Happy Halloween everyone! Rarely do I lean into the ‘haunted-sounds’ reputation that the theremin is known for, but something about this year’s spooky season made me want to indulge in that way with an original composition. ๐

o Theremin Controlled Ring Modulator
o Automatic Tune and Stabilise
The Midi Theremin in a "nutshell" :
We are exited to introduce you to a revolutionary approach to an old theme. We have re-invented this almost ancient electronic musical instrument and brought it into the 21 century. Using the power of modern electronics, we have unlocked new frontiers and enable you to make creative music in a new way.
Our Midi Theremin is more than just a simple Theremin:
(1) It can be played like a normal Theremin producing audio from a variety of build in oscillators, wave-forms and modulators, to create a multitude of different sounds and effects.
(2) It is also a very flexible Theremin Midi-controller. It is capable of producing a stream of midi messages like pitch-bend-messages, control-messages and note-on/off messages to control other midi-capable instruments or samplers. Using a "trigger-pad" , the Midi Theremin becomes a percussion instrument that can trigger samples and modulate them accurately in various ways.
(3) The Wave Theremin can also be used as a theremin controlled filter and ring-modulator, processing signals from the audio input or internal generators and sending the resulting wave forms to the audio output. The ladder-style self-oscillating 24 dB resonant filter is one of our favorite, allowing you to "play harmonics" in a new way.
A note from the designer:
Obviously this Theremin is more geared towards the "electronic music experimentalist" (like myself) and the Techno performer, and therefore demands it's own niche in the market (Sorry all you Theremin-Purists out there). Having one hand occupied with accurately controlling the pitch, leaves the other hand free to create improvised rhythms or to adjust all those parameters i.e. octave skipping, auto-trigger and volume etc...
Friendly Regards, Horst Gruhle, Design Engineer.

Moog Etherwave Theremin Is For You and Your Modular Synth
video upload by Patchwerks
"In this Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) demonstrates the new Moog Etherwave Theremin along with a short tutorial on how to use it. After getting acquainted with Theremin Matthew demonstrates how to integrate the Theremin into a Eurorack setup.
Learn more about the Moog Etherwave Theremin here: https://bit.ly/MoogEth
For over 60 years, Moog theremins have captured the imagination of players and audiences alike. Most recently over the last two decades, Moog’s Etherwave Standard and Etherwave Plus have set the bar of performance theremin design. Now, the all-time highest selling theremin models get an update to become simply Etherwave Theremin.
With no reeds to blow, no keys to press, and no strings to pluck, the theremin defies all expectations of a musical instrument. It is instead played in a manner that seemingly conjures music from the ether, simply through the motion of the body when close to the instrument. Throughout history, performers have achieved unprecedented expression by mastering this unique connection between the hands, the body, the environment, and the instrument.
The theremin’s elegant simplicity and unparalleled expressivity fueled Bob Moog’s lifelong love affair with the instrument, from building his first theremin at age 14 and completing his final theremin design at age 70. Today, Etherwave Theremin carries on this legacy with a design that is refined for the modern theremin performer.

Meet the New Etherwave Theremin
The Octopus Project | Moog Etherwave video upload by Moog Music Inc
"To debut the new Etherwave Theremin, Austin-based electronica group The Octopus Project performs their original track 'I Saw the Bright Shinies' in a performance filmed in the Moog Sound Lab.
In this performance, Etherwave Theremin takes the stage as both a lead instrument and a CV controller for the Moog Matriarch paraphonic semi-modular analog synth (as a creative way to play its filter). To complement the two distinct theremin applications you see and hear, multi-instrumentalists Yvonne Lambert, Spencer Stephenson, Toto Miranda, and Josh Lambert reimagine the 2007 song using vintage and modern Moog synthesizers: Moog One, Prodigy, Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother-32, DFAM, Subharmonicon.

"For over 60 years, Moog theremins have captured the imagination of players and audiences alike. Most recently over the last two and a half decades, Etherwave Standard and Etherwave Plus have set the bar for performance theremin design. Now, the all-time best-selling theremin models get an update to become simply Etherwave Theremin.
The new Etherwave Theremin focuses on the preservation of Bob Moog’s legendary theremin circuits to retain all the charm and character that made its predecessors so unique and sought after, while adding a host of new benefits:
Improved bass response and stability in the lowest registers
Updated antenna connections to enable quick assembly and easy removal for travel
Quick-release mic stand adapter for attaching and detaching the instrument from mic stands
Mute control for setting the instrument into a standby mode or used for “pitch preview” via headphones
CV output integration from Etherwave Plus (Gate Out, Pitch Out, Vol. Out) for connecting with other modular, Eurorack, and CV-controlled instruments"

xx Calder Plays Theremin | Dorit Chrysler
video upload by The Museum of Modern Art
Calder Plays Theremin | Behind the Scenes
video upload by Moog Music Inc
"We invite you to take a behind-the-scenes look at the making of "Calder Plays Theremin," directed by filmmaker Michael Tyburski, featuring an original sound piece by composer and sound artist Dorit Chrysler.
In a new piece filmed at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, Berlin-based thereminist (and our dear friend) Dorit Chrysler brings a collection of electronic instruments together with sculptures on display in the museum’s 'Alexander Calder: Modern from the Start' exhibition for a novel experiment in sound and motion.
'Calder Plays Theremin' pays homage to both inventor Leon Theremin, whose eponymous invention has inspired generations of musicians and musical instrument creators, and sculptor Alexander Calder, who reimagined the art of sculpture as “an experiment in space and motion, upending centuries-old notions that sculpture should be static, grounded, and dense by making artworks that often move freely and interact with their surroundings,” according to MoMA. In this piece, Calder’s sculptures control the sound of each theremin, making for a truly unique and magical composition among these objects, personified as artists for the occasion. 'To hear a theremin trigger the Moog Model 15 synthesizer in the Sculpture Garden—priceless. The sound of a Calder mobile element rubbing against the antenna of a theremin producing microtonal sound in slight movement—breathtaking.' -composer and thereminist Dorit Chrysler
Visit moogmusic.com to read our complete interview with Dorit, where she shares what inspired her to develop the concept for this piece."
