DBK Unique rebadged LEM Bit 99

via this auction

LEM Bit 99? Anyone know the relation between LEM and Crumar?

Update via urge in the comments:
"From your own site Matrix:knows his synths): [yep... stuff oozes in and out all the time.. It's why I created this blog, I just forget to actually use it sometimes. :)
that said...]

"It's a rebadged LEM Bit 99:
http://www.synrise.de/history/advertises/advert_005.jpg

...which itself is a rebadged Crumar BIT 99.

some insider info:

LEM is/was a subsidiary of General Electro Music, Italy (more known as GEM) and I'm pretty sure they bought the rights from Crumar to re-release the BIT 99 (under the LEM brand) when the Crumar company ceased to exist around the mid-to-late '80's.

Around the same time as this, Gem would buy the ELKA company (another well-known Italian manufacturer of musical instruments) which was owned by the other Crucianelli brother, namely Piero Crucianelli.
(Piero was brother to Mario Crucianelli who owned Crumar). '"

Lunetta DIY Modulars Inspired by Stanley Lunetta

You can find more info on Lunetta on the electro-music.com Lunetta forum. The following are two shots from the Let's See Your Lunetta! thread.

The top is a proposed system from Adam-V and the bottom is from synthmonger. They are just examples of what you can do with DIY modular systems. Not only can you customize systems to meet your sonic palette but you can of course completely customize the look and feel of your modular.

Be sure to check out the forum for more including sound samples.

Elbow - Powder Blue Cover on Tenori-on / Casio / Glock

Hello you. There is a reason why I covered this song, check out the blog on the above website to find out...

Also check out the Batgirl-style leap at the beginning of the video (I STILL haven't worked out how to edit properly) and the inability to play a simple glock. Those music lessons at primary school clearly paid off.

The Tenori-on here is brought to you in association with The Green Lady."

Modular Synthesizer Pictures on electro-music.com

I haven't posted on the thread in a while. Quite a few nice modular shots like this one have gone up since then. You can find the thread on electro-music.com here. Pics of modulars and their descriptions.

Pictured here is an Aries modular in custom case from kkissinger.

Regarding the green buttons:
"When I upgraded the Aries to nine VCOs, it became apparent that I would need a LOT of patch cords just to support the routine patching of control voltages and gate/triggers from the keyboards to the VCOs. Additionally, the synth has two VCFs and a Phaser/Flanger that would often track along with the VCOs. The solution to this situation was the green buttons." You can find more info on the thread.

EMS Synthi A with DK-1 Keyboard

Updated images for this auction. Click on each for the full size shot.

"This is something special! A good looking Synthi A from the Electronic Music Studios in London. Both the Synthi and the keyboard are recently serviced and there are a some very nice modifications on this one! The following modifications have been performed by a pro synth tech:

Osc-sync 2&3, filter keyb follow, filter slew/unslew, filter 18/24 dB. Also new internal trimmers and elco's have been installed. Oscillators 1 & 2 have the temperature compensation mod to make them more stable. These are the same mods as performed at EMS London. The 3 black (Serge) knobs: 2 are the sync-switches for the OSCs, the one near the filter controls the keyboard follow of the filter. Left of and above the Cutoff knob are the toggles for filter slew/unslew en 18/24dB"

Modified Yamaha CS01 CS-01 Analog Synth

YouTube via rolandsh1000
"This is a brief video demo of a modified Yamaha CS-01 Mk1 battery-powered analog synth. I'm not going through the internal speaker here, but rather using the line-out to a Roland MicroCube amp.

The mods are:
1) expanded resonance and continuous control of the resonance
2) VCA drone mode

Except for the fact that the breath controller will no longer work on this unit (how many folks actually use it anyway?), both are 'non-destructive' mods, which means you can return to stock functionality if you want.

The 12dB low-pass filter on the CS-01 isn't terribly stable at high resonances, which is probably why Yamaha kept the stock setting to be a bit tame.

I make some odd comments here: why am I calling the footages "high sounds?" Please ignore some of the rambling!"

Udu Drum treatment 2 added overdrive

YouTube via RothHandle
"Yesterday I started working a new track with the ever so talented Rhys Marsh. The track I am working has a slightly indian or middle eastern feel so I brought some of the percussion instruments that would fit into that sonic environment...But. to create an edgier and possibly more modern feel I decided to do some treatments on the Udu drum...which turns out to be the base of the verse rhythm.

If you are curious about the studio and the music that is recorded there please stroll by

Jomox XBase09 Xrom test

Jomox XBase09 Xrom test from Tyler Corbett on Vimeo.
"In the XBase09, the HiHat, Rim, Clap, Ride and Crash are samples stored as 8 bit data on a chip. Xrom is a circuit that replaces this chip and adds four times the memory. There are four sample banks available which can be selected by holding the SHIFT/FUNC button while pressing ENTER one to four times. What samples are on the extensions? The choice is yours! Samples can be loaded over MIDI Sysex - you create your own sample banks. Want a TR-808, TR-606 or RZ1? No problem: load the samples into your XBase09 and push the ENTER & SHIFT buttons one to four times (depends on desired bank number). Done!

Using the converter software, audio files can be converted into the Sysex format and then sent to the XBase09 using a MIDI software like MIDI-OX for PC or SysExLibrarian for Mac.

Lenghth of the samples:
Closed HiHat & Rimshot: 182ms @ 44.1 kHz

Open HiHat & Clap: 557ms @ 44.1 kHz

Ride & Crash: 742ms @ 44.1 kHz

The lenghth is adapted automatically by the software depending on the selected sample. Files that are too long are cut at the end, those that are too short are extended with silence. It is an advantage to cut the samples and adjust the volume using a software like Wavelab or alike."

Syndrum CM

via this auction

auction details:
"The Syndrum analog drum synthesizer was developed by Joe Pollard and Mark Barton back in the 1970's. Eventually their company Pollard Inc. gave way to Research Development Systems, Inc. who manufactured the Syndrum CM.

Although the Syndrum is capable of many different sounds, the one that caught on was that descending "dooooooom" as heard on "Poor Pitiful Me" by Linda Rondstat and "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty. I used it to create my own custom Kick and Tom drum samples which I used separately or mixed in to augment the sound of real drums."

Yamaha DX5

via this auction

Not the best shots, but you don't see these often.

"Rare 76-key Yamaha DX-5 from 84 or 85. Has the power of two DX7s in one. You can do a single voice, or layer two or split. Has separate outputs for each voice. Has a large back-lit LCD and more on-surface buttons for editing than a normal DX7."

The auction states "basically the same as a $3,000 DX1 without the extra 150 lbs of wood and lights." The lights that display the algorithms on the DX1 are pretty nice though... See this post and this post.
