"The world around us is an endless source of visual information, the flow of the fractal code of life. 'Nature - Oscillator' is one of the attempts to translate this code to sound, using spectral synthesis algorithm of the Virtual ANS engine (software simulator of the unique Russian synthesizer ANS). The program continuously reads the image from the camera and interprets it as the spectrum of the sound. And you can easily control the scanning curve: its amplitude, type and speed.

[ How to use ]

Start the app and you will hear the sound immediately. Try to move the camera and you will hear the sound change.
If there is no sound for some reason - try to reduce the Quality parameter in the app menu.

How to change the scanning curve:
* amplitude: touch the screen and slide up or down;
* speed: touch the screen and slide left or right;
* type: use the slider at the top of the screen.

Any sound can be recorded by pressing the REC button on the right side of the screen."

The focus of this demo is the SH-101 plug-out: down-n-dirty short basses, basic arpeggios, and sequences from Arturia Beatstep. I don't have an original SH-101 so I can't comment on how similar it may be. I stayed away from tone/crusher and kept the delay/reverb to a minimum just so you could hear the SH-101 sound engine in all its monophonic glory. Some backing rhythms provided by SCI Drumtraks and Roland MC-303."

Merlin - New Semi-Modular Rack Synth From Exclusively Analogue

"We’re pleased to confirm that ‘The Merlin’ is now real and in direct response to feedback and suggestions from Exclusively Analogue customers. In keeping with the aviation link the ‘Merlin’ is named after the iconic Rolls Royce engine that powered a number of aircraft including the Spitfire, Hurricane, Mosquito, and Lancaster.

The aim of Merlin is to provide a powerful analogue synthesizer with maximum flexibility and at a competitive price (approximately £800 depending on format). Part of the flexibility comes from making it small enough to fit into the Eurorack format but without compromising usability. To this end all of the jack sockets are on the bottom to avoid patch leads crossing the controls which is a common drawback of a lot of Eurorack modules. Merlin is available either as a self powered 19″ rack mount module, a self powered desktop module, or in Eurorack format able to utilise an existing power supply.

‘Out of the box’ it just requires a CV and Gate input to work and is pre-patched to form the classic Analogue Synth routing. The 54 mini jack sockets enable the user to create numerous alternative routings – input signals and control voltages or output signal and control voltages. The format is ‘classic’ with 2 Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCOs) providing Sawtooth, Square, Sine and Triangle waveforms. There is also a separate Noise Source and an External input. There are 2 LFOs – one Voltage Controlled and the other normally dedicated to Pulse Width Modulation. For interesting modulation there is a Sample & Hold and that’s normally clocked by the VCLFO and sampling the Noise Source. A Ring Modulator is also provided to allow creation of complex waveforms.

The heart of any Analogue synthesizer is the Filter and ‘Merlin’ has a powerful Multi Mode Filter. The Voltage Controlled Filter (VCF) is based around the SSM2040 design and has 24dB Lowpass, 12dB Lowpass, High Pass, and Band Pass outputs thereby giving a broad spectrum of sound modification. The standard filter frequency modulation options are available (Keyboard CV, FM, and selectable positive or negative Envelope) plus the Resonance (Q) can also be modulated which most filters do not have. There are also 2 Envelope Generators – one for the VCF and one for the Voltage Controlled Amplifier.

The picture shows the first Merlin in a rack unit and as a comparison a collection of Eurorack modules have been included on the bottom to give you an idea of how ‘Merlin’ might be added to an existing system or as a starting point for a system that can be expanded by adding modules.

We are currently at the testing phase of the prototypes and should have some sound and video files available soon. At this stage we are taking expressions of interest with the opportunity to be one of the early owners once production starts."

All sounds including the beat are from the Moog Sub 37 only (with a touch of delay from the Strymon El Capistan on two of the synth parts.) I tried to show a wide variety of sounds, from classic soft leads to crunchy distorted bass, as well as some filter and modulation tweaks.

"This is an early Yamaha mixer with a built-in beatbox. I couldn't find any other audio demos of this thing online, so I figured I'd make one. It only has a few different preset beats, but as with most drum machines of this era, you can press multiple buttons at once and combine the beats to get more interesting patterns. The mixer also has a spring reverb, which the beatbox isn't hard-wired to, but you can get around that by patching one of the outputs to a channel input and turning up the reverb. I demonstrate this in the second part of the video. At the end I add in a little bit of the tuning knob."

