Sequentix Cirklon: Live Jam 12-2-13—Echo Return

Published on Dec 2, 2013 Echo Return

"Live jam on Sequentix Cirklon, 12-2-13.

Gear used:
Sequentix Cirklon
Roland TR-707 (Circuit bent)
Roland TR-727 (Circuit bent)
Ladyada x0xb0x
Yamaha AN-200
Yamaha DX-200
Alesis 3630 Compressor
Electrix Warp Factory vocoder
Novation A-Station
Yamaha MEP4
TC Electronic M-300 stereo delay
Line6 Filter Pro
PreSonus Studio One DAW

PreSonus Studio One is used for audio recording, compression, and reverb. No MIDI.

This is my first live jam on the Cirklon. All sequences created in Cirklon. MIDI sent to Ladyada x0xb0x is also sent to Yamaha MEP-4, which is sending three MIDI-delays of this sequence to the Novation A-Station, each on separate octaves.

AN-200 signal is fed through Alesis 3630, gate is triggered by rim shot sound from the Roland TR-707. The Yamaha AN-200 is then routed through Filter Pro and M-300. Setting the Cirklon's pattern to "Brownian" makes for some great, unpredictable-but-musically-relevant gating effects.

Yamaha DX-200 signal is fed through Electrix Warp Factory with no formant input, for creepy robot chanting sounds.

Pseudorandom drum 'improvisation' is created by a track on the Cirklon where toms and additional snares have a 30% chance of triggering per step."

Minimoog & More - Videos by martinjazz78

Published on Jan 11, 2017 martinjazz78

There are 12 videos in this playlist by martinjazz78. They start with Moog's recently discontinued Minimoog Model D followed by the Voyager. Other gear featured include Analogue Solutions Telemark - K, the Dreadbox Erebus, DSI Polyevolver, Sequentix Cirklon, and a Rhodes. There are a couple of live band performances in there as well.

Playlist:

1. New Minimoog D - Brass Patch Solo - Complete Session
2. New Minimoog D - Brass Patch Solo #2 with Rhodes, Telemark and Erebus
"Published on Jan 11, 2017
This is complete session video of my dawless improvisation on the new Minimoog Model D. I started with sort of brass patch with filter modulation and filter tweaking and little bit more of glide, but it develops and changes to not so brassy lead throughout the video. Sequences on the background are Erebus by Dreadbox and Telemark-K as well as DSI Polyevolver.

Vinyl Debut by NYZ - SHFTR FRQ - Featuring Aphex Twin's Sequentix Cirklon & PreenFM2

"+ [Special note for track A9 - SHFTR_CA#BB1] => A huge shout of thanks to Richard D James for gifting me a Sequentix Cirklon sequencer and PreenFM2 synth during my Regional Arts Fellowship in 2017! This was the first track I made using this gear. You can also read up more about my open source Farey Sequence FM programming tool for the PreenFM here =>
github.com/noyzelab/FareyPreenFM2

++ Folks interested in using cellular automata can also check out my open source Arduino based synth module here =>
github.com/noyzelab/uMANIAC"

NYZ of Noyzelab has a new release out on neon orange vinyl (limited to 300 copies) titled SHFTR FRQ which features PreenFM2 sequenced by the Sequentix Cirklon. You will find a track off the release above. Below you will find some exclusive pics sent my way from NYZ and info on the release from Forced Exposure where it is available in the US. The album is available in the UK from Boomkat here. Update: it's also available at Phonica Records, Norman Records, Juno Records, Redeye Records, and Bleep.

"The Death of Rave is honored to plate up the vinyl debut by NYZ; the cult, algorithmic/ generative music project of award-winning artist/scientist Dave Burraston (Bryen Telko, Noyzelab). The A-side revolves 14 succinct blatz, ranging from cranky percussive pieces to queered microtonal dissonance and SAW II-like atmospheres -- notably including one track made on a Sequentix Cirklon sequencer and PreenFM2 synth gifted him by Richard D. James. The B-side contains a steeply immersive spectral drone tract that (never) ends in a locked groove, especially cut at D&M, Berlin. The results are wholly unique and speak to the endless, playfully experimental variation of NYZ's art/research. They reveal visceral, alien microcosms of curdled microtonal tunings and proprioceptive chicanery bound to thrill and induce strange, new sensations in even the most hard-to-please fiend of electronic music. It's strongly recommended to followers of Russell Haswell's chaotic gnash, the mind-bending tunings of Aphex Twin, the visionary algorithmic scapes of Roland Kayn, and Eliane Radigue's microtonal meditations. In Dave's own words:

