⌛Time Past ⌚ ~ First OP-1 Field Jam
video upload by Postmodern Machine
"Hello ๐๐ผ♂️
My Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field arrived two weeks ago. ๐พ
I have never had or used one of these in the past and I'm building lots of thoughts on it, most of which are positive! Overall it's a super inspiring machine if you are keyboard based for being creative wherever you are. ๐ฟ
I started exploring it by building this track. One small gripe I have is the lack of crossfades when editing with cuts, which is very simple to do in a DAW and remove all clicks and pops. There is really no reason that cuts to the tape should create clicks and pops. My main synth loop on this had a click in the edit at each loop, but when I built the other tracks, I used some more savvy techniques to cut the loops as far from sounds as possible, to prevent clicks and pops. This did work well and when I brought everything into the computer, I only had to fix my one loop. ๐คฒ๐ผ That said, it's a bit cumbersome to work around loop points to get the result I want.
The OP-1 so far is a really really fun way to be creative. It was still a blast despite any quirks. If you can accept of the limitations as just something to work around. I used the vintage 4-track simulation for this. ๐ผ

Streetscape and OP-1 Field ๐ฟ Excruciating Minutiae
video upload by Postmodern Machine
"๐ขA streetscape in San Pancho Mexico with Soundtrack๐ก
I was lucky to film so much on my Honeymoon in Mexico. There was beautiful movement all around. In some cases I captured sound using my Fuji X-T30 and Oade Brothers micro mics that I have had for many years and pulled out for the trip. ๐ค
I made a piece of music focusing on the OP-1 Field string synth. I pre planned using the Chase Bliss/Meris CXM 1978 on the final mix, so did not overdo the layering. I used the endless sequencer to create some repeating patterns and the mono delay to add some slow repeats or in some layers the spring reverb to each recorded sound. I used the Studio tape emu for the first time. I have been finding the noise/hiss on the other emu's compounds in a not so flattering way. This is something I hope TE refines in a future update. Tape his should not compound with each track recorded onto it, and it would be nice if the hiss level could be controlled.
I used the new FW update to the field with velocity sensitivity built into each sequence and I used the new record panning feature while committing ideas. The bass was performed live on the keyboard into the field while playing the other layers through the CXM 1978 and my outboard into the DAW. In Reaper, I added EQ, compression and filtering. Filterfreak creates a unique rhythmic pattern that adds a lot of interest to the high frequencies of the piece. The street sounds were added once I had decided this shot would fit the best with the music. Some verb and volume automation was added to the streetscape sounds. While mixing I accidentally sped up the OP-1 tracks in reaper by about 20% due to changing the tempo, but after noting this and comparing to the original speed, I liked the faster version more and decided to keep it.

The Teenage Engineering OP-1 has been dethroned: The best-selling electronic gear on Reverb in 2024

via Reverb
"Each year, Reverb takes stock of what musicians across the globe are buying and selling as a way to keep players up to date on the latest gear trends. Today, we're sharing a big one: The best-selling electronic gear on Reverb this year.
The headline: After five years, the Teenage Engineering Op-1 has been dethroned. That's right -- the TE OP-1 is no longer the best-selling piece of electronic gear for the first time in half a decade...and oh how the mighty have fallen, with the OP-1 coming in at #5. However, it's not all bad for the Swedish synth brand.
Teenage Engineering had three pieces of gear -- the OP-1 (#5), the EP-133 K.O. II (#6), and the OP-1 Field (#11) -- in the top-10, as the brand continues to expand. Point and case: Teenage Engineering debuted the OP-XY just last month.
Both the OP-1 (#3) and the OP-1 Field (#19) finished inside of the top-20 best-selling used synths and electronic gear.
Elektron's Digitakt topped the list, largely due to the release of the Digitakt II and Digitone II models earlier this year. The brand's 2024 debuts helped propel Elektron's Digitone to #9 -- and you can get both the Digitone and Digitakt for a great price thanks to a $160+ drop in the cost of used models for both.
The Digitakt topped the list of best-selling used synths and electronic gear this year, further proving its popularity.
The Ableton Push 2 (#2) and the Korg Drumlogue (#4) both jumped into the top-five thanks to great deals from the brands' respective official Reverb shops.
Korg finished as second on the list of the best-selling electronic gear brands, while Roland took home the gold, Yamaha took home silver, and Akai and Arturia rounded out the top-five.
While Ableton's Push 2 was a best-seller, the standalone Push 3 was beat out by Native Instruments' Maschine+, which finished #11 on the list of the overall best-selling drum machines, samplers, and controllers.

OP-1 Field Dimension Synth Engine // Ambient Music Making
video upload by Mega Modularis
"Hello there!
Back again with another OP-1 Field video! You all seemed to enjoy the last one so much, so thank you! Here is another ambient music piece, this time with the constraint of using only one of the OP-1’s Synth engines— Dimension, a synth engine added to the OP-1 Field.
It’s a great synth engine and possibly one of my favourites on the OP-1, so sit back & enjoy, as we make a little bit of ambient using just the Dimension Synth Engine!
MM."

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. In light of recent events we are going to talk about OP-1 Field.
While other manufacturers either “pass on savings from process optimization” or relentlessly jack up prices once people are actually buying their music making toys, our favorite interior design company/copyright agency/nepo baby cult just flexed their monstrous marketing muscle and - did both at the same time.

