Soma Lyra-8 Sounds: Dark Ambient Texture Pad FX No Talk Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
"Oblivion Glow is a collection of 50 patches for the analog synthesizer Soma Lyra-8, dedicated to dark, deep, and atmospheric sound.
π Lyra-8 is one of the most unique synthesizers of our time, both in terms of functionality and sonic character. It offers a radically different approach to sound design and performance.
Its true power lies in its dynamics and expressiveness—the instrument, its parameters, and controllers are highly sensitive to settings and playing technique, making its sound incredibly alive and constantly evolving.
π This quality has made Lyra-8 a beloved and almost essential tool for genres like ambient, techno, cinematic, IDM, industrial, and beyond—anywhere a blend of liveliness and innovation is required.
π¦ Get these presets: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/lyra...
π Exploring this instrument was a truly inspiring experience, and in this soundset, I share the results of that journey. My goal was to extract the broadest possible palette of timbres: warm and cold, soft and harsh, harmonic and distorted, modern and vintage, clean and noisy, smooth and rhythmic.
πΉ I also explored different performance techniques, aiming to strike a balance between the experimental and the musical.
π¦ This pack includes drones, pads, textures, leads, FXs, strings, rhythmic patterns, and soundscapes.
π Some patches are designed to take the lead in a track or jam session, while others serve perfectly as supporting layers. While each sound is ready to use as-is, I highly recommend interacting with the controls during performance—modulating parameters in real-time reveals new sonic depths and greatly enhances expressiveness.
π The soundset is presented as a PDF document. Each page contains detailed notes explaining how the patch works, which parameters are key for real-time manipulation, and how to evolve the timbre while playing. Following these suggestions will not only expand your sound palette but also deepen your understanding of the instrument.
π Each patch comes with an audio example to guide you in understanding how it is intended to sound.
πΎ The collection also includes 24/41000 WAV samples. These can be used directly in your projects, or freely resampled, edited, and processed—offering a versatile library of material for further experimentation."

No.1 APEX Eurorack Delays
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"I am not sure if there's an APEX (best of the best) delay in eurorack. If there was, I would never ended up with so many of them. The 'problem' with eurorack is that each manufacturer adds something special. They have to. I guess my 'problem' is the autistic need to make 'one brand' cases instead of a colorful patch blanket. I never fully realized I had so many delays and even though there is no good and bad in euro, I could easily build a subjective top five - in any order - except for number 1. The top spot has been taken for seven years, but is now on the verge of retirement.
I'll be using a stack of Plaits and Rings as a reference sound, so prepare for a 20 minute 'spa'. In the end, there is an APEX delay after all. I'll add chapters later, for now I want you to relax, listen, maybe even do something else, and when you hear something remarkable, check what's playing. Spin FX delays like FX-AID are not included, but mentioned in general because they're not just delays. I also think the karaoke-chip delays (e.g. Bruxa, Lyra-8 FX) are too exotic but APEX in their own field. I also didn't include any analog/BBD delays because I have no experience with them. This is not a competitive review, it's a lab tour.
Please comment if I overlooked a delay that beats everything else, I don't have/know all of them. It's also cool if you'd share your personal favorite!
Cheers,
Robert"

Cinematic Ambient w/ Prophet-10, Lyra-8, OP-1 field, norns shield | Ghost Water 2025-03-31 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created using the @SequentialLLC Prophet-10, @somasynths Lyra-8, norns shield, and @teenageengineering OP-1 field. Layers of electronic sound occasionally reveal melodies.
On the norns shield, I use DRONECASTER to generate a 283 Hz drone, which is fed into the @ChaseBlissAudio MOOD MK II for reverb and stretch effects.
The Lyra-8 produces sounds between drone and noise by pressing its keys and using feedback from the MOD DELAY.
On the OP-1 field, I perform a synth part with the CWO effect applied.
The Prophet-10 plays a sparse synth pad that mixes in noise oscillators."

MultiMods | NUSS Episode 02 | One is enough, but why stop there?
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"The MultiMod is now officially my favorite module of 2025, but the year is still young and spring is in the air. Between you and me, I got a second one because of the audio processing. Yes I know it's a 1 to 8 CV processor but when you speed up an LFO, it becomes sound and when you spread it up, it becomes a cluster. I'll add chapter markers later because it's a long video.
I've been inspired by the works of Allen Strange and Curtis Roads, so you can expect some strange recipes and microsound adventures. It must be a coincidence but MakeNoise also covered gate delays. I'll use the 281t for mixed envelopes triggered by Pams, and the MM will make variations from it. It's great fun to send all kinds of CV to the Morphagene and it's even more fun to use two MM's, one for modulation, and one for sound 'surrealization'. I picked a new word so I will not give the false impression 'it can do audio rate'. It's more like experimental 'abuse' of the 24 bit AD/DA converter that just happens to respond extremely well with any sound source.
In the final scene I'll use a Lyra-8, which is a dream combo because the Lyra-8 is mono and it becomes a stereo Lyra-64 with MM."

