Intellibent Design Patchable Circuit Bent Casio MT-540 MIDI Synth

via this auction
"featuring 42 unique bend points in one patch bay type configuration. connecting any 2 points together will cause all sorts of bizarre effects. glitches drones-cut up rhythms-aleatoric excursions into AMBIENT HEAVEN!

there are 4 'patches' located in GREEN pairs around the 42 (silver) bend points. you can modulate the amount of interaction between any set of bending points by routing separate bend points through the patches. there are 2 special fine tune-10 turn knobs/pots and 2 standard tune pots located on the far right where the speaker USED to be. both internal speakers have been removed to make room for the added parts.

TRIGGERING BENDS WITH THE ADDED PUSH BUTTONS
each of the 4 'patches' first gets routed through a potentiometer to dial in a desired amount of short circuiting mayhem... then by flipping the switch for a patch you stop the bending which causes the machine to play normal again---you can then trigger the bending at the dialed in amount with the BLUE push button for that patch.

located on the back are 2 reset buttons (one for battery operation the other for AC adapter power) for when the machine crashes and cannot be reset by simple on/off switching. I also have added a new DC jack as the one that Casio put on there just isn't very good!"

Univox Jazzman JM115 Vintage Keyboard by Crumar

via this auction

"Here is a super hip and rare electric piano up for your consideration. The polyphonic 61 key Univox Jazzman JR115 keyboard was made by Crumar in Italy and was introduced in 1974. It was only produced for a few years, so this keyboard is definitely mid-70's. The two low octaves have their own level control which is helpful for blending these octaves with the upper three. While this is not the exact same model of Univox that Dr. John played on his 1973 smash hit "Right Place, Wrong Time," this Jazzman provides the same dirty harpsichord sound used on the song's intro. Every key on this 5 octave keyboard produces a sound, aside from the low F. The two low F#s only produce a kick drum sound, and the high E does not seem to project the same sounds that the neighboring keys do. The keyboard is in good shape, although is does show some wear. One of the hinges for the lid is missing a screw as well. Overall, it is an easy to use vintage keyboard that allows you to tweak the tones just enough to help you dial in sounds. This could be ideal for the home recorder or studio that is looking for a unique vintage key sound. There is a Wiki page for Crumar, if you would like to read up on the company's history."

Endangered Audio Gristleizer - Throbbing Gristle Synth/Effects Box

via this auction

"The Gristleizer is either an lfo modulated VCA or VCF with adjustable Bias and variable wave-forms for the LFO. This Endangered Audio research effect is officially endorsed by Throbbing Gristle and offers everything from a classic analog tremelo effect to wild CV control throbbing woops from the variable VCF...

Background from the manufactures :
ASHEVILLE, NC APRIL 27, 2009ó Smashing Guitars has announced the release of the first of their new product line, the Gristleizer. The flagship of the newly formed Endangered Audio (a subsidiary of Smashing Guitars), the Gristleizer is an extremely rare and unique unit. Originally designed by Roy Gwinn in 1976, the Gristleizer is based on a design published in Practical Electronics and sold in kit form by Phonosonics. Chris Carter of the British industrial music and visual arts group Throbbing Gristle modified the kit in 1977, unleashing what is known as the Gristleizer. Lost to time, the unit has been re-designed and produced by Smashing Guitars Owner/Engineer Todd Kelley, with assistance from Charlie Howes. After months of research and consultation with Gwinn and Carter, the audio path has been kept original-- "we've taken what people love about the sounds of the original Gristleizer, and given them much more" says Kelley. The Gristleizer had its initial release at the sold out Throbbing Gristle performance at Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago on April 25, 2009, one of their first performances in the USA in 28 years."

Arp Omni 2

via this auction

"This Arp Omni 2 was recently serviced and all the tantalum caps replaced by Bay-Area pro tech Chris Hewitt. (Who sent the photos of the inside of the board).

