GMedia Trump Cards
These have been out for a bit. I just stumbled accross them again. I need get me a couple of packs, one to open and explore and a couple to stash away.
Synthesizer.at
Nice synth site with workshops and a dedicated page on the Elka Synthex. Have to like that. Unfortunately I don't read German, so I'm missing out. : ( I ran into this site a couple of times but just recently discovered it again after seeing it on the Deep Synthesis Journal.

Clear Case SCI Pro One
Update: Via Carbon111 via the comments:
"That was a one-off I believe. Sequential made it for use in their full page ads for the Pro-one when it came out. "
Interesting. I never know that.
Looks like I'm on an SCI roll... The following isn't a clear Gleeman Pentaphonic, but actually an SCI Pro One. I forget where I got this shot. If you know please share and I'll update the post.

Pro One Samples
Title link takes you to a post on the Prophet 5 on VSE. Clustercord and CTB put up some great Pro One samples as an example of what the Prophet 5 rev 3.3 can sound like. The Pro One was in essence a one voice Prophet 5 rev 3.3.
SCI Prophet 5 Tribute Site
Great SCI Prophet 5 site I ran into on a VSE thread. I haven't seen it before. It is super rich in content including some history on Sequential Circuits, technical specs, sounds, original advertising, pictures, links and more. Definitely worth checking out.
ARP Mixer
Not a synth but interesting. Sent my way via Tom of Music Thing. Thanks Tom. As usual, I saved the auction shots and the title link takes you there. Some info from the auction below. : )
"On sale a real rare 8 channels vintage analog mixer from ARP, the brand of synthetizers such as the Odyssey and 2600. Arp produced this analog mixer for few months back in late ´70s, and no more than 300 units were made, making this auction an overrare opportunity to buy this great sounding mixer for a very friendly and attractive price. This mixer´dynamics and real warm sound make it a perfect tool for any modern´studio purposes, from mixing a rock/pop project to add warmth and evocative deepth to any electronic music. The item´electronic conditions are good, all the sliders and pots work and sound smoothly and clean and aesthetically the unit is okay. There are some scratches on the panel and on the wooden case, but, after more or less 30 years it´s been made, you shouldn´t ask for more!:-) Still, it sounds miles better than any modern mackie or soundcraft project studio desks, and looks really sexy too :-) Most of the people today don´t consider how important can be the use of a vintage mixer when producing in studio, because our ears already got usual to the flat and cold sound of modern mixers, even the good ones. So, this is a nice opportunity to add something special in your setup, without spending a fortune. Needless to describe Arp´brand hi-specs standards in synthetizers, sequencers, strings machine etc. Pure 100% quality, as this mixer reflects. Don´t miss it, you won´t see another one on sale in ages...! The mixer is in Berlin, germany, but I´ll ship worldwide. Paypal welcome. Happy Bidding!"

$120 Moog Modular
Yowsa! Via Sonic State, title link takes you there. Oh, the suspense... : )
"That's right. I'm a little teared up actually. Lemme tell the story...
So a couple weeks ago my buddy Robert says one of his friends has a Moog synth. I was shocked, considering the small size of this town. So I was pretty excited about checking it out. Today I met the owner, this is what he said, "yeah, it's a Moog (pronounced mooooog)- like it's got a bunch of jacks in the front that you plug 1/4" cables into." I almost shit my pants. I asked him what he paid for it- $75. So I offered to buy it. He couldn't figure out why I wanted this old pile of knobs so bad and gladly said he'd sell it. I'm going to offer him $120, that's all that I'm worth right now. I don't know how complete the system is, but it comes with a CV keyboard and we know for sure it makes noise. That's all he could tell me about it.
So I'm one happy motherf*cker right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm gonna call him in a little while to see if he'll sell it right away (before he finds out what it's worth!).
FINGERS CROSSED, let's hope this all goes through easily and the thing is is ok shape. He said it's small, so I'm expecting just the basics in terms of modules, but hopefully it's enough to be useful.
I'll report back in a little while.. "

