

"The machine that refuses to age

The SYNTHI AKS is a legendary machine. Manufactured by Electronic Music Studios in 1971, this portable modular synthesizer was extremely flexible. Not a keyboard synth like what Moog was doing at the time, this was a generative music machine with a matrix patch panel. Think Max/MSP in analog terms. Except that being analog, it wasn't entirely stable and, thus, had an organic quality that is still valued today.

Music from the SYNTHI is a new endeavour for Yoshio Machida, a consistently surprising sound and visual artist who, among other feats, has released an acclaimed series of sound collage albums (Hypernatural), albums of improvisations on steelpan drums, and records with the bands miimo and Ohanami. This new solo album arrives almost four years after his previous one The Spirit of Beauty (a slow-evolving piece combining instruments, field recordings and electronics), and six years after his Baskaru debut Hypernatural #3.

Music from the SYNTHI consists in 13 pieces. Most of them are quirky and playful. "SYNTHI n° 30" has a longing quality you would never expect from a synthesizer. And all of them are 100% SYNTHI. "I simply recorded the repeating patterns and mixed 3 to 5 patterns per piece, without any editing or effects," explains Machida. I wanted to record rich obscure improvisations as performed by the SYNTHI. Every modulation, reverb, effect like delay, and glitch sound is produced inside the SYNTHI."

"This 777 was just serviced by Jered at Future Retro about 4 months ago. He tuned it up, replaced some scratchy pots, put in latest OS. He also told me that this unit is one of the more desirable units with the better overdrive/distortion circuits.
Comes with the original manual and US power supply.
The 777 is much much more than a TB-303 clone. It goes way beyond that with all the modulation options!
Simply sounds amazing and the sequencer is a breeze to use. Can also be used as a Midi to CV interface."

"Simple jam with a friend's Buchla 200 system, using only the Roland TR-606 drum machine to drive the Buchla 208r (LT trigger activates the 208r's Pulser, HT trigger "pings" the FM modulation index). Drone/bass voice from the Buchla 25S, modulated by the Buchla 281r, mixed with the 606 in the Buchla 207r. Despite all the other modules and cables pictured, no other components were used. No post-processing or mastering other than normalization to -0.3 dB."

"A slow, ambient dub techno track made using the Blofeld, MS-20, Machinedrum, Eurorack, and TB-03. The Blofeld is playing the chords, MS-20 the bassline, and the Eurorack is playing the textures. Effects are in the box, using universal audio Lexicon 224 for reverb, galaxy echo for tape echo emulation. White noise is coming from the modular as well. Mixing everything through a Soundcraft FX16ii mixer which is right below the camera.

Modules used: Noise Engineering Loquelic Iteritas, Make Noise Ripples, Dixie II, Maths for LFO, Intellijel Quadra for enveloping, Sputnik Quad VCF/VCA. Triggering the textures with pressure points gate out."
