That Makes Synths Presents: The Novation Ultranova

video upload by That Makes Synths

"In this episode of "That Makes Synths", Brad takes a look at Novation's Ultranova. This is a fun synth with a great vocoder and arpeggiator. In particular, Brad will show the sound sets Novation released for their 25th anniversary. Unfortunately, he did not see the sounds still on Novation's website. However, the vocoder patches are still on their website:

Star Spangled Banner on the Soma Terra Synth - Nod to Jimi Hendrix

video upload by Lawrence Pritchard

"I'm learning to play my new Soma Terra synth and thought I'd try a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. The style is inspired by the version played by Jimi Hendrix at the end of the Woodstock festival in 1969. Hendrix's iconic "Banner" was a sublime translation into music of the sense of turmoil, pain, beauty and hope that characterized the United States in the late 1960s.

It somehow feels appropriate to these days too.

The Soma Terra is an incredibly fun instrument to play. It's more of a performance synth rather than a sound design synth. The tactile immediacy of the Terra is kind of like playing an analog instrument like a guitar or violin...it responds well to subtle gestures. The Terra is just the sort of thing I need right now."

OP-XY Meets Typhon: Synthetic Bloom | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"In this synth jam, Synthetic Bloom comes to life through the Teenage Engineering OP-XY controlling the Dreadbox Typhon via MIDI, unlocking a world of connectivity and creative possibilities. The Typhon’s rich, melodic synth tones blend perfectly with the expressive control of the OP-XY, shaping an emotional and evolving electronic piece built around live improvisation.

Performed & produced by OMEGA dB."

Pocket Scion Meets OB-4: 10 minutes of ambient Drone | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"I created this 10-minute ambient drone performance using the brand new ‪@instruo‬ Pocket Scion together with the Teenage Engineering OB-4. By connecting the SCÍON’s bio-data sensor to a plant, I used its four engines to generate evolving progressions through D Dorian, E Phrygian Dominant, A Harmonic Minor, and G Mixolydian b6, blending nature and sound into shifting harmonies. The OB-4’s ambient mode transforms these signals into immersive layers and textures, while I captured the audio with a Tula Mic for a detailed, organic sound experience.

Wavy Monkey & Klevgrand Elpiano: Intimate Ambient Performance | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"Step into a calm and intimate space where minimalism meets inspiration.
In this performance, I play a solo on the Wavy Monkey Bluetooth MIDI Controller, using both its expressive keys and the integrated arpeggiator, captured from a cinematic overhead perspective, blending it with the warm tones of the Klevgrand Elpiano plugin in Ableton Live.

With soft lights, subtle textures, and a safe studio atmosphere, this video reflects how even with small and minimal gear, music can create powerful emotions. The Wavy Monkey becomes a symbol of simplicity and focus, showing that beauty often lies in less.

Korg Drumlogue: Acid Lines | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"Korg Drumlogue jam at 140 BPM. A raw techno piece built around a steady kick and evolving percussive elements, shaping a hypnotic and driving groove. This session focuses on a hands-on hardware workflow, using filter sweeps with high resonance to create that classic acid whistle in real time. Recorded as a live performance, focused on flow, texture and energy.

Performed & produced by OMEGA dB."

From Scractch on Wunderkammer WoO.1 | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"Wunderkammer sent me their WoO.1 prototype to explore, and I dove in immediately. I built a beat from scratch using only the unit’s built-in sounds, experimenting with its arpeggiator not just for melodies, but to quantize the kick and hi-hat. Since the WoO.1 is a looper and sampler without a traditional sequencer or mixer, this first contact felt raw and inspiring, and within minutes, a compelling beat emerged.

For me, the WoO.1 is like a musical notepad: sketch your ideas, save loops to its internal memory, and build your own library of creative phrases. It also has a built-in battery and can act as a speaker, making it a truly portable creative tool.

The name Wunderkammer itself means cabinet of curiosities in German, a place where marvels and rare objects were collected to inspire awe. In a way, the WoO.1 feels just like that: a little box of sonic wonders, always ready to surprise you.

The WoO.1 is already available for funding on Kickstarter 👉 https://wunderkammer.kckb.me/omegadb

OP-XY Meets Artemis: Pulse of Light | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"In this new episode of the “Meets” series, the Teenage Engineering OP-XY encounters the Dreadbox Artemis in a live ambient performance that evolves from minimal percussive patterns into a deep, melodic 4/4 groove.

Long, choral pads, delicate piano lines, and a breathing bassline shape a cinematic atmosphere that slowly transforms into a shimmering, ethereal space, where ambient textures meet the pulse of dance music.

A spontaneous dialogue between machines, rhythm, and emotion.

Performed & produced by OMEGA dB."

Korg Phase8: Metastable System | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"Live rhythmic performance on the Korg Phase8. A metastable system built through sequencing, touch and modulation.
The 8-step sequencer establishes temporary balance, while interacting directly with the resonators introduces small perturbations that shift the system over time.
Pitch modulation and gradual pressure through the Air fader increase tension, pushing the structure toward new states.

Special thanks to Korg Spain for the trust and for providing the unit.

Performed & produced by OMEGA dB."

Korg NTS-4 Synth Jam: Afterglow Pulse | OMEGA dB

video upload by OMEGA dB

"An exclusive Korg Synth Jam celebrating the official launch of the new Korg NTS-4 Mixer.

'Afterglow Pulse' is built around the idea of the energy that remains after the impact, the pulse that keeps moving even when everything else seems to fade.

Created with the Korg Drumlogue, NTS-1 mkII, Phase8 and the NTS-4, this synth performance explores rhythm, space and texture through a simple evolving composition. No talking, no review, just a musical moment.

