Jupiter 4 : Ring Modulator : Spring Reverb : Sound Exploration with the Warm Audio Ringer Bringer
video upload by Luke Million
"Ever wondered what a Jupiter-4 sounds like through a Ring Modulator and a Spring Reverb?
Well I did and made some cool, fun sounds ranging from subtle to outrageous.
The Roland Jupiter-4 is connected to a Warm Audio Ringer Bringer, an Echo Fix Spring Reverb and that passes through a Franklin Audio DI-20 before hitting my Universal Audio Apollo Twin.
This video is part of my Sunday Sessions Series where I create improvised Jams that will form the basis for future tracks."
This appears to be the first post to feature the Warm Audio Ringer Bringer. Some info below.

Coloray performs 'Tonight' with the 3rd Wave 8M and 24M synths
video upload by Groove Synthesis
"Berlin-based electronic artist Coloray takes the new 3rd Wave 8M desktop synthesizer for a spin alongside the flagship 24M in this live performance of his original song 'Tonight.' Learn more about the 3rd Wave 8M: https://www.groovesynthesis.com
Watch as Coloray sculpts sounds in real-time using both synths controlled by Ableton Live, creating layers of wavetable textures and analog warmth without any overdubs.
The 3rd Wave 8M brings the complete synthesis engine to a compact desktop format with 8 voices, bi-timbral operation, and the same premium analog filters that define Groove’s 3rd Wave character. At $1,999, the 8M makes the distinctive 3rd Wave sound accessible to a broader range of musicians while maintaining patch compatibility with the 24-voice models.
In this performance, Coloray sequences multiple synth parts on the 24M (taking advantage of its 4-part multitimbral capabilities) while the 8M handles the driving bassline. Throughout the song, he uses the performance controls to shape filter sweeps and envelope responses, demonstrating the intuitive real-time control that makes the 3rd Wave series so expressive. The vocals feature live vocoder processing, with drums and vocal samples provided by Ableton playback tracks.
Coloray (Raynor De Groot) is the boundary-pushing electronic artist known for his genre-defying approach that draws from ambient, EBM, techno, house, and disco. His tracks have topped Beatport charts and earned support from Four Tet, Dixon, Solomun, and Pete Tong. His innovative 'Future Static' audiovisual concept and virtual reality experiences showcase his commitment to pushing creative boundaries."
Roger Linn: The King of Drum Machines
video upload by Jack Pearson
"This is the story of Roger Linn, a guitarist from Los Angeles whose innovative sample based drum machines changed the sound of music forever.
Special thanks to Roger himself for featuring my video in the September Linnstrument newsletter (https://myemail.constantcontact.com/L...) and on his website (https://www.rogerlinndesign.com).
I first learned about Roger a few years ago while making a film called “The History of Sampling in Music” [below]. While I didn’t know anything about Roger at the time, I was astounded to learn that he had created both the LinnDrum and the MPC, which shaped the punchy robotic drums of 80s pop music and the grungy experimental grooves of 90s hip-hop respectively. I did a quick bit of research about him for my video, but didn’t really dig much deeper than that… However, a few months ago I decided to rewatch my old project, which reignited my interest in Roger’s story and gave me the idea for this video.
Like my previous project, I’d initially planned to write a script and do a voice-over, but after discovering the assortment of recorded interviews that Roger has already appeared in, I realised that I could just chop them up and have Roger tell his own story. I thought 'hey that sounds pretty cool, how hard could it be?'
Well, let’s just say I’m probably never going to do something like this again. I did enjoy making this and I am proud of it, but if I had just done a voice-over not only would it have been easier to make, but I also could’ve included a lot information without it feeling incredibly clunky. The initial cut was about 26 minutes, but I cut out loads of stuff for the sake of pacing and trying to stick to narrative beats. Roger is a fascinating guy with a lot of great anecdotes though, so if you enjoyed this video then I highly recommend you seek out some of the podcasts/interviews he’s done over the years.
I planned on making all the music for this film myself, but decided it would be better to use music that relates to Roger in some way (for example, he co-wrote 'Promises' by Eric Clapton and 'Quittin’ Time' by Mary Chapin Carpenter, and first used the LM-1 Drum Computer on the Leon Russell album 'Life & Love' which featured the track 'One More Love Song'.) I salvaged one of these demo tracks for the credits, but you can listen it and a few more scrapped tracks here:
Since you’ve read this far, here’s a few bonus Roger facts that got cut out of the video:
The LM-1 was featured on the best selling album of all time - 'Thriller' by Micheal Jackson, as well as other early 80s hits like 'Maneater' by Hall & Oates, 'Valerie' by Steve Winwood, and for some reason - the original 1983 Thomas the Tank Engine theme song.
Roger hired his friend, a professional session drummer called Art Wood, to record most of the sounds on the LM-1. They set up the kit in Roger’s closet, recording each of the drums one at a time… then called it a day. Given the popularity of the songs featuring these recordings - Art Wood is technically one of most prominently featured drummers of all time.
And here's two bonus facts about this video:
The title 'The King of Drum Machines' is a quote from the father of MIDI - Dave Smith, when he spoke about Roger and the Tempest drum machine (which they built together) on a Sweetwater panel in 2015. [below]
This video was released on Roger’s 70th birthday.
I hope you enjoy it!" The History of Sampling in Music (2022)

