Le Metalique, tutorial

video upload by xilslab

Follow-up to LaPalme Reverie Ubukata

"Le Metallique is part of les Diffuseurs bundle, a set of two effects inspired by Martenot's speakers."

via xils lab

Les Diffuseurs

Ondes Martenot diffuseurs inspired reverb units.

2 Legendary speakers, La palme and Le Metallique

Les Diffuseurs (La Palme and Le Metallique bundle) are inspired by famous and highly unique speakers (called “diffuseurs”) that came with the Ondes Martenot, featuring a palm-shaped resonance chamber laced with 12 strings or a gong cabinet, which adds a specific metallic character to the Ondes Martenot sound.

With the help of Nori Ubukata and Yves Usson we reproduced these classic speakers, La Palme and Le Metallique. In addition, more possibilities have been added, such as the ability to mute any string, global transposition and real-time change of the gong's size.

But this was not enough!

The True Stereo Dynamic Engine ( TSDE ):

We pushed the concept even further by offering a True Stereo engine, so that you could position the two units, left and right, in a stereo image. True Stereo doesn’t mean a simple panoramic tool, with our TSDE you can place a speaker in front of the stereo field or farther back: You master the Space!

OLD MARTENOT WAVES SYNTHESIZER ( Pesquisa e História)

video upload by

"MAURICE MARTENOT

Onde Magnetique OM-1 CASSETTE SYNTH w/ Original Box & Tapes

Note auction links are affiliate links. See the site's privacy policy for more info.

See this post for demos.

"OM-1 CASSETTE SYNTH (2023). + ALL 9 cassette tapes

• 9 Sound Tape
• Built in AM/FM radio
• 5V Power Supply

Each unit is built to order by hand.

About the OM-1:

The OM-1 Cassette Synthesizer is an analog musical instrument built around the concept that when a continuous tone/note is recorded to tape, its pitch will change as the tape's playback speed is increased or decreased. Individual notes are playable via the 8 buttons (keys), each with a tuning knob directly above it. The volume of the notes can be articulated by using the pressure sensitive volume control - the harder its pressed, the louder the note. A switch selects between a short or long attack/release response of the audio output. CV/Gate inputs allow control over the cassette's pitch and volume from a linear (non-quantized) voltage sequencer.

While loosely inspired by instruments like the Mellotron® and Ondes Martenot, the OM-1 has a sound all its own. Because it uses a standard cassette tape as its audio source, the sound creation possibilities are endless. The OM-1 is engineered for experimentation.

One cool bonus on the new OM-1 is the built in radio which can be chopped up using the gate input. Here I’m sending a gate from the Korg SQ-1 and delay is provided by the lovely Polyphrase from Vongon Electronics. Great for creating experimental rhythms."

Superbooth 2023: Theresyn - Theresyn - Les DiffYUseurs

video upload by sonicstate

"We spoke to Nori Ubukata from Theresyn at Superbooth 2023 where he showcased his updated Therasyn instrument. The latest version has a more refined look than its predecessor with a different wood finish and is more aesthetically pleasing. The basic functionality of the Theresyn remains the same, however, some improvements have been made, such as the addition of pulse waves and the ability to choose the percentage of the pulse.

Theresyn's second model is Les DiffYUseurs, designed to simulate the sound system of an Ondes Martenot, it is a handcrafted instrument with a metal diffuser with two gong modes; one small and one larger gong, which have a different frequency response. The Diffuser also includes a reverb with tremolo effect that work together.

Les DiffYUseurs Price: €399,

Theresyn Price: €2,800.

NAMM 2023 - Eon-One.net - Netherblade

video upload by

"Eric Netherland of Eon-One.Net showed us the Netherblade, a MIDI controller that has a sound engine which can run any plug-in, be it samples, physical modeling, granular, digital, or any other type of plug-in. It has a real-time pitch bend feature that can bend any note to any other note polyphonically.

Eric handbuilds each Netherblade, and there are only a few of them in existence as he mostly builds them to order. The price range is between $2,400 and $2,700, depending on the CPU and memory and whether the customer wants a painted or natural finish. The Netherblade has three interface types: keyboard, Fretboard, and a grid for triggering drums and other sounds.

Netherblade Price: 2,400 - 2,700 USD

https://eon-one.net/netherblade_page...."