"SHFTR FRQ is a series of experimental studies into simple synth setups controlled by varying levels of generative complex systems [MANIAC cellular automata]. SHFTR FRQ was recorded over the last six years on an ever-changing hybrid of equipment encompassing the domains of modular and MIDI-based microtonal sound synthesis [analog and digital]. Setups were always ultra-minimalist, often with just the MANIAC cellular automata sequencer and one or two modules/synths to provide a consistent sensory focus. The studies range from ultra-short sequences, micro-ditties, investigatory motifs, to a full length high spectral drone meditation."

Burraston has previously collaborated with Alan Lamb on recordings of a mile-long telephone wire in the Australian outback, and more recently he issued nearly a dozen NYZ tapes and CDs with some of the most crucial modern music labels, as well as a number of releases under the Noyzelab and Bryen Telko aliases. In 2014, Dave self-published SYROBONKERS!, the most technical and in-depth interview ever given by Aphex Twin. Screen-printed jacket. RIYL: Russell Haswell, Aphex Twin, Eliane Radigue, EVOL/ALKU, Roland Kayn."

Sequentix Cirklon + Sonic|Core XITE-1 - MIDI test1

YouTube Uploaded by neutron7 on Jun 27, 2011

"Completely DSP non analog abomination!

A single pattern on Sequentix Cirklon running only Sonic|Core XITE-1 DSP synthesizers, (synthesized)drums and effects through 1 MIDI cable.

No DAW was running, it was recorded direct to disc with VDAT, then substituted directly to the video track (and some video effects added for fun).

I did not do any mixing, just turned tracks on and off on the Cirklon, and a little tweaking of filter and note lengths data on the three-0-three track.

Most of the synths were in monophonic mode, the total DSP usage on the XITE-1 was about 40%

This was a test to see how good the MIDI timing would be from Cirklon to XITE-1. it is great! many of the problems with Scope and MIDI, using DAW+OS+MIDI driver+motherboard do not manifest at all. and it sounds VERY tight.

The Orbitone three -o- three was notorious for stuck notes. I never got one in 2 days, with major messing about with its data while running, even with 3 tracks playing a single instance at the same time(which used to almost guarantee a stuck note), or sometimes leaving it running to do chores or whatnot."

Sequentix Cirklon 2, Minimoog, Prophet 12, SX-240, Nord Drum 2 IDM electronic track

video upload by MIDERA

"I've been trying to see what sequencers to keep. Obviously the Spectralis stays, but I kept running into roadblocks with the Cirklon so it was something I needed to write a track with. I did the same with the Squarp Pyramid, but I got stuck working through it. I'm starting to get the hang of the Cirklon though. Although it does often take a few extra button presses to do things I think should be easy, I've figured out other ways to do what I want too. I'll try again with the Pyramid, but most likely that one will be going away.

Sequentix Cirklon 2 - sequencing
Moog Minimoog - bass
DSI Prophet 12 - bell/synth tone
Kawai SX-240 - pads

Sequentix Cirklon Sequencing Roland TB303 with Devil Fish Mod

Published on May 30, 2017 Meta Function

"In this video, Meta Function demonstrate sequencing a Roland TB303 with the Devil Fish mod via the Sequentix Cirklon.

The Cirklon is arguably the most intuitive and sturdy hardware sequencer ever made. It features five ports of MIDI I/O, four virtual USB ports and via the CVIO beak out box (BOB), sixteen CV and eight gate outputs. It has an incredibly tight clock and works great as the center of any electronic music based studio.

