"We have had some serious rainstorms lately. And this inspired me to record this cover.

I played the melody on Yamaha HE-8 and Technics SX-C600 organs while the rhytm comes from a Roland CR-1000. The Roland JX-8P synthesizer and Yamaha PSS-12 mini keyboard also played a small part in this."

mike huckaby / maschine triggering the gotharman demoon

YouTube via mikehuckaby | August 17, 2010

"This is a basic demonstration of how Maschine can trigger your external gear. The maschine controller is quite useful in many situations. Im going to get a lot of use from this. The gotharman demoon is a limited S Y N T H from Denmark with no more than 100 made. Its extremely limited. I am in discussion with the company about making presets, and a custom " Mike Huckaby Gotharman Demoon version" of this S Y N T H. Stay tuned..."

Flight of Harmony Infernal Noise Machine

via this auction

"These rarely pop-up on the 2nd hand market and I'm assuming if you're looking at this you probably know what it is. If not, it's basically an experimental musicians wet dream. Total cacophony and loads of CV control. It excels at drones, percussion oriented stuff and just outright noise =) All in a very attractive package. These run well above what I'm asking here. $666, last time I checked.

trouby modular - LED FUZZ

trouby modular - masterclock generator

via this auction
"This device is dedicated to give a clock signal to sequencers, beatboxes or what a clock needs.

Outputs:
twice quaver, semiquaver, semisemi quaver and a triple Start/Stop level.

Handling:
look at the table below for your desired tempo and select the 2 digit values with the 2 rotary switches - tempo based on semiquaver. Then press START to keep out clock pulses, the beat LED will flash.

Technical:
- clock pulses: DIN Sync compatible, 1ms wide 4V TTL voltage
- Start/Stop: Stop=0, Start=1 - like the GO signal for the DotCom sequencer.
- It's not a 555 inside - it gets it's precision by a quartz oscillator and contains 3 divider stages, 1 programmable.

Cabinet hint:
the bpm table is a blind plate.
For the curetronic cabinet, the masterclock module doesn't fit at right or left border - keep the bpm table beside this.
The photo doesn't show the proto itself, the front is direct-printed (haven't a camera)."

- cleaning the in/outputs
- cleaning/replacing of the faders
- installing a new Nicad backup battery
- enlarge the sequencer capacity to 43,000 notes
- installing a new 240 V. power unit
- installing SMPTE reader and generator card (required for midi sync/clock in)
- Besides the 40 K.ram memory that was already available in this Linn9000, Bruce added a 68K static RAM memory expansion. I also transferred an other 128 K.ram card into the Linn9000 so now the total is 236 K. ram memory in total.
- installing the latest 7.09. software. Some of the many features are as follow:

On screen editing features such as Event and Global edit (note, velocity, duration, tuning, hi hat decay and erase), two types of punch (manual or programmable), recording all controllers such as MIDI volume etc., event chase, MIDI drum note assignment, copy individual tracks or drums, merge and replace, Time shift of notes and drum events, re-timing correction of individual drums or tracks after recording, 156 steps of drum tuning recordable during the sequence, MIDI System Exclusive recording for keyboard sounds, sample editing (truncate, reverse and fade), drum solo and mute, better and faster erase and many more.

Besides all these incredible features, the Linn9000 has an installed sampleboard (A/D converter) to load and record samples into the Linn9000. In this way you can load the recorded samples you want to use for your music project. Also 2 extra trigger input cards are installed!! So there are 12 trigger inputs you can use

Macbeth M5N

via this auction
"Word got out that Macbeth was to run M5s that had a few changes- notably the panel colour... There have been some refinements in this design of the M5N instrument including yet further tightening of the of the transistor based Envelope Generators- on the 'FAST' setting- the Attack/Decay/Release parameters have been shortened by some milliseconds to produce our 'snappiest' envelopes to date. On the contrary- the 'SLOW' setting has these same parameters generating constants of up 5 minutes in rise and fall times...great for slow evolving ambient movements... Both Filters have been subject to far greater signal to noise ratios providing clean and equal outputs due to improved output stages using a combination of different parts...

Steel housing with three VCOs each with Subosc, Sync function and diverse Waveforms,
Ext. In,
Lag processor,
Two LFOs,
S&H,
24dB Filter,
12dB Filter,
VCA,
Noise,
Ringmodulation,
Panning module and diverse connection possibilities + Spring Reverb!
60 Dials and Switches,
minimum 62 partly self-switching patch sockets
no midi."

