Elastic OSC Is Finally Coming to Desktop — Mac & Windows on May 6
video uploads by Elastic Instruments
Playlist:
1. Elastic OSC Is Finally Coming to Desktop — Mac & Windows
2. Elastic OSC Is Finally on Desktop — Now available for Mac & Windows
3. Elastic OSC Desktop — Preset Showcase & Sound Demo
For those attending Superbooth, they will be in booth Z380.
"Elastic OSC, a Plaits-based macro-oscillator synthesizer, is finally coming to desktop. It’s one of the few synths available across all major platforms: macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
Elastic OSC is an 8-voice polyphonic macro-oscillator synthesizer based on the open-source code of Mutable Instruments Plaits. Its core idea is simple: powerful sound design reduced to just four main parameters - Frequency, Harmonics, Morph, and Timbre. These parameters shape the sound across all 24 oscillator models, allowing for dramatic changes with minimal effort."

Elastic OSC iOS MPE Update & Android Release
video upload by Elastic Instruments (Oliver Greschke)
"Elastic OSC 1.3 adds long-awaited MPE support to iOS.
Unlock expressive control and shape sounds with polyphonic aftertouch and per-note gestures.
Map Glide (X), Slide (Y), and Pressure (Z) to synthesis parameters and control them with external MPE controllers or the built-in keyboard (X and Y). As with any MPE instrument, all gestures work polyphonically, meaning each note can control parameters independently — for example different gains or timbres depending on the pressure applied to each key.
The Android version offers the same features as iOS — just at a much lower price!!
The update comes with more than 100 new presets by @JakobHaq , @redskylullaby , Nerk and others — lots to explore!

Elastic OSC iOS App Release Video
video upload by Oliver Greschke
"Elastic OSC is a synthesizer app based on the DSP code of the Mutable Instruments Plaits hardware oscillator module, one of the most beloved (and cloned) oscillator module in the Eurorack modular scene!
While Plaits is monophonic, Elastic OSC can also be used in 8-voice polyphonic mode. This means you can use it either as a sophisticated, experimental monophonic sound source — like the original — or as a regular polyphonic keyboard with a wide variety of great sounds. Of course, you can also combine both approaches!
Elastic OSC is designed for playability and simplicity – similar to the Plaits hardware, which has 4 Main Knobs for all essential Synth Parameters. Elastic OSC is essentially a one-screen app with no menu diving. It features two XY pads for intuitive sound manipulation of the OSC engine and the effects. Despite the simplicity of the clean interface, the sound possibilities are vast. Under the surface you’ll find 24 different oscillator models and the ability to automate parameter changes, as it is possible in all Elastic apps.

