In addition to the FANTOM 6 EX, FANTOM 7 EX, and FANTOM 8 EX models available to new purchasers, current FANTOM owners can expand their instruments with all EX sounds and features through the FANTOM EX Upgrade for sale on Roland Cloud.

New effects and a host of fresh workflow enhancements are also included.

Each FANTOM EX model provides the most expansive collection of premium sound engines available in a hardware instrument. Roland’s ACB, ZEN-Core, V-Piano, SuperNATURAL, and Virtual ToneWheel technologies spark inspiration at every turn, providing expressive and inspiring sounds for every musical style.

There are dozens of simultaneous effects, including new studio-grade reverbs and updated Master FX for shaping the overall sound. A characterful analog filter is also available, perfect for infusing tones with extra warmth and grit.

FANTOM EX is primed to be the center of any production universe. Users can directly shape sounds and develop musical ideas with a friendly, ergonomic panel filled with buttons, knobs, and sliders. The color touchscreen dynamically changes to support the task at hand, and it’s now possible to personalize the look by importing custom images for the screensaver and startup view.

Multiple workflow options include the classic Roland TR-REC step sequencer, real-time recording with piano roll editing, and 16 RGB pads for triggering sounds, samples, and clips.

With the built-in 16x3 audio/MIDI USB interface, users can mix and layer soft synths with hardware sounds, send sequencer parts to computer tracks, route DAW sources through FANTOM EX effects, and more.

The loaded FANTOM EX rear panel supports connections with a wide range of gear. There are XLR combo connectors for mics and instruments and eight 1/4-inch outputs to route sounds to external destinations. Roland AIRA Compact J-6 / T-8 / E-4 - DEMO by gattobus

video upload by gattobus

"Roland's birthday party it's not over!
A few days ago they sent me these little magic boxes to try them out and in less than an hour of tweaking, I came out with this song!!!
The song title "A Big Tiny World" is because they are BIG sounding TINY boxes indeed! :D
They are:

- J-6 Chord Synthesizer
- T-8 Beat Machine
- E-4 Voice Tweaker

Their sound quality is astonishing! It's amazing to have the power of ACB technology in such a small form factor...
Everything you hear in this video was played and recorded in real time, no post processing or FX was added.
I had so much fun, I hope you like it!"

Elektron Syntakt. Techno and Electro Patterns

video upload by Adam Jay

"Some patterns I’ve made with Syntakt. No processing.

Things I love: The machines! The flexibility!

It can be so many things.
8 tracks of Model cycles chord machines with deeper control, 2x LFO per track, full envelopes, dual filters, p-lockable FX track. Or half a Rytm , plus new digital drum synth and bass/lead synth machines.

Or a mix between.

All with a tasty chunk of analog Heat drive, filter, and EG, but p-lockable!

There is an inverted envelope shape in the analog fx that I use as a master compressor. The drive is lovely. I also love using some of the analog kicks with a bandpass filter for textures. Can even get kinda of vinyl pops and clicks out of these.

Can have up to 3 simultaneous analog DVCO machines."

12 Track Drum Computer & Synthesizer

Enter a sonic metropolis with Syntakt. Analog and Digital synthesis. Drum and melody. In full fusion.

All your sound crafting, sequencing, and performance needs are fulfilled, in an all-round music mega box that fits in your lap. Syntakt is a drum specialist, full of percussive possibilities, but its four analog and eight digital tracks can be used for melody, harmony, and bass sounds too. Experience epic sounds from the past, pulling others into existence from the future.

The streets of Syntakt are never-ending, the neon lights are never-dimming, its underground is fathomless. Discover worlds within worlds. Adore now. Explore forever.

Meet the machines
There are 35 sound-generating machines to call on, covering a wide range of drum and melodic sounds. Some machines have been reimagined from Analog Rytm and Model:Cycles, with deeper sound control for the latter, while others are entirely new to the world.

For you to create and personalize your sound, we’ve made sure you’ve got a set of parameter controls tailor-made for each machine. They let you quickly tweak the nature of each type of sound, showing you just the relevant options. Comprehensive without being overwhelming. Let loose with analog or digital overdrive, depending on the tracks you’re playing with.

The graphics more than play their part too, with plenty of animated icons offering visual guidance and extra clarity on how each parameter affects the sound. The joys of tweaking shouldn’t only be for the ears after all.

Special effects
Syntakt lets you route any of your synth tracks or external audio sources through the FX block. This gives you analog distortion and filtering, and a couple of LFOs to go to town with. Additionally, you can also call on Delay and Reverb as powerhouse send effects.

And all of the above effects can be sequenced with the FX track. Have them kick in at just the right moment. Add accents and dramatic changes to the selected tracks or external audio. Or use it as a master track for ducking and gating effects.

Modify the moment
Wield a little extra trig craft using the four modifiers, offering four varied levels of expression. Configure the first two modifiers to give you the retrig or velocity behavior you desire, and use the other two to access custom intensities of other parameters. They’re ready for action regardless of which synth track you’re using.

And the best bit is that they don’t just give you that extra playability fun in the here and now, you can also capture the moment by recording to the sequencer.

The keys to the city
Syntakt’s keyboard mode gives you a whole bunch of different scales to play with.

There are some familiar faces and some maybe a little less familiar for you to try out, helping you discover new places and taking things to another level.

Play across a single octave like on a piano keyboard. Or use fold, and have several octaves laid out in front of you.

Deep sound-shaping
Syntakt comes full of filter and envelope goodness. All tracks have a Multimode filter to put to use allowing you to emphasize different parts of your sound, with the digital tracks also able to call on Parametric EQ and a Base-width filter – an additional filter giving you even more sonic control.

