The fm bleeping melody lead comes from dpvco beta saw through the amazing Scota Vcf which a wonderful module for instant fm leads and sfx ! Of course a lot of modulations are taking place here and there ! Sequencer is the beatstep pro and the drums are from rd6 and volca sample ."

SOME LOFI JAM | DIGITAKT - VOLCA FM

video upload by uh!

"In this jam, I only used the Digitakt and the Volca FM. I couldn't sync them properly, so I adjusted the timing later in the DAW.

Other than that, it's pretty simple. I start with a chopped sample and then add the drums. All the instruments, except for the chords, come from the Digitakt—the bass, lead, and pluck.

It was my first time trying to play everything live without any pre-recorded parts, and it was quite an experience. I have a lot to improve, especially keeping in time, but oh well, let's see how it goes!"

Berlin School Ambient-ish Jam - Zoom R8, Gen R-8, ELZ_1 play, PSS-380

video upload by ChrisLody

"Full Disclosure: I occasionally take on freelance work at Sonicware and Stylophone on an hourly rate producing synth & sample sound design, beta testing, checking English text, video manuals, promo content etc. This video wasn't paid for directly but as a result of my work with Sonicware and Stylophone it is marked as Paid Promotion

So I feel very lucky this year to have worked with a few wonderful companies, mainly Sonicware and Stylophone. Obviously I've been sent the gear I've worked on for Sonicware as you'll see it all over my channel, but also Stylophone were very nice to me and sent me a Gen R-8 from their vaults!

I'm also lucky that my wife (and in-laws) appreciates my second job/hobby and buys me music gear for Christmas, that's where the Zoom R8 multitrack recorder I'm using here came from. I bought a Zoom Livetrak L-6 this year for my dawless jams which I love, but it records all it's channel simultaneously so layering is not possible. Layering is an interesting way of working which I've often used on the channel with a four track tape recorder, mixer and a send effect (most often a Zoom 1201), but this replaces the need for all that with a lot more features to boot.

What surprised me the most about the R8 is that you can record, mix and even master a whole track without relying on a DAW. All effects etc you hear are the R8 alone here. It has a send reverb slot, a send chorus/delay slot and then a single insert effects chain. The insert effect can only be doing one thing at once so you'll typically record through it onto an audio track or you can record dry and re-record (bounce) through it later if you prefer. There are a number of algorithms which are just a number of effects slots in a chain which can be configured to your liking. You switch algorithms, channel, contents and settings or preset of the insert effect depending what you need it for and when. This information is not well presented in the manual though so I geeked out and made a spreadsheet to show more simply which algorithms can contain which type of effect and which can be synced to tempo. That's available here: https://mega.nz/file/quxm3CoD#H1-u2Db... (I printed and laminated these, yes I know how to nerd)

Perhaps the only let down about the R8 is there's no sync options, though it's not really expecting you to work that way. You can have the metronome on headphones only which may be the way to do things, but I suspect I end up recording and panning a click from a Volca/Liven as a way around this.

By the way the small glockenspiel was part of my present from my in-laws. I've never had much luck recording them because of the huge spike in volume when the bar is hit (transient) so I almost gave up, but after studying the effects I saw the R8 has a 'slow attack' effect which was perfect for this as it completely kills the clackiness of the hit. Nice one. I'm recording through one of the two built in mics for that btw.

A quick word about the Stylophone Gen R-8, it's a dirty little beast. It's been kind of wild to get to grips with and I'm finding it's not suited to quite a lot of patches I'd normally make, smooth basses are out of the question for example because it sounds like the oscillator resets at the start of each new note (maybe the envelope, idk) so there's always a percussive click. Plus the filter sound is agro with settings that would normally tame it, it refuses to be calm. But for more aggressive tones it's very nice so I'll probably use it mostly for that!"

Bad Gear - The END of Volcas

video upload by AudioPilz

"Welcome to Bad Gear, the show about the world’s most-hated audio tools. Volcas are awesome: the original meme synths that kicked off an ongoing trend of miniaturization in music technology and turned countless promising musicians into irredeemable gear addicts.

However, everything must come to an end, so today we are going to talk about Volca Sample New Generation. You might be surprised that my original Volca Sampler - although prominently featured on this channel - never actually received the Bad Gear treatment, that this is the very last member of the existing Volca family to be reviewed here and let’s discuss why I don’t think there’s ever going to be another Volca as we know it.

