Planar Quantimator (eurorack joystick performance patch)

Published on Jan 27, 2015 bigcitymusic

"This patch quantizes the movement of a joystick to behave as an oscillator melody controller.

Patch notes

* Intellijel Planar CV X to Intellijel Triatt IN A
* Intellijel Triatt OUT C to Toppobrillo Quantimator (this configuration effectively allows Channel A to scale the range of quantization, and Channels B/C can be used as offsets)
* Toppobrillo Sport Modulator END into Quantimator TRIG input
* Quantimator output 1 to Intellijel Rubicon 1V/Oct

A Rubicon triangle wave is being monitored and run through Valhalla Reverb."

Sport Modulator synced modulations patch eurorack

Published on Dec 1, 2014 bigcitymusic

"Toppobrillo Sport Modulator ch. 1 is set to LAG, cycle and ch. 2 is set to S/H, cycle. The end of ch. 1 is feeding ch. 2 S/H. The Sport Modulator is clocking the Plan B MINI Milton which is going into Sport Modulator ch. 2 in. This configuration enables synchronized, stepped and constant changing modulations of the RES-4, MMF-6 and Pittsburgh LPG (filter input signal from Cwejman VCO-6 FM'ed).

Drums are from the Dave Smith Instruments Tempest.

The synth track was run through the Tiptop Z-DSP Halls of Valhalla for stereo reverb post patching.

Peaks, Chaos Computer, Sport Modulator, MX-4S, RG-6, S1 eurorack demo

Published on Nov 19, 2014 bigcitymusic

"Two oscillators from the Cwejman S1 are run through the S1's LPF and MMF and through the RES-4. The filtered signals are run through the MX-4S where the PH-4 is modulating the stereo image.

Peaks is set to ENV EXPERT mode. Manually adjusting the ADSR envelopes to create dynamics. Every note message (sent from Ableton) is multed out from the Peaks and into the Chaos Computer’s X and Y input to change its state with the musical sequence. The Chaos Computer is feeding the RG-6 which is modulating the S1’s MMF set to BP also feeding the RES-4. The Sport Modulator is set to S+H and modulating the PH-4 rate.

Ableton delay added to the synth output."

Livewire Chaos Computer, Sport Modulator, RES-4, D-LFO patch

Published on Nov 6, 2014 bigcitymusic

"We discovered a cool use for the Livewire Chaos Computer. In this video a MIDI Fighter is sending MIDI notes to the Pittsburgh MIDI2 module which is tracking the pitch of a Cwejman VCO-6 routed through the Cwejman RES-4.

A new pattern is generated on the Livewire Chaos Computer every time a MIDI note is pressed. Depending on the pattern generated, the Chaos Computer will adjust the bandwidth of the RES-4 bandpass filters. Every generated pattern on the Chaos Computer may or may not advance the Pittsburgh Sequencer which will FM the VCO-6 and determine which channel of the D-LFO will FM the RES-4 (configured via the WMD Triple BiPolar VCA).

The Toppobrillo Sport-Modulator is modulating the trip sync point of D-LFO Ch. 1 and Ch. 2, and the Chaos Computer determines what voltage to apply to the trip sync point CV input based on whether or not the binary triggers the S+H of Sport Modulator Ch. 2, which is being modulated by Sport Modulator Ch. 1."

Modular Synth - Fun With Quantisers - Quantimator / Doepfer

Published on Oct 31, 2014

"Here's a patch that's heavily quantised using a Toppobrillo Quantimator and a Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer.

Some patch notes:

The Klee is running in 2x8 mode with output A having a re-settable random voltage applied to it via the Turing Machine.
CV outputs from A and B are going to the Doepfer A-156.

A CV output from the Turing Machine is going into the Quantimator, which is being clocked at x3 of the root tempo.

The Turing Machine is being clocked first at x1 then changing back and forth between x1 and x2.

CV outs from the Quantimator are feeding 2 x Doepfer A-110's and a Verbos Harmonic Oscillator, the CV outs from the Doepfer A-156 Dual Quantizer are feeding 2 x Doepfer A-110 oscillators, and one of them is multed to a Livewire AFG.

The only filtering is on one (AFG) part which is the slightly squelchy bass bit. The rest are just raw from the oscillators, apart from the one from the Verbos which is going through a Cyndustries Saw Animator to create a thick bassline type thing.

Here's the finished track which will be released on my next album....

grayscale algorhythm module

grayscale algorhythm module from hpsounds on Vimeo.

"This is a demo of the new Grayscale Algorhythm module. It's a 100% modular one take video with a good measure of effects (ValhallaDSP and Eventide Eclipse). Best listen at high volume on a good system or good headphones.

The main voice is 2 detuned Cwejman VCO-6 filtered by a Toppobrillo Multifilter, enveloppes are 2 Malekko/Wiard Envelator.

The big evolving pad is a Mutable Instruments Braids oscillator (WMAP mode, 8bits, 8Khz - that's part of the trick), no filtering but a lot of shimmering effects to get this lush and deep tone (I love it !).

The third element is a long fieldrecording loop of hand manipulated stones from Iceland (they are precisely from Vonaskarð) - triggered in Ableton Live.

The main sequence is driven by 3 different clocks which gives this progressive poly-rhythm feel : one trig each beat (TipTopAudio Z8000), one trig each two beat (left Algorhythm module), one trig each three beat (Algorhythm module). The two Algorhythm modules' PATTERN OUT are mixed together, and trig the envelopes (Malekko Envelator) and the quantizer (TRIG IN of the Quantimator, which samples the CV sequence coming from the Z8000).

BTW, these Algorhythm modules are the first and only one in Iceland ... up to now :-)

ps : sorry for the "hiss" noise all along this video, it's an artefact of how I've recorded the audio with my digital camera."
