Voltage Starved Compression Goodness with Hungry Thumb

video upload by Robots Are Red and Hive Mind Synthesis

"Hungry Thumb, by Modular 4 the Masses.

This is an 8-10hp Voltage Starved Compressor module with additional side chain and EQ.

Thank you to Modular 4 the Masses for providing the module for this video."

00:00 - Intro
00:45 - Demo with Kick only
06:58 - Full Drums
09:14 - Plucky Voice
12:00 - Full Mix

HungryThumb is a Eurorack adaptation of a compressor named Engineer's Thumb, typically built as a guitar effect pedal. Juanito built an Engineer's Thumb early in the tin can synth journey, naively replicating the 9V core of the circuit, and then didn't really know what to do with it.

Until they put an 808 kick drum through it. As a kick drum processor, this compressor shines brightly, especially when the Starve settings reduces the core circuitry voltage to 9V and lower. You can get even the purest 808-style kick drum signal, which will be mostly a sine wave, to crunch, clip, gate, fizz and fold. Do you need hardstyle kicks in your modular? This can get you there.

The Engineer's Thumb this circuit is based on uses an LM13700 OTA chip as the adjustable gain portion. These chips are a bit noisy, so an innovation of Engineer's Thumb was to put the gain section in an op amp inverting feedback loop, meaning while the compressor is set to its highest gain, the OTA is set to its lowest gain, and will theoretically be creating less noise. The theory checks out, but I'm not sure how much we Eurorack people care about noise floor.

Get lost in Sound Effects with Nyquist Nightmare

video upload by Robots Are Red

"Nyquist Nightmare by Modular 4 the Masses
12hp Wacky FM Synthesizer designed to emulate the sounds of scanning radio frequencies and more!"

Modular for the Masses

Nyquist Nightmare

Audio Mangling Modulator/Demodulator

This module is a modulator/demodulator. The top four knobs interact with each other to take a signal and mangle it beyond all recognition, or if you're patient and lucky, let the signal come through mostly unchanged.

What is going on there? you ask. The input is used to frequency-modulate a VCO that can oscillate beyond anybody's hearing range. The resulting (possibly ultrasonic) signal frequency-modulates a second identical VCO. This leads to the kind of signal degradation you might expect from an AM radio transmission. Or a short wave signal fighting its way through a hurricane.

The rest of the knobs control filtering; high-pass to remove the truly ground-shaking rumbles the top for knobs can generate, and resonant low-pass to get the harsh high pitches out of the signal, and emphasize (for example) the frequency range of human speech, if you want to pass old movie dialogue through this.

Also included are a wet/dry control (while prototyping this module I would sometimes spend minutes looking for the perfect knob settings to allow a signal through just to realize the signal source had stopped playing), a CV input for the low-pass filter with an attenuator knob, and a effect volume knob.

Some fun things to try:

with zero input, try to get a modem sound!
connect a simple waveform and massage the top four knobs to fold the wave in surprising ways
David Lynch. Put David Lynch through this.
turn the resonance of the low-pass VCF up and use this as a VCO (not 1V/oct, I'm afraid
Turn both "Carrier" knobs all the way down, so the VCOs are stalled, and listen to the signal bash its way through

Sequential 02 : Oberheim OB-6 Sound Demo : " Massive Mod " user bank preview by I.H.R

video upload by I Hate Robots

"Sequential Oberheim OB-6 (module) - sound demo of few user programs, this is not a jam, and the video is a loop, not in realtime.

00:00 Duality
04:20 X-Rhodes
08:15 Gate 1
10:05 Lux
12:15 Alien 1
14:06 Sun
15:10 Coma
17:02 Gate 2
18:22 Nop
19:31 Dark Phaz
22:40 Omniarp
25:00 Alien 2
26:25 Berlin Mod
29:35 Crispy Pad

In practical terms, the OB-6 (keyboard or module version) is a modern and refined embodiment of all the experience and expertise of Dave Smith (Sequential) and Tom Oberheim. Its sound engine sits somewhere between the Sequential Prophet-6 and the Oberheim OB-Xa; it's essentially a fusion of the two!

It's high-end, old-school analog in the purest tradition—the sound is big, fat, deep, and powerful—but with modern digital assistance that allows it to fully exploit its capabilities and push its boundaries.

This is precisely the subject and purpose of this preset bank, which I designed entirely myself.

This is my main OB-6 bank, which I use very often for my sound design work in the studio or for my training sessions. User Bank #3 (Massive Mod), it contains a total of 96 custom presets. I'm not presenting them all here, the demo would have been far too long, but I've prepared this short demo with a few of them to give you a sonic preview of the synth and its modulation capabilities!
Sometimes I use a single preset with its modulations, either played directly on the keyboard or sequenced with a keyboard layer on top, and other times I mix two presets together (the OB-6 is monotimbral).

