Tom Oberheim's Jacket

Very "Daft Punk." Apparently this one was owned by Tom Oberheim himself. Man I am tempted... If anyone out there gets it, please post back with a comment and let us know. It would be great to know this went to a good home. Title link takes you to more shots pulled via this auction. The other shots include images of it in silver reversible . Sent my way via brian comnes.

Details:
"It’s True! My very good friend, Mr. Tom Oberheim personally gave me his own Oberheim jacket has a thank you for supplying him with key electronic components and consulting with him on his electronic needs as he began the rise of Marion Systems. Tom is a good friend and a fantastic man with incredible genius. As a young man I grew to have a ton of respect for him and enjoyed hanging out with him in his Santa Monica office as Marion Systems grew.

Tom Oberheim (mini bio)
Synthesis Pioneer

Tom Oberheim has been developing electronic products for musicians for over 35 years. He invented a number of innovative electronic music products, including: the first polyphonic music synthesizer, the first phase shifter and ring modulator for the performing musician, the first completely programmable music synthesizer, and the first electronic music system that incorporated a synchronized music synthesizer, digital sequencer and digital drum machine. He has founded and managed three electronic music product companies, and served as a CEO and CTO. He also participated in the development and implementation of the MIDI standard."

Tom, forgive me for putting your jacket on Ebay, but I feel it should be passed on to another fan of your fantastic legacy (not to mention it doesn’t fit me anymore).

This silk, zip up Jacket is in FANTASTIC condition, reversible, and has the large GREAT Oberheim Logo embroidered on both the “black side as well as the silver side”. Also since this was Tom’s jacket “Oberheim” is embroidered on the front left breast area of the black side. The jacket can be worn comfortably by a man or woman and I would say the size is a man’s large, based on Tom’s size and when it fit me."

Textquencer iOS app by Cem Olcay turns lyrics into synth melody...how cool is that

video upload by Brian Comnes

"Sorry about the audio quality...this was to demo functionality, not create a track.
I find that pop song lyrics with repetitive phrases are nice due to recurring words. Also nice are lyrics from languages with a lot of vowels like Hawaiian , ..try Hopi too

Wingie2: New alternate tuning features in firmware v3.1

video upload by Dave Seidel

"Meng Qi's Wingie2 resonator is a unique musical device with many uses. As a user of microtonal tunings, I decided to try to add some microtonal abilities to the firmware, which is open source. I am happy to say that Meng has accepted my work, and it will be part of the v3.1 firmware release.

This video is meant to provide an overview of the new features, including details on usage, and a couple of demos. I hope you find it helpful, despite my primitive video skills. For more information, including details of each tuning and a ToushOSC template for switching between tunings, please go to https://mysterybear.net/projects/wing...

“The word is now a virus. The flu virus may have once been a healthy lung cell. It is now a parasitic organism that invades and damages the central nervous system. Modern man has lost the option of silence. Try halting sub-vocal speech. Try to achieve even ten seconds of inner silence. You will encounter a resisting organism that forces you to talk. That organism is the word.” – William S. Burroughs, The Ticket That Exploded"

Frostwave PVC Scalable Pedal to Voltage Converter

This one in via Brian Comnes.  The following are instructions on how to use the pedal via Paul Perry of Frostwave.  It went for $125 on eBay.

"The instructions for setting up the PVC for other pedals is this: connect expression pedal to box (which turns it on). Set pedal to minimum position. Adjust the blue recessed screw on the front of the PVC where it says 'min' so that the led nearby 'just' lights.

Now set the pedal to maximum & adjust the other blue recessed screw until the 'max' led just comes on. That's it!

The Resonator can run on anything from 14 V AC to 18V AC, it makes no difference. The PVC can run on a 9v DC transformer (centre +ve) or via an internal 9v battery (not supplied).

If you have any questions, contact me directly.

If you want the PVC to sweep both filter inputs at the same time, you can use a 1/4 to two 1/4 splitter plug or cable.

best, paul perry Melbourne Australia""

Suzuki Portachord Tronichord

via this auction

"Also Known as 'Tronichord' model pc-27

This is the "original" omnichord (well, it was the beginning of the evolution of the omnichord). This is the first of it's kind, and it then led to the future production of the Omnichord which has more features/options.

I sent this to Suzuki to have the power source modified. Being that this is from the late 70's, the battery compartment had a very old terminal for AA batteries. I could barely get today's AA batteries to fit in, and when they did, they were almost impossible to get them back out. The connection was also undependable and the batteries often felt hot. So about a year ago, I sent it to Suzuki and "Franz"(I guess he is known as the omnichord guy) replaced the AA terminal with a 9-volt. This is much more convenient for quickly swapping batteries out if you were to play it on stage. The battery life seems to be unaffected by replacing the AA's with one 9-volt. Franz from Suzuki thought, if anything it might last longer. He tested it for 4 hours and said it still played(battery didn't die)... After being serviced, the battery door hasn't stayed on as well as it used to..."

KAWAI XD-5 WALK THRU

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video upload by Brian Comnes

"This video documents the Kawai XD5 I'm selling on Reverb, enjoy, its not just a drum box"

via this auction

"Kawai XD-5 percussion synthesizer module in excellent condition with DC16 RAM card, power supply and full documentation including schematics.

Be sure to check out the video walk thru made with this actual unit for sale. This synth is more than a drum box!

This is an awesome drum synth module that has 256 waveforms, four of which can be combined to create a single drum or synth sound.

You build an array of 64 patches, from there you assign them to a "kit" spanning 88 keys and save it. You can have 16 Kits ready to rock.

It has great resonant lowpass filters and envelopes for shaping the sounds and is excellent for techno, electro and industrial drums, basslines and leads. For effects, a delay type effect is possible as well as a ring-modulator.

Patches can be directed to stereo out or 6 individual outs . Directing your kicks to a separate out and then to a compressor really makes them punchy.
There are 32 digital oscillators, 256 waveforms (16-bit, 44.1kHz resolution) comprised of
41 DC (Digital Cyclic) and
215 CM waveforms,
16 note polyphony,
64 user patches,
16 user drum kits,
a 16 x 2 character backlit LCD display screen, 2-space rack mountable

This XD-5 is in great shape and comes as pictured with a photocopy of the Owner's Manual, Patch List (Factory Preset), Wave List / MDI Data Format manual
includes a 12V wall wart power supply."

RIP Mike Fulk - Novachord Hammond Guru

This one in via Brian Comnes, via pressdemocrat.com:

"A Lake County man who collected electric organs was identified Monday as the victim of two-alarm fire that destroyed his mobile home on Sunday.

The body of Michael Fulk, 72, was found in the back bedroom of his home in a Lucerne mobile home park...

The mobile home was filled with electric organs and other items owned by Fulk, Deputy Fire Chief Pat Brown said. One room held a dozen of the musical instruments."

Eric Barbour of Metsonix has an obit up here:

"Completely unknown to myself, or to the Hammond organ fans, Fulk had moved to a trailer in Lucerne, on the north shore of Clear Lake, several years ago. And, judging by this story, was probably barbecued by an electrical fire in one of his Hammond organs. The exits were blocked--by organs. Including two Novachords, I presume."
