Mr Woofer - Synth Demos

Published on Oct 6, 2017 Mr Woofer

Playlist:

1. Mr Woofer - Enter Space (Atari STE Demo)
"Enter Space!" says Sinclair Spectrum ZX through its Currah uSpeech synthesizer. The Atari STE and its Yamaha YM2149F chip in all its square wave glory does exactly that. The tools used to control the STE are NSQ (Near Synthesizer Quality), Chip Synth and MaxYMiser.

The powerful beats are coming from NI Massive except for the Hi-hats and noise bursts which are also Atari STE. As usual external reverb and delay are added. Hope you enjoy it!

Friend-Chip MrLab RhythmLab Modular Synthesizer-System

via this auction

details in Googlish:

"Music computer system. Historically, to document the development of the former German Synthi-scene, this is a very important and unique exhibit. It probably dates from the time of the Berlin School synth in the 70s.

Here was a complete music system in a professional Flightcase to a transportation unit, consisting of

1. Level:
modular synthesizer unit
The special synthesizer module in the upper part of the set:
This elaborate special Anferigung duo consists of a digital generator
with exact half-way voice and several envelope-formers such as filters.
These are the underlying Mr.LAB-linking system.

2. Level:
MR.LAB
computer sequencer unit.

3. Level:
RHYTHM LAB
Trans Poser
a drum sequencer trigger unit.
Right there is a button for immediate octave transpositions of
top generator unit, linked with the MR.LAB.

4. Level:
FC350 (RhythmLab extension of the individual outputs)
Cassette interface
In the bottom row left the digital DRUM module FRIENDSHIP.
It is with the RHYTHM LAB-driven and has individual outputs,
and a stereo-OUT with mixed field.
Right there is a cassette recorder for the UP / DOWN-LOAD the Trig / Tone data.

The Rhythm Lab Friend Chip first came to one device on the market, on the one hand the functions of traditional rhythm and other devices offered the old desire fulfilled, even rhythms freely invent them.

You could also still usual 32 programs and select any combination. There are Drumpart and percussion (both 12 cycles) separate presets, so that here a variety of combinations available. Over a foot switch or through a break-probe 1 may also 8 bars breaks are retrieved.

The computer now allows 32 bars free program. For rapid work to copy a preset to the "Bar On Program" to him after his own tastes change.

With another break switch 2 may break sequences are retrieved, breaks with as many bars in the sequence as they occur in music pieces, strung together.

Modern technology offers not only an imitation of the toms, bass drum, etc. but also shares the metallic sound of snare drum and cymbals.

In addition to the stereo out, there is a clock-out for synchronization with sequencers.

As an optional modification, a cassette interface offered to prepared programs on tape to store and quickly retrieve, and an extension with individual outputs for each instrument and the possibility of the amplitudes separately regulated. This is here with us.

Mr.Lab was a computer sequence of the new generation, in which one up to 2048 tones could save (in the 16th represents udn Triplets The 64 bars), and at a range of 4 octaves and individual design for each tone (filter, loudness, Sustain). A novel computer-linked keyboard melody and rhythm input. With only musical instruments (any programmer working with numerical codes deleted) Mr.Lab offers a previously unheard clarity and flexibility. This new approach then, and the extensive Composer software Mr.Lab recommended not only for quick, creative work in the studio and trouble-free use in life performances, but also as a composition, arrangement and notation help.
Rhythm: 2048 Steps, with three voltages, program, and four Gate Trigger! Input clock for clock the chip by Friend developed rhythm keyboard, any Tonlängen, triplets, all types of stroke, continuously variable, optical acoustic monitor

melody: four octaves, input directly playable on Melody keyboard, a visual indicator in the keys assigned to the rhythm is displayed, fast, smooth Correct LOUDNESS, filter, sustain: to be assigned to the displayed tone, dynamics, accents, accurate Tonlängen, optical monitor, continuously variable multi-trigger: four from the melody tracks are independent trigger for controlling an electronic drum, etc. available, 64 free programmable cycles

tempo: digitally adjustable, four-digit display, seconds to milliseconds

At the Trans Poser, I can actually say very little, except that a button is missing a button. He has a 20-key keyboard (quasi 1 1 / 2 octaves), as well as octave up / down. Interesting find here the Porta Mentor Egler, possibly to Transpose to perform smoothly.

