WikiRecoording.org
Via E Jeff Enowski. Title link takes you there. Thanks Jeff!
"I've started up a wiki, based on the wikipedia engine, that is a free guide to audio recording. Its called WikiRecording.org. As is par for the course with a wiki, its under the same GNU license as Wikipedia and anyone can edit it. We have not only have technical information, but tutorials as well.
We've had some help from the people at TapeOp and some University professors who teach audio recording and now we have about 50 articles on the site (and it is still in its first week and a half of operations.)
We could really use some articles about all things Synth. I mean, "Moog" hasn't shown up on the site yet in anyway shape or form. That just seems wrong! I'm sure you're reader base would enjoy the site and with any-luck bring some expertise along with them. "
Have at it. : )

20% of Essential Retro
If you've been waiting on getting Essential Retro now might be a good time. Looks like you can get 20% off if you buy it from the official site and enter retrothing in the coupon code box. Title link takes you to the post on Retro Thing. BTW, I get nothing out of this. I just like supporting anyone that supports synths. : ) The cool thing about Retro Thing and the book is that James is reaching people that may not have otherwise been exposed to the world of synthesis. The book has one whole chapter dedicated on what we love, and James mixes in a bit of synth on his retro blog. Pretty cool and definitely worth supporting in my book.

Cyndustries & Modcan Modular and Milton Sequencer
Title link takes you to the cyndustries site. The image below is Les Mizzell's Cyndustries and Modcan modular. The mix is about 40% Modcan and 60% Cyndustries. The Modcan A-Series format Milton sequencer was designed by Peter Grenader of EAR and Buzzclick Music, built by Cynthia. The Modcan A-Series format Milton sequencer is relatively rare, it's the large/wide panel on top.
Click for a bigger image.
Les is selling the Milton sequencer for $1500. He is also selling a Modcan 10A multimode filter for for $225. If you are interested you can contact him at lesmizz[]bellsouth.net.

The Mutant Vactrol Filter
Unfortunately no shots. More info and sound samples after the hop.
"The Mutant Filter is so named because at its heart is the Sallen-Key structure of two Buchla Low Pass Gates, with the embellishments of an expo current sink and a resonance clipper similar to that found in the Korg MS-20 filter. It is not a clone or an adapation - it's more of a mutation, an almagm metasticized from disparate elements. The result is a filter that can be sublime, organic, raucous or downright mean. At times it can be sublimly organic in its raucous mean-ness. Its sounds are legion, and the samples on this page are just a taste of the beauty and weirdness that can be wrought from it."

Blacet Design Contest
Via Blacet.
"We have an extreme excess of Multi panels (do to a series of unfortunate events!).
Rather than toss them, perhaps someone out there can figure out a module that would use *only* the existing holes (we can strip and rescreen the printing).
There are 5 jack holes and one pot hole. You can look at the panel here:
http://www.blacet.com/multi.html
You don't have to draw up any schematics; just figure out the general purpose and label the panel.
I don't know what the prize will be yet but it will be something good, depending on the "brilliance" of the concept.
I reserve the right to forget the whole thing if no one comes forth with anything useable!
Send entries to blacet@blacet.com with "Blacet Contest" in the subject line. You can send a .jpg and/or a written description.
Contest ends upon my whim."

Two Arp 2500 on Larking's List
Not sure how Larking's List works, but it looks like these were for sale rather than auction for a mere $9000 US. Note that the listing is reserved. Title link takes you to the shots. Details below. Via Music Thing.
"2x ARP series 2500 Analogue music synthesizers Model 2515 Two of the very earliest and very few surviving working 60’s synths. These musical instruments are in upright ‘welsh dresser’ cabinets, fully loaded with a range of sound generating, filtering, gating, envelope generating modules, cross-patching signals between which will produce almost any sound imaginable – not by instant recall of factory pre-set or pre-sampled voices but by hours of fun manually cross-patching control voltages and tweaking every nuance of sound until you find your own perfect hand-made sound. This instrument’s contemporary the Moog (remember the front of the “Switched on Bach” album?), when patched up resembled an old fashioned telephone switchboard of tangled jack leads. Not so the ARP, which has a clever array of sliding switches top and bottom of the Welsh Dresser enabling tidy selection of the majority of sane patches at a glance. Patch sockets are still provided, however for way-out patches even ARP might never have thought of – but your creativity should remain unlimited by the spaghetti! The base of the instrument contains the 5 octave keyboard, split with lower register featuring black and white keys reversed – distinctive ARP feature. Working machines like these are very rare indeed – we’re talking rocking horses dropping foals, here. Complete with original ARP Manuals."

This reminds me of the color Bob brought to our lives. Hats off you you Mark Pulver. Simply amazing. Mark Pulver Moog Tattoo

Mini is up for Sale
Title link takes you to shots and content pulled from this auction.
"This is a unique Mini with some history behind it. It's serial number 1159, which would indicate it to be the 159th Mini ever made. This is even before Keith Emerson or Rick Wakeman owned one!"
"The unit was originally sold in mid 1971 to Carroll Musical Instruments, NY as a direct order for the Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar. This is the original JC Superstar Minimoog."

Great way to decompress. Title link takes you to the site with podcast. Via Inverse Room.
Update from Inverse Room on the shot above:
"I'm standing next to Malcolm Cecil's TONTO, the famous Moog/Serge/Oberheim/ARP/homemade synth on all those Stevie Wonder records. I was interviewing Malcolm for TapeOp magazine a while back and got to see the great beast!"
"Dear Friends--
It's time for another of my episodes of Creot Radio--volume 42, AMBIENT
CREOT. This podcast consists of 50 minutes of langourous loops,
reverb'd strings, echoing guitars and synth pads as thick as a
mattress. Also, extra points if you can find the pitch-shifted hair
dryer. I'll be introducing each song in a soothing voice that
guaranteed to lull you into a false sense of personal well-being. The
podcast has just been posted and will be up all week.

The End of The Museum of Synthesizer Technology
Here's another find I'm left wondering how the heck I never ran into until now. Title link takes you to a fascinating Sound on Sound article on Martin Newcomb and The Museum of Synthezier Technology. The craziest thing? No one came to it over time! He eventually ended it due to lack of interest and repair costs. He sold off most of the gear to Turnkey; the gear is now part of their vintage collection. Amazing story.
"The Museum of Synthesizer Technology succeeded in putting together what was, at the time, the world's largest collection of analogue synths, but Martin was dismayed to find that this did not guarantee public interest. So was it a failure? "Yes," he told me, "it failed. In retrospect, I liken it to St Paul's Cathedral. Everyone thinks it's great that St Paul's is there, but they assume that it's always going to be there and never bother to go and see it. The Museum was like that. All the people came along in the first couple of years and, after that, the only support came from America, Germany and, to a lesser degree, Japan. I tried to organise things like tours from college music departments, but the response was always, 'You're too far away,' or 'I'll make an effort at some point but not at the moment.'"
"Go to Turnkey and have a look at their collection — almost all of that came from the Museum."
Update via Tom in the comments: "And Turnkey got rid of their collection a while ago... " That's right. I forgot about that.

The Electronic Peasant's LED Organ
"Here is a new version of the classic color organ, where different color lights are triggered by different frequencies of sound, resulting in a display that flashes along to music. In this case the newer type high intensity LEDs (3000 - 5000mcd) were used along with a very simple discrete transistor drive circuit. The design goals included small size and excellent portability, as well as long battery life." Title link takes you there.