It sounds amazing. It has the famous Arp string sounds used by Joy Division, New Order, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, the Cars, etc. There are a couple of really deep chorus settings "Hollow Wave" and "Chorus Phaser" that make this synth famous.

It also has incredible Bass sounds- really LOUD, punchy and warm.

The synthesizer settings allow for creating very musical, spacey sounds, especially using the resonant VCF and the LFO. Also cool is the separate outputs for "Strings," "Synth," and "Bass" in addition to the main "mixed" output. This way, you can process each part through different effects, and send them to different amps. Really cool feature, especially for live playing.

Some notes about the condition of this synth: I am not a tech, but the synth appears to function as designed. The keys play well and are in good shape. They are not perfectly even, and some show minor wear and tear- a scratch here, a mark there. ALL of the voice settings work and sound great. The highest key does not produce sound. Some slider caps are missing.

This is a beautiful old synth."

"The low pass VCF in this is the same as the 4035:

'Overview This is a classic "moog" transistor ladder low pass filter with the usual 4-poles and 24dB cutoff. In 1974 ARP went back to their "moog" filter design (the 4012 module used in the 2600) and updated it to use transistor array chips and put it into the Odyssey as the 4035, and the Pro-Soloist and Explorer 1 as the 4034. This two modules are virtually identical and both are temperature compensated.'"

In Amazon Japan, a revised book is still available. [link
- note the cover is different]

This book is not beautiful because figures are gray, but it is still great because
it includes history of not-famous Japanese experimental and popular electronic music."

Update via the world of next tuesday in the comments: "The first version seems to have come out in 1997. It's about just what the title says "electronic music in Japan", it's not a book about Japanese Analog Synths. The cover of the first edition says 1955-1981, maybe that was the first edition. I have the second edition from 2001 with the grey cover. It covers up until 1987. I see the last entry in the back page timeline says "D-50" then "M1" under an otherwise blank 1988. I found it in NYC in the mid 2000s. It contains a CD of example recordings dating from 1969-1987 and it's about 600 pages long. There are hundreds of very small pictures averaging about an inch, 1.25" square and b&w. There are some synth shots that size but nothing to really study. Maybe about 20 pages are color and the bulk of the 100s of images are album covers. It covers a lot of Non Japanese albums for context. The author did a second book in 2005 called "Electronic Music in the Lost World". It has a lot more small color images of vintage electronic music albums."

via wolfgangpalm.com where you'll find an audio demo.

"Building up on my simulations of the Waveterm system, I assembled a demo disk with new wavetables and resonators. These were generated by analysis software, which I developed over the years. I could only dream of those tools in the old days! (1979) Today I can calculate wavetables in the optimal numerical range (limited by the 0-63 range) or can generate reasonable resonators. I did not enter the data by hand, but “injected” it directly into the waveterm by the simulator, and then saved it to the simulated disk. There is one version for the Waveterm-B and also one for the Waveterm-A.
Lars Johansson makes real floppy disks from the images I gave him. Infos can be obtained from him."

MFB-DOMINION X Details and Specs

via mfberlin
* Programmable Analogue Synthesizer
* 3 VCOs with wave shaping and ring modulation
* Dual-Sync and Dual-FM features
* 6-fold multimode-filter including 3 low pass configurations with 12/18/24 dB
* patch-section for external CV/Gate-control
* Velocity routing matrix with 11 destinations
* 3 LFOs with 2 LFOS offering one-shot-modes and reset
* MSRP: 780,- Euro

DOMINION X is MFB’s latest synthesizer. It combines analogue synthesis, programmability and modular patching. With advanced circuits, increased functionality and a new design, DOMINION X is the first of MFB’s next generation musical instruments.

