New KORG Collection for Mac/Win & a Notice Regarding KORG USER NET

KORG Collection for Mac/Win | SOFTWARE INSTRUMENTS Published on Dec 21, 2017 Korg

KORG has announced an update to the KORG Legacy Collection. The update is free for current Legacy Collection owners. If you are on KORG USER NET be sure to see the note on the upcoming server migration including the partial termination of service of KORG USER NET further below.

"The many great sounds that marked an era. A synthesizer collection completely reconstructed in software.

Released in 2004, the KORG Legacy Collection was a pioneer of software synthesizers. Featuring a sound produced by authentic simulation of the analog and digital circuits of the legendary KORG synthesizers, the Legacy Collection has remained a best seller to this day.

Now, we are proud to announce the release of the updated KORG Collection featuring the addition of the ARP ODYSSEY. You can pursue in software the extreme feeling and sounds of this unique analog hardware synth, the ARP ODYSSEY re-issued by KORG. The updated Collection is equipped with new features especially suited to software, such as polyphonic compatibility and a rich, high-quality effects section.

Some features widely requested by users will be added to the KORG Collection in future updates. We plan to support AAX format and refine the user interface on a large-scale among other improvements but until then we hope you love all the new features so far and enjoy making music with the KORG Collection of synthesizers offered by KORG.

Faithfully Reconstructed Authentic Sound

With Korg’s original Component Modeling Technology (CMT), the KORG Legacy Collection doesn’t just simulate the output sound as is the case with typical modeling. Rather it digitizes the components used in the original hardware synthesizers and uses this reconstruction of the hardware circuits to emulate all the nuances of the original instruments. The new software addition to this release, the ARP ODYSSEY, was based on the ARP Odyssey introduced by Korg in 2015 with the advisory assistance of ARP Instruments’ co-founder in the 1970s and Odyssey designer, David Friend. Now you too can experience the authentic sound of the ARP ODYSSEY, part of the updated KORG Collection.

New Features Unique to Software

KORG Collection has undergone a variety of improvements necessary for today’s music production. For example, we have made the MS-20 polyphonic, equipped Polysix with external modulation settings and equipped Mono/Poly with virtual patch functionality, which allows for multi-colored sound production. In addition, we have equipped ARP ODYSSEY with features such as filters from each of the three original Odysseys produced between 1972 and 1981, and added important features such drive circuitry to boost the VCA, voice mode which allows for chord playing, a programmable arpeggiator, and high-quality effects. This is a new and exciting high-performance synthesizer!

Get the sound you aspire to with plug-ins

KORG Collection is not just standalone software. As a plug-in* compatible with AU, VST, each title can be used in the various production environments found in Mac / Windows. Add flair to your music composition with a variety of timeless, legendary sounds.

* Only supports 64bit plug-ins.

For Current Users of KORG Legacy Collection: Announcement of
Server Migration Accompanying Partial Termination of Service

We will soon be migrating our server to KORG ID and KORG Shop along with the partial termination of service of KORG USER NET. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to KORG Legacy Collection users. We request that you follow the instructions on the page below to complete the migration procedures. Using the coupon code which will be issued, you will be able to switch from the KORG Legacy Collection series to KORG Collection free of charge."

ARP ODYSSEY Module | Reborn again for your desktop

Published on Aug 31, 2016 ARP

Update: video above added.

Korg initially leaked the desktop modules back on Sunday. We now have the details and the price - $599.99. Not bad for an all analog, ARP Odyssey, faithful to the original with CV, MIDI, and USB no less.

"Korg Announces ARP Odyssey in Desktop Module Format

Legendary analog ARP Odyssey reborn as a convenient synthesizer module

Melville, NY - - September 1, 2016 - - Korg brings back the unmistakable sound of the legendary ARP Odyssey in a desktop module format with ARP Odyssey Modules; offering users all the editing and sound-shaping parameters from the keyboard versions! To fit perfectly in today's DAW and desktop hardware-centric music production environments, this compact module form has CV/GATE included to interface with analog desktop racks and synths, USB and 5-pin MIDI for interfacing with controllers and DAWs. The lineup includes two models, the white Rev1 and the black and orange Rev3, reproducing traditional styling.

