Mutable Instruments Peaks & Warps: A Non-Musical Experimental Test

Published on Mar 29, 2016 Genshi Media Group

"WARNING! This is a completely non-musical experimental test that I recorded just for my own self. On the off chance that there are a small handful of people that might be interested in this, I made it Public as well. If it's NOT what you are looking for, and/or you don't like it, then JUST MOVE ON! No need to down vote it! Details are as follows:

I received the Mutable Instruments Peaks and Warps today and just wanted to test out what they actually do and how they interact with my other modules (particularly Braids and Clouds as well as Radio Music by Music Thing Modular.) I had Ableton Live running and my iPhone video recording so I can capture the various tests. Most of it is crap! But the point of it, for me, was to see (and hear) how they all work together. I tried out the various modes (sorry, don't even remember which ones) as well as the alternative "Parasites" firmware in Warps towards the end. There were, of course, some exceptional moments as well... only after I stopped recording, unfortunately. :-(

As with my previous videos, my next one will be back to the more musical style that my viewers are use to..."

Korg Arp Odyssey 2016 Noise, Reverb & Delay! Analog Synthesizer Rik Marston

Published on Mar 29, 2016 SynthgodXXX

"Korg ARP Odyssey 2016 Noise, Reverb & Delay!
Analog Synthesizer Demo by Rik Marston
***Watch in HD!***

I just got home from my vacation in Colorado
& I had to play the Arp Odyssey! It is a true
sound design tool and a blast to play!!!
The demo volume starts low then builds up higher, so look out!!!
I ran it thru my autographed Art MultiVerb LT from music legend Steve Schiff
(Composer, Bass, Guitar for The Nina Hagen Band, Simple Minds, Billy Idol, Pointer Sisters, Foreigner, Charlie Sexton & MORE!) then ran that thru Simple Delay Groove FX on LIVE 7.
The ART MultiVerb LT's MIX slider is a bit buzzy so
I am sorry for the distortion clipping & a bit of noise.
But I was coming down from the Colorado TRIP so...
I'd say watch you speakers/headphones for noise.
It gets a bit buzzy at times but I try to correct it QUICK.
LOL. Had fun tweaking anyway!"

"In my first Microkorg tutorial I'll show you how to use this device as a effects unit. The Microkorg is a very deep machine with TONS of options. Because of the Minilogue many people are selling these amazing synths at CRAZY prices. This is my first on MANY Microkorg tutorials. In this video the Microkorg processes the Korg Volca Bass, Korg Volca Keys and Arturia Microbrute. The effects used on the Microkorg are Delay and Ensemble."

New Stomper Eurorack Module From Syinsi

Published on Mar 29, 2016 THX2112

via Syinsi

"The biggest problem with the Stomper was the time it took to put together. They were gone as soon as they were built -- which made it hard to keep in stock.

Now the PCB has been redesigned for faster/easier assembly, but the circuit (and sound) is the same.

Panel and PCB will also be available once the backorders are finished.

Soundtrack: Two Stompers and a Euro-G1 sequenced by a PrOne."

soundmachines to Introduce MODULÖR114 - Single Unit Eurorack System

via soundmachines

"MODULÖR114 is here. Have a look at the labeling, for now, as we are packing the car for Berlin #superbooth16.

Tomorrow more specs and a page on our website...

See ya in Berlin!

(Oh, yes... there will be a ribbon controller in that blank space."

This will be available as a stand alone desktop unit with patch cables and universal DC power supply.

Update: details are in:

"An all in one sound factory, our MODULÖR114 eurorack analog modular synthesizer will be presented for the first time at this year's Superbooth16 in Berlin.
A great entry ticket to the modular world for someone, a trove of sounds for others, the MODULÖR114 encloses the most sought-after analog textures and the modern additions that renders this product unique.
Some key points:

-Analog Heart-
The MODULÖR114 shows its lineage with its raw, organic and sometimes uneducated analog sonic character. The heart of the modular synthesizer is a full set of analog blocks that allows the musician to be inspired and experiment with a real, no compromise machine. More than twenty freely patchable analog modules lets you deep dive into the world of synthesis with the added bonus of the many other characteristics of the MODULÖR114.

-Workflow Integration-
A modern all-in-one modular machine like the MODULÖR114, just gives no compromises on the side of connectivity. Today we implemented many advanced features that will benefit any kind of user from their presence. The integral USB MIDI to CV interface sports many features that are yet to be found on the majority of eurorack modules. Apart from the classic pitch and gate signals we can derive a 16th clock, the modwheel amount to CV and, finally, Parameter Change control over two CV, an attenuator and a slew controller. The possibilities are wide.
A great addition is the USB HOST capability of the MODULÖR114: By selecting the HOST interface you can plug in a usb midi keyboard or control surface and have your complete synth working without a support pc!
Last but not least, MODULÖR114 is made to be a slim, portable unit and it can be powered also by the USB device port!