In this video the Fish receives note pitch and gate over CV/gate via the BOB. CV out 3 is connected to Accent in the Fish, with CV out 4 connect to Slide in. Inside the P3 pattern driving the Fish, Aux A is routed to CC 1 and Aux B is routed to CC 2, which in turn are routed within the Cirklon's CVIO Config menu to drive CV out 3 and 4 respectively. Whenever Aux A/B is over a value of 64, the measure features an accent/slide. A one bar pattern is created on the fly and slides and accents are added. Pattern direction modes are manipulated then drums from an Elektron Analog Rhytm are edited via a CK track. The one bar P3 Fish pattern is doubled and edited and transpose and force to scales modes are manipulated. Note measures are ganged/unganged and note lengths are tweaked. Finally the timebase is adjusted.

Audio recorded via Calrec S2 console and SSL convertors. All dry, no FX, EQ or compression. The only post production performed was normalization.

Watch at 1080p with good quality audio monitoring for the best experience.

Meta Function developed the Max For Live synthesizer, the Wave Junction in partnership with Sonicstate.com. A four voice paraphonic synth with 2 multi-mode osc, three multi-mode filters, 5 LFOs, 5 Envs and a 12 slot modulation matrix.

You can buy it from Sonicstate right here for £19.95:

Note: Ableton Live 9.6.1 and Max4Live 7.2.2 required."

Crashing down | Moog Minimoog, Sequentix Cirklon, Sequential Prophet 10, DSI Prophet 12, Nord Drum 2

video upload by MIDERA

"I was considering selling the Minimoog. Kept talking to friends about how I just didn't like it. I don't know why, I guess maybe it was like with the Prophet 10, where it's just a lot of money and it doesn't really seem to do anything that much better than what I already have. One of my friends said 'Well, have you tried sequencing it?' And no... I hadn't. I got the Minimoog when one of my cats died, then I rehomed my dog, and then my mom died. The whole next year (2024) I spent scanning photos in of my parent's. Only now have I started to get back into things. Well, I decided to try it out and wow, I really enjoyed it - the Minimoog sounds pretty amazing. So this is my first track with it sequenced.

I'm also working on trying to get more proficient with the Cirklon, and I've gotten a little hold on using it.

Parts:
Moog Minimoog: Bass
DSI Prophet 12: Bells
Sequential Prophet 10: Pads
Clavia Nord Drum 2: Drums
Sequentix Cirklon: Sequencing
Native Instruments Raum: Reverb"

Sequentix Cirklon

via Sequentix
"Cirklon is a totally new hardware sequencer design, with software based on the P3, but greatly improved both in usability and internal operation.

The user-interface is based around a 240x64 pixel graphic LED display, 19 rotary encoders with push-switches, 2 assignable knobs, 35 high-quality Cherry keys with integrated LEDs, and a further 35 tri-colour status LEDs.

Cirklon has 16 tracks, with 5 independent MIDI INs and OUTs to connect a large number of controllers and synths/sound modules while keeping MIDI latency to a minimum.
There will also be USB MIDI, native CV/gate support, and a dedicated DIN sync output.

The 32-bit, 72MHz ARM Cortex CPU runs a proprietary sequencer engine to ensure optimum timing accuracy.
All MIDI ports are provided by hardware serial ports in the CPU core itself.
The CV/gate connectivity will be available in two levels - a pair of 12-bit resolution CV and gate outputs, or an external CV breakout box with a large number of CV outs (details to be finalised).

Pattern storage is comprised of 2MB battery-backed internal RAM and 512MB internal NAND flash, with a SD/MMC card socket for data backup.

Cirklon will go into production just as soon as we have finalised the design of the production enclosure.
We hope to start shipping in low volume in March.

Price is expected to be under 1000 ukp.

Obviously this one is not in a final enclosure..."

DSI Prophet 08 soundscape - Move into the vacancy of tomorrow

video upload by MIDERA

"Well - As much as I loved the Prophet 08, I have sold it. I was planning to buy the Sequentix Cirklon and sold a bunch of stuff (however, no one from Sequentix or Rubadub, who sells it to folks in the US, will reply to my messages, and I find that a really tough pill to swallow to spend $2800 and have no replies - so I'm not sure I will buy one).

Anyway, I find it fascinating that I didn't like the Prophet 10 at first, but now I love it. I loved the Prophet 08 at first, but now... I decided to sell it. Like - I think it was great and all, but I feel like the P10 has it beat, just always so majestic. So... it doesn't really seem to fit in my studio anymore.