EKO Ecosynth P15
Trip. Never saw one of these before. Up for auction on the *bay.
Description from auction:
"EKO EKOSYNTH P15
3 1/2 Octave Analog Monophonic Synthesiser made by EKO in Italy, in the late 70s or early 80s
Description:
This is a SERIOUSLY RARE monosynth.
It says "digital system" on the front panel, but that refers to the fact that most of the circuitry consists of Integrated Circuits rather than indivudual components.
There are 15 preset sounds (Hence, P15). You can play them as they stand, or switch the Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF), and Voltage Controlled Amplifier (VCA) into "manual" mode, and tweak the sound anyway you want. There is also a full LFO section, capable of affecting the Oscillator, and the Filter. (Wah Wah and Tremolo). The VCO functions can be delayed as well. (as per Roland Juno)!
It is strictly monophonic, ie you can play one note at a time.
Construction:
This machine is built into a heavy-duty flightcase, constructed from wood, and sheet steel. The case also has a vinyl coating. It's heavy!"

Ray Kurzweil Remembers Bog Moog
Ray Kurzweil on Wired. Amazing reflection on Bob Moog's impact on him including his inspiration prior to Kurzweil Music Systems and on to Bob's stay at Kurzweil. It's personal, professional and purel respectful. This is one of those articles where I had a tough time picking a quote for the post, I litteraly wanted to qoute every single paragraph. Title link takes you there.
"The Bob Moog I knew, however, wasn't focused on his pivotal role in music history. He was motivated by his love for invention, for applying electronics to music, and for interacting with the musicians who used his technology. He had a rare combination of talents: an intuition for signal processing and an equally clear sense of the language of music."
Link came in on AH from David Vandenborn.

"Based on the the Tritons Hyper Integrated sound engine, the 64MB wave ROM (twice that of the original Triton) is packed with new sounds, plus some of the Korg classics, the TR bucks the Korg usual silver look by being “sleek and black” as they put it. The TR features a 16 track sequencer, sampler and effects section and adds USB MIDI plus SD card data storage."

Voyager Acid
A little raw Voyager acid with Roland TR-909 and MC-09. Right click title link and save - 2.2M MP3.
Details:
Starts with modulation at zero then I start messing with the mod wheel (subtle to give it a little motion), nothing else. I suck at playing and recording, so apologies for the quality. It sounds much better on my monitors. I was just messing around with this and thought I'd share.
Details:
- Roland TR-909
- Roland MC-09 Phrase Lab (synced to 909 and just running the preset Patch 01 bass line).
- The MC-09 audio out straight into the Voyager
- Voyager filters set to 1 Pole
- Voyager modwheel set to random LFO to Filter
- LFO synced to 909 set at 6
- Cutoff set at 1k
- Resonance set at 6
- Spacing at 0
- OSC 1, 2, 3 and Noise on the Voyager set to 0, so this is all MC-09
- No effects/processing. Just raw via a Tascam US-428 USB audio in
- Wave converted to MP3

Prophet 5 Shots
Update: Tim updated the synth to a 3.3 with the 120 memories. Price is the same.
SCI Prophet 5 for sale. Title link takes you to more shots saved for posterity. Details below including contact info if you are interested.
"Due to unfortunate circumstances, I need to sell off one of my Prophet 5s.
This one is in fairly nice shape, with one blemish. It looks like it
might have been stored on it's end under less than favorable conditions
at some time, so the right hand end panel is a bit "weathered". It's
definitely something that could be easily sanded and restained. Also
the paint on the metal base is peeling off a bit in that area on the
bottom, but this is an easy one to solve. Aside from that it's in very
nice shape.
I was planning on refinishing the end and keeping it, but I really can't
at this point.
I need to sell this one off QUICKLY, so I'm pricing it at $1350 and will
only accept payment by Paypal. I'm looking to wrap this one up right away.
Additionally, if someone wants to pay an additional $50, I'll do the 3.3
upgrade to take it up to the 120 programs before I ship it out.
It's a really nice Prophet, and I hate to sell off gear, but this one
has to go.

