"LYRA-8 is based on eight generators, which will be referred to as voices. Their design is not like a traditional subtractive synthesis VCO. Instead of having a linear or logarithmic dependency on control voltage, they resemble the tone generators in old electric organs. Hence the use of the term 'voices' instead of 'VCOs'. Lyra uses non-linearity a lot, and the voices are constructed in such a way that allows for non-linearity to express itself."

Ambient | LYRA-8 & Ableton REcho

video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto

"The SOMA LYRA-8 has earned a reputation as one of the most unconventional analog synthesizers ever built. It does not follow the rules of standard pitch, MIDI sequencing, or predictable modulation. Instead, it generates sound through an organic interaction of oscillators, distortion stages, and feedback paths. Every note is less a fixed frequency and more a living event shaped by your touch, voltage instabilities, and the nonlinear behavior of its circuitry.

Subtle Expressions: Squarp Instruments Hapax Performance

video upload by MKustomAudio

"With recently obtaining the Squarp Instruments Hapax to act as my main standalone sequencer, I've been diving deep into all the functions it offers. This is the first track I've made putting together a number of items such as automation, assign controls, creative MIDI effects (register, arpoly, etc.), BPM elasticity, and adjustable start/stop loop lengths. I've added notes in the video explaining some key points for the track and additional equipment used, but below is a more detailed list of the sound sources:

Korg Arp 2600 M
Novation Peak
Novation Bass Station II
Korg Opsix
Sequential OB-6 Desktop
Elektron Digitakt II
Befaco Oneiroi
Soma Lyra-8, Erica Synths Black 3109 VCF/VCA, Qu-Bit Mojave
Make Noise STO + Schlappi Engineering Angle Grinder, Make Noise QPAS, Intellijel Sealegs
Moog Mother 32, Ritual Electronics Miasma (Erica Synths Black Polivoks VCF in feedback loop), Erica Synths Blackhole DSP2"

Overspraak Soundscape

video upload by Conatus Modulari

"Soma Lyra 8 x OPXY

Lyra always has been a great sample source, and I really like the immediacy and playability of the OPXY.

Sculpting samples as I record, experimenting with slowing them down as I play create rich, stretched out textures. All harmonic content is being pulled apart and opens up a whole new world.

Sequencing modulation and effects on the OPXY add movement. Soma Warp was used to add some more movement at the end of chain.

Let me know if you liked it!"

DUB PLEX | Make Noise

video upload by MAKEN0ISE

"A subterranean Plexiphon patch.

Plus a visual score by Bruce Magill, realized sonically by Norman Freund!

More info about Norman's performance below:

SoundCloud: / landscape-graphic-score
BandCamp: https://normanfreund.bandcamp.com/tra...

Description:
Late 2025 Walker Farrell from MakeNoise started an international music challenge for musicians to participate in, submit your own Graphic Score, then at the draw of a hat, you would be assigned someone else's score to interpret and create music from. I am always interested in music challenges and the more off-beat the better.

Late December 2025 names were drawn at random, Walker constructed a collection of MakeNoise modular synthesis cards to generate random numbers to set who gets what score. I was allocated a topographical map from Bruce Magill that contained some text notes and penciled in graphics. Bruce had a musical concept in mind for this score but did say "Notes for this graphic score are only a suggestion. You can disregard them and interpret this score in any way you like, if you wish. ... Don't overthink." So I did have free reign to interpret the score as I wished, so I could let my imagination run wild. In my younger years I did a lot of wilderness hiking so was and still am, quite familiar with topographic maps, so for me this was the perfect score, something I could relate to and understood. As a side note, there is no right answer for interpreting a graphic score, so understanding is not an essential ingredient, however a vivid imagination is. It is a bit like laying on the grass and looking up at the clouds -- what do you see beyond back scattered light from suspended vapours in the sky.

"This Pulsar is in great working order with its original gig bag, power supply and alligator clips.

PULSAR-23 is an organismic drum machine designed by Vlad Kreimer. It has a semi-modular structure and consists of 23 independent modules. PULSAR can be used for the synthesis of percussion instruments and rhythms, bass and melodic lines, effects and sound landscapes, as well as a source of control voltage and powerful analog FX processor. The PULSAR functions in three different modes: stand-alone, MIDI control and CV control. Moreover, all the above features and control modes can work simultaneously in any proportion or combination.Additionally, PULSAR offers live circuit bending capabilities and the use of the artist’s body conductivity to create patches and cross modulations. PULSAR continues the line of organismic synthesizers begun by LYRA-8, but now in the area of percussion instruments."

So this happened… Pulsar 23 + Pulsar 23

video upload by Conatus Modulari

"Not what I expected nor intended, but somehow this 80ish jam happened… There's some good sounds going on, though slightly out of my comfort zone here. Uploaded it because it's all because I like playing around, next time will be a bit darker (or will it… ?).

I definitely need to dive into this Pulsar 46 thing on my desk."

And a massive playlist starting with the above at the time of this post. Use the player controls to skip around.

LYRA-8 Ambient • It will sing if you let it

video upload by Nate Connelly Music

"Soma Labs LYRA-8 Organismic Synthesizer

Track title: Morning Spaces

I've been playing with the LYRA-8 again after some time. Well known for it's intense sound design and noise capabilites, one of my favourite ways to use it is by taking the time to delicately tune each oscillator by ear, and then see how certain phrases and melodies emerge out from the ether.

Equipment used:
• Lyra-8
• Strymon BigSky
• SPL Goldmike Pre-Amp
• ART Pro VLAII Compressor

Recorded into Cubase with minimal post EQ processing.

Thanks for listening.
