Monome Norns Barcode + VCA🎚| Eurorack Synthesizers Jam

video upload by Andrea Marzilli

"This is about VCA modulation. 🎛

How much I love changing with my hands the level on the stereo image using differente LFOs.
And this is what I’m doing here!
Belong from Barcode script is sending the main sawtooth-ish noisy drone sound to the entire system, heavy modulated by two different LFO’s from @mutable Stages. @noiseeng Desmodus Versio is always at the end of my patches, because of its incredible power in creating the magical atmosphere I always need.

That’s it, simple but effective.
Hope you enjoy!

Headphones as always! 🎧"

Welcome to the Norns 🎛 | Monome Eurorack Jam

video upload by Andrea Marzilli

"Finally, I own the most inspiring machine I ever met since the past three years. Monome did an awesome work with the Norns, can't wait to explore it in depth!
Let's dive into this first soundscape
.
Here you can hear "Fall", an incredibly sounding script from @Ambalek _: pink noises and triangle waves meet the magical flavor of @Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio, creating the main atmosphere of the jam.
@mutableinstruments Plaits is going into Beads, both modulated by Monsoon Looping Dealy for some juicy little distant grooves on the stereo field.
I just love this combo.

Wear your headphones, please. 🎧"

ALLINAIRE Live @ VITALISE. [Monome Teletype, ER-301,Dreadbox, Zoia]

video by Allinaire

"Full uncut set using Eurorack: Monome Teletype doing the heavy lifting via i2c connections to Mannequins Just Friends, w/, Txo & Txi and the mighty Orthogonal Devices ER-301. The Dreadbox NYX2 is doing sequenced synth lines and various sound effects. Live control and manipulation of everything via the 16n Faderbank. More granular and delays via Empress Zoia.
This piece was conceived as an expanded live version of my track 'Torp' from the EP 'Heiro' on Bandcamp and New Sound Waves Records.

Thanks to Luke Snarl for organising the event and handling sound and mixing (including this direct mix off the desk).

The Galaxy Electric - Cosmic Tape Music - Improvised Modular Performance - Ancient Alien Forest

Published on Feb 13, 2020 The Galaxy Electric

"Thanks for listening! Come on a musical voyage with us where we'll send you a new song every day, a cosmic story, and a chance to earn space treasure: https://thegalaxyelectric.lpages.co/5...

Today's trip involves a minimal yet sonically rich pairing; Buchla Music Easel, Vocals,Tape Delay and CV Controllable FX

Come with us as we go on a light cosmic rock hop. We loop our Buchla modular synthesizer using the Monome Grid and MLR.The vocal chain consists of two Boss RE-20s going into a Pigtronix Infinity Looper synced via MIDI clock. We explore many of the various aspects of what the Buchla Music Easel has to offer. It is an endless fount of sound creation and manipulation. The Buchla Music Easel is accompanied by a small Eurorack FX chain including a 4MS Dual Looping Delay, Field Kit with CV Radio, and Mutable Instruments Warps for white noise.

We have NO idea what these performances are going to be. We literally turn on our gear and start sound-checking and before we know it, we have traveled to another planet!

Deep & dark jam w/ Deckard's Dream, Octatrack, ContinuuMini, modular (collab w/ Crooked Walking)

Published on Jan 31, 2020

"A live, semi-improvised hardware performance, and inspired by late-night collaboration. Tim Rich (aka Crooked Walking) was kind enough to host me as we stumbled our way into making a song from scratch. I handled some of the bones of the structure, and Tim was masterful in detailing the song with rich, unpredictable modular sounds. He also took advantage of the ContinuuMini (and its EagenMatrix internal synth engine) to make a great lead voice. I'm super pleased with the results of our night of hanging out.

At the end of the session, we decided we'd both take the audio and video and mix it in our respective ways. As such, please check out Crooked Walking's version of the audio and video here!: [below]

Written and performed in a 3-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

Elektron Octatrack MkII — Drums, bass, ambience, MIDI sequencing for the Deckard's, effects for the Deckard's, master-level effects and scenes
Black Corporation Deckard's Dream — Three synth lines

Crooked Walking's setup, in order of appearance (thanks to Tim for writing this):

Morphagene – I caught an interesting loop in the 4ms Dual Looping Delay while I was running a different Quanta patch and recorded a couple variations of the patch into Morphagene. The Gene Size and Slide parameters are being manually controlled from the left two sliders on the Intellijel Tetrapad. The morph and Organize parameters are being modulated by the Malekko Voltage Block.

QuantaPercussion – This is a drone coming from Quanta on the iPad running one of the new Hainbach test equipment patches. The Quanta is set to drone a few notes that are then run into the modular. They are patched through a VCA with a Intellijel ADSR envelope being triggered by the Monome Grid running the Kria software on the Ansible module. The output of the VCA is then run into the 4ms Dual Looping Delay which is being controlled manually throughout the video (top right of the eurorack). The output of the Dual Looping Delay is going into the Intellijel Planar for some panning effects modulated by an LFO from the Monome Arc4. Finally, it’s being output into the Make Noise QPAS. The stereo width controls are being modulated by the Malekko Voltage Block. The filter cutoff is being controlled manually from the right most slider on the Intellijel Tetrapad. The high pass output from the QPAS is then recorded.

ContinuuMini – The ContinuuMini is running a choir preset from the EaganMatrix directly into Ableton. There are several plugins on the patch, most notably Ableton Echo for delay and the XLN RC20 Retro Color emulating an old cassette tape to lower the fidelity of the otherwise pristine sounding ContinuuMini.

Kick – The Intellijel Plonk SubKick preset is being triggered by the Monome Grid (running the Kria program on the Ansible module as described above in the Quanta Percussion description). The output is running through the LoFi Junky and, most importantly, through the Klangbau Rohren Tube VCA.

