Hans Zimmer Next Level Giorgio III Monumental 5U Modular System

Hans Zimmer 2025 - Batman Dark Knight - Opening - Cologne / Köln - Next Level Live

video upload by C3|Nik

Pics and details below. First the video description:

"Some thoughts regarding the "Hans Zimmer - The Next Level" concert:

Amazing! Amazing! AMAZING!

I went to all shows of Hans Zimmer, some I've seen even multiple times. The sound quality of "Next Level" blew them all out of the water. It was louder, it was more intense, really top notch sound engineering. That part at 5:50 in the video was extremely intense, I have never experienced that kind of bass before. I sat close to the front, there was a line of subwoofers right in front of me, I would not be surprised if that part causes some anxiety for people, that's how intense it was.

Some pieces were re-arranged which was an interesting touch, it added a nice new dimension to it.

I can recommend it. It is expensive but a one-of-a-kind experience in my opinion."

Update: SynTesla video below added.

GIORGIO III, Hans Zimmer's monumental synthesiser manufactured by SynTesla

video upload by SynTesla

"SynTesla is the manufacturer of the gigantic GIORGIO III modular synthesiser commissioned by Hans Zimmer for his world tour 'Hans Zimmer Live The Next Level'. Discover the unboxing and assembly of this fabulous instrument."

This one is in via John L Rice.

via pidjyman on Mod Wiggler:

"The Giorgio III is a monumental 5U Modular synthesiser created by SynTesla (Pierre-Jean Tardiveau, aka pidjyman on MW) for composer Hans Zimmer for his world tour.

This synthesizer is undoubtedly the largest modular synth in the world, consisting of 12 cabinets measuring 5 x 5U + 1 x 3U in height. Only 10 cabinets are installed on stage, with two others serving as back-up behind the scenes.

This monster represents 10 months of hard work in total. 23 types of modules were designed and produced in large numbers. To give you an example, the synth is composed of 3 separate units of 4 voices each, for a total of 12 voices, with 2 VCOs, 2 DCOS, 2 filters, 6 DADSRs, 6 VCAs, 1 resonator, 4 LFOs, buffered multis, logic, attenuators, attenuverter, mixers, wavefolders, gate delays, summing mixers, etc. etc...

The modules were manufactured in France by Syntesla and designed by Yusynth and SynTesla. They were assembled in Los Angeles at Hans Zimmer's studios and then shipped to Germany for final assembly on the tour stage.

When the synth arrived in Oberhausen, Hans Zimmer had never seen it before (he was rehearsing in London while it was being assembled in LA), and I can promise you that his smile in the photo is not fake (neither is mine).

The electrical part of the cabinets was also designed and built by SynTesla. It includes an oversized power supply with a capacity of 10 amps, an active filter that provides perfectly stable and clean voltage, and a power distribution board in SynTesla and DotCom format, as well as an integrated voltmeter and ammeter. The whole system has several levels of safety.

This made it possible to connect each cabinet to a solid-state relay socket controlled by DMX from the lighting console. The robustness of the device allows the whole or part of the system to be switched on and off in sequence, depending on the pieces being played on stage."

Remembering Gert Jalass of MOON MODULAR

John L Rice wrote in to let us know today is the late Gert Jalass' birthday. I met Gert a few times at NAMM, and John would often man the Moon Modular Booth. Gert was a great, kind soul. I miss his smile; I miss his presence.

John mentioned the Moon Modular website has had a few updates since his passing. The About and History pages are worth a look.

Behringer 2-XM Patches: Vintage Bass, Lead, Pluck Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Analog Classics is a collection of 50 Patches for the semi-modular synthesizer Behringer Model 2-XM. The collection features 50 Patches, including 20 leads, 15 basses, and 15 plucks.

💾 This soundset offers iconic sounds found in many electronic tracks, ranging from vintage to modern styles. It includes musical solo timbres, plucks, and basses that can easily fit into any track or live performance.
Plucks are excellent for use with arpeggiators or sequencers. You may integrate your preferred arpeggiators or sequencers from your DAW or MIDI controllers.

