Published on Jan 10, 2017 Genshi Media Group

"This is just a short, quick sneak preview of my newly arrived MODAL Craft Synth (the only Modal synth I can afford at the moment.) I have it going through the Eventide H9 for effects and then into a tc electronics Ditto X4 looper pedal. No other effects or post processing involved."

Genshi Media Group Live Performance at Ford Food & Drink PDX - 08/06/2016

Published on Aug 7, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"::| Dedicated to Benjamin Dennis Myers: Nov. 26, 1985 - Jul. 31, 2016 |::

Captured with my new GoPro camera (with both camera audio as well as direct audio from my sub-mixer using the Zoom H4n) my live performance at Ford Food & Drink for Lifelike Family's monthly "Abstracted" event.

In the first half of the video I unfortunately was having pretty major technical issues with the tc electronic Ditto X4 looper pedal... the second loop channel wouldn't record, then it wouldn't playback unless I slightly moved the volume knob, then it wouldn't sync properly) so a lot of fumbling around at first.

Also, I didn't really get a chance to work this piece out, as we had a soul crushing tragedy in our family this previous week... completely drained us.

The first half was improvised live looping with the Korg Minilogue into a Strymon El Capistan, then into the Ditto X4 which then went to a Strymon blueSky. The second half featured the Make Noise 0-Coast with additional Eurorack modules by Make Noise, Mutable Instruments, Intellijel Designs, Noise Engineering, Sputnik Modular and additional sequencing from the Arturia Beatstep Pro."

KORG ARP 2600FS // Feedback Exploration with Make Noise Mimeophon

Published on Apr 17, 2020 Genshi Media Group

"::| WARNING!!! EXTREME FREQUENCIES AHEAD! A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES ARE STILL RECOMMENDED WITH CAUTION |::

This is an exploration of extreme frequencies and feedback with the Korg ARP 2600FS. All of the distorted beefy sounds are from patching the VCA Output of the ARP 2600 into its own Pre-Amplifier and back to the VCA. Later on, all of the High-Frequency feedback and Resonator and Karplus-Strong type sounds are from the Make Noise Mimeophon. Next time I'll try to get a second camera on that so you can see what's going on..."

Moog Mother 32 - Quick Test by Genshi Media Group

Moog Mother 32 - My Very First Quick Test Published on Oct 8, 2015 Genshi Media Group

"This is just a quick, getting to know you, first test of the Moog Mother-32. I came up with this patching and sequence literally 10 minutes after unboxing. This was done in one take, no multi-tracking, and every sound you hear is coming from the Mother-32 in real time, including the percussion. With all of the patch points, along with the noise source, you can get very interesting percussion elements going at the same time as both your Saw and Pulse wave voices... not bad for a "one oscillator" synth! (a touch of reverb was added from Valhalla VintageVerb.) Now I'm just waiting for my 3-Tier Rack to be delivered so I can add my other two Mother-32s... which means more and better videos coming real soon!"

Weird Jam on the Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

video upload by Genshi Media Group

"::| TO HEAR THE FULL RANGE OF FREQUENCIES AND STEREO EFFECTS, A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED |::

Just a weird little jam I did on the Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II Sampler Composer using my own samples I made from banging on things around the house..."

Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II First Test // Sampling Session

video upload by Genshi Media Group

"I love this thing! It's so easy to sample things from around the house with the built-in microphone. The little improvised jam at the end is pretty sloppy as I didn't know where I was going with it, but hopefully this video shows how easy it is to put together something on-the-fly!

That said, the 'Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II 64 MB Sampler Composer' is one of the worst names for an instrument ever..."

WALDORF QUANTUM // My Epic Particle Collider + 2 More of My Custom Presets

Published on Dec 14, 2018 Genshi Media Group

Genshi Media Group WALDORF QUANTUM videos.