Everything you hear comes from the OB-6; there are no added effects, no post-production processing !

U-He Zebra 2: Dark Rhythmical Presets + Patterns. Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

πŸ“‘ 'Quantum Pulses' is a bank of 50 presets + patterns for the U-he Zebra 2 virtual synthesizer. The collection contains dark, deep, atmospheric, sci-fi, harsh and aggressive sounds that have a wide range of uses: from cinematic sound design to modular techno sequences.
πŸ” The soundset is inspired by the modern techno scene, vintage sci-fi films and experimental robots. Perfect for Techno, Industrial, Dub, IDM, Experimental, Cinematic sound design, and others.

πŸ“¦ Get these presets: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/zebr...
πŸ‘€ The author of the soundset is skendi (Arseniy Pushkov).

⚗️ The sequences work in arpeggio mode, which allows for more interesting playing of several notes in a pattern.
🎚️ Each patch is performance-ready, with velocity sensitivity and ModWheel assignments mapped for expressive control. ModWheel affects the ADSR's performance, making sounds both clearer and more blurred.

πŸŽ›️ Each patch includes 8 Macros. These controls are designed stylistically and affect the waveform, giving it movement and changing its shape, adding various FM textures and bitcrush, and also affecting the filter by opening and closing it.
The X/Y controls can be manipulated with a mouse or used as 1–8 macro knobs for hands-on control via a standard MIDI controller, making the soundset highly expressive and performance-friendly.

"12/14/25 Roland SVC-350 Vocoder (for sale) & SH-101 + Shure SM58 + Peavey 1300 & DDL-3 + Alesis MIDIVERB II

'Hello, buy my vocoder—now, now, now! Please.'

Those are the lyrics. We are listing the SVC-350 Vocoder and the SPV-355 pitch to voltage synthesizer in this video on reverb.com at Christopher’s Boutique 489."

via this Reverb listing

"This listing is for two rare rack units by Roland that will let you turn your voice into robots, aliens, or just plain old voltages: the SVC-350 Vocoder and the SPV-355 Pitch to Voltage Synthesizer. The video in the photos section of this listing is of the actual unit.

The SPV-355 allows you to take audio and convert it into pitch voltages, envelopes, and gates to use on other equipment. It’s also a nice two-VCO synthesizer itself, with filter and envelope controls.

The SVC-350 is a coveted Vocoder, allowing you to connect synthesizers, drum machines, guitars and, of course, a microphone, and get either a fully wet vocoded version or a blend of the dry and wet.

Both work well, but both are old. This means you need to use them regularly or they can develop a little bit of scratch when turning the knobs.

You are the robots."

Creative Eurorack Distortion & How To Use It // HEAD BANGER from Setonix Synth & Robots Are Red

video upload by DivKid

"Distortion has been an essential tool for my music making for most of my life, whether that was playing guitar, working with synths in amps, re amping synths and production stems through pedal FX or smashing mixers, tape machines and other gear I've always found it fascinating and with the options to CV control distortion in modular it's even better!

Head Banger from Setonix Synth & Robots Are Red takes the Swedish Death Metal sound of the Boss Heavy Metal pedal, heavily re vamps it for a wide range of input sources, adds CV control and a creative feedback path and presents itself in Eurorack form. While the name and styling lean on the metal heritage it's been interesting to find a subtler warmth and crunch, synths in tube amp like tones and blown out noisy cassette style grunge for more ambient music.

There's a 5% off code for sales of Head Banger at https://www.setonixsynth.com/ with code HEADBANGER5. If you're a Patreon supporter there's an exclusive 15% off code for you at / divkid"

The Head Banger is Pure Sonic Destruction

video upload by Metamyther

"The Head Banger Eurorack distortion module is a raw, aggressive tool designed for pushing sounds to their absolute limit. This brutal distortion module delivers crushing overdrive and a send/return that can feedback, ensuring explosive walls of sound. The Head Banger adds a unique, high-voltage character that cuts through any mix. Perfect for any system that needs to hit hard."

via Setonix Synth

"The HEAD BANGER Heavy Metal Distortion brings the authentic “chainsaw” sound made famous by the Swedish Death Metal scene to your Eurorack synthesizer! This tonal monster conjures an unholy union between high-quality VCA circuitry and the most legendary distortion circuit in Heavy Metal!

The HEAD BANGER (a collaboration between SetonixSynth and Robots Are Red) gives the modular-based metalhead total control over a wide range of tone parameters: a three-band EQ with 20dB of boost/cut per band, Distortion amount, plus bass boost (Doom) and soft limiting (Crush) switches. These controls will faithfully recreate the classic compressed, grinding Gothenburg sound when fully “dimed,” but they can also provide a great range of saturation reminiscent of 4-track tape and vintage consumer mixers at other settings.

