"Download or stream the audio at SoundCloud: http://snd.sc/Q0TdiP

A live looping improv jam with analog keyboards, USB controllers, and iOS devices. The left iPad is running Lemur, wirelessly controlling Ableton Live's mixer. The 2nd iPad is running PPG WaveGenerator, receiving MIDI from an Oxygen 49 via an iConnectMIDI. A MIDI Fighter 3D is controlling Ableton's loopers. An Akai MPD26 is triggering NI's Massive, and an Akai APC20 and Novation Launchpad are controlling the recording and playback of loops in Ableton. A third iPad is also wirelessly running Lemur next to a Fender Rhodes and Moog Prodigy. All audio is passed through a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro running Ableton Live.

All loops are recorded live, nothing was pre-recorded."

'74 ARP 2600 SN 261306 & 3620 KEYBOARD SN 361306R

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated. via this auction

"For your consideration is this vintage 1974 ARP 2600 series "2600P" analog synthesizer and matching "3620" keyboard. This particular set, serial numbers 261306 and 361306R, is in very good all original condition and includes the original cases and the original gray power cable. The ARP 2600 is considered the absolute benchmark in compact analog semi-modular synthesis. Extremely versatile, and capable of producing a seemingly indefinite amount of both classic and modern synth sounds, the 2600 has become the standard by which other synths are measured. Some sellers ask upward of $9,000.00 for comparable synths, but we decided to offer this example to the highest bidder, with a $.01 Minimum, No Reserve, Free USA Shipping, and discounted Worldwide delivery! So place a bid now, because this synth will be sold to the highest bidder... regardless of price!

Played, and made famous, by a veritable who's who of modern music, the ARP 2600 can be heard on albums by: John Lennon, Stevie Wonder, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Frank Zappa, Herbie Hancock, Steve Miller, The Beastie Boys, Cat Stevens, The Who, Depeche Mode, U2, and an ever-expansive alumnus of artists whom have featured this amazing synth in their music.

Though not in pristine cosmetic condition, this is a fantastic original specimen for a player looking to acquire a fully functional unit. It was recently purchased from the original owner, who actually owned 3 different 2600s (one of which we just sold last week for $8,000.00), and was maintained and serviced by him throughout his lengthy ownership.

There are no modifications, no repairs, no breaks, and no missing pieces. Some of the fastening hardware was possibly replaced with alternate washers, otherwise, all of the important sliders, slider tips, modules, etc., are entirely original. The 3620 keyboard is in great shape, works perfectly, and has nicely aligned tempered action.

This early-production second version of the 2600 features the coveted 4012 filter which copied Moog's patented ladder-filter design, later ending in a legal dispute which forced ARP to change their faulty 4072 filters in 1977."

"WoW! This is one of the few and working EMS Polysynthi, produced between the '78 and 79 in ONLY 29 exemplars!!! As far I know the last Peter Zinovieff work. Space look... totally amazing to see, its sound is magic! It's fully polyphonic with built in analog delay and chorus (both CV/keyboard touch controllable) Two cv-lfo's with many combinations, modulable also from keyboard aftertouch, filter is very very nice selectable from 2 to 4 poles, envelope follower for external signals and many other features. For me is one of the best polyphonic synthesizers ever made with unique sound and an incredible look. It's perfect working, just well tested another time but due the vintage nature of this instrument I'll sell it as seen..."

Raspberry Pi on the iPad

Thought this was an interesting note on the iPad via the Raspberry Pi Synthesizer blog:

"I just ran up Piana - actually Polyana as she wasn't running on a Pi - on an iPad for the first time, and deliberately used my old 1st generation iPad to make sure the comparison wasn't grossly unfair, just highly unfair. And even so, the performance and in particular the low latency on the iPad is remarkable. 8 voices, only consuming around 50% of the CPU, and insanely low latency.

None of which is that surprising - iOS has been carefully engineered to allow low latency audio apps to be delivered, the iPad has I think an 800MHz A8, so should be approaching 2x faster than the Pi across the board. But really, latency this low and 8 voices, with ultra-short buffers so much more CPU overhead per packets delivered out of the synth. It creamed it.

