The New Utility Powerhouse - Boundary by Schlappi Engineering

video upload by

"In this video resident expert Nick Bigelow of Patchwerks shares with us the many ways you can use Boundary by making comparisons with the Make Noise Maths.

The Boundary is a multi-purpose modulation and signal control center. It consists of a cycling slew and a four quadrant multiplier (VCA).

The cycling slew (which can be used as an envelope or LFO) has individual control over rise and fall, rate and shape, as well as dedicated inputs for trigger, slew (for gates or pitch cv), full wave rectification (for envelope following), and a unique BOUND input which allows for bouncing ball effects and additional modulation of the envelope.

The four quadrant multiplier is an OTA design and is usable as a VCA or ring modulator with a soft limiter on the output to tame extreme signals or push into distortion.

New Berna3 Presentation and In-DepthTutorial

video upload by

":Berna 3 is a software simulation of an early electronic music studio with equipment inspired from those used at Milan's RAI Studio di Fonologia and Cologne's WDR.
Berna 1 was released in 2009, Berna 2 in 2013.
Try the demo and buy it at giorgiosancristoforo.net
Windows version available from Oct 11th"

via giorgiosancristoforo.net:

THE LEGACY
I remember in 2009, when I was working at the first release of Berna, that first and foremost, Berna was my love letter to the RAI Studio di Fonologia Musicale, the electronic music studios of the national radio and television of Italy, founded in 1954 by the composers Bruno Maderna and Luciano Berio.
The Studio di Fonologia has been an obsession for me for many years. It was the better equipped electronic music studios of the 50s, with a lot of devices created ad hoc by the Italian Physicist Alfredo Lietti, who literally scavenged the RAI warehouses to collect all the electronic parts from broken or unused devices. The Studio was directed by Berio and Maderna, first, then by Luigi Nono, and for me these three composers are the sacred trinity of the classic Italian avant-garde. I immensely love their work and their legacy.
But behind the buttons and the mixer console, there was always the prototype of the modern sound engineer and producer: Marino Zuccheri, the technician in white coat that assisted the composers and very often created the sounds of the masterpieces of Italian electronic music. Zuccheri has been an immense inspiration for me, as a sound technician myself, and to his legacy I, once again, dedicate this new version of Berna.

WHAT’S NEW IN BERNA 3

Berna 2 was released in 2013 and it had a substantial improvement of the user interface. Meanwhile this early electronic music studio simulation become popular among schools and institutions of electronic music, among them the TUFTS University and the Royal College of Music of Stokholm. The primary goal of Berna had always been education and always will be.
Berna 3 tries to push the early electronic music studio simulation further, with more realism and details, and a new set of devices. All in all, Berna 3 will be an useful instrument both for students as well as for composers and producers who are interested in playing test equipment and historical devices.

Pictured in this post is my copy and I can verify it sounds great. It's a super clean pressing. Apparently they are close to halfway sold out, so head over and give them a listen.

Blade Runner (1982) | Vangelis on Hydrasynth | Soundtrack | A004 Blade Titles PS Patch

video upload by Microflat

"I was 12 years old. Knew nothing about Ridley Scott, Rutger Hauer or Vangelis. But the atmospheric sound of the now legendary synthesizer Yamaha CS-80 was an instant game changer for me. What on earth was that? The Hydrasynth is a worthy replicant. All audio output effects are default ASM Hydrasynth FX."

Yamaha QY10 Sound Module Sound Demo - No Talking

video upload by Runningonair

"Yamaha QY10 Sound Module Sound Demo - No Talking

In this video I run through the Yamaha QY10 sound set. Although it is a very basic device, I found it very useful for filler sounds and drums when I was doing music in the '90s. Let me know in the comments if you would like me to do an overview of the features. With an 8 track sequencer and the tiny "VHS" format, it could do surprising amount for it's time.

Bill Mauchly & John Senior | Ensoniq meets SQ80 V

video upload by Arturia

"Ensoniq’s SQ-80 is a keyboard responsible for some of the most recognisable synth tones of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and beyond. Its combination of digital oscillators, analog filters, and a surprisingly intuitive workflow sets it apart from the crowd, both then and now.

With SQ80 V, we wanted to resurrect this hybrid icon in all its former glory and more. We had the privilege of spending a day with two of the original engineers on the project, Bill Mauchly and John Senior, exploring their inspirations, the limitations of technology, and their insight into the process of designing a classic."

Hydrasynth Deluxe 73 Key Synthesizer Sonic Lab Review

video upload by sonicstate

"We take a look at the new Ashun Sound Machines Hydrasynth Deluxe. The new model, announced just before Superbooth 21, doubles the voice count - either 16 voices in single sound mode or two complete 8 voice Hydrasynth Engines for split or layer. Each layer has a dedicated stereo audio output pair, and the Polytouch polyphonic after touch keybed gets enlarged to 73 keys.
Its a whopper.
Available priced at 1499 UK and $1799

Introducing the Emthree PFV3

video upload by Vintage Audio Institute Italia

This appears to be the first demo of one on the site. One went up for sale back in 2016.

"Amazingly rare, battery run formant filter, or rather EQ, machine produced in Italy by Emthree, formerly Meazzi, probably in the early 1980s.
It has two modes:
1. Full on engage of three filters / EQ settings / Vowels by pressing the buttons.
2. Gradual engage by using the three potentiometers.

The two modes cannot be engaged simultaneously.

Vintage Audio Institute is a gear vendor and recording studio in the hills of Florence, Italy.
Thanks for watching."

See thee EMthree label below for more of their products.

"In its day, the K5000 was Kawai’s flagship synth. 1997 saw the rack version released which features digital additive synthesis plus PCM samples, arpeggiator and onboard effects. It can be programmed much like a standard VCO subtractive synth or just use the PCM samples, however, it gets very interesting when delving in to the world of additive synthesis. Look at some of the youtube videos for examples.

Additional Features:
Memory upgraded - this doubles the preset storage available with additional banks "E" and "F". On the K5000, preset size is a movable beast; the more complex the preset, the more storage memory is required to save it. The memory upgrade allows storage of many more presets.

Latest OS 4.04 loaded."

LED Matrix sync with DIY modular Synthesizer - [YMNK's DIY synths adventures]

video upload by YMNK

"This is a really small demo about something I've been working on the past few weeks.
This is 16*64 programmable LED matrix that can be synced by CV Gate or by MIDI.

The entire display contains 2x 16*32 LED matrix from Adafruit ( https://www.adafruit.com/product/420 ), 2 Arduino Unos and some electronic to make all this mess understanding CV gate or MIDI messages.

The images/animations have been hardcoded by myself on the arduinos (the code is here : https://github.com/alexiszbik/liveled... ... but I still have to add the schematics ...) ... and it is really difficult to fit a lot of animations in such a tiny memory. But it is a nice challenge!

I use the display for my third official gig as YMNK in Roubaix, France at La Condition Publique. Everything worked perfectly so, I'm very happy about it! Still I want to make more animation now! I've some videos, I should probably upload them in the next few days!"