DIY Eurorack SH-2 vs Actual Roland SH-2: comparison and patch explorations (no talking)

'By the time I was done with it, I was so involved, I didn't know what to think.'
This long video of explorations feels like a non-verbal documentary that concludes the journey, and is the culmination of my SH-2 Eurorack quest. If you've been following along, you already know that I caved in and bought the real deal. As far as Eurorack goes, my overall impression is that it's pretty doable given what I have, but if you want authenticity, then a more accurate filter clone is needed. Mind you, the G-Storm SH-2 VCF doesn't claim to be a clone, but rather an adaptation. However, since it's missing 25% of the top end, I can't really get close at all on some of these patch explorations. If you want aggressive basses that can be pushed into saturation with more grit than the original, then the G-Storm filter will do that for you without hesitation. The Erica Synths Black VCO2 does a great job of covering the SH-2's VCO1 duties, and the System-500's 540 envelopes can get pretty close, though they can be a bit fiddly and require toggling between the slow and fast modes.
To summarize: This SH-2 will be going with me to my grave. I already know it's THAT good. The only "monosynth" that could ever top it for me is the System-700, which is simply not obtainable, unless there's a raffle, and I win said raffle, which never happens."

Ambient w/ Lyra-8, KORG MS-20, reface DX | Alpine Crescendo 2025-03-02 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"A piece created using the @somasynths Lyra-8, @KORG_INC MS-20, and YAMAHA Reface DX. It's ambient music where a melody and looper sequence melt into a drone.
For the Lyra-8, after some tuning, I set it to HOLD the sound so it resembles chords. Its output is processed with reverb using @gfisys SPECULAR TEMPUS.
The MS-20 is run through @strymon blueSky for reverb, and I occasionally open and close the filter to change its timbre.
The Reface DX loops phrases with its looper while applying filter and reverb via @strymon NIGHTSKY. At the beginning and end of the track, I reduce the dry signal and modulate the filter to blur the sound."

'Modulation' - Ambient Drones with Lyra-8, Digitakt, Big Sky | 59 Perlen
video upload by 59 Perlen
"This is the latest track of my current ambient drone series, created with Soma Lyra-8, Elektron Digitakt and Strymon Big Sky. I wanted to create a mood that sounds different than the usual Lyra stuff and not like a typical drone. I felt like I need something else in my liveset and here we go - Digitakt adds a simple pad sound to the rhythmic pattern of the Lyra. 'Modulation' is also the title track of my upcoming performance."

Monome Norns o-o-o script w/ Soma Lyra-8
video upload by Andre Bregegere
"In this video, I explore the sonic possibilities of the o-o-o ("odashodasho") script, a fun generative sequencer (also boasting its own FM synthesis engine!) for the Monome Norns. I am pairing it with the Lyra-4, a touch-sensitive synthesizer known for its organic, often unpredictable textures and its ability to create complex, evolving drones and tones.
This session was fully improvised, letting the interaction between the two instruments guiding the performance. it was recorded live and lightly mastered in Pro Tools.

Ambient w/ LYRA-8, OP-1 field, Generation Loss MKII, MICROCOSM | Quantum Grove 2025-01-02 by atnr
video upload by atnr
"This work was created using the @somasynths LYRA-8 and @teenageengineering OP-1 field. The LYRA-8 plays the higher melodies while looping the bassline through @HologramElectronics MICROCOSM. In OP-1 field, a synth loop is played back while performing on the built-in keyboard. The OP-1’s sound is made lo-fi by applying a tape simulation effect through the @ChaseBlissAudio Generation Loss MKII."

Bruxa by MakeNoise & Cortini | It's a GOOD witch.
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"While MakeNoise is focusing on the Resynthesizer, now is the time people are finally receiving their Bruxa. While it inevitably reminds of Strega and the Lyra 8 (FX) I think it's cleaner, more musical and easier to control. However, we can't debate personal taste and the distinct sound of the mono delay may be too lo-fi for some.
I got truly amazing results when I hooked it up with Echophon. What's not to love. I pre-ordered Bruxa when it was announced, and pre-ordered a second one after the Asheville flood. I would not recommend getting two, especially with Echophon nearby, but a dual Bruxa can make some great eerie textures that remind of the mighty Erbe-Verb."

Fripper Tripper (Frippertronics with synths: DSI/Sequential Pro 2, Lyra-8, Boss RE-20, DD-20)
video upload by hypergol
"For Black Friday, I bought myself Boss DD-20 and RE-20 delay pedals specifically for exploring Frippertronics. They showed up yesterday and I promptly recorded my first jam. It starts with a simple 2 oscillator drone from the modular running through a spring reverb tank (1 Eowave Titan and 1 Roland 512 VCO) The melodies consist of different patches that I've made on the Pro 2, which is another recent purchase. A little further along I introduce the Lyra-8 into the mix, because anything experimental should probably include the Lyra. Unfortunately I didn't have its output level up high enough, and you can't really hear it in the repeats, which is a shame. Other than not getting output levels matched ahead of time, I'm pretty pleased with the result. The modular, Pro 2, and Lyra are also running through the Audiothingies Doctor A in parallel, which is set to a long ping pong delay and a very long modulated plate reverb. To add some tape warble, I fed an attenuated LFO from the Roland 540 module into the RE-20's expression pedal input, which adjusts the "twist" parameter. Everything runs through the DD-20 first, which has a delay time of 7.1 seconds and is set to the "modulated" delay type, then from there it runs into the RE-20. I wonder what it would sound like if the signal chain was reversed. I bet one could pull off mellotron strings vibes pretty easily with this setup."