Steiner Master's Touch filter/cv/gate Breath Controller
Interesting piece currently on the *bay. Title link takes you to shots saved for posterity.
From the auction: "This auction is for one vintage Steiner (Crumar) Master's Touch breath controller in great functional and okay cosmetic condition. Basically it's a voltage controlled resonant filter (VCF) and voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) with rubber tubes and mouthpieces that you use to control the cutoff ("S.E.D." in Steiner terminology) and gate the volume. Runs on 110V US voltage and has built in power supply/cord.
There's an input for an audio signal to be processed by the VCF and VCA, and outputs for the processed, dry and mixed signals. CV outputs are also generated by the mouthpieces ("breath" and "bite") and these can be used to control external synthesizers or effects via cv or pedal inputs. There is also a little rubber pad by which you can generate CV via a fingertip along with both positive (v-trig for old Rolands and Arps) and short-to-ground (s-trig for old Moogs, Korgs and Yamahas) gate outputs available simultaneously. Little red LEDS show the status of the trigger and breath outputs. Very versatile and incorporates very well with any modular system. Extremely easy to use. "

Electric Music Box
Amazing new Buchla site containing a wealth of Buchla information and services. There is a drop down list of modules including detailed information and images.
Electric Music Box offers repairs and restorations of classic Buchla intruments, as well as the purchase, selling and trading of these rare and coveted pieces.
Note: Rick asked me to note that he had to whip the site up quickly as Keyboard Magazine linked to it; currently Mac Safari and Firefox are a bit flakey. He is aware of the problem and will fix it when he gets a chance. IE works fine.

Chris Strellis - The Release featured on Arturia
Back on September 6, 2005 Chris Strellis gave me the go ahead to post his tribute to the late Bob Moog, titled The Release. It's an amazing track using the Arturia Minimoog and Modular V soft synths along with samples of Bob Moog. Arturia just put it up under their The Highlight of the Month section. If you haven't heard the track yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. It is one of the best tributes to the late Bob Moog that I've heard; a beautiful and powerful piece. I do not like to favor one person's tribute over another, but this really is THE tribute piece in my opinion. The samples and flow of the piece are breathtaking, especially with the samples of Bob and finally when the pads come in. When the pads do come in, I can't help but think of Bob's passing and his release from our world and time. Title link takes you there - scroll down to the bottom of the page for a link to the track (if you catch this post after the link is gone, you can also check out my old post which includes some comments from Chris Strellis as well). And of course there is Chris Strellis' website.

Buchla 700
Shot of the Buchla 700 of the Audities Collection. Sent to me from rick, echo7even. Thanks rick!
Update: More on the Buchla 700
Snip from More on the Buchla 700:
"THE 700'S ARCHITECTURE includes four dedicated computers, each of a different nature, and each optimized to its particular function. The nerve center of the instrument is a general purpose digital computer. Responsible for user communication, data processing, and supervisory control, this "host" computer can be programmed to accommodate varied musical needs.
A second computer "massages" incoming data. It directs conversion of analog voltages into digital form, discards redundant information, and transmits essential data to the host computer.
Receiving instructions and data from the host, a third computer (called the multiple arbitrary function generator) directs the instantaneous progress of 190 acoustic variables, each with a time resolution of 1/2000 of a second. This facility enables specification of complex sonic detail and extends the possibilities for expressive control.
A fourth computer, essentially a pipelined digital signal processor (DSP), is responsible for producing the 700's twelve voices. Built into this computer are unusually powerful algorithms for sound generation, including frequency modulation, waveshape interpolation, and timbre modulation (unique to the Buchla, this technique significantly augments the electronic vocabulary."