The Grainmakers Playlist
video uploads by Cinematic Laboratory
"This playlist features granular eurorack modules that all need to process the same reference sample. I hope this gives a good impression of what the modules can do for you. They're all different, they're all great."
Playlist:
1. Grainmakers Playlist Introduction
I've been working on a huge video over the last few days and when I reached 30 minutes I decided to break it up into a playlist. This is cool! I can make updates and add new modules as they emerge. It's not supposed to be the ultimate grain guide, but it's cool to hear all modules chew on the same sample and hear what comes out. It's easy to be impressed by a bad module with a great soundsource, or underwhelmed by an amazing module that need to process something unworthy of its grains. So it all comes down to what they have to offer. And there are no bad modules. It's great fun to hear how a standard concept can turn into completely different experiences. So this is just a short playlist introduction.2. Mutable Instruments Beads | Grainmakers Playlist
In this episode, Beads needs to chew on a reference performance.3. Qu-Bit Nebulae V2 | Grainmakers Playlist
Beads is an effect, but it can process an internal wavetable synth on its own.
Our next contender in the playlist is the Qu-Bit Nebulae. It may be a bit underappreciated, but wow. A unique feature is elastic audio for time stretching.4. Qu-Bit Mojave | Grainmakers Playlist
Next, Mojave needs to chew on Sebastian Lexer's grand piano.5. Loopers | Lubadh & Morphagene | Grainmakers Playlist
Loopers are often confused with granular synths, especially with the Morphagene. Loopers don't grain or spray, they're digital tape machines.6. 1010Music BitBox MK2 | Grainmakers Playlist
Sometimes, when you think you're into grains, you'd actually been looking for a looper. It's time to show the difference, so they're an important addition to the lineup.
The BitBox may not seem an obvious choice for granular processing, but if this playlist were a competition, then BitBox MK2 would be the King of the Grainfields. Granular processing offers limited CV support in the current firmware, but the sheer processing power is almost an insult to the other modules. Fortunately, it can't offer the hands-on experience like dedicated modules.7. Error Instruments x TINRS Brinta | Grainmakers Playlist
8. Melotus Versio | Grainmakers Playlist
It's a Versio. What can I say. Awkward, special, amazing and breathtaking. It's unique feature is no pitch control. While this sounds like a flaw, it's almost a musthave feature when you run notes, effects and chords through it. Don't touch the melody. Just make it grain. Top 3 module in my list. And if it doesn't fit your needs, install a different firmware! If you own a different Versio, give it a shot. Nothing creates techno atmospheres and backdrops like Melotus.9. MISO Cornflakes | Grainmakers Playlist
This is the last one for today :). Still a few more modules to cover, but it's already a great list. Here's MISO Cornflakes chewing on the Lexer piano. Again, it's a totally different experience, because Cornflakes adds special harmonizing features and stacking of grains. No other module has it - as far as I know. It can make wonderful new sounds from something familiar.10. Instruo Arbhar V2 | Grainmakers Playlist
I already made plenty of Arbhar videos, but this is the second V2 video. In this playlist, all granular modules in my collection need to process the same audio file so it's easy to figure out what they do. Now it's Arbhar's turn.11. Clouds & Clones | Grainmaker Playlist
This playlist would not be complete without a tribute to Clouds, one of the first modules in Eurorack that brought grains to the case. Clouds was launched in 2015 and discontinued in 2017. But that wasn't the end of it. It's been revived and extended in many forms, making it one of the most successful modules in Eurorack even today. From a techical perspective, Clouds is no match for the modern grainmakers in this playlist. But from the perspective of production value it's still a super useful module, especially if you manage to install the Parasite firmware. It's easy to forget that granular synthesis doesn't need big buffers. Sometimes a small 1 sec buffer is exactly what you need to get that desirable classic granular stream.12. Combinations | Grainmaker Playlist
I got a question if Lubadh and Mojave would make a good combo. I had no idea. I figured this whole playlist is still 1-dimensional. So I patched these two up and then and I just had to make this video! I am still using the reference track so you get a good idea of how big the sonic playground becomes when you combine any looper with any granular engine. Results may vary, but wow. The bottom of the Rabbit Hole simply has a doorway to the next one. And it always gets deeper than the one before.13. ADDAC 112 | Grainmakers Playlist
I may have unintentionally kept the best for last. The 112 combines a looper and granular engine in one big module. This is the last entry in the playlist.14. I missed a few | Grainmakers Playlist
The 112 will return soon for a dedicated video with some carefully selected samples to play with.
After finishing the 112 video I was confident I covered enough 'grainmakers' in this playlist. I doublechecked if Disting EX and Phonogene should be in it, but no. The third one definitely needs to be on it! It doesn't show up when you search for 'granular' on ModularGrid, but it immediately went to my personal top #2.

Qu-Bit Nebulae v2 Press Release & Pics
You can find previous posts featuring demos of the Qu-Bit Electronix Nebulae V2 here.
"Nebulae is a granular sampler and DSP platform. Its phase vocoder audio engine provides elastic audio, which can be time stretched, granularized, and mangled to no end. With independent control over pitch and speed, and granular controls such as overlap, window, and density, finding new sonic territory is only a knob turn away. Nebulae can use live audio input, a recorded buffer, or audio files as the source material for its powerful audio manipulations. The live input buffer can record up to five minutes of stereo audio at 48kHz, 24 bit. In addition, up to 75 MB of stereo audio can be loaded simultaneously through the USB port. No naming convention or special formatting necessary; just plug and play.
Nebulae lives a double life as an open source DSP platform with an extensive library of off the shelf alternate instruments. You can turn the module into a lush reverb, spectral delay, or tape-style looper simply by loading a new file onto the flash drive. Do you want to tweak one aspect of an existing instrument, even the default functionality? No problem. No prior coding knowledge is necessary to tweak and refine existing firmware to your liking or start with one of our templates. Alternate firmware files can be written with Pure Data, Csound, SuperCollider, and even bare-bones C programs.
- Granular sampler with time stretching capabilities
- 5 minute stereo recording buffer at 48kHz, 24 bit (In addition to file playback buffer)
- No naming convention or special formatting necessary for file playback

FM EXPLORATIONS AND MICROTONAL DRONES FROM NYZ (AKA DAVE NOYZE, DAVID BURRASTON, NOYZELAB, BRYEN TELKO)
This is the first release by NYZ and is a superb musical collection of research areas classified to internal Noyzelab operations. Not even .MEDS label were informed of the secret processes underlying its creation, excepting that we know it involved Frequency Modulation (FM) synthesis! We have not been given any information regarding when this work was recorded, but we suspect the material spans at least a decade of David's FM algorithm research on numerous synthesizers, as well his own custom built ear deceiving gear...
According to one reviewer of David's previous musical output he "gleefully disrupts just about every standard convention of musical form you could think of, including those of so-called experimental musics."
Other reviewers have written that :
"His music is a bizarre, yet compelling journey investigating the outer realms of music generated on ancient & contemporary machines." "It's strikingly original audio that doesn't really sound like anything else I can think of." "Utterly sublime. So there you go, a life-affirming slab of mind-altering sound to reawaken you to the terrifying possibilities of creation."
"absolutely wreaks havoc" wrote Keith Fullerton Whitman on reviewing David's last release T. H. Cycle cassette on Important Records/Cassauna .