'The ARP Odyssey Module makes it even easier for users to obtain and integrate the distinctive analog sound that only a genuine ARP Odyssey can produce,' stated James Sajeva, Technology Director for Korg USA, Inc. 'By adding the ARP Odyssey Module to their setup, users can enhance their production and performance environments with fun and powerful, hands-on editing and the true-analog Odyssey sound that cannot be replicated from any plugin,' added Sajeva.

Since its appearance in 1972, the ARP Odyssey has been loved by countless musicians as a classic analog synthesizer. Forty years later, in 2015, with the advisory assistance of David Friend, co-founder of the ARP Instruments company, Korg resurrected the ARP Odyssey with a complete reproduction of the ARP Odyssey’s original circuitry. The ARP sound, which continues to be envied as an iconic analog synthesizer, was once again back in the hands of today's musicians. Now, Korg has further broadened the reach of the ARP Odyssey in today's world by releasing these new models.

KORG Introduces the ARP ODYSSEY FSQ - Full Size Odyssey Bundled with Orange & Black SQ-1

Note these are the full size KORG ARP Odysseys announced last year. There are only a limited number left and they will be bundled with a custom black & orange themed SQ-1 - no custom white or black & gold SQ-1s. Details follow.

"A limited-edition bundle that includes a full-size ARP ODYSSEY and a KORG SQ-1.

The ARP ODYSSEY FS went on sale in 2017 as a reissue of the original ARP Odyssey. Reproduction model assembled in Japan from an extremely limited number of stock components.

Available in all three generation color variants: Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3.

Packaged together with a limited-edition ARP color version of the KORG SQ-1 step sequencer.

*With the exception of the location of assembly, the specifications of the ARP ODYSSEY FS are identical to those of the previously released ARP ODYSSEY FS (ASSEMBLED IN NEW YORK).

*With the exception of the design and the inclusion of the patch cables, the specifications of the KORG SQ-1 ARP color version are identical to those of the usual KORG SQ-1.

*Regardless of whether the ARP ODYSSEY FS is a Rev1, Rev2, or Rev3 model, all KORG SQ-1 ARP color version units have the same design with a black panel and orange silk-screening."

KORG Officially Introduces the New ARP ODYSSEY and New KRONOS - Details and Live Video From NAMM

Scheduled for Jan 21, 2015 Korg

And the details are in. You'll find the list of full Odyssey specs further below. I wanted to lump the Kronos and Odyssey together with Korg's live video announcement feed from NAMM, as that is how they are/were released to the world. It's interesting that the press release for the Odyssey does not mention or include pics of the white and black & gold Odysseys. You can see pics of them side by side at NAMM here, and the black and gold prototype was pictured here. New pics will follow when they go live.  Until then, enjoy the show! Update: new front view of Odyssey and two new Kronos pics added below.  That's it for the initial press pics.  You can see the white and black & gold Odysseys on stage.

"ARP ODYSSEY; Forty Years Later, A Complete Revival

Long stopped, the wheels of history have again begun to move

Anaheim, CA– January 21, 2015- - In conjunction with Arp Instruments Inc., Korg Inc. has revived the legendary analog synthesizer, the ARP ODYSSEY. Originally produced in 1972, the ODYSSEY quickly garnered a faithful following among musicians. Well respected for its high value, ease to play and portability, the ARP ODYSSEY had undergone several improvements during its history and continued to be a long-seller until manufacturing stopped in 1981 due to economic hardships and the digital surge. Loved by a wide range of musicians as a historical classic, its sound can be heard on numerous classic songs.

Now in 2015, Korg has brought back the ARP ODYSSEY for today while preserving the basic design of the original. The new ODYSSEY has a compact body, highly operable sliders, and a 37 note slim keyboard that's easy to play. In addition, a DRIVE switch (new function) is provided and connectors include MIDI and headphone output as well as Patch cables.