The Touring Musician's Dream Synth? +GIVEAWAY (USA)
video upload by HAINBACH
"Thanks to @PerfectCircuit for sponsoring this video and giving away an OP-1 Field to one of my treasured viewers (US residents only). Follow the instructions in this link (live at 10 AM Pacific) to enter the contest: https://bit.ly/3gL5AI5
I did not like the OP-1 Field at first glance. I travelled around the world with my ten year old battered original OP-1 and played it in countless shows, songs, and soundtracks. I used it like a Swiss Army knife - at home I have instruments that do each individual job better, but on the road the OP-1 is a wonderful combination of tools. It became one of my most important instruments. When the newest iteration came around it felt strange - I was very attached to my OP-1, so I did not want to give the Field a real chance. But when I took it with me on tour and travels over the past months, that changed."

๐The Approaching Stillness๐ณ ~ TE OP-1 Field Ambient
video upload by Postmodern Machine
"Hey! ๐ค
Here's another piece I created on the OP-1 Field in the first few weeks of ownership, and before having to charge the battery for the 1st time! ๐ฟ
For this track I used the cassette tape (porta simulation) ๐ผ I found it a bit tricky to balance distortion and grit with hiss and input level. This track is fairly hissy on full range systems, but it still sounds very nice. I may end up preferring the vintage 4 track as a compromise between lo-fi and fidelity.
I have enjoyed messing with the various sequencers and the modulation section. This track has a healthy dose of the mother reverb, but the master effect is the mono delay, which in this track is set to repeat many times. As it's coming up in the center position it almost adds a 5th sound source to the 4 tracks. ๐
This piece is coming off the OP-1 as a mix. I stored the 4 tracks in case I need them later, but essentially just mastered the mix after recording it into my DAW through the analogue listed below. The piece is as performed in this case, with no edits. I want to see what the OP-1 field alone is capable of ๐งจ

Teenage engineering OP-1 Field // First Look direct from Superbooth 2022
video upload by Starsky Carr
"First look at the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field. Its the latest incarnation of the classic and well loved OP-1 and its an absolute stunner. Looks great, and from what I could hear above the crowds at Superbooth has some great additions.
Unfortunately my audio recorder's SD card decided to corrupt all my files from this morning so this is camera mic only. Although its not ideal you can still hear what Tobias has to say so I thought I'd upload and I hope it doesn't spoil your enjoyment of the video too much."

Beat w/ TR-707, OP-1 field, NTS-1, Prophet-10 | Closed Door 2025-05-29 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created with the @rolandglobal TR-707, @SequentialLLC Prophet-10, @MoogSynthesizers Grandmother, @teenageengineering OP-1 field, and @KORG_INC NTS-1. Over a steady beat, two contrasting melodies appear in turn: one shaped by a looping envelope, the other a whistling tone rich in modulation.
Rhythm: The TR-707 is triggered from the DAW over MIDI, its output sent through @ChaseBlissAudio LOSSY for lo-fi processing.
Bass: Played on the Grandmother.
Chords: Performed on the Prophet-10.
Melodies:
NTS-1 runs an envelope generator in loop mode to create a modulating line.
OP-1 field delivers a whistle-like lead, modulated with the CWO effect."

Minimal Ambient w/ KORG NTS-1, OP-1 field, Tape Loop | Isle in the sky 2025-04-11 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created with the @KORG_INC NTS‑1, @teenageengineering OP‑1 field, and tape loops—a minimal ambient work where repeating arpeggios blend with tape‑sourced piano and melodic fragments.
KORG NTS‑1: Controlled via MIDI from the DAW. Its audio output runs through @strymon NIGHTSKY for reverb, filtering, and pitch modulation.
Tape loop: Routed through @ChaseBlissAudio LOSSY, which applies filtering and packet‑loss effects while fading the sound in and out.
OP‑1 field: Also driven by MIDI from the DAW. Bit reduction is applied with the built‑in TERMINAL effect, and the signal is further shaped with reverb and micro‑loops via the MOOD MK II.
Strings and additional layers: Overdubbed in the DAW."

video upload by atnr
"A piece created using the @SequentialLLC Prophet-10 and @teenageengineering OP-1 field. The gentle electronic tones from both synthesizers overlap and gradually fade away.
The sound from the OP-1 field is processed through @ChaseBlissAudio LOSSY with filtering. LOSSY is CV-controlled by the @KORG_INC SQ-1, causing its parameters to change gradually.
The Prophet-10 is played manually, with its output processed through blueSky for reverb."

Session w/ OP-1 field, wavestick, Max for Live | PLA 2025-02-27 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created using Max for Live's synth @noine-giron NOImodGen ( https://noine.gumroad.com/l/noi-mod-gen ), the @teenageengineering OP-1 field, and @homebakeinstruments8214 wavestick. Electronic sounds with gentle modulation, drones, and drum elements interweave.
I use three instances of NOImodGen to create an arpeggio, harmony, and bassline.
Wavestick produces drones, and its pitch is altered using the SQ-1's buttons. The output is processed with filters and reverb via @ChaseBlissAudio LOSSY and @gfisys SPECULAR TEMPUS.
On the OP-1 field, I perform synth parts, applying its built-in CWO effect and further processing with reverb from @strymon NIGHTSKY."