According to the auction details, this is the M5N featured in this TRASH_AUDIO Synth Meet 3 video.

WIARD "the Mixolator"

via this auction

"The Wiard modules form an integrated analog modular synthesizer system. They are intended to be used as a set. There is no problem interfacing them to existing equipment, but they are designed to provide a synergistic set of functions when used together. The designs incorporate virtually every operating feature from every modular designed to this point. In addition, quite a few new features have been developed that are not available from any other system. Many features have been taken from dance music technology and married with features from the avant-garde.

The "Super VCA" developed for the Wiard -- the Mixolator -- is a switchable two or four quadrant multiplier. Four quadrant multiplication is also call "balanced modulation" or "ring modulation"

This module contains two identical units. It begins with a high quality DC coupled dual input VCA with individual volume controls (labeled X1 and X2). A "Y" input and output are included so that any combination of mixing, panning, crossfading, gain control, phase inversion and ring modulation are possible. The voltage control curve of each VCA is smoothly pannable from linear to logarithmic response. The output of the each VCA is displayed on a four LED VU meter.

The Mixolator module contains:

* Two Multi-function circuits that provide VCA, crossfade, seque and balanced modulator functions
* A jack multiple

WIARD " Woggle Bug "

via this auction

"From the WIARD.COM website:
'The newest module in the Wiard system is the Woggle Bug. The Woggle Bug is an utterly unique module that produces complex random voltages and tones. It reproduces the set of random voltages available from the original Buchla Model 265 "Source of Uncertainty" module. This long out of production module is representative of the most musical random voltage generators produced in the first "Golden Age" of modular synthesizers.

The Woggle Bug adds 4 permanently coupled audio VCOs to the random voltage outputs. Through a design trick, the single mechanical module contains the equivalent functionality of 18 electrical modules. Obviously, all the patch points cannot be brought out to the front panel.

The modules are permanently patched into a unique arrangement of two identical "Woggle Bugs" and their "Child Tones". Each Woggle Bug has 3 control voltage inputs, 4 control voltage outputs and 5 audio outputs. Child tones are the ring modulated outputs of the two Woggle Bug "parents".

Modular Formats on Ebay Update & Send Your Auction Items In

See the Modular section on the right under MORE STUFF. Links now include Eurorack, Frac Rack, Modcan / Cynthia, Moog / Dotcom, Serge, Buchla, and Wiard. There are RSS feeds for each so you can sub to them if you want to get notified when new items go up. Note each query has it's own little quirks to filter the garbage out. Modcan / Cynthia is based on the query term Modcan as adding the term Cynthia brings up way too many non-synth items to filter out otherwise. If you are listing an item in this format, make sure it contains Modcan. As for Wiard, you'll notice it does not include Malekko Eurorack. For that see Eurorack. Wiard, Buchla and Serge include the term modular. If I don't include it a ton of non related items come up. Unfortunately these two Wiard modules do not show up in my query because they do not include the term modular. The only way I was able to filter the rest out was by adding Buchla to the query, but it doesn't make sense to require Buchla for all Wiard listings.

Anyway, if you want to be listed, be sure you to include the key terms and not the terms I filter out, and of course feel free to send your items in for a post. Just send the auction number in and I'll put it up here or on MATRIXSYNTH-B depending on the quality of the pics, rarity of the item, and/or interesting bits of history. Note this applies to everything synth, not just modular formats of course.

This should give you an idea of how it can be a little tricky to find items on Ebay. If you are looking for particular brands of synths like Moog, or anything in particular, but want to filter out all the garbage, start with the Synths on Ebay US and Synths on Ebay UK links. Bring them up and then just add the term you want to narrow things by to the query. You should get much better results than just a blanket search on Moog. Try it to see what I'm talking about.

Those interested in auction posts can follow them @matrixsynthb - all auction posts here and on MATRIXSYNTH-B get tweeted there.

And that is pretty much it at this point. As for other available modular formats, see this post. I may refine the queries in time and/or add more. If you'd like to see anything else, just email me. And remember, if you are listing an item on Ebay, send the auction number in! Note the one rule I do have is it has to be synth related and I only post a given pic once if I can help it, so once you send an item in, that's it. If you re-list and item, I'll need new pics for a new post.
