New Tiptop Audio - VCA

Tiptop Audio - VCA from Tiptop Audio on Vimeo.

via Tiptop Audio

"The Tiptop Audio VCA is a full featured, precision calibrated, analog Voltage Controlled Amplifier. At its heart is a novel design of a control circuitry—a function that lets you sweep continuously through three different response curves: Logarithmic, Linear, Exponential—giving you all three shapes in a single module. This special control circuitry design by Mr. Osamu Hoshuyama was adopted into the VCA module to make it a great sounding synthesizer VCA with flexibility to address all duties: level control for both audio and CV modulation, gating audio into silence, and amplitude modulation effects.

A VCA, Voltage Controlled Amplifier, sometimes referred to as an audio gate, is an essential module to any Eurorack and no system is complete without one. The concept is an input, an output and a control that sets how much of the input signal passes through to the output.

A great VCA means minimum feedthrough of the control signal bleeding into the passing signal and minimum distortion applied to the passing signal. An excellent audio gate means minimal leakage of signal from IN to OUT when the control tells the VCA to fully close. These are the most critical conditions for a good sounding, good responding VCA and are what the Tiptop Audio design carefully addresses. 2 LED peak indicator lights on the front panel light up with incoming CV or audio signals. While a clipping indicator for audio is expected, clipping of CV is often overlooked and it’s included here to visually maintain the full dynamic range of an envelope driving the VCA.

The Tiptop Audio VCA lets you concentrate on creative uses rather than figuring out the module’s anomalies. The result is an excellent sounding synthesizer VCA that’s a joy to use and pleasing to hear."

Tiptop Audio Buchla 200t Sound Demo

video upload by Station 252

"Buchla and Tiptop Audio 200t series workout.

Exploring Dual Oscillator Model 258t and Quad Function Generator Model 281t sound capabilities while recording my new EP. I was curious how the sound and response of those two modules will fit into my music and at the same time going into territories I wouldn't normally go to out of curiosity.

I've used a bunch of additional modules as my patches grew to hear how 200t modules fit with other eurorack modules and to keep everything in context, those where:

Tiptop Audio: Z2040 LP-VCF Gets a New Look

Tiptop Audio: Z2040 LP-VCF from Tiptop Audio on Vimeo.

"Tiptop Audio: Z2040 LP-VCF (4-Pole Voltage Controlled Filter)

http://www.tiptopaudio.com

Music by ANGLE

http://www.angleproject.net

The Z2040 is our redesign of the most famous analog filter from the poly synths of the 80’s and features Tiptop Audio’s signature lush, big and creamy sound. Its frequency sweeps make thick bass lines and leads with great dynamics.

When modulated with audio frequencies through its various inputs, the Z2040 gets quite colorful and is capable of creating so many new sounds and textures as the forces of the incoming waves and their harmonics all blend through the filter’s non linear circuit.

When set with Resonance feedback fully up, the Z2040 transforms into a pure sine-core VC-Oscillator, great for making snappy percussive elements and whistling sounds.

A look under the hood will find that the heart of the Z2040 is a discrete design 4-Pole Low Pass filter with a similar core to that of the SSM2040 Filter chip used in the 80’s Prophet 5 Rev 2 synthesizer, and its brother the SSM2044 used in the famous early EMU samplers and PPG synthesizers of the 80’s. Both filters are considered by many as 'the best sounding filter ever.'

The Z2040’s four modulation inputs are built to handle CV and audio signals, enabling deep modulation of the filter core and passing signals.

A VC resonance input is provided to modulate and even clip the sine wave produced by the filter feedback loop.

A Frequency Modulation input (FM) provides dynamic filter sweeps and the unique VC-FM index allows modulation of the incoming FM signals.

On top of that, the Z2040 comes with an audio VCA that can be configured to act upon the input or the output of the filter."

Tiptop Audio RS909 - TR-909 Rim Shot Eurorack Module Nearing Completion

via @AnalogueZone

"@tiptopaudio TR-series is getting close to completion!"

http://analoguezone.com/Tiptop-Audio/tiptop-audio-rs909

"The Tiptop Audio - RS909 is the TR-909 Rimshot analog generator in a Eurorack format; adding yet another low-cost analog drum generator from a legendary drum machine to your modular synthesizer, and expanding your Tiptop Audio modular drum machine even further.

We use an exact reproduction of the original analog circuit for the RS909. Its sound is generated by a clever set of three T-bridge oscillators, each producing a damped sine wave at a different frequency. The mix of those oscillators goes through a VCA whose gain is controlled by an envelope generator providing the well known attack feel of the sound.

In the RS909 we bring out to the front panel frequency control knobs for the the two internal oscillators, OSC1 and OSC2, for adjustment of their pitch, further extending the sounds this circuit is capable of and allowing fine adjustment to the classic sound.

The RS909 includes a high-powered output gain stage capable of producing hot signals. On the inputs, we have designed a pulse-shaper circuit so you can trigger the RS909 with trigger/gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. This eliminates the need to shape pulses sent to the module and ensures the same stable sound at peak power, regardless of your pulse source. Based on the architecture of the 909, the Accent input is versatile and able to take in both CV and Gate signals for continuously changing dynamics. All of these unique features make integrating this legendary sound generator into your modular synth easy, unleashing the power of real analog drums."