-Maximum Playability-
The MODULÖR114 includes a couple of hard-to-find functions in many competitor's machines: a ribbon controller and an internal quantizer. Those two functions, together or not, make for a great deal of playability in a modular synth environment and sets a new standard in self-contained machines.

-Digital Spark-
Orthodox things give us the hitch. We are all for contamination, infection and cross breeding, so we put a good deal of digital stuff into our analog machine: A complete fx unit based on a 24bit DSP is available to either enrich the sound or properly shape it with delays, chorus and reverbs, all controllable with CVs and taptempo inputs. On the rightmost part of the synth you can find a plethora of simple yet effective digital blocks, like logic gates, clock dividers and trigger buttons. From rhythmic duties to digital ringmods....

-the SYNTH! button-
We designed the MODULÖR114 as a perfect entry door to the eurorack modular world by putting together a great assortment of modules with the added functionalities of digital fx and advanced connectivity.

As the cherry on the cake we implemented a hidden monosynth that you can recall at the touch of a button! This innovative capability matches perfectly with one of the potential uses of the MODULÖR114 synth, the lead and bass monosynth. All the red labeled jacks will be connected together in the classic monophonic synthesizer signal flow. Without using patchcords you can start playing just by plugging a usb keyboard in!"

WMD Aperture variable width bandpass filter - Program Material

Published on Mar 29, 2016 William Mathewson

"This is a quick demo of how the Aperture filter handles program material, AKA an entire mix ran through it. For this patch the Aperture is at the end of the signal chain, filtering the drums, bass, and auxiliary lines all together. Resonance and feedback are mostly turned all the way down to demonstrate how the Aperture can cleanly filter an entire mix. Input level is also below 12 o' clock meaning the Aperture itself isn't adding any gain, adding to the clarity of the signal."

Madrona Labs Introduces Virta Sound Controlled Synthesis and Effects

We have a new synth app from Madrona Labs, the maker of the Buchla inspired Aalto. This one uses audio to synthesize new sounds. The synthesis and effect can be subtle or extreme as you can hear in the demos above.

Via the Madrona Labs website:

"Virta is a patchable toolbox for turning your voice or other instrument into wild new synth sounds."

And from the manual:

"Synthesizers and effects. In this crazy mixed-up world, what could be better? On and on, we tweak and twist, searching for something. Smiles creeping across our faces all the while. The roiling sea of knobs and buttons and lights are magnetic. We seek, pure of heart, to merge with the world of sound.

Alas, we sometimes find ourselves stopped short.

It can be a tall order to get the level of expression and immediacy that you crave with traditional synthesizers and processors. is goes double if you’ve got to work quickly, but want to maintain a satisfying amount of complexity and variance in your sound. Perhaps, in the heat of a creative moment, you have wished to simply dive into a synth or effect and command it by thought. There is no shame in that.

This, to a large degree, is why we’ve created Virta - a modular synthesizer and effects processor that responds directly to you.

When you route your voice (or any kind of audio) into Virta, the sound analysis engine precisely extracts information about its pitch, timbre, and dynamics over time. These new signals can control nearly any parameter in Virta, just the same as you can with MIDI or OSC.

Tis makes for an instrument that can easily follow your every twist and turn. Living the dream, really. Then again, Virta is modular, so audio-controlled synthesis is just one road you can travel. You can also make stuff like:

• Expressive vocal processing chains
• 4-voice MIDI-controlled pitch shi ers
• MIDI/OSC-controlled synths (with or without audio control)
• Drones for days
• First-ever faithful emulation of the mating call of the Space Pony

A Quick Overview
Virta’s interface has four main sections, from top to bottom:
• The header section, where you’ll nd the patch menu, along with the version and registration status of your copy of Virta.
• The signals and shapes section, where AUDIO and MIDI/OSC (KEY) signals ow into Virta, and where the oscillators (OSC1 and OSC2) and modulators (LFO, and ENVELOPE) reside.
• The patcher section, where connections between modules are made and unmade.
• The processing and output section, where the sounds you make are massaged and processed to perfection by the FORMANT, GATE, DE- LAY, and OUTPUT modules"

New Rossum Electro-Music ASSIMUL8OR Eurorack Module

Spotted on sequencer.de:

"Dave Rossum, former E-mu, has just posted the new Sampler that is capable of Phase Modulation which is in fact a sort of FM that works when the Frequency is beyon 40Hz (Audio Speed) and won’t collide with Yamaha’s patent on Frequency Modulation (FM). It has a plethora of CV inputs and 8 outputs, control of position and sample start/end."

Note the storage card slot and Load button. You should be able to save and load samples. There are L/R sample inputs on the bottom left which implies stereo sampling.