📦 Get these patches: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/2-xm...

🎨 The presets cover a wide sonic palette, including warm, noisy, detuned, distorted, as well as soft, clean, punchy, dark, bright, deep, and airy tones.

🥁 These presets are versatile and suitable for a wide range of genres, including ambient, electronica, IDM, deep techno, house, progressive, trance, lounge, downtempo, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, breaks, synthwave, retrowave, dub, and more.

📚 The soundset is provided as a PDF document, with each page containing detailed notes that explain how each patch works, which parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to evolve the timbre during a performance. By following these notes and making adjustments consciously, you’ll not only get the most out of the patches but also gain a deeper understanding of the synth itself, uncovering its full potential and creative depth.

🎧 Each patch comes with an audio example to help you understand how the timbre is intended to sound, making it easier to integrate into your productions.

💡 I added pads and drum loops to the video demo to place the presets in a musical context.
These drums and pads are not included in the soundset."

RIP Gert Jalass of Moon Modular

Some sad news sent my way via John L Rice who helped man the Moon Modular booth at NAMM every year. Gert Jalass, the man behind Moon Modular has passed away. I met Gert serveral times at NAMM and he was always a pleasure to talk to. He always welcomed me with a smile. He was genuinely passionate about synthesisers and the synth community. I haven't been able to make events lately and was looking forward to seeing him again. I'm so saddened that I won't be able to. I am sincerely going to miss him.

You can find posts featuring Gert here, and of course posts featuring Moon Modular here.

Elektron Model Cycles / MELODIC TECHNO / by G I P N O Z E R

video upload by G I P N O Z E R

"Making electronic music is an amazing feeling! This is not only a great way to express yourself creatively, but also to make others happy. Working on a track and turning it into something more than just music that can be shared with the whole world is a unique experience. It's so nice to be able to translate your ideas into sound, and then hear the reaction of people who say how much they liked it. Electronic music can be an incredibly powerful way to communicate with people and make them smile.
Good luck to everyone.

Serge 5u Tones and Timbres

video upload by Rhythmicons

"These are 5u Serge circuits by Ken Stone/Catgirl Synth and Elby designs, assembled and paneled by by Lower West Side studios. The Dual Universal Slope Generators are the sound sources going into the STG Soundlabs mixer before heading into the Resonant EQ and '73 Filter. From there the signal is going to a Roland RE-301 Chorus Echo, a Roland DC-50, and an AKG BX-10. With this program I tried to capture what it is like to try to maintain a smile while feeling awful inside. I began with the desire to create something beautiful with the Serge, but the pull towards the experimental is sometimes far too great to resist."

New Casio Watch Inspired by John Mayer's Childhood Keyboard

video upload by Hodinkee

"The G-SHOCK Ref. 6900-PT1 By John Mayer features a dusty matte blue case and strap, a more playful color combination that’s an excellent companion to the first two collaborations. Peach, coral, and turquoise from the PT-1 keyboard were brought in to highlight the 'Triple Graph' display, which sits right at home in the soft cream dial. Darker grey was pulled from the sharp and flat keys of the PT-1 keyboard and added to the illuminator button. All four indicators for the buttons share the navy color from the writing on the PT-1, a perfect accent on the lighter blue background. The G-Shock Ref. 6900-PT1 By John Mayer gives you both the toughness you expect from a G-SHOCK with a colorway that will make your inner creative child smile."

"Being musicians and music fans, we here at Reverb know John Mayer for his guitar-playing and his best-selling signature Silver Sky. But he's also deeply invested in a whole other type of gear: watches.

Mayer, the horologist, is as much a figure to fellow watch lovers as he is to Boss BD-2 enthusiasts, sitting down for multiple interviews about his extensive collection and even getting into the watch design game himself.

In recent years, he's collaborated with the premiere watch site Hodinkee and a brand that, like Mayer, straddles the world of music gear and watches: Casio.

The partnership's latest creation is the Casio G-Shock Ref. 6900-PT1, a digital watch inspired by the PT-1 Mini Synthesizer.