The cassette device appears at first glance a little suspect, so far it seems from a hi-fi unit seems to come, but if it's because its purpose ...

About modular synthesizer unit I could find no information, whether by friend-chip comes from. The push-button recall. It is a modular system consisting of 2 VCOs, PWM, VCF, VCA, Trigger, ADSR and LFO that has a separate bar with standard jacks patched."

Creating MPE Sounds on the OB-6 with Roli LUMI Keys (No Talking)

video upload by MR TUNA Music

"MPE is the most exciting advancement in instrument technology since the inception of MIDI and I've just got my hands on the Roli LUMI Keys Studio Edition to take control of the newly updated capabilities of the awesome and analog Sequential OB-6 synthesizer.

Featuring per-note pitchbend and poly-aftertouch, the LUMI Keys makes for an incredibly expressive playing experience and brings the synth into completely new territories. It's an extremely satisfying way to enjoy the sounds of the OB-6 and something I hope you'll enjoy as I build up some patches from an initialized tone, going from basic to bonkers.

No talking or time-wasting, just pure sound design and exploration.

Roli LUMI Keys is first keyboard controller offering per-key pitchbend and polyphonic aftertouch, plus whole-key illumination for scales, performance, and composing.

Per-key pitchbend and polyphonic aftertouch
Whole-key illumination
Expandability through magnetic connectors
ROLI Studio software suite
DS5.5 sized keys
Compact and easily transportable

Its seriously a great tool for taking control in and out of the studio."

10 Synth Riffs That Shook the World

Published on Aug 30, 2019 Espen Kraft

"'Thriller' by the build-up into the main hook, 'The Final Countdown' by it's majestic synth brass sound and also build up. 'Take on Me' by it's catchy almost arpeggio-like way of playing, along with the staccato DX synth bass, 'Save a Prayer' by utilizing the pitch bend wheel in a new way as well as the different keys the chords take throughout the song. Axel F for simplicity yet intoxicating main hook and bass, 'New Song' for the way Mr. HJ so effortlessy managed several synths at the same time, yet playing that catchy riff. 'Light my Fire' by sheer awesomeness in the outragious use of different keys and chords in that short amount of time the solo lasts. 'Deep Red' by its use of different time signatures and the way is so hypnotizing together with the visuals of the movie. Lastly 'Toccata and Fugue in Dm', pure madness and every note just adds to the madness. I've taken insoiration from this piece for years and many of my songs have snippets of that in it, in different ways."

Featuring the KORG DW-8000 and Roland D-50.

The Bats of Ballard - 44.5

The Bats of Ballard - 44.5 from Steve Turnidge on Vimeo.

No synths?! Then why post this? Well, every now and then I like to share what the makers of synths are doing out there in addition to making the gear we love. Enter, Steve Turnidge of SYNTHWERKS. That's him on bass. I ran into him last night at the Jean-Michel Jarre show, along with Jamie Simmonds, aka Mr.Simmonds. It was an amazing show BTW. There are two dates left on the tour: https://jeanmicheljarre.com. Just go! If you can make it, you will not be dissapointed. Anyway, Steve shared the video above with me and I thought I'd post it. Enjoy the non-synth music, although there are some keys in there, mainly organ.