So, users pursuing more mellow sounds need not fret: despite its “heavy metal” tag, the Head Banger offers a fantastic range of distortion flavors perfect for subtly or un-subtly “"warming up” just about any sound that dares approach its input.

But if you thought Jack (Setonix) and Brian (RAR) would simply emulate a famous pedal and call it a day, you would be gravely mistaken! The Head Banger is fully optimized for use with your drums, oscillators, filters and other modular audio effects. It offers full CV control over Input Gain, Feedback amount with Send/Return loop, and Dry/Wet mix. This allows the user to create a dense web of sound and selectively re-integrate it with the original input signal in a number of interesting ways.

With the arrival of the Head Banger, Eurorack users finally have access to the most highly regarded distortion circuit in aggressive music. And now it has more CV control and synth-friendliness than ever! For anyone with a love of harsh, heavy, and/or distorted sounds, the Head Banger is a must-have!"

Glitchy High Speed Switch || Turbocharger by Hakai Labs

video upload by Robots Are Red

"Turbocharger is a 6hp high speed switch between two signals. By default one signal is 5v and the other is 0v. There is an internal oscillator to act as the switching clock. The oscillator also has PWM control. CV control over all parameters. And the 'Do Not Touch' knob... well you'll just have to watch to see it's glitchy goodness.

Special thanks to Hakai Labs for providing the module for this video."

"Turbocharger is finally here!

Turbocharger at its core, is just a simple super high-speed switch (not a VCA) between 2 inputs. This sounds boring, but the switch is run by a CMOS switch IC capable of switching at extremely high speeds. This, paired with its internal oscillator, with PWM controls, makes for some fun experimentation. The best part is you don’t even have to use the internal oscillator. There is an external clock input that you can patch in your own pulse wave to control the switch.

Turbocharger is an idea that I (Scott Danesi) have had for some time now. After watching a presentation by Jon Sonnenberg (artoftravelogue.blogspot.com) back in the day at one of the early Knobcon conventions in Chicago on Wave Replacement Synthesis, I thought, I could do that in one module but make it crazier. So, what started out as a simple “Turbo” gate for the NT Controller module, now turned into this monstrosity.

The front panel art was created by the talented Aurich Lawson.

Check out the user manual below for more detailed information!

"Two fuzz channels based on the fuzz face circuit with a built-in pickup simulator.

Gnarly is a 7 knob beast that will destroy whatever you throw at it. It has many dead zones in the pots that will adjust based on the position of other pots. It's all about finding the sweet spots and living on those fine edges. The transistor pairs on this section are replaceable.

Oomph is a 5 knob bass friendly take on the fuzz face and compliments the upper harmonics of the Gnarly section. Pickup simulator - Fuzz circuits offer unique sound when paired with the inductance of the pickup coils in a guitar. This why it is often suggested to have fuzz pedals as your first in a pedal chain. So we've built-in a coil to simulate your eurorack signal being emitted by a guitar pickup. We've also included a pickup simulator output so you can use it to interface with other fuzz instruments (pedals, modules, etc.). As an added oddness - you can also input your guitar into the pickup sim output (just don't plug anything into the normal input). This will still get you Eurorack level output. Please don't input Eurorack levels into the pickup sim output.

Tips - Experiment with the pickup simulator and buffered signal. Use the PS.Level to keep the signal low, borderline on cutting out. You find lots of joy in the gnarly section by keeping this level at the edge."

Mr. Wavey by Blue Lantern Modules

video upload by Robots Are Red

"What is Mr. Wavey? Well, the boring answer is Mr. Wavey is a 12hp oscillator follower. The fun answer is that Mr. Wavey takes a boring triangle and pulse oscillator and turns it into a waveform powerhouse. With 12 waveforms spanning from the basics like Sine and Pulse, to subs and double ramps, to blended or sequential unique waveforms. Or control Mr. Wavey with 2 separate oscillators for some even more unique morphing waveforms. Or slow things down and use it as a more unique and weird LFO.

via Blue Lantern

"Stack: 2 Level PCB sand which
Caution, not skiff friendly. Compatible with POD cases by 4MS

Does this module require another module?
Yes, you need an oscillator vco module. Best compatibility is a vco with triangle wave and square wave.
Self oscillating sine wave from a VCF module can be used but will not take full advantage of the module.

What does this do?
This module takes two external sources (patched) from an external other module. It wants a triangle waveform and a square waveform.
The internal analog circuitry will make you a variety of wave forms, selectable by knob. You can also blend the output with a slicer and a sub harmonic generator on the second channel.

This module upgrades your boring vco. The wave shapes found on this product is 15+ years of analog circuits I have gathered.

You get two channels of waveform banks. Each can output something separate and different.

There is CV control for the Waveform selection banks, Sub harmonic selection bank, and Pulse Wave Modulation on channel 2."