Casio first built the PT-1 synth in 1982 and continued production until 1988, meaning it was one of the many affordable synths and samplers the company released during Mayer's early childhood.

The toy-like PT-1 is a monosynth — meaning it can only play one note at a time—but it packs in more features than parents probably expected. While there are just four simple tones (piano, violin, flute, and the mysterious 'fantasy'), there's a built-in drum machine with the same spread of rhythms you'd find on an old Roland or Korg, and—pretty amazingly, especially to a kid—a sequencer.

To really seal the deal for 'home keyboard' playing, it can run on four double-AA batteries, has its own speaker, and a headphone output.

John Mayer's new G-Shock takes cues from his own childhood PT-1, with its blue enclosure, though you can also find the synth in white, pink, black, and red."

Sequential Prophet 5 Rev3.2 Owned By Dwayne Goettel Of SKINNY PUPPY

Note: links to listings are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

You might remember the recent break-in at Malekko Heavy Industries posted here, and on Malekko.

Joshua Holley is selling his Sequential Prophet-5 Rev3.2 previously owned by the late Dwayne Goettel of Skinny Puppy to recoup funds.

From the lising:

"Ugh, this suuucks...but here we go.

Up for sale is Dwaynes old P5 Rev 3.2 (no MIDI)

I purchased this a while back non functioning and restored it back to playing condition. I left the keyboard chassis and keys with black spots from touring back in the day so it's super cool to see. The keys aren't perfectly level..for some reason I decided to keep it as close to original as possible...just functioning perfectly. cEvin signed it and dated 2003..its still there and puts a smile on my face when I play it. The only reason I'd consider selling this is due to a theft at my shop..there will be lots if instruments up for sale. Read about it in the link below."

Theft at Malekko Heavy Industry

Joshua Holley of Malekko Heavy Industry wrote in to let us know there was a break-in at his shop. The thief stole about $65,000 worth of personal items. The insurance company won't cover most of it, so he is offering modular art pieces for sale to hopefully recoup some of his losses.

The following is a repost from his site. Please share this with others.

"On August 7th 2022 two males broke into an adjacent business in my building and managed to make their way into my shop via a shared back door. The thieves stole many personal items, sentimental gifts from colleagues, friends, things I will never see again, about $65,000.00 worth of personal items stolen. After almost 2 months dealing with Insurance companies, ultimately they offered little help, citing a convenient loophole stating since stolen items were personal property the business policies won’t cover most of it, giving me about 12% of the loss.

Out of the many stolen items, the one that hurt the most is a one of a kind Minimoog used by the band Skinny Puppy. Anyone that knows me knows how important of an instrument this is and how devastated I’ve been since the break in. With the exception of a Facebook post hoping to flush the thieves out I haven’t been able to talk about it much, watching the video surveillance of the guy carting it out sickens me, I’ve had to watch it several times, each time waiting a week or so in between viewings because I’m so pissed.

A month ago I came up with an idea to right a wrong so I decided to make a set of art based off the stolen Minimoog. My thought is that to have a set of art based on such an iconic synthesizer would make a great conversation piece, look great on any wall, bring happiness to fellow synth nerds and help replace some of the items that CAN be replaced, and basically help turn the negative energy surrounding this ordeal into a positive.

I’m calling the set “The Greater Right of the Wrong” (see what I did there). I sourced a frame maker to make some custom frames in brown to represent the wood from the instrument, and then I had 5 individual pieces of aluminum made to size, brushed, and anodized. I will laser etch all 5 pieces with the blocks of the instrument. They will look like what’s pictured except each edition will be numbered and have “GROTW xxx/200″ small in the lower corner.

The frames are approximately 12” tall and side by side touching the set is about 2ft 10 inches, and about 3ft with nice spacing in between. This is a pre-order. I have approved the metal and frame samples and now they need to go into production. I anticipate shipping at the end of December. This will be limited to 200 sets, numbered in order sold, and once they are sold I will not make any more.

Thank you in advance to everyone who supports this endeavor. It’s been an extremely personal project that I hope puts a smile on all our faces for years to come."
