Solina String Ensemble Early Series Comparison

Published on Nov 24, 2019 Italian Vintage Stuff!

"Strictly for nerds: Sorry for my poor keyboard skills, but this was not an intent to make a musical video, it's a comparison of two early series Solina String Ensemble keyboards.
To show that they differ ever so slightly in sound, and how different they sound compared to the later versions.

LuLaAh - Flute, Morphagene, Mimeophon, VCV Rack, O Coast, Freak, Disting

And also the VCV Rack patch file - https://www.patreon.com/posts/31818579

Patch notes :
-----------------------
- I use the Mimophon as a voice with its feedback all the way up, and I'm playing it with the Keystep. It's then going through the Disting in stereo delay mode with a nice long feedback.
- I switch the v/oct cable of the Keystep from the Mimeophon to the O Coast and record it into a looper in VCV Rack.
- I then switch the cable again to a self-oscillating filter on the Freak module from Vult, and record it into another looper in VCV Rack.
- I record the flute directly into the Morphagene with the Zoom H6 recorder.
- In VCV Rack I have a sequence going with the Seasons sequencer, sequencing both the Woldemar oscillator and an FM-OP which is going through Clouds.
- Also in VCV Rack, I play the Cozmic oscillator with the Keystep through Midi.
By the way, Lulaah in Hebrew means a loop..."

Modal Electronics 008 Pad tweaking

Published on Nov 24, 2019 synthlegends

"Demo of the Modal 008 played through the GFI Clockwork V3 Delay Pedal. No additional FX or masterin used. I played a lush pad with different filter types, somoe LP Filter, 4 db, 3, db, 2, db, 1 db and notch. Also I used once the drive parameter and once a bit filter FM. Also the waveforms changed and the mixing of the oscilators. I modulated the pad with 2 LFO, modulated the filter cutoff and the PMW."

"This one is perfectly working, in good condition - the top metal has a bit rack rash but this doesn't prevent the synth from producing some of the most excellent synth sounds you could possibly hear - even today in our synth-flooded world, this is a stand-out piece. In case you fancy to upgrade it to a V8 (as i did with my other V8), i can get you in touch with a tech who just made clones of the V8 Rev2 Logic board. But even without being a rev2, this is heaps of synth fun and mesmerising, in my opinion better than the big Moogs or Oberheim from that era. And these were pretty great already..."
