MODE MACHINES SL-1 Synthlab

video of it in action here
"The SYNTHLAB uses a 100% true analog circuitry with subtractive synthesis which is designed in a classic way. This design is not new because it started in the early 70´s with the voltage controlled modular systems. The use of the low pass filter based on the transistor cascade lets the synthlab sound very similar to the well known early Moog synthesizers.

As the SYNTHLAB has a built in MIDI interface you will find it easy to integrate into any MIDI studio setup. The SYNTHLAB also has a built in MIDI-TO-CV/GATE interface which can become very handy, when using vintage equipment. The SYNTHLAB is a hand-made true discrete analogue synthesizer built in Germany. We have used components from the 70s and 80s but also modern technology. There are no DSP´s or such built in, so the sound is true, pure and very experimental like a smal synthesizer laboratory - hence the name: SL-1 SYNTHLAB.

The setup of the SL-1 is very easy-to-use if you have played around with other anlogue synthesizers. Every parameter has its own pot for controlling and playing with the modulation and everything can be controlled manually in real-time. The controls of the modules are diveded into groups on the frontplate so they can be visually seperated for easier use. For basic setup you have 2 VCO´s and an external audioinput. The selected signal can be routed through the VCF and VCA before it reaches the audiooutput. For each VCF and VCA you have an own envelope generator. Additonally you have various modulation routing possibilities through the LFO´s.

Features
* 2 x VCO´s ( 2 waveforms - saw & pulse)
* 1 x VCF (low pass filter 24dB - Moog cascade)
* 1 x VCA
* 1 x Noise
* 1 x Ringmodulator
* 1 x Suboscillator (-2 octaves)
* 2 x LFO (various waveforms and routings)
* 2 x ENV (ADSR for the VCA and AD for the VCF)
* MIDI-CV-Interface with 2 x CV and GATE
* Audio IN
* Audio OUT
* MIDI IN/THRU
* External PSU included

Technical specification
* POWER: 18V AC 1000mA (PSU included)
* Dimensions: 29.8 cm * 16.5 cm * 6 cm (11.73" * 6.5" * 2.36")
(with packaging: 36.5 cm * 23 cm * 10 cm (14.37" * 9.06" * 3.94"))
* Weight: 1.5 kg (3.31 lb)
(with packaging: 2.1 kg (4.63 lb))"

Insects Chatting via Buchla 200e

YouTube via djangosfire | Feb 26, 2011 |

"This patch started out as a test using an external Doepfer Lag module.... and blossomed into "Insects Chatting" :)

General patch notes:

1x 261e OSC w/ cross mod of Timbre & Symmetry from the MOD OSC.

250e CH 1 playing a 4x note sequence (with clock from 077 Pendulum Ratchet - Ratchet time slurred w/ CH 3 from the 250e) through the external Lag Module into the 261e Principle OSC.

266e SOU sending Fluctuating Random Voltages into the same 261e Principle OSC.

261e into a channel of the 292e Quad Dynamics Manager (Low Pass Gates) with the output split into 206e Mixer & Eventide Timefactor with slap-back delay.

The Timefactor signal sent back into another channel of the 292e with the 266e Quantized Random Voltages controlling the mix level of the incoming Timefactor

Thanks for listening/reading - djangosfire"

EXB-MOSS DSP SYNTHESIZER BOARD

via this auction

"The TRITON series, TRITON Rack and Karma Music Workstation can be expanded by the installation of the ultimate DSP tone generator --- the 6-voice MOSS (Multi-Oscillator Synthesis System) tone generator featured on the Z1. Equipped with 13 oscillator algorithms, the MOSS expansion board lets you use all synthesis methods --- PCM, analog, VPM (variable phase modulation), and physical modeling --- on a single instrument. When the MOSS tone generator is installed, 128 MOSS programs are added. You can create combination programs that use multiple MOSS timbres together with HI sounds.

MOSS (MULTI OSCILLATOR SYNTHESIS SYSTEM)

The MOSS sound generator consists of Voice, EG and LFO sections. The voice section contains two powerful oscillator blocks OSC1/OSC2 which let you combine up to two of thirteen types of oscillator algorithm (resonance, organ model, electric piano model, standard, ring modulation, VPM, brass model, reed model and more), a sub oscillator, and a noise generator. The voice section also contains a filter block featuring two multi-mode filters that cover the range from analog synth sounds to complex sounds such as the body resonance of violin or guitar, or even human voice. To this are added five EG units and four LFO units, providing a rich variety of tonal and pitch changes for each voice.

MOSS SPECIFICATIONS

Sound Source: 6 voices, 2 oscillators (max.) + sub oscillator + noise generator
Oscillator Types: 13 (Standard, Ring Modulation, Cross Modulation, Oscillator Sync, VPM (Variable Phase Modulation), Comb filter oscillator, Resonance oscillator, Organ model, Electric piano model, Brass model, Reed model, Plucked string model, Bowed string model)
Programs: 128
[* Developed under license of physical modeling patents (listed in http://www.sondius-XG.com) owned by Stanford University, USA, and by Yamaha Corporation.]"

burgler alarm keybored analog sequencer synth

YouTube via puffhandy | Feb 25, 2011 | 0 likes, 0 dislikes

"This was formerly a General Electric "zonar burglar alarm". I found it at my local angel view thrift store and loved the fake woodgrain alarm clock/speaker cabinet looking box so I bought it for a whopping $1.99. Incendentally I also bought a very nice vintage tea pot which I needed very badly to go with my new coffee press. Anyhoo, I got it home to my delight it was perfect for this vactrol (opto-iso) thing that I had been thinking about making. After worked for about 14 hours designing and making this this beast and then subsequently I spent about 100 hours playing with it getting different sounds and enjoying it fully trust me. The seven code buttons on top are working keybored keys for a main oscillator sync'd to another oscillator that's pitch is detirmented by a vactrol with the LED side connected to the six on/off/on switches on top for a sequencer LFO effect that is F'N crazy!!! I would have added more LEDs, butit would change the sound and I love the creepy sc-fi with a horror twist that this thing has. email me for the schematic at puffhandy3000@yahoo.com and look for this item on etsy and ebay."

Vintage '76 Univox JR5 Drum Machine

via this auction
"Vintage Univox JR5 Drum Machine, Beatbox-1976! Hey, Depeche Mode used one just like this! This is a classic of electronic music and a rare find. The Univox JR5 was introduced in the 70s and is one of the originals (they later became Korg and this was also the Korg Pee Wee later on). I don't have an old speaker jack which is what this requires so I can'r hear it, but the light does flash to the downbeat as was advertised.

"Has push buttons in black & red depending upon which beat you choose Beats or tempos are as follows: Ballad/Waltz; Cha Cha/ Mambo; Latin Beat/ Bossanova; Rock 1/Rock 2; Polka/Foxtrot" I believe there are 17 separate beats when settings used in combination."

"Watch 720HD full screen to see the waveform names and what I'm doing in detail. Prototype TouchOSC template controlling M-Audio Venom using The Missing Link to translate OSC to MIDI. Only one oscillator on the Venom is heard in a latched arpeggio. This page in TouchOSC allows you to select the waveform via toggle buttons and via a slider at the bottom. All 94 waveforms are available. Be sure to see Part 2. The purpose of these videos is primarily to showcase the editor controlling the Venom. It sounds much better live. The audio in on my Canon Rebel T2i isn't cutting it. But yes, this can be one aggressive sounding synth."
