Octatrack Meets the XOR NerdSEQ: 24 Patterns of Pure Nostalgic Bliss

video by EZBOT

"This was my live performance for Basement State on 6/4/21. I built a template for the Octatrack that was a mix of live resampling/fx-box and a typical drum machine. The music is very cheerful, someone in chat said the music was an "anti-depressant." I played with Red Means Recording, Project 32, and Herr Shield. Amazing performances all around. If you want to know more about my setup, thought process, and writing style for this performance please visit my Patreon for in depth discussions on this performance and others.

Summary:
NerdSeq sequenced the modular voices (24 patterns)
Octatrack sent clock and transport to NerdSeq.
Octatrack Sequenced drums and performed resampling/fx (22 patterns, 3 parts, and 2 banks)"

Morphagene as a Stepping Stone of the Creative Process

video by MAKEN0ISE

"In this video, Hélène Vogelsinger uses the Morphagene in combination with her voice to create the foundation of a whole piece.

She starts with a simple rhythmic and tonal vocal pattern, that then evolves into deep and grainy textures.

Sequenced Jam #192 (w/ Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio)

Rheyne

"Some more experiments with lighting controlled by the modular synth. The main synth voices are from a Steady State Fate ZPO through a Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio, and an Instruo Ts-L through a Strymon Magneto. Bass is from a Roland SYS-510, the piano is from a 1010music Bitbox Micro, and percussion is from an SSF Entity BDS, Noise Engineering LIP, and the Bitbox Micro. All sequencing was done with the NerdSEQ.

All audio was sent to Ableton through a pair of outs on an Expert Sleepers ES-9 to trigger the lights with an Enttec DMXIS. The piano was played through the outs on the ES-9 and into the Bitbox Micro, and is triggered manually as a stereo sample. Recorded in one take with no overdubs."

Introducing The Bastl Midilooper

Bastl Instruments

Price excluding tax: 239€ - comes to $283.44. Pics with press release below.

"Midilooper is a device that listens to MIDI messages (control information about notes, dynamics and other parameters) and loops them in a similar way an audio looper would loop pieces of audio. However, loops of MIDI messages remain in the control domain, which means a lot of other processes can happen on top of them - timbre modulation, envelope adjustments etc.

"Bastl is more than excited to announce the Midilooper! Rather than being a sequencer, it is a device inspired by audio looper style workflow with a really fast, performative, single gesture interface.
Looping is a blazing fast way of music making and looping in the control signal domain is a key feature that allows for all remaining parameters of your device to be tweaked and modulated on top of the looped sequence... or MIDI CC looped!

Midilooper has been in development for over 3 years and several iterations of the control interface and connectivity have been extensively tested within the context of a live performance. It has the ability to bring a live setup or a studio to new life and make you explore your gear in a refreshing, hands–on manner.
Midilooper can be synchronised to MIDI or analog clock and it can also run on its own (tap tempo/free running). It has 3 voices that can each be assigned to a different MIDI channel, allowing it to control and loop 3 individual units of gear. Each voice can be individually recorded, muted, overdubbed, or cleared.

Midilooper also offers some basic processing of the recorded information: transposition, velocity locking and shifting, quantisation, shuffle, humanisation (random variations of velocity), adjusting the length of the loop, or doubling and halving of playback speed.

In addition, it features CV and trigger inputs for seamless integration with modular synths: reset, retrigger, velocity, and transpose. It can also be controlled with foot pedals.

Stay tuned to Bastl Instruments YouTube channel for more walkthrough videos. Price excluding tax: 239€

Wavetable fun with 4VOX-Flame/Preset-Polyend/Nerdseq/Quadigy-Klavis

Dziam Bass

"Waves, Wavetable, Wavetables and amazing module 4 VOX -Quad Polyphonic Wavetable VCO from Flame instruments
So ..why I love wavetbales you have in this movie, it allows me to have a larger spectrum of sounds than the analog oscillators themselves.

Here the Preset from Polyend module changes wavetables for one VCO from 4vox. in one VCO I used 2 voices, second vco to bass sound.🙃😀

Preset module also changes slightly the envelope from Quadigi from Klavis to this added drums as you hear.
Everything sequenced by Nerdseq from Xor electronics .

Flame has many options because you have built-in LFO in this module, and rewriting modulation for CV 1 and CV 2 but in the menu you can set for example CV 1 for changing octaves, which gives you plenty of possibilities.

You have also sclaes, chords ,semitones and detune or portamento.👌👌🔥🔥

Each VCO in 4 VOX has its own 4 voices and in each voice you have another 64 wavetables which can also be used for power sound or turn-in CV for the built-in MORPH function.

This is a damn extensive module and I described only one of the VCO uses, here you have as many as 4 in total 16 polyphonic voices.👈 😁

Thanks for watching and have a wonderful day !!"

New XOR Electronics NerdSEQ CV16 Expander

Published on Feb 24, 2020 XOR Electronics

"A small promo video about the new 'More CV 16' expander for the NerdSEQ Eurorack sequencer.
It adds 16 more CV outputs which are totally integrated into the sequencer.

