GND-1T Speech Chip Synthesizer Tutorials 0. Introduction and quick start

video upload by GND-1

"Available directly from https://richardvanhoesel.com/gnd1t

Here's an introductory and quickstart video for the GND-1T speech chip synthesizer released in 2024. You can find more short topical GND-1T tutorials on this channel. Over 5000 hours in the making, it's a beast of a synth with a highly unique architecture. Like its predecessor the GND-1, the 1T is based on an accurate emulation of the speech chip inside the popular Speak and Spell game, but goes way beyond anything that's possible in hardware.

The design of the new version is heavily geared towards hands-on performance without necessarily needing a computer, and includes a USB host port for minimal setups. But it's equally well suited to a DAW setup with its full parameter set available over MIDI. It now also includes built in effects and drum kits, assignable encoders, a touch screen, and full analog and USB audio I/O.

Everything you hear in these demos is a direct stereo stream recorded from the GND-1T, without any additional processing or effects.

For more information I recommend you download the user manual from the website. Any questions, feel free to leave them as comments here, or get in touch with me via the website."

Agentic Devices - Geysers (Max4Live Spectral Modulator)

video upload by Agentic Devices

"Geysers is a Max for Live effect with both a spectral filter and delay-line modulator capable of creating a wide array of effects. Everything from dramatic filter sweeps, primitive pitch-shifting, wild filtered echos, subtle stereo phasing and comb-filter-like resonances are achievable.

At the core of Geysers is the spectral filter which is modulated in stereo by two separate LFOs. This is then routed into the delay-line modulator which can then be fed-back into the spectral filter for dubby filtered delays, flanging, comb-filtering and more.

Noise Sculpting with the Synamodec - Gorse Lathe

video upload by NOISEBUG

"Synamodec - Gorse Lathe

https://www.noisebug.net/products/syn

This synth has 2 sound/noise generators whose outputs are mixed, they go through the Harmonics and from there to the output, but with a switch we select which one goes directly to the harmonics and which one goes to the delay.

In N to Dly position, the signals go
Noise – Dly – harmonics - out

Legus – harmonics – out
In L to Dly position the signals go
Noise – harmonics – out
Legus – Dly – harmonics – out
NOISE - The switch selects three types of noise, white, white LP and grain, a control allows you to regulate the grain level, output level control and Tex, before going to the mixer the noises go through a filter, cut-off control and resonance, and with a switch we select HP or LP output.

The upper NOISE switch selects whether the output is fixed or triggered by an external gate signal.

If we choose fixed, the LED will always be on.

If we choose trigger mode, the LED will light up with each gate pulse.

The Decay control then operates like a small envelope.

Synamodec - Gorse Lathe

The Sens control adequately regulates the external gate signal applied

The Rate and PWM control is for the LFO (only for delay) control the frequency and the waveform

LEGUS - Legus consists of 4 original oscillators interconnected and mixed together, we also have output level control

DLY – We have Input level , Time, feedback and Dry/Wet controls

And a Modulation control that control the level of the LFO to modulate the Time of de delay.

HARMONICS - It is a 6-band filter/equalizer, with input and feedback level control.

Keep in mind that there are three level controls with which we can work to obtain sound at the output.

If, for example, we select N to Dly, we will have to act on the output level control of the noise generator, on the input level control of the delay and on the input level control of the Harmonics."

This is Orchid by Telepathic Instruments

video upload by Telepathic Instruments

Word is this is a project by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala.

"This is Orchid, an advanced chord generating hardware synthesizer developed for songwriters, producers and musicians to expand the possibilities of songwriting and musical exploration.

Using the synth’s unique chord logic system, users can craft seemingly endless variations of chords with ease and precision, together with its unprecedented chord voicing system that pitches and positions chords at the turn of a single dial. This process effectively expands the potential of the chords to an entire piano’s key set, not just the 12 velocity sensitive keys found on the unit.

Users can then use 'Performance' modes (Strum, Slop, Arpeggiator, Pattern and Harp) to shape and alter the chords to maximise creative expression. All this is brought into sonic existence by a rich polyphonic synth engine (virtual analogue, FM and reed piano emulation) with lush onboard ambient and modulation FX, plus a separate bass synth engine solely for bottom-end accompaniment.

When it’s time to go mobile the Orchid boasts stereo built-in speaker and long-life rechargeable battery charged via USB-C. Speaking of USB-C, the Orchid is capable of sending chords in MIDI form straight to the DAW exactly as they are crafted in the unit, or traditional 5-pin MIDI if you just want to talk straight to your beloved old poly.

Orchid. For Chords.

Prophet Rev2, Red Panda Particle 2 and Chase Bliss Mood mk2 // Like Spinning Plates (Radiohead)

video upload by Django

"My interpretation of Like SpinningPlates by Radiohead. I was practicing this piece on my piano and wanted to try it out on my Rev2 using a binaural patch.

The Particle is set to reverse mode with a long delay time. The Mood is in tape/reverb mode with the classing dip switch enabled.

Edit: I seem to have messed up the panning on the Particle 2. Sorry."

Sequential Prophet Rev2 + effects // Lost in the Fog

video upload by Django

"I tried out a variety pedals on the Rev2 and a created a binaural patch that sounded like pretty much like an ambient foghorn. Unfortunately I didn't save the patch and wasn't able to reproduce the sound. This is the closest I got.

Signal flow (in order):
Sequential Prophet Rev2
Boss SD-1 // left channel only
Proco Turbo Rat // Right channel only
Red Panda Particle 2 // Dens mode with stereo spread enabled
Chase Bliss Mood MK2 // Tape/Reverb mode
Strymon BigSky // Cloud algoritm"