'Together the engineers at Korg and Arp were able to nail the sound and feel of the original. Under the advisory assistance of David Friend, the co-founder of ARP Instruments, every detail was adjusted to replicate the original unit's distinctive synthesis,' shared James Sajeva, Brand Manager for Korg products. 'Every aspect has been carefully considered to stay true to the quality of the original, down to the sophisticated semi-hard case.'

Korg has completely reproduced the original circuitry for artists looking to recreate classic sounds and explore new ones. The ARP ODYSSEY has been downsized to 86% of the original. Carefully selected parts are used in the familiar slider section, providing an operating feel that's even smoother than the original."

"KORG Debuts Most Powerful Synthesizer with the New Kronos

Expanded Piano Engine, Improved Touch Panel Navigation, Improved Set List Mode, Search by Song Title Functionality, Redesigned Exterior

Anaheim, CA– January 22, 2015- - KORG USA debuted the new KRONOS, the most powerful version of its flagship synthesizer to date during Winter NAMM. For the first time enthusiast will be able to hear and see the new Kronos in action with live performances and in depth demonstrations by product experts and engineers.

'The new Kronos features the unrivaled 9-engine structure from previous versions, with numerous improvements to both sound capability and overall functionality. Truly, the most powerful synthesizer on the planet just got more powerful,' said James Sajeva, Brand Manager for Korg products.

'Our SGX piano engine, already revered for its German and Japanese grands, now also includes a 9GB Berlin grand with dedicated una corda (soft pedal) samples, plus sympathetic string resonance that works on all the SGX pianos” he continued. “It’s truly an amazing piano experience. There are new banks of sounds based on famous song titles for our cover players and those looking for ‘that’ sound for their recordings, plus a ‘best of’ bank from KaPro, who has created numerous libraries for the Kronos line.'

Other new features include system-wide Touch/Drag via the Kronos’ huge color TouchView™ screen; allowing the user to edit onscreen parameters faster and more naturally than ever.

An evolved Set List mode provides the capability to resize their custom text per set list entry, and enter text via either an onscreen QWERTY or external USB ASCII keyboard. Entries can also be color-coded for better organization and visibility, and users can even decide how many set list entries appear on the screen at time, allowing for more (and larger) onscreen text to remind you of lyrics, changes, or other notes.

An improved search function helps users to find the perfect sound faster than ever. Other improvements include onscreen metering in Combination and Sequencer modes, along with the ability to edit Programs within a Combination to hear the edits in context with other parts.

The improvements don’t end with the software, either; the new Kronos also boasts a new look, including natural wood side panels, easier-to-read silkscreened text, a sophisticated – and functional – vented back panel, and gold-plated audio I/O jacks."

KORG to Release New ARP Odyssey

via KORG

"Tokyo, Japan - February 17, 2014 - KORG INC. is proud to announce that a faithful recreation of the legendary 1970s analog synthesiser, the ARP Odyssey, is being developed by Korg for release later in 2014.

The ARP Odyssey was released in 1972 by ARP Instruments, Inc. and quickly became famous for its unique rich sound and innovative performance controls. It was a staple for many recording and performing musicians worldwide and was used on countless hit records over many years. The Odyssey was one of the highlights of the ARP company and became a long selling product. With slight updates and improvements it was sold through to 1981.

Korg is also proud to welcome Mr David Friend as our chief advisor on the Odyssey. David Friend established ARP Instruments, Inc. along with Alan Robert Pearlman and is a past president of ARP Instruments, Inc. He was also the lead designer of the original Odyssey in addition to designing or co-designing many other products.

After ARP, Mr Friend became a successful technology entrepreneur. In 2010, he was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in the Emerging Technology category for the New England Region, he has been a lecturer at MIT's Sloan School of Management and is now Chairman & CEO of Carbonite, Inc. He has been a trustee of the New England Conservatory and Berklee College of Music.

In the last few years, KORG INC. has released several top selling analog synthesizers such as the monotrons series, the monotribe, the volca series and the hugely successful MS-20 mini, a faithful fully analog recreation of the 1978 MS-20. With Korg's technology capabilities and planning ability for analog synthesizers, and in collaboration with David Friend, we believe the legendary ARP Odyssey will become a "must have" for an all new generation of music makers.