The CV outputs can be either pitch or note scaled (in pairs of 0..10 Volt or -5/+5 Volt). Beside being outputs for notes or pitches with glide settings for each output, it also contains several modulators which can be routed to each output (pure or adding to the current voltage):
8 ASR (Attack Sustain Release) Envelopes with Attack, Release and Sustain settings for each Envelope.
8 LFO with the following waveforms: Sinus, Triangle, Sawtooth, Ramp, Noise and Random (randomly mixing through the waveforms).

The modulators can be manipulated in their stage and attributes from each sequencer step. The CV16 expander enhances the NerdSEQ with Polyphonic sequencing and recording within one or multiple tracks.

This is not a standalone product! It works only together with the NerdSEQ.

This is a very cool feature, as I showed in the movie, you have more expander More Trigger 16 you can immediately add matrix euclidean rhytms from the marked place, just enter the sounds you can add and subtract them from the marked place, it's best to see it yourself.

it is great fun and you create completely new rhythms.

Mechanical Birds At Dawn // Eurorack Qu-Bit Chord Morphagene Clouds Plaits

Published on Aug 17, 2019 Lost For Words

"uClouds in looping delay mode is taking the pattern from Plaits #2 and with varied pitch (from Marbles) and intermittent Freezing (from Maths trigger) I got these strange robotic squawks and bleeps which reminded me of a dawn chorus.

The beautiful sounding Chord v2 is playing the chords (duh) using the bank (2nd on factory) where the wave control is a low pass filter. Processed through Magneto delay to give it a thicker sound with additional pitched harmonics.

Morphagene has a pre-recorded glided note from Plaits #1 which comes in with additional noted later on.

And towards the end I send a Maths LFO to the voicing control on the Chord to get an arpeggio until fade out.

For some reason I lost some video at the end of the recording. I liked the take so went with it :)

Sequenced on NerdSeq. Mixed in WMD Performance Mixer and straight to Reaper with just ValhallaRoom reverb added in post."

Rebach-VCO-A CATCH and VCO GR11 Sub out in music

Published on May 18, 2019 Dziam Bass

"Today I have a small movie showing very nice sound from ReBach modules.
there are VCO-A and VCO GR11 two oscillators connected here.
VCO GR 11 is based on the Saw Core so Sub of GR 11 adds a powerful character creating a very nice thick sound, I also used the VC Octave Switch MSK008 -North Coast Synthsesis to raise the octave up and down to show how nicely the VCO behaves in lower and higher octaves.
Definitely Rebach puts on simple modules but also on great sound that can be easily obtained with these modules.
for this I also used the VCF-A and ADSR-A filter from Rebach in the whole voice.
Melody and beat make on Nerdseq -Xor Electronics
More information about these modules here: https://rebach.eu
Have a nice day synth guys!!!"

NerdSEQ 'More Triggers 16' Expander

Published on Apr 15, 2019 XOR Electronics

"A small introduction into the new 'More Triggers 16' expander for the NerdSEQ Eurorack sequencer. It adds 16 more Trigger/Gate outputs which are totally integrated into the sequencer."

"NerdSEQ is an 8–track Eurorack sequencer with a rich feature set, allowing you to sequence modules or MIDI compatible gear, put probabilities on probabilities, generate randomness (or, on the contrary, create and effortlessly save rigid song structures), upload & sequence samples and much more.

This software update is a major one as it elaborates on NerdSEQ’s many key capabilities and adds plenty more fun and flexibility – it is now possible to use its effective tracker–style workflow to sequence all of your external MIDI gear with per–track 4 voice polyphony across all channels. CC messages, Aftertouch, Pitchbend, Program change and NRPN are all accessible as well, and the imaginary cherry on top is that most of this can be manipulated by NerdSEQ’s Automations engine – meaning you can use its internal LFOs or external CVs for all sorts of crazy modulations and breathe some new life into your old rack synths collecting dust. All of this can be achieved with the MIDI I/O expansion.

All of this MIDI freakiness is just the start though – also out with this update is the ‘MORE TRIGGERS 16’ expander, offering 16 additional trigger/gate outs, chainable to up to 4 units/64 outputs, enough to trigger your room. On the software side, this means a super effective and simple drum matrix screen has been added and you can now set each of the six tracks per your preference – to modular, MIDI or trigger mode. The 2 sample tracks are fixed. More expanders are soon to follow, the closest one being ‘MORE CVS 16’ – we’ll let you figure out what will that one do on your own.

While these are the two most exciting and visible updates, there’s plenty more additions and improvements to the UI and functionality – color coding for tracks, track tempo dividers/multipliers and overall improvements in performance.

This free firmware update is now available on the XOR Electronics website and the More Triggers 16 expander available through its web shop and select dealers."

Piano Phase sequenced on the NerdSEQ

Published on Feb 3, 2019 XOR Electronics

"This is the well known Piano Phase originally by Steve Reich (1967) played on XOR Electronics NerdSEQ Eurorack sequencer.

It starts with the same pattern (00) playing 2 simple voices on 2 tracks. Each step of the 12 note long sequence needs 32 clock pulses to get to the next step. While playing i clone one pattern (00) into a new one (01). Pattern 01 contains now the same sequence. In Pattern 01 I change the groove setting from 32 (W) to 31 (V), so this step needs only 31 clock pulses instead of 32. You can see the decimal number right below. So now this pattern 01 on track 2 plays slightly faster than Pattern 00 on track 1.