The Inventors of Synth (Roger Linn, Dave Smith & Tom Oberheim) - Sweetwater Gearfest 2015
video upload by Sweetwater
"Join Mitch Gallagher as he moderates 'The Inventors of Synth' panel discussion at Gearfest '15. Featuring industry icons Dave Smith, Tom Oberheim, and Roger Linn discussing their thoughts on the past, present, and future of analog synthesizers and controllers.
Legendary synth designer and Grammy-winner Dave Smith was the founder of Sequential Circuits in the mid-'70s. His Prophet-5, the world's first fully programmable polyphonic synth, was the first musical instrument with an embedded microprocessor. Dave is also known as the driving force behind the development of the MIDI specification. He has continued to innovate, and recently unveiled his latest synth creation, the Sequential Prophet-6.
A pioneer of the synth and MIDI world, Tom Oberheim co-designed the Synthesizer Expansion Module (SEM), a device that allowed musicians to simultaneously combine live playing and sequenced playback - a concept that pre-dated the MIDI revolution. In 1981, he, along with Roland's Ikutaro Kakehashi and Sequential's Dave Smith, developed the MIDI spec, which changed the course of modern music. Tom recently re-released his famed Two Voice synth.
Technical Grammy award-winner Roger Linn invented the LM-1 Drum Computer (the first sample-based drum machine) in 1979. He later designed the Akai MPC60, which combined a sampling drum machine with a real-time MIDI sequencer. His guitar effects unit, AdrenaLinn, has been used on hit recordings by John Mayer and Red Hot Chili Peppers. In 2014 he released the LinnStrument, an expressive MIDI performance controller."