Volca Sample is not a sampler

Introducing SONICWARE LIVEN Ambient - Immersive Ambient Generator Synthesizer

video uploads by SONICWARE

https://sonicware.jp/pages/liven-ambient

Playlist:
1. LIVEN Ambient Ø (Official PV)
2. How to make ambient music with LIVEN Ambient Ø
3. Layering tones with LIVEN Ambient Ø

Press release follows:

Soundscape Synthesizer LIVEN Ambient Ø Immersive Ambient Generator

4 layers of tone and texture̶Drone, Pad, Atmos, and Noise̶merge to generate resonance and transformation.

Blendwave Modulation Synthesis

Newly developed synth-engine with 6 structures, designed to create undulating and fluctuating tones.

Noise and Space

The Noise layer processes 8-second stereo sampling loops with noise blending and pitch modulation.

Extensive Effects Section

9 types of lush Reverb with shimmer, plus 6 types of effects including Tape Delay and Master Chorus.

Sequencer on Each Layer

Records performances, notes probabilities, and evolving tonal changes.

Immersive Ambient Generator
Ambient Ø (zero) is incredibly easy to use. Start by playing a tone from one layer using the note hold function. While listening closely, simply tweak the knobs to modify the tone and add other layers to shape a pleasing sound.

Blendwave Modulation Synthesis
We conducted extensive research into creating undulating and fluctuating tones for Ambient Ø, resulting in the development of a new wavetable-based synthesis.
Blendwave Modulation Synthesis combines 6 unique structures with 32 WAVEs featuring complex harmonic transitions, making it easy to create powerful low drones, lush pads, and transparent pizzicatos, perfect for ambient music.

4 knobs / 8 parameters offer a wide range of tone creation.

A WAVE contains 128 harmonic tables, allowing for diverse tonal changes such as moving from basic waveforms to complex harmonics. The WAVE is
represented by a yin-yang icon, with the yin representing moves in the reverse direction through the tables during modulation.

6 Structures
Each structure has a different number of oscillators and modulation circuits. ATMOS 1 applies ring modulation, while ATMOS 2 applies FM modulation.

Noise and Space
The Noise layer includes 8 specially selected nature sounds, offering noise blending, pitch adjustment and modulation to infuse unique spatial characteristics.
Additionally, it allows for up to 8 seconds of stereo sampling from the line input, letting you create personalized textures.

Extensive Effects Section
Ambient Ø is equipped with 9 types of lush reverb, each offering unique spatial dimensions and brightness settings. You can individually adjust the reverb send and shimmer send (for layering octaves) for each layer.

In addition to the reverb, the Ambient Ø offers
an effect unit with Tape Delay, Reverse Delay, and 4 master effects; Overdrive, Bit/Rate Crush, Tilt EQ, and Stereo Chorus.

Sequencer on Each Layer
You can not only layer the four tones, but each layer also includes a sequencer that allows you to record keyboard performances.
Furthermore, you can record changes in numerous parameters, including level, pan, and filter movement over time.

16 Ambient Sound Pattern Palettes, crafted by expert sound designers
No need to start from scratch. Choose a palette that fits your mood, start playing tones, tweak the knobs, and layer them following your heart. Thus, your inner thoughts and emotions will be crafted into sound.

Play On The Go: Portable, Built-in speaker, and Battery-powered
Leave your usual workspace and try using Ambient Ø in your living room or outdoors. As its evolving sounds mixes with the surrounding environmental noises, you are likely to experience genuine Ambient Music.

Ekzil - "Orbital Teapot" : Circuit Track / Volca sample / Volca bass

video upload by Geoffroy AULAGNER

"I am proud to present to you my video number 4 of my monthly challenge 😁

Recently I've been having problems with the buttons on my novation circuit 😟.. I sometimes have to press them several times (especially the play button)
Have you ever encountered this problem ?

I didn't use the volca sample here . I decided to force myself to reduce the number of drums (I tend to use too many 😛)

I will be delighted to have your feedback! Especially on mastering. Because I'm not always very good at handling this 🎧 (the mastering of my previous song, Fantasy Dream, is a fail 😢)

The setup:
Novation Circuit Tracks: Drums, bass, pad
Volca Keys: Lead melody
Volca Bass: Second melody
Korg NTS-1: ping-pong reverb, chorus, build up with the noise oscillator"

This last song has many parts. I would really appreciate if you tell me what your favorite part is, and which part would need to be reworked for the "mastered" version 😉

I resumed a music that I had composed on Ableton Live some time ago. I decided to take it again in dawless format 🎹