"::| TO HEAR THE FULL RANGE OF FREQUENCIES, A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED |::

So at the end of my previous video, I created my first preset on the Waldorf Quantum using just the "Classic" Waveforms on each of the three Oscillators. In this video, I dug a little deeper, using my own samples on two of the three presets. Details are as follows:

1. "My Epic Particle Collider" -
Osc 1= Particle with my own custom-made sample
Ocs 2 = Particle with my own custom-made sample
Ocs 3 = Particle with my own custom-made sample
Internal FX = Compressor, EQ, Chorus, Reverb

2. "I Will Synthesize You" -
Osc 1= Wavetable using "Talk" feature (Text to Speech)
Osc 2= Waveform using "8 Kernels" plus Warping of the Waveform
Internal FX = Phaser, Delay, Reverb

3. "My Firefly" -
Osc 1= Particle with my own custom-made sample
Osc 2= Particle with my own custom-made sample
Internal FX = Reverb, EQ

Again, I'm still just learning to navigate around this synth, and haven't even scratched the surface of what all it can do yet."

The Future of Musical Devices? ROLI BLOCKS! (with Noise app & Omnisphere 2)

Published on Nov 7, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"::| A GOOD PAIR OF HEADPHONES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IN ORDER TO HEAR THE WIDE RANGE OF FREQUENCIES |::
I had wanted to do a nice long review of the Roli Lightpad Blocks, but I was having a ton of technical issues with my new GoPro cameras (lost a half hours worth of footage) so I just cranked out this short quick jam session in frustration (I've also been running on only two hours of sleep lately.)

I show the Lightpad Block with the Roli Noise app for iOS, and then demonstrate how it works with a soft synth like Omnisphere 2 in Ableton Live. I wasn't able to get the 5D Multidimensional Polyphonic Expression happening in Omnisphere, but later researched it and found that it is possible, I just need to setup Omnisphere the proper way in order to achieve this. So, next video, I may go more in-depth with this if there is interest, and I'm also looking into how I can use the Blocks to control my Eurorack kit.

Oh, and I forgot to mention in the video... when I registered my Block, Roli's site gave me an unlock code for a full version of Cycling '74's Max 7! How cool is that!

Korg Minilogue + Electrix WarpFactory Vocoder Demo

Published on Oct 21, 2016 Genshi Media Group

Demo starts after 2:50.

"Trying out the Korg Minilogue with the Electrix WarpFactory Vocoder (going through a Strymon blueSky pedal for reverb.) Also, first time actually talking in my video... also, shaved all of my hair off! (because who wants to watch a guy with a ponytail.) Vocoded lyrics:

Here we are in the Spaceship of your mind
And we'll see you in your dreams
And we'll ride the Galactic Beam
To Outer Space…

Make Noise Morphagene - First Test (in two parts)

Published on Apr 15, 2017 Genshi Media Group

"This is a first quick test of the wonderfully deep, Make Noise Morphagene. I haven't even had a chance to look at the manual yet, as I was just too excited to try this thing out. So here is what you'll find in this video:

Part One: I have the 4MS Spectral Multiband Resonator as the source for the Morphagene, which in turn is going into the Mutable Instruments Clouds. Everything is modulated with the Make Noise Richter Wogglebug and the Xaoc Devices Batumi Quad LFO.

Part Two: The source for the Morphagene is a 'Film Score' I created specifically for the Morphagene using various VST instruments in Ableton Live. Again Morhpagene is going into Clouds.

Buchla Music Easel Tests - Day 2 (in three parts)

Published on Feb 2, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"My second day with my friend's Buchla Music Easel. After some confusion with it on the first day, it all finally came together on this second day of exploration. One note, I didn't use the Music Easel's built-in Spring Reverb because it was really muddy sounding, so I added a touch of delay and reverb using VSTs; info provided in the video. Science Patrol Live Performance for Sonic Lodge 1 - PDX

Published on Dec 27, 2015 Genshi Media Group

"My live performance as 'Science Patrol' for Sonic Lodge 1 - An Evening of Ambient/Drone Performances. Despite some technical glitches before and during my performance, it went pretty well for what it was. Unfortunately we weren't able to capture direct audio, and this was all shot on an iPhone in low light, so, not the best video quality either. Stay tuned at the end for a few seconds of the other performers of the evening. Equipment used for my performance:

• Moog Mother-32 (x3)
• Kilpatrick Audio Phenol
• Korg SQ-1 Sequencer (for the Phenol)
• My own genshi.lab Banana Jack to 3.5mm Converter Box
• Eventide H9
• Strymon blueSky Reverberator
• Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo"