All of which means I just need to find ways to get the Pi to live up to its promise - an 800 MHz ARM 11 should be delivering a lower latency experience than I am getting, so more digging in needs to be done, maybe into tuning the Linux up. But now I know what it should play like, and if I can get there it will be awesome, because on the iPad it is awesome."

Parallel Worlds and Dave Bessell - 'Morphogenic'

"DiN41 | 2012 | Limited to 500 copies

Release date 30th October 2012
Morphogenic sees a new collaborative project on the DiN label, although the name of Parallel Worlds should be familiar to DiN aficionados due to the two solo albums Obsessive Surrealism (DiN26) & Shade (DiN32) as well as the more recent collaboration with DiN label boss Ian Boddy on Exit Strategy (DiN37). Dave Bessell is, of course, a new artist to join the DiN roster, although his name should be familiar to lovers of analogue electronica due to his contribution to the almost legendary band Node. One of the four founder members of this group, Dave is also joined on the track Heterodyne by Ed Buller the world renowned producer and master of the art of sequencing large vintage modular synths.

Bessell has a formal education in classical composition and these skills blend perfectly on Morphogenic with the intricate, sequenced rhythms of Bakis Sirros aka Parallel Worlds. Whilst the eight tracks have all the fluidity and organic feel of analogue synth dominated pieces, they have a shape and form to them that make them fascinating compositions. As well as joining Sirros in the analogue arsenal with his mighty Macbeth M5n, Bessell also provides some very effective and unusual guitar backdrops. Bakis made extensive use of Serge, Buchla and Oberheim synths in this recording which contribute to the warm and organic soundscapes. Bessell also writes custom software that is employed to great effect in providing unusual and detailed textures through which the incessant, complex rhythms and beats of Sirros rise and fall.

further details and clips here

All tracks composed, arranged and produced by Bakis Sirros & Dave Bessell between April 2011 and April 2012, except track 6, by Bakis Sirros, Dave Bessell & John Sirros.

Cwejman VCO-2RM Oscillator Synth Module

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction

"VC0-2RM is equipped with seven waveforms, LFO mode, sync and waveform outputs are routed to a DC coupled ring modulator (RM). The oscillator's frequency is controlled by COARSE, TUNE knobs and FM inputs. TUNE finetunes the oscillators (± 6 semitones). Frequency modulation (leveled FM1, FM2 and FM3 ) determinates the intensity of frequency modulation and/or pitch control. All FM inputs are carefully calibrated for 1Volt/octave sensitivity. Frequency modulation, by an audio signal, creates so called "side-bands" that consist of sum and difference of signals frequencies. These additional frequencies do mostly have a non harmonic sound. Modulation, by low periodic waveforms, such as LFO or envelope generator creates momentary pitch shift of modulated oscillator common named vibrato (by LFO) or pitch bend (by envelope generator). SYNC means that sync'ed oscillators frequency is tracked by the frequency of controlling oscillator; OSC2's frequency is syncronized to OSC1's frequency. When the tuned frequency of sync-ed oscillator has the same or multiple of frequency of controlling oscillator then sync-ed oscillators waveform has no or very little "glitch" which results in a sync-ed smooth waveform (sinus waveform). The sync-ed waveforms (with additional FM modulation) are perfect for cutting edge lead sound and hard, funky basses. PULSE WIDTH % adjusts the pulse width of the pulse wave from 5% to 95%. WAVEFORM selects the waveform or a mix of waveforms from an oscillator. PULSE WIDTH control works also on the waveform mixes where the pulse wave is included. Ring modulator (RM) is a classic audio effect device and due to the non harmonic character of the output signal, very useful to create metallic timbres such as bells, sweeping whistles and percussive sounds and tremolo effects (modulated by low periodic signal like a LFO). Two input signals are pre-patched to OSC1 and OSC2 outputs. Using the inputs X and Y, any other external signal can be routed directly into the ring modulator. As modulation source the ring modulator can produce a huge amount of complex waveforms both in the low and audio frequency range."
