CS80 Test

"A quick test of our recently acquired and restored CS80. There's an interesting history behind this instrument in that it was reportedly given (yes, given) to Jeff Wayne by David Essex and used on Jeff's War Of The Worlds album.

At some point after the album it developed various faults (we think it was dropped from a truck) and was placed in storage for many years. By the time we acquired it, it was in a very bad state so we had synth-tech par excellence, Kent Spong, painstakingly bring it back to life.

This is a quick test featuring the new ribbon strip in Sustain Mode 1."

"We bought a Strymon El Capistan Delay pedal and as soon as we took it out of the box, we hooked it up to the ARP Pro-DGX and had a noodle. These first experiments are a little over the top but it is very lovely and makes a change from guitars always being used to demo effects pedals."

"After taking delivery of a lovely Dotcom system, we decided to record the first thing that we patched. This set-up was specifically designed to test the various sequencer functions which then forms the basis of the track.

Our Yamaha CS30 takes care of the cross mod sound and the strings come from Spectrasonics Omnishpere."

"Another synth jam but this time using the ARP sequencer to trigger 2600 and also to clock the Oberheim Mini sequencer which drives the Eight Voice and clocks the Minimoog. Finally the low output audio from the Minimoog is fed into the VP330 vocoder.

This was filmed on my phone and was part of a test for a future project"
