Extreme Slow Order - Simultaneous multi-event sound collage

Published on Sep 28, 2015 A Box In The Sea

"This is a continuation from my last piece. Because the Linnstrument offers so much sonic control and expression, I find myself completely rethinking how I create a patch. I wanted to further explore simultaneous multi-event generation but this time only with the Linnstrument. I'm using the Animodule Gate_Mod plus the SSF URA to help decide when I trigger a gate, 1. if it gets passed to the Gate_Mod and 2. how long to delay the gate. The result triggers an envelope/VCA combo being fed by the Nebulae (whose files are being cycled by the Phosgene's EOD output). All melodic sounds are coming from Braids in FM, TTVV and FFFF modes and processed through the Erbe Verb, Clouds, Three Sisters, PGH Filter, Red Panda Particle, Seppuku delay and Montreal Assembly Count to Five.

I'm using the Linnstrument in split mode where one side is CC faders (so I can manipulate multiple parameters at once) and the other side is notes. I'm also using the Linn with the Machinedrum to trigger the 16 samples I've loaded.

I prerecorded the main melody into sampler which I'm playing to the previously recorded Braids sounds. I'm getting 2 things out of doing this 1. I suck at multitrack recording and I'm trying to wrap my head around how I can use it for what I'm doing and 2. I knew there would be a natural delay and missed notes because I don't record on a grid and I wanted that overlapping sonic crisscross/collision of notes."

Deckards Dream w Linnstrument (Test 1)

"Just a very, very, VERY rough/quick riff with my new Deckard's Dream synth, using a Linnstrument as controller (in MPE mode) and processed with a touch of reverb from a Meris Mercury 7. DD is in Sustain 1 mode, with aftertouch triggering the LFO modulation and speed.

Still getting used to the Linnstrument, hence the roughness in some of the pitch bends. But, the basic idea is there."

Stereo Poly-Expressive Ambient Music (w/ Linnstrument + MicroMonsta + Bastl Thyme) #TTNM

"Three takes of polyphonic, expressive ambient music fun with the Linnstrument and friends. MORE INFO BELOW :)

The greenish, middle MicroMonsta patch uses aftertouch to control the filter cutoff frequency of the sound all the way from zero, so by gentle pressing a key, one can smoothly fade the sound in and out. The timbre/Y axis adds ring modulation which makes it very crunchy and wild at times, together with the internal chorus FX.

The pinkish and orange patches are panned to the left and right a little bit respectively and only subtly use expressive controls apart from the obvious polyphonic pitch slides.

The Bastl Thyme adds delay and roominess to the sounds."

Dreadbox Nymphes and Linnstrument Baby Dinosaur

video upload by riotbell

"Another Nymphes improvisation with the Linnstrument and Microcosm. Don't know why I called the piece Baby Dinosaur, but that's just what the track was titled in my Logic folder.

Hope these aren't getting to repetitive or self-indulgent. But uploading the videos is really encouraging me to practice with the Linnstrument, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of Youtube content featuring the Nymphes and MPE.

Thanks for listening!"

Futuresonus Parva analog poly-synth with LinnStrument demo

Published on Aug 26, 2016 Geert Bevin

"As a Kickstarter backer I've had the Parva for several months, but there were a few problems with the firmware that prevented me from fully using it. Today, Brad from Futuresonus released firmware update v0.51, fixing everything that was important to me.

So here is a demo video with LinnStrument. I've set it up so that the x-axis controls per-note pitch and the y-axis per-note filter cutoff, I'm not using the z-axis. The LinnStrument is connected directly to the Parva's USB MIDI host port, which also provides power. The audio is recorded through my Metric Halo ULN-8 audio interface without any sound processing besides normalisation.

The Parva has eight independent analog voices that can be configured in a multi with a dedicated MIDI channel for each voice. Each voice can play a different preset, but I'm using the same preset for all voices here to allow for per-note expression. In this multi, each MIDI channel is also sent to two voices, creating a unison sound, while still having full control over 4 independent notes.

I think it sounds pretty great!

LinnStrument ThumbJam demo (bus-powered by iPad Air)

Published on Oct 16, 2014 Geert Bevin

"Last night I made a lot of progress adapting the LinnStrument firmware so that it runs off of bus power from my iPad Air. This is a demo with ThumbJam's Bass Bowed sound, played with note-per-channel MIDI, recorded straight into Auria over Inter-App Audio.

The LinnStrument bus-powered mode is still experimental, but there's a good chance it will end up in the next firmware update. Note that this will only work with iOS devices that have lightning connectors, 30-pin connectors don't provide enough power."

Moog Subharmonicon Granular Ambient Bells with Soma Cosmos and Linnstrument

video upload by riotbell

"This is a video featuring the Subharmonicon being controlled via midi by the Linnstrument. One of my favorite things about the Subharmonicon is the way oscillators can mix to provide some very rich bell and chime like timbres.

The Soma Cosmos is providing granulated repeats that slowly evolve into a droning pad over the course of the video.

Forgive my awkward reach, on the Linnstrument, I had trouble setting up an overhead camera and had to pace about to reach things.

Thanks for listening!"
