RK-002 Zaquencer

Published on Sep 15, 2016 Retrokits

The ZAQ RK-2000 appears to be a custom cased Beringer BCR2000.

"A little demo of the Zaquencer / RK-002 controlling the Volca Sample.

Sequencer 3 & 4 are used on the same midi channel (sent to the Volca Sample). 4 is set to drum mode, 3 is set to note mode.

The a. parameter of the Zaquencer is set to send out program changes so I can change the Volca Sample's channel which is under chromatic control.

At 1:30 I start the chromatic part and at 1:44 I start changing the Chromatic Sample Channel.

Volca Sample and Volca Keys are merged with the RK-003 and recorded in Ableton, adding some compression and filtered delay."

Use the content to create your own version Ok GO’s infectious tunes, mix and match content with your own samples create remixes, or create entirely original sample-based music using the simple, step-based recording layout of the volca sample."

via Korg:

"100 different OK GO sounds are built-in

One hundred guitar, bass, drum, synthesizer, and vocal phrases that were actually used on "Hungry Ghosts," the latest album from OK GO, are built-in as preloaded samples (*). First you'll want to listen to these samples and enjoy the signature sounds of OK GO.

You can also edit the samples intuitively as you would expect on the volca sample. You can create completely new sounds by turning the knobs to adjust parameters such as length, pitch, and level.

New Order on the Volca Sample

Published on Mar 11, 2018 Retrokits

"This video uses Seq24 and RK-002 to play New Orders' Blue Monday on a Korg Volca Sample.

This ultimately weird looking RaspberryPi 3 is running Seq24 to send out MIDI via our serial port driver to the connected RK-004.

More info on the RPi serial MIDI driver can be found here:
https://www.retrokits.com/rk-004-rpi/

The RK-002 does real-time MIDI processing so you can use note velocity, chromatically play multiple channels on the Volca Sample and still keep a few sample channels available for drum triggering.

The RK-002 Play modes on the Volca Sample firmware (v58+) can be found here:

Ekzil - "Chasing illusions" : Circuit Track / Volca sample / Volca bass

video upload by Geoffroy AULAGNER

"Today I wanted to test a completely new setup, more compact. I said goodbye to my favorite midi controller. I decided to use uniquely the synths performance capability.
I took out the Volca Sample 2 that I never managed to use .. until now 😁
The "step jump" function of the volca sample is really interesting in a live context ! it allows you to make original transitions..

Hope you like it !

Setup:
Novation Circuit Tracks: Drums, bass, chords progression
Volca sample 2: Drums
Volca Bass: main melody
Korg NTS-1: reverb, chorus, build up with the noise oscillator and outro melody (with FM oscillator)

This jam was performed and recorded live to a stereo output.
I edited the mix in Ableton, by adding EQ and compression."

Patch description:

Kick, hats, and some percussion are from the Korg Volca Sample. Audio from the Volca to the a119 external in, and then to the synthrotek echo, modulated with sample and hold. Second voice is a square from a143-4 through the wasp filter, modulated with S&H. Audio is split to the Mutable Instruments Clouds for some reverb and feedback,

Techno But All Sounds Are Pss380 - Korg Volca Sample & Yamaha PSS380 Techno Jam

Published on Sep 29, 2019 ChrisLody

"So what if you were to make a techno tune using nothing but sounds synthesized on a Yamaha PSS380, including the drums, sampled into a Volca Sample? These are the kind of questions that keep me awake at night, so that's what I did for this video.

I'm really quite fond of the Yamaha PSS380. It's a really gritty sounding bargain basement FM synth with just barely enough controls to produce the sounds you need. But good enough to get some great percussion sounds, bass and some damn weird stuff going when it's pushed in the right direction. I'll review it at some point I think.

I ran the whole thing through a pair of DIY flatline optical compressors just to fatten it all up a bit.

I decided to make a Volca Sample pack available of these sounds. You can load them in using Vosyr, Korg Audio Pocket or Caustic Editor for Volca Sample:

7XWAVE Sample Sequencer

7XWAVE Sample Sequencer:Walk-through Part 1
7XWAVE Sample Sequencer:Walk-through Part 2 (Step Edits)

"This is a guide to 7XWAVE Sample Synth & Sequencer app
Explained how to choose tracks to edit sound and quick basic step editing.
Choose/import sounds, filters, trimming modulation and effects."

via the Apple Appstore

"7Xwave - a 7 track sample sequencer with synthesiser & animatable modulation features.
So many sound manipulation possibilities can be had with this whether its a funky electro backing track or crazy glitch effects.

Each track adjustable up to 64 steps.

Choose a sample, tweak the sound using envelopes & filters.

Add effects to each sound, pan, level, sample start, length pitch & filter.

Lock track parameter dials to a step or record dial movements in real time.

Export recorded loops or route audio into Audiobus or AUM etc keeping in sync with other apps using MIDI or Ableton Link.

This app was inspired by the Korg Volca & Electribes. I had so much fun with the Volca but it felt limited in memory and steps. It was a very fun sound toy & occasionally a loop maker but I wanted to be able to store more, longer patterns, and have more variation in sequences. Being a massive fan of the Korg Electribes, i looked at the recent Electribe Sampler. It was cool but just didn't seem as fun as the older Electribes plus you couldn't animate the sample start and length which to me was the best part of the Volca. So i decided to see if I can make my own app that does what i wanted. Using the knowledge i gained from 2Xb303 & 6X806 I delved deeper into audio coding. Originally an environment artist, I have had to leant alot as i go, but here after many months during a strange year of set backs, I finally finished it. I know there will be some disappointed its not AUv3 as I havent managed to find a way for that just yet. I have had great fun with this and created some cool loops and tracks myself. I dont need my Volca anymore. I hope you enjoy this too.

TR-707 Volca FM Volca Sample Live House Jam

Published on Aug 7, 2016 Zachary Berry

"I'm obsessed with the 707.... Here I have it as the master synced to the Volca sample (with the stock sample set), which is synced to the Volca FM. 707 is set to shuffle level 2 and the Sample has it's own swing dialed in.

The Sample is pretty noisy, I think it's the el cheapo 4-way Volca AC Adapter I have. WHATEVER IT ADDS CHARACTER.

No effects other than a slight reverb put on the FM track after recording in Logic. Recorded with a Focusrite red box thing. You know the one."

For each volca there is an "External Instruments" track in Ableton Live - so I can switch between them with the Launch Controll XL. Each track has an arpeggiator, beat repeater, reverb and delay, which I can control via Launch Control and MPK. Ableton Live sends MIDI Clock to the volcas (Splitted by the MIDI Merger).

Setup:
Ableton Live 9
Korg Volca Keys
Korg Volca Sample
Korg Volca Bass
Korg Volca FM
Launch Control XL
Akai MPK Mini
ValhallaRoom (I love it)
NI Replika (Delay)

"An analog synth composed of modules

Eight modules

The volca modular is a semi-modular synthesizer consisting of independent analog synth modules, digital effects, and a sequencer. Each of the modules has been carefully selected for its stand-alone completeness. The modules are internally connected so that sound can be produced even before connecting the included pin cables, and the routing is shown by white lines on the panel. Module connections via a pin cable take priority over the internal connections, bypassing them.

SOURCE:

This consists of a triangle VCO carrier and a modulator. The complex overtones generated by FM modulation are sent through a wave folder circuit to add additional overtones, producing a distinctive sound. This module is important in determining the basic character of the sound of volca modular.