"Just a test of my new Division 6 Morpheum VCA morphing ring modulator. Two Melekko Heavy Industries Richter Oscillator IIs into the Morpheum to start. Division 6 SQ816 Sequencer into the Morpheum mod input for rhythm. SQ816 provides bass drum gate for the Tiptop Audio BD808 bass drum and drives the clock in for the Tiptop Z8000 sequencer which in turn triggers the Tiptop SD808 snare and HATS808. Tiptop does not go through the Morpheum. Mattson Mini Modular LFO later modulates the pitch of one of the Malekko Richter Oscillator IIs. Some reverb and phaser provided by the TC Electronic M300."

Circadian Rhythms

Circadian Rhythms from Joseph Fraioli on Vimeo.

"a patch focused around the tiptop audio circadian rhythms (CR) as the heart of the system that provides the main clock source and triggers for events.

the programming was done on all 8 channels of the CR in 2x32 mode. fills are set to 16th note. mutes, fills and additional programming are performed on the fly.

patch basics:

CR ch 1: main kick
sound source is the blue lantern BDv4 going through the modcan frequency shifter.

CR ch 2: snare
sound source is the make noise mysteryon who’s pitch is being modulated by the mod can quad lfo who’s synced to the CR main clock output. the output was split into a separate VCA who’s being opened by the sound machines light plane and sent to the mungo d0 with macro machines storage strip. the storage strip is being sequenced by the CR main clock output.

CR ch 3: closed hat
sound source here is the SSF quantum rainbow blue noise.

CR ch 4: open hat
sound source is the SSF quantum rainbow white noise though the intellijel µfold and then a bit of delay from the synth tech e580.

CR ch 5: glass percussion as well as delayed bass and end melodic thing
glass percussion sound source is the noise engineering BI. pitch modulation from the tiptop z8000. delayed bass is an intellijel dixie square run through the cwejman res-4 and.end melodic thing is the harvestman piston honda MKII.

CR ch 6: chord bursts
this is the intellijel/cylonix shapeshifter in sequence mode then run thorough the qu-bit electronic RT60 reverb.

CR ch 7: tonal accents
sound source is braids in meta mode. also being sequenced by the CR and pith modulated by the tiptop z8000.

CR ch 8: sub kick
sound source is the tiptop audio BD808.

acidy bass: trigger source for the acidy bass is the intellijel metropolis that is synced to the CR via the clock output. sound source is the intellijel rubicon thats being FMed by a DIXIE sine, then put through the cwejman MMF1 in low pass.

tonal drones: trigger source here is the divided output of the intellijel metropolis into two make noise pressure points that have been micro tonally tuned. the sound sources here are synth tech e350 and make noise DPO that share a common mutable instruments peaks ADSR. the sounds are then processed through the serge resonant equalizer and tiptop audio zdsp with halls of valhalla reverb card.

hi plucked melody in mid section: this is the qu bit nebulae playing back a sample of mutable instruments braids in PLUK mode playing a melody sequenced on metropolis then fed to the mungo d0. the nebulae is then processed through flame FX6 reverb.

no computers or external hardware were used in this performance :)"

"ADE-10 Front Panel

ADE-10 Reactive Shaper
10 HP Eurorack Module
Due out 2011

Audio Demos:
snd.sc/lJiraU
snd.sc/jisJwY
snd.sc/jwRaI2"

"These sounds were created using the ADE-10 Reactive Shaper - a Eurorack waveshaper module from Abstract Data which is currently in development.

The audio input for the ADE-10 is a 100Hz Sine wave straight from the output of a TipTop Audio Z3000 VCO with no modulation or effects.

The 3 CV modulation inputs on the ADE-10 were taken from the Sine, Triangle and Ramp wave outputs from a single Doepfer A-147 LFO.

The settings for both the Z3000 and the A-147 are identical for all these sounds. The only settings to change were on the ADE-10 Reactive Shaper.

These sounds were recorded straight from the output of the ADE-10 with no effects. Please download the AIFF file for a high-quality version.

Comments and questions all welcome. Enjoy."

"This patch shows how the ADE-10 can be used to effect complex, evolving waveforms.

There are 4 versions here for the same physical patch - only the knob settings on the ADE-10 prototype have been changed - all other settings were static and the only audio input is the Pad sound. There are no effects or overdubs.

First version is the original sound straight into the desk. The next 3 versions illustrate the effect of slowly raising all 3 controls on the ADE-10 from 0 to 10. All 3 of these controls have CV Inputs - but they were not used for this example."

"This patch shows how the ADE-10 can be used to effect simple, symmetrical waveforms.

VCO (1 Sine Wave) into VCA 1/ADSR 1 into ADE-10 Prototype into VCA 2/ADSR 1.

VCO Pitch is controlled by an 8 x step sequencer. ADE-10 Protoype has 3 x CV Inputs. CV In 1 is being fed by the Sine Out of an LFO, CV In 2 is being fed by the Saw Out of the same LFO and CV in 3 is being fed by VCA 2.

3 versions here for the same physical patch - only the knob settings on the ADE-10 prototype have been changed - all other settings were static and the only audio input is a single Sine Wave. There are no effects or overdubs.

First version is the original pattern straight into the desk. Versions 2 & 3 have 2 variations - ADE-10 Prototype Output 1 & ADE-10 Prototype Output 2 while version 4 has 3 variations. The final variation is the ADE-10 prototype in self-oscillation with no audio input.

Comments and questions all welcome. Enjoy."
