Woody Piano Shack

"Tutorial explaining how the mysterious drawbars work on the HAMMOND ORGAN B3 and many other models, keyboards and clonewheels like the Nord Electro, C2D, Hammond SK and organs from Viscount and Crumar.

I'll then share some of the most common drawbar settings and registrations that all keyboard players need to know, Jimmy Smith, Full Drawbars, Gospel and more.

We'll use the YAMAHA YC61 and GG AUDIO BLUE3 VST software organ for this demo." MORE WOODY PIANO SHACK

1969 Hammond Innovex synthesizer Condor GSM

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Original guitar synthesizer made by Innovex/Hammond Corp. Made in 1969, this synthesizer works great and truly brings back the sound of Woodstock. Does not include original MIDI cord, and the only small issue's are some of the keys are sticky/dirty and need to be cleaned but all the EFX work. Also, one of the lightbulbs that illuminates the Vibrato/tremolo/repeat (red channel) is not connected but is included (pictured). A great piece for a vintage music collector."

NIN's Beat to Hell DX7 & Greg Allman's B3

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

DX7 via Julien's Auctions

"A DX7 Synthesizer stage used and signed by Nine Inch Nails band members during the 1994-1995 Self Destruct Tour. The synthesizer was originally sold by the group on eBay under their former “Ningear” account in 2001. They used to sell all of their destroyed stage used equipment from various tours. Former band members Danny Lohner and Robin Finck informed the previous owner after he obtained the piece that they invested in the DX7 heavily. Due to its solid metal durability, it could take a beating every night by a mic stand or two, so all they had to do was replace the keys, which saved them thousands of dollars. Housed in the original Nine Inch Nails flight case. The winning bidder is responsible for pickup or shipping of this item from the United Kingdom."

Hammond Auto Vari 64 mid 1970 analog Drum machine meets Eurorack Drum Sequencer from Erica Synths

Maik Schott

"Besides all the Eurorack stuff I finally reactivated my old Hammond Auto Vari 64 and combined it with some new modular stuff I use a lot. What a great melangerie of technique! Peter Clausen, an engineer from Hamburg modded the Auto Vari so now I got 10 separate trigger ins and 6 audio outputs on that machine - wow!"

Hammond Model HEK-1 Mini Organ Synth w/ Built-In Speakers & Cards?

Hammond HEK-2 & HEK_3 Ensemble Keyboard (Junior Hammonds) - Uploaded by Mike Bracchi

SN 05111856 via this auction

First one I've seen. I could find any demos for the HEK-1, but found the video above for the HEK-2 & HEK-3. Looks like these were geared towards kids. Below you'll find a pic of what appears to be some colored cards for it.

I did find the following from RocknRoll Vintage's Synth City who carried them:

"This is a fun mini organ that was only available in Japan, hence the printed Japanese text. Most of the sounds are like a modern beginner Casio keyboard, fairly high quality sample based sounds. However, the organ sounds are great and include the nice draw bars for interacting with the sounds! Unfortunately we can't read Japanese here and the extent of our testing was done by just trying all the buttons and sounds. As far as we know the unit is in perfect working order. The whole panel of buttons was taken apart and cleaned by our repair technician and is functioning very well."

Hammond Novachord Model H Tube Polyphonic Synthesizer Organ

via this auction

“PHYSICAL CONDITION: Fair- There are numerous broken keys in the very lower register, including a missing middle B key. The on-off switch is broke off but it still can be flipped on and off. WORKING CONDITION: Non-Functional- The power amps are not connected and the unit is presumed to be non-functional. All major components are intact. There are numerous scratches, dings and general wear on the wood housing but overall it remains solid and sturdy. This unit is still worthy enough as a major restoration project or to be used for parts."

Hammond Solovox Model K {two] early organ synthesizer

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"Two Model K Hammond Solovox. Both power up and only get a faint "tink tink" sound when pressing keys. Sold for parts or possible repair. The one organ with the wooden base that I had made for the keyboard I had some service done to 25-30 years ago. I used to use that one and the sound was amazing. The sound reminded me of a hunted house. That one some of the stops or tone controls are sticking together and not all the tone controls move independently and need some repair there as well."

Tubes on the back.

Hammond 102100 Analog Synth

via this auction

"Up for bid is a Hammond 102100 Analog Synth. Every key works, every preset works. The volume, tuning and wind sliders work.

Of the 7 button banks, all of them work, electronically speaking, but Tone filters #1,2,5,6 and 7 have to be held down to engage. The springs are properly catching. The same is true of #1-7 of the “Filter rise& fall” speed section.

In total, 12 of the 49 buttons will not stay depressed on their own."

1938 Hammond NOVACHORD SN 105

Some incredible pics of the inside below.

Update via Kenny in the comments worth noting: "Beautiful instrument but no where near the first synthesizer. The Trautonium was already in use and for sale long before the Hammond came out. Even the Hohner Multimonica predates the Hammond. One could say that the Hammond design was heavily inspired by these earlier synthesizers. The Hammond is an amazing instrument so there is no need for false information."

This reminded me of the 120 Years of Electronic Music site. It's a great resource for the timeline of electronic instruments.

Listing description:

"In the late 1930's, Hammond engineers went way above and beyond to create the worlds first electronic synthesizer, and built it the Hammond way ~ the best. I could ramble on all day about this device, but you're honestly better to visit this website, they've fully documented their Novachord and it's restoration.

As for my specific instrument, it's among the very earliest built (#105) and features what I believe is a factory blonde cabinet accent, which I've never seen before. I think it's original because it's so expertly installed, and wraps around the back to the amplifier compartment. The material feels like a grained vinyl (leatherette) with a canvas backing? It's been stripped off on the left side, but you get the idea. The cabinet will need refinishing as seen, but is in remarkable shape for it's age.

When I decided to power it up for the first time, I brought up the voltage on a Variac - slowly. I heard a loud popping sound and found a bad 2A3 tube, which I replaced with a good/tested one. Once up to line voltage, I was able to actually hear this thing play! Volume, vibrato, attack, and various variations of all the controls were essentially functional on the upper half of the keyboard. I didn't get a response from the lower half of the keyboard. This tells me that the basic components (pre-amp, amplifiers, speakers and motor were all functioning) There are 160 vacuum tubes to check, and about 1000 capacitors! You'll have a good and worthy project ahead of you. I do have a short video of my experimentation, happy to email or text it to you! The wiring harnesses, speakers, amplifiers, and other components appear to be in very good cosmetic condition!

Synth Spotting with Portugal The Man & the Millennium Falcon at Disney Parks Christmas Celebration

This one is in via supporting memnber, Dub Assembly:

"Yamaha Montage and Hammond XK-3c being rocked out by Portugal The Man during Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade.

Don’t we all want to perform in front of the Millennium Falcon?!"

I did a little searching and found the video below (they come in at 2:24). Note the date, Nov 15. Curious how many dates they performed. And just for clarity, the video is a random one I found on YouTube and not Dub Assembly's. You'll find two additional close-up pics from Dub Assembly below the video. P.S. In case you missed it one of the planets in the latest Star Wars movie Episode IX is name Kijimi, after Black Corporation's Kijimi. See this post.
