The 1010 Music Bluebox is a tiny mixer with 12 inputs for either 6 stereo tracks or 12 mono tracks. It can be controlled by its touch screen or with midi. You can also save mixer setups as presets and load them. There are lots of useful features like track naming and built in EQ, compression, delay and reverb.

The Bluebox can also record and playback tracks and stems for mixing later in a DAW or doing playback during a performance. It can accept eurorack level signals as well as line level instruments. The Bluebox comes in the same compact and sturdy metal enclosure that the 1010 Music Blackbox is in.

Sound Semiconductor Announces New SSI2131 VCO

New chip derived from Sound Semiconductor's previously announced SSI2130 to provide only the core VCO function for lower cost and easier use.

January 13, 2021 – Sonora, California – Sound Semiconductor today announced an addition to its family of Voltage Controlled Oscillator (“VCO”) integrated circuits.

The SSI2131 offers basic VCO functionality with buffered triangle, sawtooth, and variable-width pulse outputs. Like the previously introduced SSI2130 VCO, special care was taken to provide unprecedented levels of temperature stability, exponentiality, and waveform integrity but in this case the on-chip mixer, sine shaper, and through-zero components were omitted. The result is a modern, high-performance basic VCO that is extremely easy to use.

Offered in a 16-pin small-outline DIP package, only a handful of external components are necessary. Like the SSI2130, exponential setup is easily accomplished by use of fixed-value resistors for less demanding applications, and manual or CPU calibrated for exponential conformance to one cent over a ten-octave range. Both soft and hard sync are available. Pricing is $1.40 at 1k pieces, with samples available now to qualified OEM’s. Production stock will be available by late February; at that time hobby and DIY enthusiasts will be served through Sound Semiconductor’s growing network of authorized resellers.

"This was made back in 1930s Soviet Russia using an optical synthesizer called that variophone [Variophon] which takes a picture of a drawn waveform on replicates it. Sounds are drawn and paper and then dragged across the aperture to play a song. It amazes me that electronic music goes back this far and I think sounds so futuristic so I took the time to restore this little known piece"

Smart way to get your synth signed.

"I have owned this Synth for over 25 years a never really used it as requires midi clock to time up and I use midi modern control. It's as rare as hens now but this one has a special twist in that I managed to get it signed by the Synth master Gary Numan back in 2017 when he came to Cardiff, a managed to get to meet him before his gig a pursuaded him to sign the end cap for me, to which he laughed a said he never been asked to sign a Synth before ! So this makes this even more unique as it's probably the only one out there anywhere, and it's a classic analogue from around start of the 80s when his early tracks used this type of machine ! I really regret having to sell this Synth but unfortunately it has to go as need the cash to pay towards other projects etc a lack of space as house is small !"
