rare birds: Powertran Transcendent 2000 with sub oscillator mod

video upload by ohm_studi_ohm

"Here is a Powertran Transcendent analog synth I just serviced.
I took the opportunity to make some modifications, mainly adding a sub oscillator circuit.
I used a simple 4024 chipset and routed the -1 and -2 octave outputs to the "noise" volume pot with a 3 positions switch so that I can chose either octave sub or the Noise generator as the source for that pot.
I also made modification to the CV and gate circuit which originally are not the common 1v/octave V-trigger kind.
Now it can be used with any standard CV / gate interface.
And last modification was a lighter one: adding a LFO rate blinking led.
Very nice synth, capable of quite a wide range of sound thanks to dual resonant filter mode (Low Pass / Band Pass), S+H, repeating enveloppe, PWM etc … and now with a sub oscillator :-)

PS: this synth is not unstable in pitch. If you look carrefully you'll notice there is a slight amount of lfo (saw) modulation applied to the OSC pitch almost all the time"

Super Lazy Sci Fi Soundtrack 3 - SmplTrek Liven MEGA Korg Volca Keys NTS1

video upload by ChrisLody

"The Synth Tray 2 saga continues. It's now grown a little to include a battery bank to power the NTS-1 that you can see tucked under the cables behind the SmlpTrek. This has 2 outputs so it's also able to power my handmade midi thru box now I've made a cable for it, you can see it at the top right. I've also added a Little Bear MC5 mixer which is sat behind the ELZ_1 play. This is really just a temporary fix because I plan to replace it with a Bastl Bestie when I can justify dropping £200 on one.

So a bit about how this is all setup. The SmplTrek is controlling all the midi in this setup with multiple midi tracks set to different channels. The midi out goes to the midi thru splitter box which then connects into the Liven MEGA and Korg Volca Keys. The SmplTrek is also playing the deep pad from the beginning which was sampled out of the ELZ_1 play into it, and the drum loop. When I'm using this in a sofa session I mix the external gear on the Little Bear MC5 and monitor all the audio through the SmplTrek and usually add a little of my send effect to the output, but this time when I recorded it for this video I connected all the separate instrument outputs to my audio interface instead to give me a greater level of control over the final mix.

The Korg Volca connects through the NTS1 in this jam and I'm using the Hammond Eggs Music - Haze reverb. It contains a high pass filter so it's great for making top end pad/string type sounds. I checked this list of available plugins for the NTS1 recently and found loads of new stuff I didn't know about. Mine is absolutely full now :)

I'm using the ELZ_1 play to play the Liven MEGA here and using the LFO set to a speed of zero as a upward pitch bend. The current firmware of the ELZ_1 play has no 'local control off' function which makes it hard to use as a controller and sound module while composing in a setup like this as playing external midi channels also triggers the internal sound engine. I've suggested adding 'local control off' as an option, so fingers crossed for that one.

The MiniDisc player isn't really part of the setup I've been using, but it was nice to see it fit neatly with everything else :) I was planning to record the output down a global track on the SmplTrek, but they're mono so the ambience lost something when I did that, so I resorted to just playing it live and looping the track. The ambient recording is of my home town of Boston, Lincolnshire, UK.

The NTS1 is being used as an insert effect here (the Volca Keys is passing straight through) but once I buy a Bastl Bestie there is a way to use that in a send/return configuration which will be very useful from such a smaller mixer."

ASM Hydrasynth - Crazy Machine [SOUNDSET] • Custom Presets

video upload by Mr. Card

"My private collection of crazy sounds (Arpeggio, Sequence) dedicated to ASM Hydrasynth. I’ve always loved fat, twisted sequences and deep, hypothetical arpeggios. I decided to create them using one of my favorite synthesizers. I really like Hydrasynth for its functionality and sound. With this soundset, you can take your instrument to the next level. From scratch - Needles ๐Ÿงต (Perfourmer Mk2 + Superego+ + H9 // Deco v2 // Simplifier Dlx // Hapax)

video upload by 2-Minute Warning

"This is a 'from scratch' jam featuring only one instrument, the Vermona Perfourmer Mk2, 4-voice analog synth. I've used its individual outputs for the BASS which is being saturated with the Deco v2 pedal, and LEAD through the Simplifier Dlx analog amp.
The PLUCK riff is being fed into the Superego Plus synth-freeze engine and H9 delay.

The PLUCK and BASS are being sequenced and the LEAD played live on the Hapax hardware sequencer.

I used the RANDOMIZER and SCALE MIDI effects of the Hapax in order to transpose occasionally and randomly the PLUCK (for the riff to be a bit more interesting ๐Ÿ˜Š).
The PLUCK is also being turned sometimes into a PAD when I activate (green button) the Superego+ pedal."

Chasing Ghosts

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Hi All,
It's been a while since my last video and it will take a while to get back into the routine. I came down with a flu from hell and I've been out of order for two weeks. It's the first time since 2020 and I can't remember flu hitting this hard, not being able to sleep, eat, listen to modulars or watching TV. I tested negative on Covid-19, but maybe it's Covid-24. Who knows.

On January 30 I posted the 'Where's the Easel' video. I made a decision to go for Eurorack in 2020 and 'never' wander Buchla's official banana path. So while it's easier to just buy an Easel, spending $6K in a different universe is just not an option. So the Quest continues.

This is a video full of dead ends. I was pretty convinced I could approximate the Buchla with Endorphin.es Shuttle System and the Sensel Morph controller but only got one aspect of it. Using the Beatstep Pro only confirmed how important that Electronic Music Box touch keyboard is.

It confirmed how close the Shuttle is to the Easel Command, and yet so far away. I thought the Verbos Touch Keyboard would be a solution, but it was not. I found a used one, but it felt unresponsive and didn't track pitch. Fortunately I managed to calibrate it, but my fingers and touchplates are not compatible.

Again, tunnel vision made me completely overlook the Buchla LEM 218E V3 touch keyboard - which now comes with Eurorack outputs on the side. So I took a leap of faith and ordered the 218E. Hopefully the Quest comes to an end just before March, hoping the Easel is more than a Eurorack ghost. Speaking of Ghosts, I also tried to fit the Endorphin.es Ghost delay in the Shuttle, another dead end, which are actually u-turns. This was a tough video to make for many reasons and it felt like chasing ghosts. It's all over the place. But I think I am getting somewhere now, and learned a lot."
