MakeNoise Phonogene Firmware Update Patch Examples

MakeNoise Phonogene Firmware Update Patch Examples from Walker Farrell on Vimeo.

"A couple brief patch examples utilizing new features from the Phonogene firmware update.

http://www.makenoisemusic.com/phonogene.shtml

Upgrade available from CONTROL:
ctrl-mod.com/Make-Noise-Phonogene-p/make-noise-phonogene-v372.htm
The Phonogene rev 372 upgrade includes:
Improved Audio Fidelity
Improved Vari-Speed response (shorter scale, greater resolution)
End of GENE Pulse (EOS outputs pulses for both Splices and Genes, turn up Gene Size see this in action)
Longer Record Time (improved memory management and improved audio fidelity make longer recordings possible)
Broken ECHO Mode: all new behavior allows for realtime processing of audio signals.
To enter Broken Echo Mode create a sample/ loop/ Splice (just press REC button and record entire memory blank, for example),press and hold REC button until you pass through the EOS (EOS flashes) and RECORD will be stuck ON. To Exit Broken ECHO, just hit REC button again (do not HOLD it though, or you will go back into Broken Echo).
In this mode the PHONOGENE is similar to the Echoplex with the SOS switch activated or that trick that William S. Burroughs used where he covered the ERASE head of a tape recorder and allowed a spool of tape to be recorded over and over again (without erasing the previous recordings). This is a great mode for building walls of sound, drones or making crude echo FX.
Phonogene will still mind Splices and Vari-Speed, Gene Size, Shift and Slide all function. Any modulation of these parameters will be recorded. Be sure to set the MIX control according to your desired results. For example, live input processing will require the MIX to be set at around 50%, while massaging content that has been captured will need MIX set to 100% WET. Adding or removing splices during Broken Echo Mode is not supported.
Bug Fix:
Double trigger at EOS while Vari-Speed set for Forward playback is fixed."

"Monster from the Depths" (watch out, it gets loud)

Published on Apr 3, 2013

Synth spotting comes in around 2:20. You don't see the MAM SQ-16 and EF-303 for that matter often in videos.

"Rocking out for the first time with my new setup, DX200, EF-303, Waldorf MicroQ, Waldorf RackAttack, Korg EA-1 and ER-1 and MicroKorg, modded Roland DR-110, Oberheim Echoplex, and MAM SQ-16 sequencer. Audio recorded from Mackie 1202 (original) to iPhone via a Blue Mikey 2 direct line input. Some distortion occurs within the track, sorry about that."

I wonder if he was thinking Modcan for the other modular manufacturer known for banana plugs. Buchla utilizes both, banana for CV paths and 1/8" style for audio.

Oberheim Echoplex Prime: EDP Prototype

(click for more)

"This is a not-really-functional Echoplex I bought on ebay, thinking i could fix it and use it. I'm pretty sure this was the original test prototype due to the socketed resistors and other passives. if this had been built for software testing to be sent out the rework would have been soldered in place and most likely be neater.

I'm not sure if i could even trust this outside of the studio even if i did get it working, so i'm now the proud owner of a piece of looping history (which also serves as an elaborate paperweight.)"

UNIVOX E-100 TAPE DELAY

via this auction
via the listing: "Ecellent working UNIVOX E-100. This unit also has Sound On Sound. All jacks and knobs work noise free. Everything works. Cosmetically its in good shape, with only one noticeable flaw in the bottom right corner of the face tolex, you can see it in the photo. Definitely nothing that is to much of an eyesore. Really nice cheaper alternative to something like the Rolands or the Echoplex's. I've used it with Guitars, Synths (analog ms20, sh101, and modulars) to great effect, really works well with a microphone for weird vocals, the sound on sound with this works great for making loops with voice."

Guitar Loop Processed by 200e & friends

YouTube Uploaded by dkimcg on Jan 27, 2012

"A simple guitar loop goes through a bunch of processing with the Echoplex sending midi clock to the Machinedrum. The sends on the Mackie go into the Buchla which does nothing without an input signal. No clock on the Buchla, just catching envelopes to run pulses here and there."

Gibson Musical Instruments is pleased to be the name behind the long awaited return of the renowned Echoplex product. The reintroduction of this much sought after unit is faithful to the original version in every possible detail and allows for some of the most imaginative effects available for live or studio use.

Vintage Echoplex EP-3 1970s Market Electronics/Maestro

via this auction

"Serial # is 25506. Unit shows its age, with its share of scuffs and scratches, but is in pretty good shape overall. Has lots of flutter -- with longer delays, it's like having a slight chorus on all the time. Not obvious on short/slapback delays. This particular Echoplex has GREAT runaway feedback! Case is in good shape (but has no handle). 3-prong AC cord may have been an upgrade at some point.

Includes one almost new (maybe used for an hour or two) Tubeplex (Mike Battle) tape cartridge."

Publison DHM vs Freddie Mercury

Uploaded by lusydoebay on Apr 26, 2011

"Starts off with some simple delay, then switchs modes to stereo crosspoint looping to make reverse delay madness.. Bohemian Animal Collective Rhapsody"

via this auction

"Publison DHM 89 B2
Stereo Delay & Pitch Shifter
Late 70's Early 80's

It has seperate controls for sample start and end points, when they are reversed the unit plays the delay backwards. When you factor in variable pitch, feedback, speed, etc... you get mind numbing possibilities. Goes from standard delay to complete Arial Pink FX bananas, and still does everything in between like making a good pitch thickener for background vocals, like an Eventide H910. Can feel like a space Echo or Echoplex in many ways too...

Also, there is a multi pin connector which will allow for CV control of a lot of front panel controls. This can be modded to play samples pitched on a keyboard, which is what Tangerine Dream did to play samplers on the Firestarter Soundtrack."
