Novation Bass Station II (Bass Station 2) - Synth Jam by Damiano Della Torre

video upload by Mr Keys

"I had some fun experimenting with a few arpeggios recorded live on the Novation Bass Station II, and just to give myself some groove I used programmed rhythms from Logic Pro for iPad. Everything was easily synced via MIDI/USB.

A real blast! Long live music and see you soon.

Damiano"

Live Synth Techno in the Studio: Squarp Hapax, TB-303, Jupiter-80

video upload by MR TUNA Music

"Some more uncharted territory here with some techno beats live from the studio. Not really our regular vibe but very fun and fast. Jupiter-80 creating some qualiy keys and big bass from the Korg Prologue with the boiling acid of the TB303 pushing us up and up and UP in the background.

Is this actually techno or is it something else? I can never actually nail it down properly this is probably too 'progressive'."

Novation Summit - "A Sacred Dwelling" [Patch creation by Howard Smith]

video upload by eM

"When I heard of Mr. Howard's patches, I knew I couldn't delay, I needed to have them. Here you are listening to two of his single patches combined into multi setting: SY FIVE and ARP MEMORY.

I've come to accept that my journey into creating my own patches for the Summit may be far fetched. I am honored and privileged that there are those who understand this beautiful machine, well enough that I can enjoy and get lost playing them. It truly is an instrument that will stand the test of time, one to play and one to learn

You can listen to his patch creation 'Meridian' here:"

432 vs 440Hz concert pitch | Love never dies, but Math never lies.

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I am aware this is a controversial subject, but I've been intrigued by it for a long time. First, I was open for it, then I became doubtful and ended up in 'it makes no difference' camp. It's just a frequency like any other.
Honestly, this was supposed to be a 'fun' video where I'd investigate the subject like a mad scientist would, without jumping to conclusions.

From a numerologic perspective, 432 is a fun number. When you add all digits, you'd end up with 4+3+2 = 9. If you tune A to 432, the next A would be 864. Again, 8+6+4 = 1+8 = 9. If you'd use equal temperament, all notes in your scale would be integer (whole) numbers with no decimals, and the digits of all frequencies would add up to 9. A440 would have eight 'broken' frequencies in the scale. But that's numerology, it doesn't make music any better or worse. A VCO runs perfectly stable on 345.6701 Hz and it will probably drift all over the place when it's analog. Does 432 make any sense from the perspective of the Universe? Quite. The number constantly turns up in time and space. Ofcourse it also returns in the Great Pyramid and the lightspeed constant.

Again, that's just numerology and it has nothing to do with frequency. That's like apples, oranges or cows. Or is it? Frequency is cycles per second. Cycles are circles moving in time and phase is expressed in numbers like 45, 90, 180 and 360. There's that number 9 again. How about time? There are 4320 seconds in 12 hours. So maybe, just maybe, 432 Hz is not like 432 cows. The number 9 is a funny number.

Mr Spock would say 'fascinating' and raise an eyebrow.

I've set my Mordax Data to 432 and 440 Hz on 'wave generator' so I could play both with a sequence. Sure it sounds different, because it's tuned a tiny bit lower (98,18 of 100%). By itself this would have a psychological effect of relief, of closure. When you start A440 and play A432, it's relaxing.
But this also happens when you move a semitone or note down.

I ran my Mordax raw sinewaves through Joranalogue's Collide 4 and used it as a resonating body (with the filter and the quadrature ring mod).
I ran a sequence spanning a wide range of notes, with plenty of reverb to make the notes interact, blur and sustain. Then, suddenly the differences between A440 and A432 wasn't subtle anymore. It was huge.

Better? I think so, but that's personal taste. Healing? Nah. More natural? I think so too. But there's nothing magical about it, it's math. I figured that a frequency doubles for each octave, so the range of A0 to A9 would sound completely different for 432 and 440. In fact, the high notes in 440 end up 256 Hz higher than in 432. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but A3 (220 Hz) is already one octave below A4 (440).

So my 'conclusion' is that A432 sounds much lower over the full range of 88 piano keys and the highs are less high. Pitch quality is different, it sounds different, and interaction with other complex frequencies will be different. Resonance and FM will be different. It's up to you to determine what sounds best. Please share your experience in the comments, and please note I am just having fun. I don't believe in the 440 conspiracy and I don't think it's bad for your health. I believe ALL music can support a healing process, but always listen to your doctor first."

