ALAN R. PEARLMAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY OF ARP SYNTHESIZER FOUNDER, ALAN R. PEARLMAN

Press release follows:

ALAN R. PEARLMAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY OF ARP SYNTHESIZER FOUNDER, ALAN R. PEARLMAN, JUNE 7 AT THE MUSEUM OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

Kingston, NY - May 20, 2025 - This year marks the 100th birthday of the late inventor of the ARP synthesizer, Alan R. Pearlman. In honor of his pioneering innovations in electronic music, the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation will launch ARP@100: A Centennial Celebration of Alan R. Pearlman’s Legacy with EMEAPP at the Museum of Music Technology. A gala event kicks off a year’s worth of commemorative ARP centennial activities and takes place at EMEAPP, located in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, from 7 -10 pm.

June 7th Centennial activities at the museum include:

A live interview with the ARP Foundation’s director, Dina Pearlman-Ifil

Video excerpts from musicians, former ARP employees, and filmmaker Alex Ball’s celebrated ARP films

Performances on vintage ARP instruments by music pioneer Don Slepian and modular synthesist Ombient

The ability to try out a variety of synths

EMEAPP will unveil, at its Museum of Music Technology, a haven of vintage ARP history in which visitors will encounter an epic collection of ARP synthesizers, including the majestic ARP 2500 and a rare, early ARP 2502 with a cherry drop matrix. The iconic ARP 2600 Blue Meanie will be proudly displayed alongside an array of other ARP classics: the versatile Quadra, the expressive Soloist series, multiple iterations of the legendary Odyssey, the innovative Avatar, the powerful Chroma, the punchy Axxe, the compact Little Brother, and even a remarkable 16-Voice Electronic Piano – many of which will be playable!

Countless composers, musicians, and filmmakers worldwide have incorporated the ARP 2500 and ARP 2600 into their work, including early adopters Pete Townsend (in the “Who’s Next” album) and Elton John (in “Funeral for a Friend”). Stevie Wonder, an early adopter of the 2600, had his control panels labeled in Braille. The ARP 2600 was also responsible for the voice of R2-D2 in Star Wars films, and the 2500 was used to communicate with aliens in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Alan R. Pearlman’s legacy as an engineer and inventor began at an early age. A fascination with sound occupied his interest, and he spent time as a child building amateur radios. In 1948, as a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, he wrote, “The electronic instrument’s value is chiefly as a novelty. With greater attention on the part of the engineer to the needs of the musician, the day may not be too remote when the electronic instrument may take its place as a versatile, powerful, and expressive instrument.”

Attendees may reserve a spot at this exclusive celebration and fundraising event with a tax-deductible donation of $150 per ticket. The contribution includes complimentary wine/beer/other beverages, a selection of snacks, and a swag bag. Parking is Free.

The Museum of Music Technology/EMEAPP is located at 45 Mainland Road, Harleysville, PA 19438, just a short drive from the PA Turnpike Lansdale exits."

"Alvin The Unique" Custom ARP Avatar

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this Reverb listing

Note the listing has ended. Saving the pics and details for posterity.

"This is an ARP Avatar that has been modified. The plaque mounted on the console says 'Alvin the Unique, Custom Built for George Choksy by Jim Chandler of Chattanooga--1982'. The estate we purchased it from was the Choksy estate.

We have ran signal through the synth and were able to get various sounds from it. It does need some cleaning and some care. We weren't able to fully test all functions, due to us simply not knowing exactly what to test for. But it does produce signal and the guitar did trigger various effects.

The modules that are outlined in blue are the modifications. I've included pictures of the inside of the console to show the quality of the modifications. We did not pass signal through any of these modules, as they appear to need to be patched together like a traditional synth.

This item includes the original owner's manual, five(5) ARP foot pedals, an AC cable, and the flight case. The hex pickup is not included.

The flight case does have a smoky odor to it. The sliders on the synth are all functional, but most are missing the grip. One of the sliders, the HPF Cutoff Frequency, is broken off flush to the top of the console. It does, however, still slide and function."

And the Moog Sonic Six via this listing

"Beautiful 50 year old Moog that can do things no other Moog can do. It's the only Duophonic Moog! You can set one osc as low note and one to high note for duophonic playing, set it as a mono synth, or even change the scaling of the high osc for microtonal playing. This Moog has the same oscillators and filter as the Minimoog Model D but instead of the Mini's third osc that doubles as it's only lfo, the S6 has TWO dedicated LFOs that can have separate wave shapes and rates and can be modulated by the eg! Modulation craziness. This Moog also has TWO amps! One signal goes through the filter, as usual, but there is a second amp that bipasses the filter. This means you can have a high resonance sweeping filter sound going (which kills all low end on every Moog) but you can beef it back up with the dry out amp. I've had most Moogs and think this is by far the best and most powerful Moog. I passed on a Minimoog for only 3k years ago and sold my Multimoog when I got my first S6. Everything works. Tuning and scaling was just adjusted and it's working great. I barely play it and have some studio changes in mind so it's on the chopping block. Sold as-is. No returns and I am not responsible for any guts getting shaken during shipping. It's 50 years old and it's in excellent shape for that age. Tuning and calibration info can be found online if you need it after shipping. Also considering selling the Polymoog 203a seen in the photos which is also fully functional and includes the rare Polypedals. A little demo video of the two can be seen in the link. The S6 tune drift in the video is actually a slow LFO and not just drifting. Also the video was done before I tweaked the scaling pots inside."

