Electric Dreams | Analog Drums and Synths

Espen Kraft

"Just a little fun with the Korg KR-55 I have at the moment. While playing with it I got the desire to make a cover of a classic 80s song I love, a fully analog cover.
As I was doing just that I felt it needed a little vocoding so I laid down a track of that as well, but that is not analog vocoding so it didn't end up a 100% fully analog cover, but the result is more important than that... ;-)"

Korg Polysix vs Roland JUNO-60

synthlegends

"Comparison and review of of the Korg Polysix and Roland JUNO-60.

Both synths are form 1982 and had been as low priced polysynths very popular (cheap Prophet 5 vs Jupiter-8). Both synths have a very similar structure and that is why a comparision is interesting.

Anyway, both synths sound very different because of its unique sound components (oscillators and filters). I would describe the Polysix as american sounding with a strong dark tone. The JUNO-60 sounds a bit more modern and feels always well in the mix. It is not so fat as the Polysix but very smooth sounding, especially with its great stereo chorus.

I recorded both synths without mastering or effects directly into my audio interface, the JUNO with a pair of stereo jacks, the Polysix with its mono jack.

I hope the video helps you to decide which synth is better for you if you can't or won't afford both. Cheers and please stay well."

"E-MU Systems Morpheus - Z-Plane filter morphing digital synthesizer with memory card & original box"

"Yes, it sounds like the video (which was recorded directly from a Morpheus) *if* you know how to program it and modulate it the way that artist does. Please be aware that the artist behind "Insanity 2" is a mega genius and also that it would take years even for a mega genius to discover how to program sounds up to that level, though the unit does indeed project that amazing quality.

You'll get:

(A) E-MU Morpheus unit shipped in the original box with foam sides, boxed again within the shipping box.
(B) 512 MB memory card, formatted loaded with presets, hyperpresets, and midimaps (pictured)
(C) power cable (D) a download link to the sysex factory bank, and a few more full sysex banks (E) bonus: two more download links to a synth/keys/orchestral .wav sample library totaling 6GB. (This sample library cannot be used with the Morpheus, but you could use it with a wide variety of samplers and with NI Kontakt.)

Condition: excellent - see pictures. The last picture shows a scratch on the top casing, the worst cosmetic issue with the whole unit."

Death By Audio Rooms, Walrus Audio Julianna, and Soma Lyra-8

Matt Lowery

"I spent some time with the Death By Audio Rooms this week. I love how it softens and expands the Lyra-8. I also love using the Julianna to add a very subtle drift on top of the reverb.

Four of Rooms' Six modes are demonstrated in this video.

Enjoy!"

"Get my Circuit pack for free/pay-what-you-want: https://gumroad.com/l/MIDqA

A few weeks ago, I released a pack for the Novation Circuit (link above). This is the first "finished" track I've made with it.

Maybe it's a drum and bass type track? I don't know, I'm not good with genres. Definitely the fastest bpm I've ever tried.

100% made on the Circuit, with some mastering in Ozone Elements. Check out my music here - https://paytoncarter.bandcamp.com/"

"The Clavia Nord Lead 2, released in 1997, is a member of the highly-regarded virtual analog synthesizer line from Clavia/Nord. This thing is loaded with features, as you’d expect. It offers not only exceptional sound, but also a superb hands-on experience for real-time sound manipulation, perfect for live performances. In addition to all the critically-acclaimed character and sounds of its predecessor, the Lead 2 features 16-voice polyphony, a ring modulator, and more LFO and arpeggiator waveforms. The Lead 2 is an extremely powerful unit made to perform at the highest professional level. Don’t miss this one!

This particular unit is in good condition, with some minor scratches, coloration, and peeling paint (please see photos). This unit has been tested by our professional technician and is working perfectly. All keys, buttons, and lights are working perfectly.

"6 Voice. Huge paint peeling bass.

MIDISoft MIDI module attached. Internally powered. Allows full control over all functions like an OB-X."

MIDISoft MIDI really opens it up. Click here and scroll down for some demos and info. I owned an OB-SX minus the MIDISoft MIDI and it definitely one beefy sounding synth. Sounded more beefy than my OB-Xa. I beleive it is closer to the OB-X in sound. That said, the interface is very limiting. Think preset synth vs full blow synth. The filter only has a cutoff knob, no resonance. The MIDISoft MIDI should open it up.

Jamuary #7 - Winds of change

TheTechnobear

"For day 7 of Jamuary I decided extend the jamming to video as well as music :)
On the music front Im simply playing the soundplane in a free improv.
On the video side, I brought out the Critter and Guitari Eyesy, and 'jammed' along with what Id played.

I really love the eyesy, for creatiing these video effects quickly, where it can react to the music, and also allow some hands on control.

details....

Music side:
Improv on the soundplane playing Madrona Lab Aalto into Vahalla Shimmer and Vahalla SuperMassove.

Video side:
Audio into Eyesy, video capture with a very cheap device off ebay. Eyesy is generating visual from audio using various 'scenes', where I use a green background, and 'green screen' video
I did a couple of runs with EYESY, then brought them into Final Cut Pro.
I added the main video with a sepia fx, to help the graphics stand out.
then overlaid eyesy video, added keyer fx (green screen) - then chopped up bits of the eyesy images I wanted.

note: no additional fx were used in FCP, except crossfade transitions.

this sounds more complicated than it really is, its actually a very quick way to add additional video fx."

Korg NTS-1 Megademo - 50 Custom Patches with Downloads

ChrisLody

"The patch sheets from this collection can be downloaded from this link in Patch Sheets/Korg NTS1: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/l6c592egul...

Well this was fun, and also took a bit longer than I thought it would which is why I've been a bit absent over Christmas. So after 13 odd years of making YouTube with you lovely people asking me for synth patch details I thought it was time I actually did something about it and start uploading patch collection videos.

Don't ask me why I started with what is probably the most difficult one to start with, the Korg NTS-1. Not only is it's architecture quite restrictive which makes it tough to make varied sounds for, it also has no memory or sensible way to share patches so I've had to develop my own method. Sure it sends midi CC's for most of the controls but there's still quite a lot that would be missing if you just relied on that, so a patch sheet was the answer. Well 2 actually, if the patch uses the Waves oscillator, custom oscillators or effects a second sheet is required. I've made blank sheets available in the downloads section so you can record your own sounds."

Patch Notes: MarcelDune

FACTmagazine

"MarcelDune’s music occupies two poles, playing off hard-hitting rhythms against abstract, woozy sound design. At the heart of her practice is a modular system, with digital effects and field recordings adding character to her sci-fi techno productions.

On this episode of Patch Notes, MarcelDune records a 12-minute live set that explores the breadth of her sound, moving between ambient textures, chaotic tones and relentless modular drums with ease.

MarcelDune’s latest EP, Preternatural, is available now on Repitch Recordings. Find the rest of her catalogue at Bandcamp.