Back at it again- Live looping in the studio 2025 and an Interview with MR TUNA Music
video upload by MR TUNA Music
"My friends I am sorry to leave you hanging all summer with no jams, but its a beautiful sunny world out there and I've got to be out IN IT! So in the meantime I have a few jams backlogged that have **never before been released** and expect some weird b-sides that I was too embarrassed to post when I had content to spare !
Anyways- lots going on here, we got some Hydrasynth deluxe, classic analog pads from the JX-8P... and lots of super pump-jumping with the MX-1 sidechaining and doing some beat effects. Jupiter-80 muted trumpet is the funnest sound in the world.
Stay a while, and listen!"
---
And an interview with MR TUNA Music by Ivan Trajkovic aka dejayiwan editor and journalist (and sometimes producer and DJ):
Q: Have computers and DAWs, in a sense, destroyed creativity – why do we have so many “DAWless” setups today?
A: I think a really big part of it is a desire to get away from 'the screen'. Staring at a computer all day for work, clicking away on a mouse and keyboard can become exhausting after a long day, and to break away from the rigidity and comforts of software simply makes it more fun.... and thats a really big part of why I do what I do. There is some minor advantage to the near-unbeatable quality of analog circuitry you cant quite replicate working purely within a DAW, but that point is being made more and more moot by incredible emulations and virtual analog softsynths.
Q: Today we have apps like BandLab that are complete studios on a phone – have we reached “peak technology”?
A: It staggers me to think about what the future might hold now that music production can be with someone anywhere anytime so long as they have their phones. You can literally be on the bus making a hit track with your thumb. That’s crazy. But I don’t think it’s peak.... Tech is always moving and it doesnt stop for anyone... AI is going to be the next big thing whether we like it or not and we need to find a way to keep in check so we're still doing the creating and imagining and the technology is just an extension of that.
Q: Why are new producers so mesmerized with 80s synths and samplers, even though they’re obsolete tech?
A: Things were built differently. Things were built for professionals. Instruments had a quality of sound and build that is still unmatched today. Some of my gear is 40+ years old and sounds better than the stuff from 2025 thats trying its best to emulate it all today. Why dont we build synths like that anymore? Because its all about money and the manufacturers want to make as much of it as possible while spending the least amount.
Q: With so much new electronic music today, how can anyone “find” an audience?
A: Maybe it's lame to say, but the best path is to be authentic to yourself. When i started finally sharing my music it was more of a personal diary than something i was using to 'get famous' or 'find an audience', but by being true to what I wanted and my own personal vision (and having trust in that over some time), people started to see what I was doing and it all came together. People connect with personality, but it's obvious when you're not being yourself... not just tracks. Its routine to say because its true: be consistent, put your stuff out there. The internet is huge — your crowd is out there, just waiting to stumble onto your page at 3AM.
Q: You have one of the most interesting studios – what was the idea behind its creation?
A: My studio was built with one idea in mind... live looping. When I started dreaming up how I *wanted* to make music there wasnt even the right tools to do it properly.... sequencers were still fairly limited and there wasnt a lot of people in the live-looping jam space. I was really discovering it all and making it work on my own. It all came together with the introduction of the Squarp Pyramid sequencer--- what it allowed me to do, the freedom it allowed me to create with... it was the breakthrough piece of gear I needed to bring everything together and start building and building... and BUILDING. I love the music I get to create, but I am more proud of my studio as a form of art in the beauty of it's function and how it's designed to jam with friends, than I ever have been of the music that I create in it.
Q: What’s the future of electronic music – maybe apps and DAWs in virtual reality?
A: The virtual space is here to stay and it will only get more and more indistinguishable from the real world.... We might be already living in that simulation, but like I said earlier I think the real future is going to be (for better or for worse) in AI production techniques, editing, and complete song production. We're already at the point where AI can create a song for us instantly with our own voices, but how long will it be before AI is doing our chores and boring tasks so that we are free to be creative and put our energy into real art rather than the opposite world we live in now! AI should save us from the hard stuff and let us work on the 'fun stuff', the worthy stuff, the music stuff!
Hyper Arpeggio | Roland JP-8080
video upload by Akihiko Matsumoto

"Roland JP-8000/8080 | A Convergence of Sonic History and Future Innovation
Greetings, fellow sonic architects.
In the relentless pursuit of unparalleled sound, we often find ourselves drawn to the very essence of what makes a waveform resonate with unique character. It is within this spirit of exploration that we wish to share a recent development, an evolution in the very fabric of digital sound design.
Before we delve deeper into the intricacies, allow us to present the coordinates for this journey:
Explore the evolution: JP-8000 - 8080 (Sample Pack) ver.3.5: https://akihikomatsumoto.sellfy.store...
The Genesis of Texture: Reimagining Digital Warmth
For decades, the digital realm has strived to replicate the organic nuances of analog synthesis. Yet, a select few instruments from a pivotal era achieved a distinct warmth, a "softness" that modern software often struggles to emulate. This unique sonic signature, characterized by a rounded edge in its harmonic contours, defines a particular epoch of electronic music. It is a sound that transcends mere emulation, rooted in the very architecture of its digital modeling.
Consider the foundational elements of electronic music: the driving pulse, the atmospheric expanse, the melodic narrative. Each requires a specific textural quality to truly captivate. Our ongoing research and development in this domain have led to a significant refinement of a collection dedicated to these very principles. This material is meticulously curated for beatmakers operating within the intricate landscapes of Neo Trance, Future Garage, Wave, Hardwave, and Witch House, where the precise articulation of sound is paramount.
An Unveiling: Hyper Arpeggio and Beyond"
Our latest iteration, designated as version 3.5, introduces a novel element that pushes the boundaries of rhythmic and atmospheric integration: the Hyper Arpeggio. These are not merely sequences; they are high-velocity, BPM-agnostic drones, meticulously crafted to emphasize the distinct, almost liquid phrasing inherent to the original sound source. This particular characteristic, a unique "rounded edge" in its articulation, is a direct consequence of the original hardware's design, a feature that remains remarkably difficult to replicate with contemporary synthesis methods. It is a testament to the enduring legacy of instruments like the Roland JP-8000 and JP-8080, progenitors of the legendary Super Saw, whose influence continues to shape the sonic landscape.