The Netherblade is a unique and expressive musical instrument. Stylish, precise, fast, and fun to play. This is the first MIDI controller that can accurately bend pitch from any note to any other note on a standard keyboard, fretboard or grid layout. There is virtually no learning curve for any keyboardist or guitarist although there are infinite open doors to create new techniques. Independent per-note pitchbending is seamless and fluid with nothing in the way of sliding to any interval in any direction whilst remaining in tune. Vibrato is natural and intuitive with no need for fixed LFO modulation. The instrument allows a players character to come thru so no two performances will sound exactly alike

Response time is lightning fast and, with no moving parts, can play faster than a standard keyboard.

Pitch and articulation are separated for easier control. With the integrated XYZ pad, you can simultaneously modify 3 MIDI controllable parameters while playing and bending notes in real time. Examples: volume, timbre, harmonics, muting, effects, etc. Additional switches provide octave up/down and configurable keyswitching.

The Tale of The Ondioline: Music's Oldest Synthesizer?

Note the first "synth" is debatable. The Telharmonium (1897), Ondes-Martenot (1928), Mixturtrautonium (1936), Novachord (1939), amongst others predated it. The Theremin, although not a keyboard instrument, but the inspiration if not the basis for Bob Moog's creations arrived in 1921. Therevox Ondes VCO + Hakken Continuumini

video upload by John Schussler

"My uCVC module has arrived from Evaton Tech. It's a CV converter that takes the USB output of the Hakken Audio Continuumini (little sibling to the Hakken Continuum keyboard) and breaks it into usable CV outputs.

I got it specifically to use with the Ondes VCO, because the original Ondes Martenot after which the Ondes VCO is modelled used a...well what to me appears to be a ring on a string. So a continuous pitch movement rather than quantized by keys. I already had the Continuumini, so figured it should be a perfect match.

This is me running through the various voices on the Ondes VCO and different pitch ranges on the Continuumini to see what we get.

For a sequencer-based demo, see my earlier video on the Ondes VCO:"

Ondes VCO from Therevox - Ondes Martenot in Eurorack format

video upload by

"This is a first look at the Ondes VCO. It just arrived, and I'm so pleasantly surprised by the sound that I figured I'd put a quick video up so others can hear it as well.

It's not a 'standard' VCO. Based on the Ondes Martenot, each of its voices are, on the one hand, traditional (sine, square, triangle), and on the other specifically treated to give a sound that's unique. And because it allows for onboard mixing of waves, all sorts of variety is possible.

I'll dig in deeper later, but for now, have a listen to some of the very particular voices that come out of this module.

01:28 Slow sequence

Therevox Ondes VCO eurorack module

video upload by NOISEBUG

https://www.noisebug.net/products/the...

"ONDES VCO

The Ondes VCO is a eurorack compatible re-creation of the original 7th generation Ondes Martenot oscillator with several improvements and additional synth-friendly features.

A RARE LEGEND RE-IMAGINED
The Ondes Martenot is one of the first electronic musical instruments, originally designed in 1928 by cellist and wartime radio telegrapher Maurice Martenot. In the 52 years that followed, the instrument was in continous development. By 1975 the vacuum tubes were replaced by solid state electronics allowing for many new and unique timbral combinations. We have revived these sounds from original schematics provided by and with guidance from Jean Landry, who was responsible for repairing many Ondes Martenot in Canada.

From the original discrete triangle core oscillator to the specialized wave shapers and mixing circuits, these sounds are now available for modular synthesis. The layout and function of each switch has been preserved to make this oscillator an ideal performance tool, and three independent switchable outputs can be used to patch unique destinations in the spirit of the Ondes Martenot's selectable Diffuseurs.

IMPROVED AND EXTENDED
Our Ondes VCO uses a temperature correcting pitch circuit, precision components, and also makes several improvements that increase stability over variations in voltage and temperature. For interfacing with the synth world, we have added a 1V/OCT pitch input, four position octave switch and three buffered outputs. We have also added two high-quality internal VCAs giving CV control over Octaviant (8) and Gambe (G) waveforms with illuminated level indication.

Silkscreened aluminum front panels are available in four different colours and combinations of industrial powder-coating and bead-blasted anodizing. All units go through final inspection and calibration by Therevox in Canada.

Silent Rain : Therevox, cello and Juno 6

video by Miguel d'Oliveira

"Finally had a chance to write for Therevox on a feature documentary score.

This Ondes Martenot brother thing is a future classic. Beautiful craftsmanship and lovely sound.

Ended up not using the Moog pedal and replaced it with a chorus plug-in.
Played a bit of cello just to add to the grit."