The ARP Odyssey is scheduled for release in September 2014."

KORG ARP ODYSSEY (2015) vs. ARP ODYSSEY MK.III (1978) comparision test

Published on Feb 19, 2015 RetroSound

"(c) 2015 synthesizer demo by RetroSound

comparision demo KORG ARP ODYSSEY (2015) vs. ARP ODYSSEY Mk.III (1978)

Here is the A / B comparison test. It is very important to say that compared to my old ARP Odyssey Mk.III from 1978. The synth is 100% technically ok, calibrated and in practically in mint condition.

On the new KORG ARP Odyssey are three different filter types (Rev.1 to Rev.3) available and only filter type III is used here in the test. The owner manual for this filter is to comply with the 24 dB/oct low-pass filter (filter 4075) of the Odyssey Mk.III. Furthermore, the Drive function of the new ARP Odyssey is deactivated because it is not this the original. In order to maintain absolute equality, the audio samples were recorded directly via the same audio input without any external effects, compressors or equalizers and then recorded on HD.

In the audio examples, it was not aware of keyboard acrobatics, the focus was more on the key features of sound production as basic sound of the oscillators including pulse width modulation, the filter, ringmodulator, the VCO sync function and especially the speed of the envelopes to make a meaningful comparison to get.
If the old ARP some sounds louder sounds than the KORG, then is that the result of all the parameters.
For example, the sound filter in position III thinned at a high response from KORG out much more and loses its foundation as the old Odyssey MK.III. On both synths is the VCA fader on top position. The sound of the new KORG ARP is more clean, especially in the bass spectrum. The old ARP is a bit noisy and sounds a bit more organic.

some sounds are sequenced over cv/gate with the Doepfer Dark Time step sequencer."

KORG Officially Announces Full Size ARP ODYSSEYs

ARP ODYSSEY FS | The Legend Returns with Full Size

Published on Jan 11, 2017 ARP

Previously seen here, the full sized KORG ARP Odyssey is officially announced.

"The full-size ARP Odyssey is back in more ways than one! This limited edition series is a true 1:1 recreation of the legend, proudly assembled in the USA, where the ARP story began.

Like the ARP ODYSSEY series that relaunched the brand, and the modules that followed, the FS full-size series offers the same three-filter configuration, plus modern amenities such as an analog drive circuit and MIDI with USB I/o or 5-pin input. The classic rubber pitch and mod pads also return, bigger than ever. All three color versions will be available in 2017!"

"Assembled in America, and available to the world once again.

The long-awaited full-size ARP ODYSSEY is now available in a limited edition.
The revival of the ARP Odyssey originated from a desire to reconstruct a legendary synthesizer of the 1970s, faithfully reproducing its original analog form while combining respect for history with an update for today's music production environment; it first took shape as the ARP ODYSSEY, completely analog but in a more compact 86%-sized unit.

KORG's next move is an even more faithful recreation of the original ARP Odyssey: it's the full-sized ARP ODYSSEY FS. With a standard keyboard and a body that emanates a sense of solidity, it delivers great playability and a persuasive stage presence. Just like its original version, the instrument is assembled in the United States, faithfully carrying on the quality, sound, and spirit of the original. Choose from three designs: Rev1, Rev2, or Rev3. Only a small number of each is being produced. Don't miss your chance to obtain a full-sized ARP ODYSSEY – an instrument with decades of soul.

A full-sized ARP ODYSSEY with a standard keyboard

As an alternative to the 86% size ARP ODYSSEY with its compact slim keyboard, we've created the ARP ODYSSEY FS, a long-awaited full-size model with a standard keyboard. Featuring a spacious panel layout with faders that are smooth to operate, and a standard-sized keyboard for excellent playability, it's just what the synthesizer lover or keyboardist has been waiting for. Most of all, its weight and essence are the precise image of the original ARP Odyssey. With analog sound that has already established a firm reputation, it is fair to say that this is a true resurrection of the ARP ODYSSEY. Now you can obtain a full-sized ARP ODYSSEY that's perfect in every area including sound, stability, appearance, and size, but with the reliability of a brand new synth."