The main reasons for making this album were an interest in FM synthesis in both analogue modular and MIDI/digital mediums. I had worked with digital FM synthesis since getting a Yamaha TX81Z when they came out back in 1987 (which I still have, along with another backup machine with a very hummy mains transformer which bleeds onto the outs). How me and another synth friend used to cry with drunken laughter at preset D11 Hole in 1... :) But after initially wondering whether I had just wasted about 350 UK pounds on an utter piece of shit... I quickly warmed to its better presets, and its very different approach to synthesis yielded enough interesting results early on for it not to get outed.

4 iPad's & laptop live jam @ Apple Store Berlin September 2015
Published on Sep 10, 2015 Oliver Greschke
Short clip but very cool to see. Exposure for our world at an Apple store. BTW, anyone looking forward to the iPad Pro? I started with the original iPad excited to use it as a controller and for virtual synths. It works well as a controller and I still use it to this day. It was a little underpowered for synths, especially newer ones. I picked up an iPad Mini Retina which works well for synths, but I'm missing a larger screen. I'm definitely tempted by the Pro, but man, the price...
Video description:
"Live jam from our talk we gave at Apple Store Berlin.
Featuring Elastic Drums, zMors Modular, Studiomux (Midimux&Audiomux), Touchable and Ableton Live on a Laptop.
Elastic Drums and zMors Modular were synced via Midimux to the Laptop, which was the tempo host. zMors Modular went directly into the laptop via Audiomux VST Plugin. 2 other iPads were controlling Ableton DAW and Ableton instruments with Touchable. All connections were made with standard lightning cables, no special soundcards or connectors have been used."

ROLAND ANNOUNCES NEW R-MIX MUSIC SOFTWARE for Mac/PC and iPad

"Los Angeles, CA, September 15, 2011 — Roland is proud to announce R-MIX, a new era in audio processing software, giving recording professionals and those just starting out the tools to visually and intuitively manipulate stereo mix audio easily in real time. Featuring the newly developed proprietary V-Remastering technology and the highly-acclaimed VariPhrase® technology, R-MIX allows you to see the individual components of a stereo mix as color-coded clouds of harmonic matter and to apply effects or center cancel exactly where and as you wish within the mix. R-MIX can also help musicians learn songs by offering focused access to any desired instrument in the mix and the ability to slow down fast or complicated sections.
By graphically breaking down the stereo mix data into three elements (frequency, panning, and level), R-MIX makes it possible to actually see the instruments inside the mix, using the Harmonic Placement. Change the panning and level, erase, extract, and add effects, and independently adjust the pitch and speed of the playback as desired. Lower the level of the vocal or any other instrument within the mix to create minus-one karaoke files or create remixes using two pairs of stereo tracks. Mastering live recording sources is also possible by adjusting the instrument levels and applying noise reduction and effects, and with R-MIX, you can create the highest quality sound and then export your project as an audio file for music player playback.
Since there is only one R-MIX screen to operate, workflow increases, and there is no need to switch screens. Menus are aligned according to the workflow, easing navigation, and a simple help window for each task allows for manual free operation. Windows/Mac compatibility and the intuitive design also makes it accessible to everyone from serious DAW magicians to novice users and easily integrates into education and video production settings.R-MIX Tab, a simplified version of R-MIX, will be available for the Apple iPad later this year. This iPad application also uses the V-Remastering technology to extract audio elements and easily creates minus-one data from an audio file.
• V-Remastering
Roland’s innovative V-Remastering digital signal-processing technology gives you total control over the elements within a stereo audio file. Built into R-MIX, V-Remastering makes it possible for you to see each stereo mix as color-coded clouds of energy and harmonic matter, and easily isolate the individual instruments or elements within the mix and change their panning positions and levels. V-Remastering also gives you the ability to erase, extract, or add effects to each element within a mix. V-Remastering enables music-editing capabilities never possible before!
• VariPhrase
In conjunction with V-Remastering, R-MIX employs Roland’s acclaimed VariPhrase technology, which can make your audio “elastic.” The secret to elastic audio is the independent control of pitch, time, and formant*. Smoothly adjust pitch without changing tempo, for example, or adjust tempo without changing pitch. Audio is elastic, and freely under your control in real time. Even more amazing is that all of this can be done without changing the sound quality of the original recording.
*Formant parameter not available in R-MIX.
R-MIX availability and MSRP details are being determined now. For more information, please visit http://www.RolandConnect.com.