A huge thank you to Korg Spain for sending me the NTS-4 ahead of its official launch and for trusting me once again to share it with all of you.

Performed & produced by OMEGA dB."

Sinewave Reel | Make Noise Morphagene

Sinewave Reel from Morphagene (Reels Pack)
https://akihikomatsumoto.sellfy.store...

Recomposing the Architecture of Sound
The Make Noise Morphagene functions as a system for reorganizing recorded time. Each splice and grain becomes a modular event, where sound is reshaped through control voltage, feedback, and probability.

The Morphagene Reels Sample Pack ver.2.1 extends this system by providing a collection of reel structures designed for direct use. It includes 26 sets of curated sound materials that range from TB-303 inspired acid patterns to dubstep modulations, color bass textures, rave stabs, Wave atmospheres, retro PCM timbres, breakbeats, and industrial percussive elements. Every reel is pre-labeled with accurate splice points, enabling immediate interaction within Morphagene without additional editing."

A most dramatic sounding synth

Turn any soundsource into Drums with 'Doppler' from Jasmine & Olive Trees.

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Sometimes a module comes along where you'd read the description and think, OK, why? This module turns any sound into drums so if you're not interested in drum sounds, why bother? And what do drumsounds have in common with the Doppler effect where pitch perception would change depending on an object moving towards or away from you?

BUT THEN.
You patch it up, play with a few sources and go WOW.
Check it out."

Lost Painting from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - BARx Cover

video upload by BARxMusic

"Stream/Download: https://ffm.to/lostpainting

My take on the beautifully wistful "Lost Painting" from Symphony of the Night. It's been a while since I made some straight-up Synthwave, thought this theme would be a perfect fit for that dreamy nostalgic vibe.

I used a new camera to shoot this video, really pleased with how it came out!

Hope you enjoy!

BOARDS OF CANADA - Introit (Prophet REV2 & Elektron Analog Heat+FX COVER)

video upload by nicola neeco

"My reinterpretation of “Introit” from Boards of Canada’s latest album Inferno, built entirely with hardware and analog processing.
Two Prophet Rev2 patches:
– Patch 1: the arpeggiated line, created with the synth’s internal melodic sequencer (at the start of the video I record the notes directly into the sequencer).
– Patch 2: a brass-like sound for the melody
All distortion, saturation, filtering and noise come from the Elektron Analog Heat+FX."

Roland Juno 60 Legendary PolySynth WITH Kenton Pro DCB to MIDI Converter 1982

video upload by Seventy Three Records Music Store

via this eBay listing

"Up for sale is a classic Roland Juno 60 Analog Poly Synthesizer. So many hit songs of the 80's and 90's had the Juno 60 legendary tone. Once you play one, you can recall countless sweet pads, strings, brass, basses, and leads. The 60 was simply essential in music production, and still is. There is nothing that comes close to it. Even the Juno 106 can't do exactly what a Juno 60 does. The tone is simply king.

This Juno 60 is in great working order. ALL sliders, buttons, knobs, jacks and keys work as they should. It was fully gone through by my analog synth tech. I also had him install a new battery as well as an easy battery replacement holder.. no more solder batteries : ) He also loaded some wicked cool custom patches. Cosmetics are very very good. There are typical lite scuffs and scratches around and about, but nothing major and these are to be expected for a 30 year old synth. But it really looks fantastic! See all pics for cosmetic details. Comes with the uber necessary Kenton Pro DCB dbc to MIDI converter."

“It’s a little orchestra in a box”: We get an exclusive demo of the viral Nopia synth

video upload by MusicRadar Tech

"Nopia is a chord-generating synth that its creators call a 'harmony machine', a unique instrument that caught the attention of millions of music-makers with its harmony-centric workflow and pastel-coloured minimalist design.

The synth went unexpectedly viral when its creators Martin Grieco and Rocío Gal shared a video of a prototype back in 2023, picking up three million views in the space of a week. Three years on, and the small but passionate team behind Nopia has finally finished development, and are almost ready to share the finished product with the world.

Aside from a handful of short videos shared by the Nopia team, the instrument has yet to be shown to the public… until now. We invited Martin and Rocío to the MusicRadar Tech studio to give us an exclusive demo, show us what Nopia can do, and reveal how much the synth will cost when it launches later this year.

In this video:
00:00 – Intro: Nopia synth
01:00 – What is Nopia? 'Harmony machine' explained
08:32 – Using the arp
13:06 – Nopia sound engine explained
15:27 – I/O and MIDI outputs
21:02 – Development progress, Nopia availability and price"

X1L3 - ALLEYKAT - HOMEWARD BOUND - 8580 SID - revision 3 test demo

video upload by X1L3

"Testing the new revision 3 build.

To hop back to 1982 and quote Robotron 2084:
'initial tests indicate all systems ok'....

Nothing fancy. Just pitch and pulse width modulation on two voices. It sounds nice for so little. Makes me think of a melancholy Commodore 64 Radiohead. I like how with no pulse width modulation it sounds basic and cute, then when you hit it with pulse width sweeps it's suddenly the trademark gnarly sound of the C64 📺🕹️❤️💚💙

With the board fixes and minor code tweaks at revision 3, it appears that everything works as it should. The module is complete 😊

Have verified it to work flawlessly with 6581 and 8580 SIDs. It also works perfectly with the Swinsid and Open source SID. I'd imagine an Armsid will work too.

Purrrrrrrrrrfect 🐈🐾🐾🐾

Will keep this one for later. There's a nice demo tune to be had there when all the control in my rig is free again to build it 🎵🎵🎵"