DOMINION X offers three oscillators for maximum flexibility. Each waveform can be varied in symmetry. Besides altering the pulse width of a rectangle, you may also continuously turn a saw tooth into a triangle and a triangle into a sine. All oscillators also offer ring modulation. In addition, VCO 2 and VCO 3 can be synced to VCO1. Finally, VCO3 can modulate the frequency of VCO 1 and VCO 2. The analogue oscillator circuit is processor-controlled for stable tuning. To complete the available sound sources, noise or an external audio input can be added to the VCOs in DOMINION X’s mixer section.

The filter offers six operation modes. Available are three low pass variations with 12, 18 and 24 dB/oct. slopes. Also available are high pass-, band pass and a notch filter with slopes of 12 dB/oct. respectively 6 dB/oct. Variable filter modulations are possible via an invertible envelope, keyboard tracking, LFO, VCO, different MIDI controllers as well as by the use o the CV-input.

The two ADSR-type envelops are internally routed to the VCF- and VCA-sections. In addition, envelope 1 can also modulate the VCO section. LFOs 1 and 2 offer six waveform shapes including sample & hold. They may be switched to one-shot-modes to emulation simple envelopes. A third sine-LFO works in combination with a keyboard's modulation wheel and can dynamically address the VCO, VCF and VCA sections.

Modulations are assigned by the use of selector switches, located at the destinations. This allows easily setting and re-routing internal modulation paths – ideally for your live-performance.

To integrate external modulators, control- and audio sources, DOMINION X offers nine inputs. Therefore, oscillators, filter, VCA, CV/Gate and mixer can be easily combined with other analogue synthesizers such as MFB’s MEGAZWERG, analogue sequencers such as MFB’s URZWERG PRO or modular synthesizer systems.

An additional selector switch allows assignment of velocity for up to eleven modulation destinations.

DOMINION X offers 128 programmable patches for your personal sound creations. To support sound programming without an attached keyboard, different demo sequences are available. To use DOMINION X as a filter box for external audio sources, the VCA can be opened permanently. Finally, there is an insert available to integrate an effect or distortion unit into the signal path.

DOMINION X has the following dimensions: 330 x 170 x 60 mm. An external power supply is included."

I would venture it might well be due to its huge expression possibilities applied to the strikingly wonderful quality of its presets. Flower Electronics Little Boy Blue Deluxe

via this auction Close-up of the control sheet below. "The Flower Electronics Little Boy Blue Deluxe is a boutique synthesizer made by musician/sound artist Jessica Rylan. It was made in a limited edition, I purchased mine in 2006, and is no longer available from the manufacturer (i.e. pretty rare/collectable). Details are archived here - http://flowerelectronics.com/Deluxe.html Features: 2 voltage controlled oscillators, manual and voltage control of oscillator wave shapes, 1/4" input with variable gain, envelope follower with optional inverter, 2 channel mixer, intermodulating output stage, stylish oiled fir case LBB Deluxe runs on 2 9v batteries (supplied). Current drain is low, typically offering 50+ hours of battery life. The circuitry is hand-built with premium parts, using discrete transistors, no chips. Instruments are supplied with a set of banana cables for patching. Input and output are via standard 1/4" connectors. Output is a hot line level, for extra buzz. I have used this extensively for shows and recordings with the bands The Failed NASA Experiment, Black Stepdad, Lustfaust, Yajé, Evils, Fredrick Stanley Star and The (plexus) Collective. What that means is that whilst it has been well used it is really, really, really well built and has never failed. It is still in full working order and sounds as wicked as the day it was first bought. It has suffered a few scuffs and dents along the way and I have documented these in the pictures above to the best of my ability and these haven't affected the functionality at all. There are some sound samples on this page - http://flowerelectronics.com/Standard.html Here are some various videos to give you an idea of seeing it in action with other equipment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fET6naTUrfc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42SpcCP8a5w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC0Gz4PYndU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJz1KMg8BDc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfakMBKEag8 So it's a noisy little bugger ideally suited for power electronics, ambient noise and experiment scunge etc. It's great for effecting vocals/guitars/keys/etc or as a standalone sound/chaos generator.