Choose from two amplitude envelope types to define the ideal contour of your sound. Try out the ADSR envelope – for your wicked synth lines – or the simpler AHD envelope – perfect for transient percussive sounds.

Pink Noystoise NT-04 drone/sequence synth

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

You can find a demo of the Noystoise NT04 here.

"This NT-04 is one of ten handmade drone/sequence synths made by Noystoise in 2018. It has two oscillators, a low pass filter, simple decay envelope, and an eight step sequencer that can be sync'd with external devices such as a Korg SQ-1 or Eurorack modules.

It's a fun, weird, and sometimes downright squirrly little noise maker and to be honest I hate to part with it, but sometimes bills have to be paid.

This particular NT-04 is in excellent condition, never used outside the studio, and pretty much as close to brand new as a used item can get. That said, there is one issue that has been there since I received it, and that is that the yellow JOY button next to the pitch knob has a tendency to stick in the on position when released, but a light snap of the button when pressing and it will disengage it. This appears to be a quirk of the construction as it rubs slightly against the front panel when pressed. I mostly leave it in the on position anyway as the joystick only changes the pitch when one of the sequencer keys is touched at the same time.

Minilogue Test : Using the sequencer to record knob motion

Published on Feb 15, 2016 K More

"A great tip I found on Sonicstate's channel.
Any knob motion can be recorded to the sequencer, up to 4 layers.
Just press Play to get the sequencer running, then Rec and move any knob. The Rec light will automatically go off at the end of the sequencer. Press Rec again to go to layer 2, then 3 and 4.
Press Edit Mode and Voice button 4 to delete layers.
MIDI sync with DSI Tempest."

Elka Drumstar 80 Drum Machine Demo

YouTube Uploaded by snolan1990 on Sep 19, 2011

"This is a quick demonstration of the sounds and features of the "Elka Drumstar 80 Digital and Programmable Rhythm Unit" released at some point in the early to mid 80's.

All I have to go by in terms of the date of this unit is that it seems to share the same kind of design aesthetics as the Elka EM-22 synth module which was released in 1986 and the fact that the item was purchased from "Chingford Organ Studios Limited" which was registered as opening on 04/02/1983. So if you know any more about this particular drum machine I would love to hear from you.

I personally find the sound of this unit falls somewhere between the Roland TR-626 and the LinnDrum, with the clean sound of the 626 but retaining some nice 80's character more closely associated with the Linn particularly in the Latin sounds. As long as I am able to bypass the internal sequencer with MIDI when I return home I can see myself using the unit fairly prominently in a few of my more Italo style tracks."

Update via Fredrik in the comments: "Until lately I thought that the midi in of the elka drumstar 80 was only for midi clock , but it turns out that the Midi menu has two hidden sub menus. You must press the Record button to activate them (while in MIDI options mode). In the first menu, you can activate the OMNI on / off ( 0.0 / 0.1 ) , but in the next menu ( rec button twice), you can activate midi note trigger on / off ( 1.0 / 1.1 ) . Hope this can help someone out there ."

RS7000 Tutorial Automated Talk Modulation Vari Effect

YouTube Uploaded by zamisers7k on Aug 31, 2011
"Sorry for crud video but hope its good enough to show what is going on.

Have a track with the Vari Effect turned up on it and the Vari effect set to 097
Talk Mod.

Go in to Edit Mode [Enter] key on number pad then press Insert [F3].

Put in the event time where you'd like it examp 001:3:011

[F1] rotary over to event type Exclusive.

Then Enter hex code f0.43.10.6A.01.02.02.00.XX.F7

where XX = 00 - 04 I think, a/i/u/e/o

Repeat insert event at different times.

Or, perhaps the faster way but harder to explain...

This is how I figured this out and you can do it I suppose with any event or
knob tweek that shows up when the Midi Out light flashes.

Put a midi cable from the RS's Out A to the In.

Select a blank tack, mute all tracks to keep from other midi data recording,
press Effect twice [#5] press REC then Play, start turning the F1 knob. The Hex
code will record as events in the events list. Press Stop.

If the events aren't changing the Vowel, remember to unmute
the track you recorded it on. You can mute and unmute it from doing it, the RS
blows my mind yet again."

EMS VCS3 Analog Universal Sequencer

images via this auction

"An absolutely super rare EMS Item here: The Universal Sequencer complete with see through perspex top Based on the Synthis AKS sequencer but much improved. It has clock in and this can be a click or an audio track (Line or Mic)! It also has simultaneous Cv/Gate out for the Sequencer and the keyboard. These are positive and negative gate. In short, you can use it with most analog synths. It has a connector to go straight to the EMS VCS3 or Synthi A and this is how I have been using it. I have included a video below of it in action This is one of the rarest analogue sequencers ever made and I doubt you will find another one easily. If you are an EMS collector or user, this is a must. It may not be the cheapest sequencer around, but it adds that value at least to your EMS setup AND it's a useable and creative tool It works perfectly. You program the notes from the keyboard, which makes it more musical than most analog sequencers, where you have to tune each knob. It can run on it's internal clock or externally and each step can be free when run internally or run externally it is quantized to the incoming clock. Many questions coming in and I will answer them here: The 4 keys on the left above the keyboard are for real time transposition. On the right there is a gap key for programming rests. The dials are for pitch scaling and gate length as well as whether the keyboard or sequencer is triggering the output... In the Middle you have rec and play buttons. It will control any 1 v/oct keyboard and will clock to any external trigger such as another sequencer or trigger out from a drum machine (my TR808 usually triggers it in my setup) Yes, it is THAT rare. Someone told me it was made for a trade show and that they were made in a very limited run."
