between seasons

between seasons from ioflow on Vimeo.

"ambient improvisation for monome norns, ipad pro, oto bim, oto bam. semigenerative melodies and percussion patterns. weather shifts. clear skies. warm days and cool nights.

melodies, pads, and bass: five instances of audio damage phosphor 2. the main pad sound is also playing from mlr on norns; three copies running at various speeds and directions, with one pattern recorder per copy.

percussion: three instances of audio damage axon 2.

ipad: kymatica AUM is the host for all the AUv3 instruments and effects. the rozeta sequencer suite is used extensively to generate melodies and chords: three instances of collider and two instances of particles, along with various LFOs and arps to further mutate patterns and ranges. ipad audio tracks use several instances of audio damage plugins: roughrider 2, dubstation 2, and grind.

ableton live is used as a mixer + recorder, and also to send the ipad's melodic tracks to and from the oto bim + bam desktop fx units.

recorded april 13, 2019."

Monome Norns

"Monome's killer app - standalone, battery-powered hardware with community-driven scripts, apps etc. for use with MIDI controllers, Grid, or by itself. Worth it alone for the MLR sampler, tbh.

--- From monome:

changes. travels. is open to possibilities.

norns is many sound instruments. it connects to grids, MIDI and other objects. norns lets you define its behavior with scripts and DSP.

past. present. future. norns is many tomorrows.

WHAT IS IT REALLY?
norns is a small, portable sound computer that dynamically runs scripts and DSP, such as:

sample-cutter (using a grid, aka mlr)
polysynth (connect a MIDI keyboard)
algorithmic drum machine (MIDI CC-mapped)
drone box (no input)
granulator (controlled via OSC using a phone or tablet)
asynchronous looper (stompbox-style)
polyphasic sequencer (using a USB-CV interface to control modular synths)
these are just a few examples. scripts can be created or modified to completely alter the functionality of the system. we maintain a growing repository of scripts which means the machine will continue to have new possibilities.

norns is designed to be changed, encouraging customization and invention."

duskfall

duskfall from ioflow on Vimeo.

"experimental ambient. live performance for monome norns, piano, and juno 106 synthesizer.

a moment of stillness on the canyon floor. a bench just off the trail. the final minutes of autumn twilight. leaves rustling and crackling, a nuttall's woodpecker trilling, black phoebes chirping, the dwindling blur of traffic at the end of the day.

three piano melodies and juno 106 pads were recorded into norns and loaded into mlr, performed on the grid. the piano and synthesizer improvisations are played as-is, then layered, relooped, redirected, and reordered. in the background is the stereo field recording of that part of the canyon.

recorded november 9, 2018."

First Norns | OP-1 + Monome Grid + Norns

Published on Sep 6, 2018 Lightbath

"This is my first try at using Norns with mlr. I played OP-1 into it and created four loops that I then animated using the pattern record function. I play directly with the speed mod parameter of REC 4 (the sustained note) to pitch it up and down and waver it a bit."

canyon loops

canyon loops from ioflow on Vimeo.

"experimental ambient. live performance for monome norns.

two rhodes improvisations were recorded into norns and loaded into mlr. also present is a field recording of an anna's hummingbird, taken while on a nature walk in a canyon preserve.

the main rhodes improvisation is duplicated across the first two tracks. the second, shorter rhodes improvisation is on the third track, just above the hummingbird loop. all the rhodes tracks are played at different speeds and directions, jumbled, chopped and switched, accompanied by the gentle sounds of the hummingbird chirping happily to itself in the shadows of the dense canyon foliage, on a warm summer day.

this is my first recording with monome norns. sample-based grid apps--mlr, mlrv, rove, and all their variants--have been a part of my creative workflow for several years. being freed from the confines of desktop computers and their fidgety, cantankerous operating systems and software stacks; instead being able focus on the immediacy of hardware music-making, as easily as sitting down at my piano, is incredibly liberating. it's pretty much everything i've wanted to be able to do since i got my first monome grid in 2011. norns is wonderful, so full of possibilities. i'm looking forward to fulfilling more musical dreams."

new monome grid. two-tone aluminum and warm white light.

a list of additional objects seen:

monome meadowphysics
monome white whale
monome switch
mannequins mangrove (x2)
intellijel quadra
intellijel springray, large spring tank
parallelogram mlrv

initially the grid is controlling meadowphysics (scattered cross-influenced clocks) and then white whale (tone and trigger sequences). using the switch, focus is moved to the macbook where mlr is running. output from the modular is sampled, transposed, and looped in many layers. all tones from the two mangrove modules.

Also showing how I can record loops from the modular into mlr to manipulate further. I'm using a monome grayscale 128, mlr aes edit 0.4, and a pressure points and brains sequencing a DPO through a QMMG with a Maths beings used to generate envelopes."

multi-touch monitor emulation of monome driving mlr

Published on Oct 22, 2012 by Cranda11

MLR in Reaktor!

"The original MLR was written in Max/Msp by Brian Crabtree, inventor of the Monome. I have rebuilt his program in another language, Reaktor for many reasons: to best understand how a program works, bottom up; because I would like to see the program have more functionality, and I am more fond/capable of/with Reaktor over Max/Msp; and because Reaktor adds certain features that Max/Msp does not allow for. For one, the ability to use any program created in Reaktor as a VST, automatically in your favorite DAW.

After I am complete advancing the program the way I would like to in Reaktor, I will code it in C as a standalone program."

"Preview of a Usine patch, a mix of molar and mlr...

Out only for testing purpose for the moment.

http://sensomusic.com/forums/viewtopi..."

"It's a kind of mix between molar and mlr. You can use it with or without a launchpad.

The 4 last rows allow you to change wich sample will be played.

The 4 first rows displays the actual part of the sample being played (first row=sampler A, second row=second sampler...). You can click on a cell or a pad to play the sample from this position.

Go x= play the sample
rec b= activate audio recording
rec pad = activate the recording for the pad in the order they are played (You can record even if the sample is Go x is not activated, a la MPC).

The main preset manager is yet buggy for the moment. Test it if you want to gave me some feedback.

The four options switchs shows the parameters for each samplers."
