New Synthesizers Coming from Waldorf M Developer Vladimir Salnikov

Aberfine Aeon dual VCF development video upload by Vladimir Salnikov

This one is in via an anonymous reader who had the following to say: "Vladimir Salnikov, the freelance developer behind Waldorf's M synthesizer, is starting his own synthesizer company with a kickstarter for a polyphonic analog synthesizer."

Some details from Vladimir Salnikov himself (Note a 1.09 update for the M is also coming):

"Hi guys. I have a good chance now to dive deep into my synth project, which I want to present soon on Kickstarter. However, I need to ask you, what do you, guys, want it to be?

I have for now actually 3 nice-sounding synths in different design phases. All these activities are for financing the 4th synth, which I see as a promising shiny new direction in the industry. But to develop this properly, I need to hire two extra developers - and I do not have money for this right now. So the idea is fairly straight - make a 'simple' synth, back its production by crowdfunding (developing costs are on my side), and reinvest the profit into the development of a fully new synth, based on some new technologies and concepts.

What is the development right now, all on the working prototype phase :

1. 4 voices 'classic' hybrid, based on Shruti / Ambika from Mutable Instruments and it's concept - intercheangable filter boards, simple control, rich sound. An engine has lot of additions and upgraded to the modern 32bit platform from original 8 bit. Target price is 459 Euro / 499 USD for the complete factory built synth (min 100 units should be backed). DIY TH kits may follow if needed (one is yet designed).

2. A Mono/Paraphonic hybrid, based on dual MI Braids as an oscillators section, and multimode VCF (triple core) of my own design. High quality digital FX (reverb, delay, flanger) are onboard (per synth). Flexible VCF 'cores' routing in analog domain. Sample-precise concept for CVs in analog domain. Target price is 399 Euro / 459 USD for the complete factory built synth (min 100 unit should be backed).

3. A 6/12 voices hybrid polysynth based on idea of OBX, but with digital oscillators. Dual VCF design (Polyvoks + CEM), base version is a 6 voices desktop module, expandable for 12 voices with voice card (USERS INSTALLATION IS WELCOME BY DESIGN). High quality onboard FX (per layer) - shimmer reverb, delay with looper, flanger, phaser, distortion etc. Dual Layer mode is possible with installed expansion. Target price is 969 Euro / 999 USD for a 6 voices desktop module, 399 Euro / 469 USD for the expansion (again, min 100 units should be backed to achieve target prices).

What will you prefer to launch first? The design readiness and software readiness are in the same order as variants, i.e. 'PolyShruti' is most ready, 'Dual Braids + flexiVCF' is on case design phase, 'PolyPolyvoks-OB6' is built on the board, working with modified M software.

Fist two synths will be equipped with an 2.23 inch OLED display (same as on Kyra) and mixed potentiometers / encoders / buttons / LEDs controls. For the last also keyboard version is desired but will be possible only in second / third batch (if any occured). Display for the last now is a question, but 4,5 inch hi-res IPS (no touch) is desired (waiting for sample delivery).

Perhaps it is a bit naive, but I am believe in the POWER of GS community, and, at least know some of you guys personally. I do love design synths, I do love how they sounds, and I would be happy to make something new in collaboration with you guys, as it was (partially) with the M. I was really happy to do this.

And again, this project is actually for financing real breakthrough. Can't manange to do this on my own, unfortunately.

So, all opinions are welcome! Thank you in advance, dear community.

Greetings from Remagen
your Vladi.

p.s. 1.09 for M is in development no abandonned abyss for the M.

p.p.s In Hybrids We Trust!"

Followed by:

"So I finally did the VCF prototyping - CEM + Polyvoks VCF dual with flexi routing (serial / parallel / serial + parallel). It's sound such an unique and reach. So, the variant 3 is finally chosen and development began on full gas."

Looks like it will be the Aberfine Aeon based on the video above?

PPG w2.2x4 Eurorack Module in the Flesh

You might recall the upcoming PPG w2.2x4 eurorack module from the announcment post here. That post featured a couple of renders, one in classic PPG blue and one in a limited edition black.

Here are a couple of pictures of the blue model in the flesh, in via Liquid Sky.

"I just use the first patch and try to change it as I went along. I used the arp and tried to use sequencer but had some hicups
and then just free played on the different sounds that it changed to while twisting knobs and such."

"I can't believe I actually own an oberheim and I'm so excited to have it be my first true analog Polysynth

I hope to learn everything I can about this instrument and play it and make patches it as well.
I'm really happy I invested in it."

Oberheim TEO-5 Factory Sound Library. Banks 1-2. (No Talking)

video upload by The Sail & The Gun

"I had the chance to mess around with this lovely little Oberheim TEO-5 and thought you guys might want to see it in action. I focused on the factory patches in this video. There are infinite ways to tailor each patch with the plethora of buttons, knobs Ect... I tried to be simple and demonstrate the basic tones. It's real easy to float off into space cadet land with this one. Haha. Let me know if you'd like more with the Overheim in the future!"

The Center for Haptic Audio Interaction Research Introduces ILSE

video upload by The Center for Haptic Audio Interaction Research

via The Center for Haptic Audio Interaction Research

"Ilse the Eurorack synth voice in one DIY module is making warm but harsh Berlin Techno / Surgeon style stabs.

Ilse is an elegantly minimal, yet fully functional synthesizer voice in a compact 10 HP Eurorack module. The only thing you need to let it meow is a CV source to trigger its 1V/Oct frequency input (or a MIDI to CV converter and a MIDI sequencer) . Because it has a low part count it is ideal for Eurorack beginners or entry-level DIY projects.

Ilse is named after a cat, living in the legendary “Villa” in Weimar, Germany. The “Villa” was a place where a community lived and came together. Many underground concerts and parties took place here before the house got sold, renovated, and the mayor moved in. We created the graphics on the aluminum face-plate in her memory. Ilse (the synth) makes great acid sounds, so it was only logical to illustrate a cat tripping. Turn the knobs to make her look around or roll her eyes.

Ilse is designed to be affordable, easy to build, yet flexible, and feature rich. It is a synthesizer voice for your Eurorack, but can even be driven without a rack using two 9V batteries (not included).

Ilse is fully open source (KiCad schematic and layout is available in a git repository) and inspired by Syntherjack’s single-chip synthesizer Totoro. Check out his website with nice explanations, e.g. on the filter (we use the same filter on Ilse). We extended the design for external voltage control on filter, oscillators and LFO. Unlike Totoro, Ilse is designed around a unique oscillator design, which integrates the exponential conversion directly into the oscillator core. This results in an efficient circuitry saving you build time, parts and costs.

PCB and face-plate are manufactured in the EU. Kitting was done by our friends from Befaco in Barcelona. Complete assembly manual can be found in our forum.