Crooked Walking x Jay Hosking | Modular, Deckard's Dream, ContinuuMini, Octatrack +

Published on Jan 31, 2020 Crooked Walking

"This is my first full track in a long time, and I'm so excited that I got to make it with Jay Hosking. Some recent major (positive) life changes have kept me from making music, but I've finally got my new space setup and am back to making sounds.

Jay is a wizard with the Octatrack and really built the structure of this piece. The first two minutes are mostly him performing with Deckard's and the Octatrack."

Keep the rockets fueled:

This is the second installment of a series of improvised modular synth performance mixed with pop elements - female vocals and mellotron.
These elements combined with a tempo synchronized looping technique provide a rich sonic landscape of cosmic texture inspired by the early electronic and tape music innovators. This music is especially inspired by Space Age era electronic music or cosmic tape music. The effects are spring reverb, delay and the occasional reversing and pitch shifting of the recorded phrase. Our goal is to combine analog and digital technology to recreate this early electronic music tonal variety in an improvised setting.

Anywhere in Nature • Renfrew | Ambient Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

Published on Nov 28, 2019 Lightbath

"Live performance multi-tracked to MixPre-10T and mixed in Logic with additional processing and effects.

With the addition of two Polyend Anywhere modules and two Intellijel Palette cases to my setup, I can now fit a powerful, fully-battery-powered system into my backpack and make music anywhere in nature. I almost called this first piece 'Trio for Friends, Rings, and Sparrow' because it uses three voices: Just Friends played by Monome Norns (via Crow), a micro version of Rings into Clouds, and a live field recording that features a sparrow that flew directly overhead as it sang. Listen closely and you'll notice that the sparrow also called the exact moment the piece ended. Magic. Sparrow Totem.

Monome Norns Zellen with Crow support

Published on Nov 3, 2019 S. B. Arweiler

"I've added Crow support to Zellen, my sequencer for Monome Norns, so now Zellen can talk to eurorack via Monome Crow.

The first part of the patch is the alternative CV sequencing Mangrove, that is processed through Cold Mac and then looped (via "Freeze") in Bastl Thyme. The second part is the CV out and trigger pinging Three Sisters. Everything goes through Bastl Thyme for delay.

Crow configuration for Zellen:
Input 1: Clock
Input 2: CV offset
Output 1: CV
Output 2: Trigger
Output 3: Alternative CV
Output 4: Clock

Crow: First (Monome Crow + Mannequins)

Published on Oct 20, 2019 S. B. Arweiler

"First flight with Monome Crow. This is Crow's 'first' sequencer, sequencing Mannequins Mangrove and a self oscillating Three Sisters. Just Friends is only used as a clock source in this patch. Everything goes through Bastl Thyme. EHX Catehdral adds reverb in the mixer's."

via monome

"crow speaks and listens and remembers bits of text. A scriptable USB-CV-ii machine.

crow connects to norns and computers running Max, Max for Live, and other serial-enabled applications. We’ve created various norns scripts and Max for Live devices which require no programming, and we’ve also created tutorials and studies to get you started quickly programming your own ideas into this tiny, powerful module.

crow also stores a complete script, so that without a USB connection it can continue to run, responding to CV input and ii messages.

A collaboration by Whimsical Raps and monome.

Specifications

Eurorack, 2hp width, 41mm depth
Power consumption: 60mA @ +12v, -15mA @ -12V, no 5V
2 input, 4 output, 16bit [-5V,10V] range
Rear panel digital communication bus (ii)
full Lua scripting environment"

Orchestral Colours - Kria MIDI for Norns, Spitfire Tundra, Diva and Roli Noise & Seaboard

Published on Nov 18, 2018 junklight

"I've just finished porting Monome Kria from the eurorack module onto the Norns platform so it can drive MIDI (& other Norns things). This is such a deep and powerful sequencer and I'm quite excited about exploring it outside of Eurorack - written by Tehn from Monome it provides 4 separate tracks - every part of it has its own clock divider and length , there is also an alternate note page and an octave. Each track can produce quite incredibly complex sequences and with 4 going together you can make an a lot of music!

Here I have three channels of Kria driving some instruments from the wonderful Spitfire Tundra, and the 4th channel driving Diva. I'm also playing Noise SWAM clarinet from the seaboard (which you will note irritatingly loses it's connection at one point) . It's all recorded into Ableton but that's just hosting the instruments - no sequencing going from that side at all.

I'm going to be submitting the PR in the next day or two so any Norns users will have access to this fantastic sequencer"

some spooky late night music - Eurorack with Monome Kria & Ableton Wavetable

Published on Sep 4, 2018 junklight

"Still loving the old grids.

Kria is a nice sequencer - once you have a grid - Ansible is really good value - two decent sequencers and the Earthsea app as well.

The Ableton wavetable synth continues to be my new favourite wavetable based synth. It was pretty much bottom of my list of reasons to upgrade to 10 - 'why would I need that when I already have a ton of wavetables' but it's ace!"

The Ever Deepening Well of Sorrow & Loss // Monome Arc + Buchla Music Easel

Published on Mar 1, 2018 Genshi Media Group

"This started out as a test of the Monome Arc/Ansible module sequencing the two Oscillators of the Buchla Music Easel (via my custom made Eurorack to Buchla convertor module from Synovatron) while also sequencing Mutable Instruments Rings and Intellijel Plonk... it then turned into a pretty, but sad little tune. Additional background sounds/voices from Make Noise Morphagene. Effects from Mutable Instruments Clouds (on the Eurorack Modules) and Empress Effects Echosystem (on the Buchla.)"