"Check out great deals on the ARP Odyssey at Nova Musik: http://www.novamusik.com/korg-arp-ody...

Rich Formidoni from Korg USA stopped by to talk about and play Korg's revival of the iconic ARP Odyssey analog synthesizer.

The ARP Odyssey was an analog synthesizer originally produced in 1972 by the American manufacturer ARP Instruments, Inc. that quickly garnered a faithful following among musicians.

Now in 2015, Korg has brought back the ARP Odyssey for today. With the advisory assistance of David Friend, the co-founder of ARP Instruments, Korg has completely reproduced the original circuitry for artists looking to recreate classic sounds and explore new ones. Together the engineers at Korg and ARP were able to nail the sound and feel of the original. Every detail has been carefully considered to stay true to the quality of the original, down to the sophisticated semi-hard case."

KORG ARP ODYSSEY FS KIT Incoming

"Become a part of the legacy with the ARP ODYSSEY FS Kit.

In 2015, ARP’s history was thrust into the spotlight with the revival of the ARP Odyssey. Synth fans around the world were ecstatic–authentic reissues of some of the most iconic and legendary ARP synthesizers would finally be revealed. From the ARP ODYSSEY FS with its full-size keyboard, to the long awaited ARP 2600 FS and ARP 2600 M, ARP synths once again stood at the forefront of the modern music scene.

Now, with the release of the ARP ODYSSEY FS Kit, musicians are empowered to take the ARP legacy into their own hands.

Staying true to the ARP Odyssey FS, the kit uses the exact analog circuitry, preserving the original warm and rich sounds we’ve all grown to love. The kit also features all the original specs of the Rev. 3 model with a full-size keyboard and a black panel design with orange lettering. And to facilitate assembly of the Odyssey, a pictorial guide is included; no technical knowledge or soldering is needed.

The ARP Odyssey FS Kit is a one-of-a-kind collectors’ instrument. To commemorate the unique experience of building it yourself, it is distinguished from any other ARP Odyssey with its own serial number engraved into an elegant metal plate.

With this kit, not only will you be able to get the coveted ARP sound that legendary musicians have been using for the last 50 years, you will also be able to create it with your own hands. We hope that you will make this special ARP ODYSSEY a one-of-a-kind instrument just for you."

"Free bundle of music software

The ARP ODYSSEY FS Kit comes with a diverse variety of music software from Izotope including “Ozone Elements” which lets you not only create songs but also master them using AI, “Skoove” which will help you improve your keyboard playing skills, “Reason Lite” DAW software, as well as software synths from KORG and other brands.

In other words, the moment you get your hands on this synthesizer you'll have a variety of tools to help you take your music to the next level."

Behringer Odyssey as a performance synth - 5 patches in one track

Published on Nov 9, 2019 Arrayzable

"In this video I will use 5 different patches while playing live.

1. Plucked sound with echo effect.
2. Lead sound.
3. Soft and round flute like sound.
4. Hard but thin sound, kinda like a harpsichord.
5. Ultra powerful lead sound.

The 'backing track' is sequenced via the Korg Electribe EMX-1, and I'm both playing the EMX-1 and changing patterns on it, so it sometimes steals my concentration from the Odyssey - sorry about that :)
The string sound in the beginning comes from the Korg X5Dr and is a Jay B patch.
The guitar like sounds up next are from the Novation KS4.
The heavy long noted bass sounds comes from the DSI Mopho.
The short noted bass line comes from the Volca Bass.
The Vocoder sound comes from the Korg ih (Interactive Vocal Harmony) and is controlled live from the Korg R3.
The rest is all Behringer Odyssey. The Bodyssey uses it's inbuilt reverb effect.

This is an original track called "All Over Again". Lyrics and music made by Arrayzable.

As always live play with synths and sequencers.

Used in this track:

Behringer Odyssey
Novation KS4 (K-Station)
Korg Electribe EMX-1
Korg ih Interactive Harmony
DSI Mopho
Volca Bass
Korg X5DR
Korg R3
Arrayzable"
