Moog Mavis Solo

video upload by SONICrider "Sound & Vision Lab"

"'Can Mavis replace a Mother 32?'

A while ago my Moog Mother 32 got united with the DFAM and Subharmonicon: aka the Moog Sound Studio 3 (sold 1 by 1 and now together in a customized case).

So who could replace the Mother 32, well Mavis can.....

Mavis has less features as the Mother 32, on the other hand the extra features Mavis has (sample & hold, wave shaping, morphing between waves and the modulation options) makes this module capable of almost any task.

This 'Moog Mavis Solo' is a short live captured improvisation using the Koma Elektronik 'Komplex Sequencer' as CV source for pitch and gate. The sequences has the option repeat enabled = when a step is 'mutes' the last note played repeats until a new step gets triggered, this way a sequence keeps the same length."

Moog Matriarch and Subharmonicon Generative Ambient Dusk

video upload by riotbell

"This is another generative ambient long play. I started patching in the late afternoon and let this run from sunset until dusk. This is my first attempt to pair the Matriarch with the Subharmonicon for any extended period of time. Hopefully it came out okay.

The SubH is being modulated by the Matriarch LFO and is running directly into the Matriarch through Instrument-In giving it access to both the filter and the delay.

The Matriarch is playing an accompanying 3 octave arp.

Reverb provided via Oto Bam.

Thanks for listening!"

Moog Subharmonicon with Oto Bam Cutoff Filter Exploration

video upload by riotbell

"One of my minor frustrations with the Subharmonicon is that it's hard to dynamically modulate the cutoff filter when using the synth in isolation.

I really wish the SH had an expression pedal in, because some very cool stuff can be done with filter sweeps.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The fiddling stops and the full patch plays out at around 3:30.

Thanks for listening!"

Moog Subharmonicon and Hologram Microcosm Ambient Toy Piano

video upload by riotbell

"Here's an attempt to simulate the sound of an old toy piano. Maybe a little broken, maybe a little out of tune. The patch is relatively straightforward.

I'm starting to feel like the best way to approach the Subharmonicon is to pair it with other complimentary synths and effects. Here the Microcosm is functioning less like an effects box, and a bit more like an accompanying synth supplying a gentle wash of sound.

Thanks for listening."

Moog Subharmonicon Dark Ambient

video upload by riotbell

"This is another slow ambient patch made on the Subharmonicon trying to assign all available oscillators.

Grasping at a Hans Zimmer sort of vibe, but don't know if it fully comes off.

I do wish there was a patch point for the envelope amount. Sequence 1 patched into the Filter Cutoff. Sequence 2 patched into the trigger."

Moog Subharmonicon High Resonance Patch Birds In The Well

video upload by riotbell

"This is a subharmonicon patch playing the filter by maxing the resonance and cutting the oscillators to achieve a sine wave (presumably). Both the filter and the envelope amount will have a significant effect on 'tuning' the sounds coming out of the synth.

This piece is being partially sequenced offboard via Midi, though the SH's steps are still be recognized. A longer 'bird calls' were achieved with midi input and looped via the Microcosm.

It's a weird piece, but kind of fun."

Moog Subharmonicon Ghost Ships Ambient Patch

video upload by riotbell

"I've nearly given up on the Subharmonicon at least half a dozen times. Recently dove back into it with hopes of creating some sharable patches.

I've decided to devote the next month to really delving into this beguiling little synth in hopes of learning at least some of its quirks and secrets.

This is a slow ambient patch with reverb courtesy of the Oto Bam (ambient mode with chorus engaged).

Thanks for listening!"

SubSequence | Using the Moog Subharmonicon as a sequencer.

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"One of the best features of the Moog Subharmonicon is its sequencer, providing only 2x4 notes, but with four clock dividers supporting polyrhythmic patterns that don't have obvious repeats. I think it's the most important feature that made me get one, but after playing with it for a while I really start to appreciate the sound too. it's a module that delivers instant fast food at first patch, and haute cuisine when you spend some time with it.
In the first part of the video I get lost while setting things up, so this can happen to you too! I'll try to route the sequencer CV to a quantizer (Ornament & Crime) to check if I can 'escape' the 2x4 notes and built in scales (it works!). And finally I'll hook up the MakeNoise 'Shared Museum' and drive it with the Subharmonicon's resources"

2022/07 - Korg SQ-1 and Moog Subharmonicon

video upload by Stereoping

"A song trying to bring the #Korg #SQ-1 and the #Moog #Subharmonicon together in a musical context. More or less successful :-) The Subharmonicons VCOs 1&2 are playing their sequences and are being additionally transposed by the CV outs of line 1&2 from the Korg. Two trigger clocks (16th and a rhythm) are manually 'faded' with a Befaco Morphader and advancing the Korg & Moog together. Additional players: bArp2600 (melody), TD-3, Maxikorg and Subsequent37 (Bass). Everything held together by 4 different rhythms: Volca Drum, MPC1000, Drumkid (triggering another 8bit drumbox) and the Alesis HR16 with custom EPROMs.

Right behind: a bonus track! The raw first (tape!) recording of the musical idea one week earlier. Somehow i like it better, unfortunately i could not reproduce the SQ1 and Harmonicum settings any more. Which do you prefer?"

Moog Mother-32 + Mutable Instruments Warps | and some thoughts about Mavis

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Mavis has been on all significant YouTube channels last week and I've been super impressed by the sounds coming from this little DIY starter synth. I really felt the 'gear aquisition syndrome' hitting hard. But I already own tons of modules, so I wanted to take good old Mother-32, hook it up with Warps and see how 'westcoast' it can get. I decided to skip Mavis and go for the Subharmonicon instead (coming soon) because it's very different from anything I know.

But it was tough (I had it in my shopping cart), because Mavis can add a lot to a bare table, and even more to an existing Moog 60 HP tableltop set. It's a really clever design. To give you and impression I hooked up the M-32 to 0-Coast, the 'other' tabletop westcoast starter synth from MakeNoise. I still think I'd get a Mavis when the hype is over because it adds a lot to the classic Mother and vice versa."

New Moog Mavis Semi-Modular Synth Coming in 4 Days?

[Update: full details, pics and demos here.]

Fuzzy thumbnail from the upcoming video below. I will put up a new post when it goes live if legit.

It this is real, it would be odd Moog didn't anounce and show it at NAMM.

I thought it might be the DFAM, Mother-32, or Subharmonicon but note the patch bay is on the left with lettering below. Even if you turned them upside down they wouldn't match. It's also considerably thinner and smaller. Maybe The form factor is more similar to the Werkstatt-01.

The Trademark was filed back on 2021-09-03 under:

2022/06 - Volca Harmonicon

video upload by Stereoping

"A little song with some diy-gear. Opening with the Volca Sample running the Pajen firmware which allows endless drones with AMP DECAY fully clockwise. 5 notes are mixed with an external Midicontroller. The Moog #Subharmonicon plays along running through a DIY Axoloti-based Reverb/Delay. Second part played by #Summit, #Subsequent37, #OSCar and #TD-3. The Drums are coming from an old Organ voiceboard which is triggered (and powered) by the DIY-808. Other DIY gear used: Midi-RGB-LED lamp for visual feedback of beat&bar, trigger sequencer synching the Subharmonicum and another axoloti based insert-FX for high-feedback-phasing and high-Q-lowpass."