Sequential Circuit Prophet T8 Synthesizer

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

via the seller: "Two years ago I had my Prophet T8 serviced by the knowledgeable folks at Wine Country, the defacto authorities beyond Mr. Dave Smith on Sequential Circuits gear. After spending about a grand on my synth, they told me my T8 was one of the best physical condition synth (T8) they had ever worked on or seen. I've got pics to draw your own conclusions from; send request and I will provide. This Prophet synth is the best of the Prophet series, with weighted keys, velocity sensing provided per solid state switching that provides a wider dynamic range in velocity sensitivity, with release time controlled by the velocity with which the key is released. This was revolutionary technology back in the day my friends. After touch can be used to control the frequency of Oscillators A and B, pulse width of OSC A and B, as well as filter, amplifier, LFO, and LFO Frequency. It includes an onboard sequencer, is eight voice with 16 oscillators assignable in four modes: Single Mode with all eight voices across all six octaves, Double Model which blends two different programs into each of four voices, Split Mode divides the keyboard and allocates four voices to each side of a programmable split point; and UNISON Mode which combines up to eight voices on one note.... 76 keys with midi. The Prophet T8 is the the heaviest beast full of filters and analogue goodness ever made by SCI. This synth plays, looks, and sounds immaculate; auction price begins at $5500 NOTE::: As this synth is listed for sale locally, I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time; Ive allready had inquiries and offer, first come first jam out to the maximum.... BTW, I had a nice fellow advise me that shipping post was in error; and he was right. The shipping is the buyers responsibility, and will be added to your bid. Ive shipped synths for years without any problems, but given this synths weight ( about 70 pounds boxed up ), I believe you should budget at least a couple of hundred bucks for shipment. Blessings and best regards; and thanks to my friend for the heads up. .."

Musikmesse: Roland GAIA SH-01

via jalvac of Future Music Spain. Googlish here.

"37 keys of standard size, battery operation and no hidden options, these are the hallmarks of GAIA SH-01, a synth built on the great tradition of Roland's analog synths compact. Offers a 64-voice polyphony and a intuitive user panel where the faders and knobs are arranged from left to right to indicate the signal flow. This is a tool with which you can relive the joy and satisfaction they once felt when you put your hands on your first analog synth. Three oscillators per voice, multimode filters, envelopes nine generators and a system of meaning ... It comes equipped for the challenges of live performances, and other benefits of GAIA SH-01 include a phrase sequencer, input external audio (with a function to attenuate the sounds of speech) and the ability to record directly onto a USB key."

RS042 M-Audio Venom: The Bad Guy

video upload by rejected synths

"It one of storytelling's oldest tricks, the bad guy that turn out to be the good guy. From Dickens’ Ebeneezer Scrooge to Jane Austen‘s Mr Darcy, from J.K Rowling‘s Snape to (who ever came up with him!?) Jonny Lawrence from Corbra Kai, the tough guys aren‘t as tough in the end and often the bad reputation they carry isn‘t really their own fault.

So, will a synth that is both notorious for being little more than a dub step noise machine and a cheaply built and quickly abandoned piece of glossy white plastic actually turn out to be the hero of the story?

It very much depends on who tells the story here, as M-Audio‘s Venom clearly has it‘s strengths if you can overlook the questionable design decisions made during it‘s inception. Like the hard to read grey on grey lettering or the fact that M-Audio thinks it totally ok for a stand alone hardware synth to heavily rely on a software editor that requires a PCor Mac to be able to utilize most of its extensive set synth engine features. Even the Virtual Analog Synthesizer claim that is prominently featured on the synth itself, it a bit of a hoax, as the Venom basically is just a souped up Rompler running on Amtel‘s Dream series ICs that were also found in PC sound cards and Karaoke Machines in the late 90s and early 2000s.

If you ignore these shortcomings and manage to get the editor running, you might be surprised of what the Venom can actually do. Apart from all the obvious dirty and distorted stuff, a lot can be achieved with the synth engine. Also as it was designed as an all in one solution for music beginners, you can even use it to record and process other instruments and even your own voice (vocoder anyone?).

Last but not least, the Venom might be pretty much the only synth whose price tag doesn‘t seem to have skyrocketed during the pandemic, here in Europe, you can still regularity find one for around 100€!

Curious? Then go ahead and press play!"