Novation SUMMIT // A 2025 Synth from 2019... and beyond!!
video upload by Starsky Carr
"Sonically we're in control iykyk :) .... Coming out of Leftfield - was the market ready for the Novation SUMMIT and PEAK FPGA oscillators back in 2018? Did we really understand what they were? .. digital .. yes, but not as we knew it, not old school tech type of digital.
Get my SUMMIT and Peak Patches here:
Vintage Classics https://www.starskycarr.com/patches/p...
Oberheim https://www.starskycarr.com/patches/p...
Clocking at 24MHz these were something new. Bringing out a hybrid when everyone was going analog crazy was a brave move, but one that's still paying dividends.
Building on ideas from vintage classics, it seems to have come from the future... well ahead of it's time - it's always been a 2025 synth but was originally released in 2019.
AND - it's packed full of features...
In this I look at some of the more overlooked features, and the flexibility. In my previous demos i've showed how it can emulate the functions of loads of classic synths, so in this i take it a little further. Looking at binaural mode, complex modulation, 3 distortions, dual filter modes and wavetables.
... and a big thanks to @AlexBallMusic for his cameo :)"

"Like nearly all the high end vintage analog synths we sell, this item has been METICULOUSLY disassembled, cleaned inside and out, FULLY serviced by professionals who’ve been servicing and selling vintage synths for more than the last 3 decades, and systematically tested multiple times over a long period to ensure it’s working exactly as it should. No BS. No ebay surprises. We’re perfectionists and don’t cut corners. Although this instrument came to us in relatively good shape, we want our items to be better than the rest and invested *many* hours of tech time plus parts costs to fully overhaul this unit so it would be clean, working like new again and as reliable as possible for its next owner. This was a serious investment of time, love, and money, and was definitely worth the effort and is of course reflected in the higher than usual price. If you’re looking for a great sounding example of this model that works just like it should without needing to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars in tech fees and waiting from weeks to years, this one should make you very happy.
We’re happy to announce we’ve got another meticulously refurbished Voyetra Eight with keyboard ready for sale. This unit took us approximately 76 hours of skilled vintage synth tech time plus parts costs to get it up to our high standards.
This work included not just getting everything working perfectly, but also applying custom modifications to make tuning better than it was when it left the factory, as well as taking future-proofing measures that other sellers don’t do, but that will hopefully keep this one running well a lot longer than lesser examples you may find.
After 76+ hours of restoration by our very experienced V8 expert and our focus on perfection rather than cost, you won't find a better one."

Cherry AudioODC 2800 - Sound Bank '79
video upload by Polydata
"Straight from the Polydata laboratory: a sound bank for the new Cherry Audio ODC 2800. Inspired by the circuits of the vintage ARP Odyssey synths, this plug-in takes those original designs further with expanded features and functionality. Sound Bank '79 was created to highlight the raw tone of this synth and bring out as much analog tone as possible.
A bank of 45 patches with a wide array of sounds and timbres, both monophonic and polyphonic.
Sound Bank '79 is a series of vintage tones for different synths and plug-ins, so look out for future releases. Recorded completely dry with no external effects or processing.