Featured as a new modules in this video is the Tip Top Audio SD808 snare drum. A 4hp size enhancement to my Delptronic modules. Still makes for a very compact (only 14hp space) for a complete drum kit. Compare the snare drum sound in this video to the last video before this (Percussion work 4). Also, the Ladik L-110 LFO 1 is the driving clock source in this, a very fun module that does a lot in a very small space.

Straight forward 4/4 fat back drum beat pattern throughout. 16th notes hihat, and percussion solo. Morphing Bass vamp accompanies. which occasionally morphs in to alien like voices. Something fun for everyone! Thanks for watching! :)"

"DOMINION X is the new synth from MFB. It combines the advantages of analog sound generation, storability and modular patch options. With improved circuitry, advanced features and new design DOMINION X is the first in a new class MFB.

Performance
The three oscillators in DOMINION X provide maximum functionality. Each waveform can be modulated in the symmetry. That is, it can not only the pulse width of the rectangle, but also sawtooth to triangle and triangle can be continuously changed to sinus. All three oscillators have downstream ring modulators, it can be synchronized VCO 2 and 3 to VCO 1. Further allows VCO 1 and 2 from VCO3 modulate in frequency. A microprocessor-controlled temperature regulation ensures tuning stability of the analog VCO circuit. Finally, it can complement the Mixer to white noise or an external sound source to the VCO.

The filter has six different modes. There are three low-pass filters with 12 .. 24 dB / oct. Slope. Add to this a high and bandpass and a bandstop filter with 12 dB and 6 dB / oct. Slope. The filter can be modulated by means of invertible envelope keytracking, LFO, VCO, various MIDI controllers and the CV input with external control voltage.

The two ADSR envelopes are assigned to the VCF and VCA. Envelope 1 can also modulate the VCO. The LFO 1 and 2 have six waveforms, including sample and hold. You can also enable a one-shot mode, by which they are to Minihüllkurven. A third LFO that has the sine waveform can, in conjunction with the modulation of a keyboard for the dynamic control of VCO, VCF and VCA are used.

The allocation of the modulators via selectors, which can be found in addition to the respective destinations. In this way the internal modulations change extremely quickly - ideal for live performance.

For the integration of external modulation, control and audio sources, there are nine inputs. Oscillators, filter, VCA, CV / Gate and the mixer DOMINION X can be so ideal with other analog synthesizers such as the MFB MEGAZWERG, connect Analogsequenzern such as the MFB URZWERG PRO or modular systems.

An extra selector allows for the assignment of velocities up to 11 different modulation destinations.

DOMINION X has 128 presets for your own sound creations. To assist you in sound programming without keyboard connected there are various demo sequences. For the use of filters as DOMINION X via the audio input allows the VCA open permanently. Insert jack on the rear, a distortion pedal or effects unit can be looped into the signal path.

DOMINION X has the dimensions 330 x 170 x 60 mm. Power is supplied via the included AC adapter"

"Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev. 2- Increasingly Rare Vintage Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer.
This unit was serviced by Greg Montalbano, known as the premier Prophet 5 tech, when I got her just about 2 years ago. It had all bypass caps replaced, battery replaced, fully cleaned, calibrated, tuned and scaled. It has all the original factory patches loaded. Greg also added the cassette interface mod so you can back up and restore patches (you can use your DAW don't need an actual cassette). I just re-cleaned the bus board and key contacts as well so keys are all triggering great. It is fully functional and sounds fantastic. Cosmetic wise it is in pretty great condition, there are some minor scuffs around the metal chasis, there's some minor knicks in the wood in various spots, there are a couple of areas where the silk screen is faded. Synth has been only sitting in my studio since serviced with just occasional use and has not been taken out."

I produced two youtube videos explaining the update procedure (PC and MAC versions). The update includes a new bootloader version as well. Like described in the videos - you need to install the bootloader first and the firmware afterwards.

ACCELERATOR Update procedure MAC OSX

1.) Starting the Accelerator in Bootloader mode
2.) Updating the boot loader
3.) Updating the firmware.

Not all updates involve a boot loader update. Just skip step 2 if no boot loader update is necessary. But please always do a boot loader update if your ACCs version is below the latest published version. The firmware has been tested with the latest boot loader version!"

"A more epic sound than I would normally use, but it's early days with these 2 boxes! A nice Berlin School bass sequence, as befits the German origin of both.

Pulse width and cutoff are modulated by the Kraftzwerg's LFOs. The Lancet is patched after the Kraftzwerg's VCF as a second filter, then back in to the VCA. The Lancet is in hi-pass mode with some resonance and an LFO sweep.

MIDI sequence in Logic. Backing track is some bespoke sounds in Omnisphere. Boss GT10 provides the pan, chorus, delay, reverb."