Yamaha SEQTRAK Live Looping & Visualizer Performance

video upload by MR TUNA Music

"All sounds, sequencing, and visuals from @yamaha #seqtrak! πŸ† Such a fun and actually very capable machine— For this jam I’ve got Seqtrak hosting the Squarp Pyramid through USB as my glorified MIDI channel selector, and then I’m using the @roli_create LUMI Keys SE to connect to Seqtrak through the Pyramid via Bluetooth MIDI (and some @cmepro WIDI Masters) so I can switch between the 3 synth tracks and also bring in the drums live.

I’ve had the Seqtrak for a week and it’s melding the Tunaverse together in ways I could not have imagined… The live visualizer is very interesting and surprisingly deep. This is a customized program I built and I love the results but I’m really looking forward to putting it through the video synth 🦾🦾🦾"

Rhodes Chroma w/ Enabler SN 016 & Pedals

via this listing

"Your chance to own one of the most sought after analog synths of all time along with the custom-built “Enabler” controller manufactured by Randel Osborne.

Both were purchased directly from Mr. Osborne who described this particular Chroma as cosmetically and functionally one of the nicest he’d ever come across. The Enabler took two years to receive due to the extensive waiting list for this boutique unit.

The Chroma sounds MASSIVE and The Enabler allows the user to in real-time access endless layers of functionality buried by the synth’s original designers.

Comes with the original double sustain pedal, volume pedal, a bespoke interface used to connect the Enabler and an ATA style, heavy duty flightcase.

The only thing keeping me from listing this Chroma as “excellent“ is an error with voice board #5(limiting the synth to 14 voices (still sounds amazing), a burnt out “pixel” in the Chroma’s numerical display (does not affect functionality) and a dark LED screen on the Enabler (which also doesn’t affect functionality). In any event these should be simple fixes and these issues are already reflected in the lower than normal asking price. All buttons/sliders/keys functions as they should.

Due to the delicate nature of the synth it is available for local pick up only in the northeast for now. If it isn’t sold after a while I’ll open it up to shipping although I doubt it will not sell quickly as I’ll be entertaining all serious offers."

Relive the '90s with the Roland JD800: Factory Presets

video upload by Andy Whitmore

"Roland JD-800 - ALL FACTORY PRESETS

The Roland JD-800 is a digital synthesizer that was manufactured between 1991 and 1996. It features many knobs and sliders for patch editing and performance control — features that some manufacturers, including Roland, had been omitting in the name of streamlining since the inception of the Yamaha DX7. The JD-800 thus became very popular with musicians who wished to take a hands-on approach to patch programming. The introduction in the manual states that Roland's intention with the JD-800 was to "return to the roots of synthesis".

Technology
The JD-800 employs Linear Arithmetic synthesis (introduced and made famous by the Roland D-50), which combines sample playback with digital synthesis. The JD-800 has 108 built-in waveforms, which can be expanded via PCM cards. The waveforms span a variety of categories such as analog synthesizers, acoustic instruments, and voices. Many of these waveforms are very short and are used primarily for the attack portion of a sound, while longer ones are used for the sustained part of a sound. The JD-800 was Roland's first instrument to have its core presets developed entirely in the United States, under a short-lived branch of its R&D-LA office in Culver City, California. The core sampled waveforms and factory presets of the JD-800 were created by Eric Persing.

A patch, or single sound, in the JD-800 consists of up to four tones. As every tone consists of an almost completely independent synthesizer voice, a patch could be considered a combination of up to four different synthesizers. In Single mode the JD-800 plays one patch at a time, but in Multi mode it is possible to play five different patches over MIDI, plus a "special" patch. The special patch has different waveforms assigned to the 61 different keys on the keyboard, so is used for drums and percussion sounds. The JD-800 has one effects section. In Single mode, seven effects can be used simultaneously, in series, so all tones in a patch go through the same effects. In Multi mode, three effects can be used at the same time, with all patches sharing the same effects, though any of the patches can be routed to bypass the effects.
