“Overall the synth is in great condition but there is a little wiggle on the LFO control but it functions completely as intended. There is some tape reside on the back on the O of Roland and also a little bit on the back but it is strictly cosmetic and doesn't effect the performance any. It has had an upgrade added to the back it is a Midi in and Midi out port and there is also a blue port on the back (see photos). It has been tested and works as intended. See photos for minor wear to unit. There is no major damage. The bottom has some scratches but are strictly cosmetic and do not effect the performance any. There is also a few tiny scratches near the VCF label. See photos for overall condition.”

A new release from supporting member, Elinch.

"OUT NOW AS LIMITED CASSETTE OR AS A DOWNLOAD FROM SEIL RECORDS ON BANDCAMP!

https://seilrecords.bandcamp.com/albu...

'My new Album, performed on a modular synthesizer, consists of 23 individual pieces of 'in between patches'. Each of these patches can take up to two months until they are finalized. During that time, various records states to listen back, decide if something is missing, or whether a track should go in a completely different direction. These recordings often have a special spontaneous appeal, as they are not about perfection, but rather capture the temporary mood of a piece.

Making each of the album's parts a snapshot of an intimate moment - fleeting, evolving and disappearing.

Enjoy listening,

A Closer Look at the Roland System 700 from 1976!

Published on Jan 30, 2020 Alex Ball

"The Roland System 700 was a cutting edge and overly engineered masterpiece from 1976 that is both rare and curious.

As so few of these Systems were made, there's only a couple of dozen videos on YouTube showing them and several of those are just quick phone recordings.

So for posterity, I've made two videos featuring a System that I borrowed for a month in early 2020.

Here's the previous performance video [Roland System 700 | Axiom]

Here's the breakdown of this "Closer Look" video:

0:00 - Intro
0:51 - Sound 1 "Mud Flap Bass" Demonstration
1:36 - Sound 1 Explanation
3:04 - Sound 2 "Halley's Drumet" Demonstration
3:53 - Sound 2 Explanation
5:22 - Sound 3 "Rubbery Sequence" Demonstration
6:21 - Sound 3 Explanation
7:09 - Sound 4 "Threedemed" Demonstration
8:07 - Sound 4 Explanation
9:17 - Sound 5 "Womp-Womp" Demonstration
9:43 - Sound 5 Explanation
10:10 - Sound 6 "Follow My Lead" Demonstration
10:47 - Sound 6 Explanation
11:20 - Outro

All recordings are of the System 700 only and there are no external FX or tricks used at all. There's a bit of compression on the output of my DAW to level the audio for this video but it's otherwise the totally pure sound of the 700.

Huge thanks to the owner of this System and thank you for watching!"

We explore many of the various aspects of what the Buchla Music Easel has to offer. It is an endless fount of sound creation and manipulation.

Roland TR-808 Inducted Into NAMM TECnology Hall of Fame

The press release:

Legendary Drum Machine Recognized for Audio Technology Contributions

Los Angeles, CA, January 30, 2020 — Roland, a leading manufacturer of electronic musical instruments and professional video products, proudly announces that its legendary TR-808 Rhythm Composer drum machine has been inducted into the prestigious NAMM TECnology Hall of Fame, Class of 2020.

The TECnology Hall of Fame, presented by the NAMM Museum of Making Music, honors audio products and innovations that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of audio technology and production. Hosted by audio historian George Petersen, the TECnology Hall of Fame Celebration was held during The NAMM Show on Saturday, January 18, 2020.

Each year, a panel of audio experts, including authors, educators, engineers and other professionals select the inductees. This year’s panel commented, “Roland’s TR-808 programmable drum machine became part of the foundation of music movements in hip-hop, rap and electronica. And although made in 1980 — almost 40 years ago — the once $1,200 TR-808 remains a highly-prized studio tool today, with working units valued in the $4,000 range.”

Widely considered one of the most popular drum machines of all time, the Roland TR-808 has contributed to the sounds of Marvin Gaye, Phil Collins, RUN DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, and Public Enemy. Routinely celebrated by lovers of culture, music and design, the term “808” has even started appearing in song lyrics and still gets name-checked to this day, as tracks (Timbaland’s 808), albums (Kanye’s 808s & Heartbreak) and even band names (808 State) were all coined under its influence.

TR-808 enthusiasts all over the world can also experience the modern versions of this revered classic—the TR-08 Rhythm Composer and the TR-808 Software Rhythm Composer which is available as a part of Roland Cloud. Born of the most famous and influential drum machine ever made, the both the physical TR-08 hardware and the Roland Cloud software version of the TR-808 provide the most faithful reproductions of the original combined with today’s modern production techniques and professional sound design.

Korg Nu:Tekt NTS-1 Synthesizer Setup and quick jam with Volca Sample

Published on Jan 30, 2020 Expanding Sound

"Just got my Korg Nu:Tekt NTS-1 Synthesizer, a Christmas present from my brother, just delivered as it was on pre-order. I saw that it had the same effect section as the Minilogue XD and I was excited to try it with some Volcas and other synths. The XD has an awesome effects section. This is my first quick video with the new piece. I put the NTS-1 together and did a quick jam. The tiny screws and screwdriver are a little bit of a pain but it came together quick, like 20 mins or so with the tutorial. After it was together I started my noodling by checking out the NTS-1 effects on my sample. I also ran the arpeggiator on latch to create a quick melody to go with the beat.
Hope you enjoy it!"

"The AX60 is a polyphonic analogue keyboard synthesizer based on the Curtis CEM3394 and is among the last true analog polysynths of the mid-eighties. It was Akai's answer to the Roland Juno, and has a multi-mode chorus effect very similar to the Juno. It uses analogue VCOs, as opposed to The Juno's DCOs, & has a wonderfully resonant filter. Some other features the AX60 has that differ it from Juno are: Keyboard Split mode with an arp that works in split mode so you can play over an arpeggio. 5 LFO wave settings (Up, Dn, Tri, Sqr, RND). Separate rate/depth for PWM and PWM can effect any of the VCO waves (not just square). Manual is available as a free download."

E-MU Systems Model 6080 EIII Emulator SN P-0680052

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"The Emulator III was E-MU's biggest classic "Digital Sound Production System". Also called the "EIII", it was E-MU's biggest and most professional sampler-synthesizer prior to the 1990's. It was the first sampler to offer 16-bit CD-quality specs with stereo or mono sampling at 44.1kHz or 33kHz. RAM memory is 4 MB expandable to 8 MB, this one has 8mb. There are extensive and modern sample editing features (from looping to rate conversions). The on-board 16-track sequencer and arpeggiator are also superb. Equipped with MIDI, SMPTE, SCSI, built-in disk-drive and multiple outputs, the EIII is comfortable in any studio. A Macintosh can also be hooked up to the EIII for easier graphical editing.

As a sampler workstation the EIII was at one time the dominating force. Although modern machines far exceed it today, the EIII is still a quality instrument with controls and functions that would be familiar to anyone who uses samplers. A very classic machine that can still stand strong among a generation of sampler workstations many years later, the EIII is still in use and will continue to be used for many more years."

"In 1998, after several years without producing a single FM synthesizer, Yamaha released a new FM powerhouse...the FS1R. This little beast is far from your average FM synthesizer. Not only is it an eight-Operator variant, as opposed to the six- and four-Operator FM of the DX/TX lines, but it also features a new technology called Formant Shaping Synthesis. Formants are the spectral patterns making up the sounds of human speech. This allows for the creation of vocal like timbres but can also be applied in many different ways to create incredibly unique sounds that you won't find on any other synths..."