1977 ARP Avatar

See The Infamous ARP Avatar

"This is the ARP AVATAR. It is basically a Arp Odessy without a keyboard controller. It was intended to be used with the guitar MIDI controller pickup that I no longer have. my tech tells me that the Roland midi guitars or a Roland-style or any hex pickup will work. I used this with a Kenton box (midi to cv converter) which turned it into a tabletop synth module. I just had all the sliders replaced and it's pretty satisfying to play with.

It is from 1977 so it's not brand new. I just sent it to my tech to make sure it's all working and we decided to change all the sliders out. When I bought this 15 years ago it came in a road case that was deteriorated and left marks on the wood panels on the sides as seen in the pics. I did clean them up a little. If you are someone who is handy I am sure you could clean these up to look like new if you are inspired to do so."

Introducing Gradient: A modular-powered synth for Kontakt Player

video upload by Constructs Of Time

Constructs Of Time introduces Gradient.

A modular-powered polyphonic synthesizer for Native Instruments' Kontakt Player.

More info at: http://www.constructsoftime.com"

"Constructs of Time introduces Gradient, a polyphonic synthesizer for Kontakt Player that captures the raw and organic sound of analogue.

A Eurorack modular system and a modified Arp Avatar are deeply multi-sampled to create powerful mono and wide stereo sound sources.

Think tube-saturated sine waves, chorused saw waves, noisy pulse width modulation and powerful ring modulation.

Gradient’s filters, modulation sources and effects further shape the sound.

The clean and minimal interface makes sound design fast and intuitive. All controls are carefully selected and calibrated, resulting in a big sweet spot.

Gradient comes with 190+ production-ready presets, covering from cinematic pads to deep basses and punchy stabs.

NKS compatibility provides a seamless hardware experience. The controls are tailored to each preset for an optimal hands-on feel.

Key features:

Works with Native Instruments’ free Kontakt Player
NKS compatible
190+ production-ready presets
2 oscillators (83 waves) & 1 noise generator (21 waves)
3 panning modes (alternate, key tracking, random)
Lowpass and highpass filters
4 shapers (overdrive, grit, crush, tape)
2 envelopes & 2 syncable LFOs with multiple destinations
Delay & reverb"

Pic of the inside.

"In proper fully working order all around. Fat rich wild & crazy sounds abound for endless exploration and creative real time variations. Basically an odyssey in module format, sounds way fatter and richer than any korg or behr clone. CV ins+outs etc. Was used with kenton pro solo midi to cv and/or arturia keystep to great effect. Has typical wear/marks being 45yrs old. Bigger & heavier than an odyssey...all solid steel case, no plastic or aluminum like ody's."

1977 ARP Avatar

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

"This is a really cool and very rare synth. It's an ARP Avatar, which has been converted from its original guitar-synth form to basically be an Odyssey without keys (but with the addition of a very cool fuzz mode!). It sounds absolutely amazing, and is a very unusual instrument. It's controlled via CV. I'll throw in an Arturia Beatstep and some cables to get you started."

Behringer Considers ARP Avatar w/ Vocal Tracking for $499

Another from Behringer.

"We recently asked you, if you’re interested in a revival of the lovely ARP Avatar, which was designed as a guitar synthesizer.

We have since created a draft that replaces the hex guitar input with a high-speed and super accurate audio to CV converter, which not only allows you to perfectly track your guitar signal, but also any other instrument. We also included a mic input for great vocal tracking.

What would be your level of interest for such a synth? What other changes would you like to see?

We believe we could achieve a price of US$ 499 retail.

Please remember that this is only a proposal for now and we have not decided to pursue this project."

"I believe I am up to 54 synths purchased and 34 sold in the last year. I keep saying I'm done but......

- All sound demo segments are played with absolutely no plans for the patches I am going to use or what I am going to play. I'm just winging it. Obviously.

- All audio is recorded dry, straight from the synths. Any effects you hear are internal effects built into that synth.

- All synths and everything else were purchased at regular prices. I have never been given a demo model or even loaned something by any company. I bought all this stuff.

- No, I'm not rich. The buying spree started with selling some synths I already had. Then when I wanted more stuff, I sold off more collectibles I already owned. The synths I decided not to keep then funded more synth purchases. I run a record label by myself and also work a full-time normal job. I worked my ass off for all this stuff.

- Yes, I know I have the Imovie skills of the average 8-year-old. I've never even owned a smart phone.

- This project has been really fun and taught me that the most sought after "classics" are not automatically for everyone. It also taught me that youtube synth demos and comparisons are not the final word. Nothing beats sitting down with an instrument and playing it.

Check out https://secretrecords.bandcamp.com for releases by The Residents, Chrome, Norman Westberg (Swans), etc plus my own Zebras, Logan 5, and VP solo ambient music projects.
